Got mine yesterday and read it last night. There was a touching aspect to one of the layout tours as the man's wife passed away shortly before the magazine went to press and the story was dedicated to her. I felt quite sad for him.
There were some nice reviews. One that really caught my attention was of the Lionel Hiawatha and cars. Let's just say I am quite pleased I did not fork out in excess of $1500 for the engine and cars. Oy vey!

I got mine on Thursday as well. Some really good articles are in it. Really liked the restoration of tinplate article. It almost makes want to try it myself, but I could see a lot of things going wrong, especially with my record with powered devices!

Mike, that is a wonderful article! And timely for me. Keith is selling me a restored 1688, and I'll be needing some cars to go with it. I'm going to buy some fixer uppers and see what I can do with them!
Notice the photo of the gun blueing solution in that article? I've used that product with excellent results on post war Lionel wheels and trucks. It makes them look brandy new! I highly recommend it!
Got mine Wed. Have only scanned it, but should be some good reading this weekend.

CTT is still great, but now down to under 100 pages. At what point does it make sense to go to 6 issues of 150 pages instead of 9 at 100 pages each, from a cost standpoint? That said, this is an excellent issue, but I think all the issues are excellent :).
I have to say that I also find that some reviews are consistently more critical of Lionel products than about other company's products. I get the distinct impression at least one of the CTT reviewers doesn't much care for Lionel the company or Lionel the product(s). But perhaps it's just me.
I'm also wondering when CTT is going to publicly apologize for going off totally half-cocked in an editorial years ago about the initial (legally reversed on appeal, and largely full of error) MTH lawsuit results? The editorial defamed Lionel and its people, in my view, completely inappropriately. Perhaps contrite admission of that misjudgement will return Lionel advertising to the magazine. Perhaps not. But I can say that as someone with some experience in technical innovation and intellectual property that I have from the beginning found MTH's lawsuit to be about as credible as little green men from outerspace explaining the failure of Lionel and Gilbert in the 1960s. :)
I offer these critical opinions more with puzzlement and regret than annoyance, as CTT is by far my favorite train magazine, and Roger Carp happens to be my favorite author, the closest thing we have these days to Louis Hertz (Hi, Roger). If I'm way off base, I'm happy to be corrected, but if I'm to any extent accurate and fair in my criticisms, I hope they are received as constructive comment on a beloved magazine, not as a flame.
