Back to the local hobby shop on my way home today and wanted to sift through a few more items in teh wake of Saturday's visit.
This coal dump car - while cosmetically is full of ships and wings and dings, is on my hit list of post war cars I want multiples of.
An "auto loader" sans autos, but more digging on Saturday may yield the original autos, or I may come up with some new loads:
And a honey of a yard light - that is going to look great on this industrial section.
The candy store appears to be closed however, as I had to pay through the nose for these. The coal dump car was $3.00, the auto loader was an outrageous $5.00 and the yard light tower was $2.00 - for a total of $10.00.

Frank, you scored on these. I really like the dump cars. I have 5, but paid much more for each than you did. I would have loved to hook up with you about those Santa Fe F units you sold. Considering that the New England Yank who is too cheap to get a home computer was ready to jump, and that you let them go for half what you offered him, well....it must have been a great deal. Keep up the good work

You did extremely well on those post war items far as price goes. As others have mentioned on my side of Florida these items go for twice to five times what you paid for them, so I am extremely jealous of the great deals you are getting!
Just goes to show that you don't need ebay!
I passed on some Ross Switches at my local hobby shop as I didn't have any need for them and Gargraves tinplate track was being sold with them for $50.00 about a month ago. I prefer Gargraves stainless steel track as it don't rust as easy.

Hey Jim, I believe the rules of "First Refusal" state that once you are given a opportunity and refuse said opportunity, you relinquish all claims to that in which you were originally given first refusal there of.....see, I read all those legaleze papers that they have the patients sign. So, you abandon these girls and show no further interest until someone else is knocking on the door....HMMM, You may very well be crazy.. A sane person would not have passed up such nice specimens. Make you a deal, if Frank is up for it..... How about a Good O'l fashioned Georgia Egg Shoot. We each pay Frank a specified amount of money.....in other words, we each pay half of the going price of these babies. Then, we get a egg, suspended off a string and hung half way down a box with the inside of the box painted black. Then, we set up at 500 yards and one at a time, take a shot with our rifles. The person to break the egg, gets the engines. I have done this, but must warn you, I only needed one shot.

If I had the money, I'd give Frank twice his original offer. Those F3s he has are a once in a lifetime opportunity.
I hope old Dennis knows I'm just funning with him. He's a good guy and aside from being an F3 pirate behind my back, I really can't say anything bad about him.
Frank knows how much I want those trains. Maybe one day his heart will open up and he will reconsider selling them to me. If not, c'est le vie.

I guess he thought $285.00 was too much to pay. Yes, you read that right - $285.00. Although I suspect he was just trying to get me to come back with an even lower price by initially turning them down. Some guys just always have to think they're getting a deal by trying to beat you up on price.
Sometimes that strategy backfires, I guess.
After just a little lite cleaning, they came out pretty nice:
