Yes, it's a starter set loco and tender from the 1990's. I have a bunch of cars awaiting the dip in super Clean before a repaint. And I will most definitely post photos of the decals. Julia won out (no surprise) so we will do it her way!

I've since repainted a K-Line starter set Pacific and tender black. Did that just yesterday with great results. Previously, the loco was lime green and the tender was blue - holiday train I got very cheap! Now to decal it for the Boston and Maine and add a real coal load to the tender!

Thank you all for the gracious comments!

Jim

Very nice job.  I wish I could do the same thing for my two girls (no boys) and achieve comparable results.  Luckily my girls are still pretty entertained by the black locos, so I guess I'll save a "Pink Loco" project for a last resort to keep them interested someday.

P.S.  Would very much like to see after decals are applied!

Jim,

Very impressive paint job. Pink is supposed to be a calming color.  Julia is one lucky little girl.   I would go with her lettering choice.

Jim - just like the pink submarine in Operation Petticoat. Just say they mixed up the red and white lead primers!

How unprototypical!  That locomotive is the wrong color.  Are you trying to warp that young girl's mind?  It is closer to lilac than pink; and any real railroader knows that lilac is used only for hopper cars;-)

Great job, Jim. I'm currently working on pretty much the exact same thing. I bought some cheapo cars at local train shows and just have to get an engine, and then I was going to paint it pink for my daughter. I'm sure yours will love it!

I don't know, I kinda liked Dr John's FLAMINGO theme.  That tender looks a mile long in that shade; definitely right about the details popping out.

Now I know who to call when I need an engine painted pink! Smile [:)]  Gotta say, I like Julia's idea for the decals too!

So when are the boy's getting their own sets?

Right after they earn enough lawn mowing money to buy them! Laugh [(-D]

Jim, You sure know how to paint.  That is a real pink engine and I'm glad Julia likes what her Dad did for her. Big Smile [:D]

On the other hand, please tell me that you didn't do that to an original post war loco.

It's a starter set loco and tender from the early 1990s.

and all this from a guy that several months ago was to scared of trains that all he would do was run them.  Come a long ways BABY.  Jim is a great artist as most of his scenery and lots of his building are scratch built.  Wish I was that good.

So, where is the rest of the pastel-colored train. That flamingo loco's got to pull something! Big Smile [:D]

Jim,

Really a great job!  I vote with Julia on the decals. Definetely creating a real "keep sake", also consider the cab number to be significant also,  Maybe the month and year, or her birthday, or your ages?  Great job hope it gets a prominent display on the layout.

GOOD JOB!  (Not just the paint either)

Thanks, Don. The new cab number is 621. Her birthday. And don't worry. It's going to get plenty of run time! Now to get started on the rest of her train. But first, I'm turning a lime green K-Line holiday train into a black Boston and Maine!

FWIW a bottle of Pepto does make a great flatcar load - I used it as a visual aid giving a presentation once ...

A train that coats, soothes, AND protects!

Seriously, very nice work. I wish I could paint with that kind of skill.
