Maybe one day his heart will open up and he will reconsider selling them to me.

Better chance of this:

Frank,

Stop torturing me with these pictures!Big Smile [:D]  If I had the money, I'd buy them in a heartbeat!  My entire layout is good old Irvington tubular, so they would feel right at home.

Our friendly banter has proven to be a welcomed part of my days. I admit that I was a total fool for not taking those 2343s when I had the chance. I kick myself every day over it. True story.

It wasn't the price that was the issue. You know that. It was my two boys. I was fearful of them destroying the "paper" or even worse, the trains. Precocious is an understatement in regards to them. The thought of them destroying something that special was what made me back out. But soon after declining the offer, I thought to put a locking door on the trainroom so they would not have unsupervised accress to the trains. By then you had decided to keep the trains for yourself. And I am now left to search elsewhere for what to me, is my Lionel holy grail.

If you ever change your mind, I'd still like to buy them! Until then please don't eat me!

Frank, I think he wants us to believe that he passed up a fantastic deal for $285.00 when he could have put a lock on the door for $2.85?  This sounds like another Wit from Forest Gump.  Not sure someone of such character should be allowed to have such a fine set of engines!  Let me know if you have any of your fine pieces that you would like to part with, I will give them a good home, and I can afford the money for a lock on the doorSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Dennis

PS: Jim, just kidding back at ya!

Jim - here's a timely tip.

When you go to the Zoo and you see a 45 ft Python in a glass case, there is usually a sign that says "Do Not Tap On The Glass"

There is a reason for this.

One day, some jamoke is going to keep tapping on the glass to get the big suckers attention. The snake gets riled up, coils back and bursts through the glass and that's kinda, sorta teh end of that.

With that said - stop tapping on the freaking glass! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Can you believe Jim turned down these babies?

With original boxes, liners, instruction sheets and paper?

I guess he thought $285.00 was too much to pay. Yes, you read that right - $285.00. Although I suspect he was just trying to get me to come back with an even lower price by initially turning them down. Some guys just always have to think they're getting a deal by trying to beat you up on price.

Sometimes that strategy backfires, I guess.

After just a little lite cleaning, they came out pretty nice:

I hope old Dennis knows I'm just funning with him. He's a good guy and aside from being an F3 pirate behind my back, I really can't say anything bad about him.

Frank knows how much I want those trains. Maybe one day his heart will open up and he will reconsider selling them to me. If not, c'est le vie.

jaabat,

If I had the money, I'd give Frank twice his original offer.  Those F3s he has are a once in a lifetime opportunity.

So, you abandon these girls and show no further interest until someone else is knocking on the door....HMMM, You may very well be crazy.. A sane person would not have passed up such nice specimens.  Make you a deal, if Frank is up for it..... How about a Good O'l fashioned Georgia Egg Shoot.  We each pay Frank a specified amount of money.....in other words, we each pay half of the going price of these babies.  Then, we get a egg, suspended off a string and hung half way down a box with the inside of the box painted black.  Then, we set up at 500 yards and one at a time, take a shot with our rifles.  The person to break the egg, gets the engines.  I have done this, but must warn you, I only needed one shot.

The candy store appears to be closed however, as I had to pay through the nose for these. The coal dump car was $3.00, the auto loader was an outrageous $5.00 and the yard light tower was $2.00 - for a total of $10.00.

Man, I don't know if I'd be able to show my face around here after getting ripped off like that!  Wink [;)]

Nice finds and even nicer prices!

Ya Frank,,,,It is time to think about printing some auction bills.

I can see the bills now:

Train Aucton: Franks trains

more trains than you can imagine, and

this includes his Santa Fe locos

Place: Franks layout, as this bugger is too big to take anywhere else

Time: after Frank kicks the bucket..

this will be a three day auction,,If you are a drooler, please bring your own mop..bring your own truck, and a briefcase full of cash. Referees and lunch will be furnished...No smoking unless you are a Lionel steam locomotive.....

Any questions, bugg the crap out of Frank Now

Hmmmm, who should I sell these to?

Well, there's Dennis, a peach of guy, good post war fan and always has a kind word for folks.

Or there's Jim, geez, last I saw of Jim was this:

Hey Jim, I believe the rules of "First Refusal" state that once you are given a opportunity and refuse said opportunity, you relinquish all claims to that in which you were originally given first refusal there of.....see, I read all those legaleze papers that they have the patients sign.  Anyway, any person who would not want a nice set of engines like what Frank has would be crazy.  If I were Frank, I wouldn't give them up until they were pryed from my cold dead hands.
