Hey, just checkin' in from cloudy & rainy Orlando......

Met LeatherFace, Jason and Freddie the K.  Had a short chat with Jason, only 'cause he's from NorthWest New Jersey!!!  Freddie, nor very talkative as was LeatherFace.  Chainsaw was very loud.  Went to downtown Disney today then to Old Town to watch the cruise (drizzled, so that the "sugar cars" didn't come.  Didn't wan them to melt, you see.  Ate at Flippers Pizza at Old Town then back here to the motel  Pretty tired.

Found a DisneyWorld MonoRail set for $70, but runs on battery and is all plastic.

Well, tomorrow we trek on home  Maybe I can take a nap when we get home.  I'm beat, need a vacation from my vacation!!!  Too many late nights (got home the AM @2 up @9am today.

See ya later,

Rich

mistyk - I've bought from WAL-MART in past years, but this year's offerings seem a bit chunky & blah.  The one piece that caught my eye was the WAL-MART Store itself;might look good in the background.  Be sure to check other stores like MICHAEL'S, JO-ANN Fabrics, HOME DEPOT for items as well.  On my layout are SANTA'S WORKBENCH, DEPT 56, LEMAX, THOMAS KINCAID (Hometown series), HEARTLAND VALLEY, and HOLIDAY TIME structures. I even have some MTH and K-LINE buildings.  You just have to blend things right.

Thanks for the info Fife-I guess I'll head back to Michael's for the Lemax ones I found. I love the look of them. I wasn't real impressed with some of the ones Walmart had either. I would love the Dept 56 buildings but a tad bit too expensive for just our Christmas layout. I'll keep my eyes open for some of the others you mentioned. Might be able to get some on ebay as well. Thanks again!

Chief, bet you're glad you did all that work on the pond, sounds like the dam/spillway is working well.

Took son to swim practice then went with friends to a hotdog place.  Stopped at Home Depot for some more 2x4's as well as some foam safe glue.  Put in about 3 hours this evening making legs for the layout table.  My friend John called to see if I wanted help moving it to the garage today, but I asked him to wait until tomorrow so I could get the legs made.

Laz - took your advice and made gussets for the legs.  Also drilled out the bottoms of the legs with a jig and added some levelers.  I'll put a couple pics in the Sunday thread.

Doug M - Our library is okay and they can get a lot of movies.  But, my wife and I actually like to collect favorite old movies and I guess we currently have more than 1000, including some that are on vhs tapes (never released on dvd yet).  If I do take a chance and blindbuy a dvd that I end up not liking, I sell them and end up being out just $4 or $5, and this doesn't happen very often, maybe a couple times a year.    My biggest buys in the past year were the Forbidden Planet dvd in the metal box with a tiny robot toy and the Bava Sets.  I bought a lot of used dvds this year too.  DeepDiscount should be having their 20 percent off sale in a few weeks (biannual sale usually in June and November) and I'll probably buy a few sets I've been watching then.  We re-watch our movies a lot.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Don,  Very practical housekeeping methods, maybe you should write an article for Good Housekeeping!

Jim A,  I read the Rod Stewart article yesterday.  Very well done, by the new editor of CTT.  Trying to get my wife to read it.

Chief, I am finally catching up to you.  Got the greenhouse cleaned up and sprayed with bleach mixture.  Just in time as we have a frost warning for Monday morning, so I have to put some stuff I want to save inside tomorrow.

Watching the OSU / PSU game, not to happy right now.  Hopping for a better 2nd half.

Take care,

Evening all.  Just like a New England Yankee.  Does not know when Halloween is.  OH WAIT!!  That is right, its Halloween there all the time.  Remember all the witches up there. Whistling [:-^]

Did not miss anything in Hamlet.  I had been on the private tour of the depot and seen the layout.  Remember the photos I posted?  90% food venders and 10% crafts.  Lots of people milling around and not moving.  Like the midway at the State Fair.  No fun.  Ate in a restaurant and left.  Wife had more fun with buddy's neighbor's wife on shopping trip to Pinehurst and Southern Pines.  Then we had to stop at a Stien Mart on the way home.  Why we are so late getting home.  Disapprove [V]  Pond is overflowing and up to the edge.  If we had gotten more rain, it would have gone over the road and out the emergency runaround.  Water flying over the spillway.  Later

Poor Jim couldn't take a nap because his fighting, screaming kids woke him up. An expletive deleted or two might have been muttered. The rain let up, so off we will go.

Thanks, Kurt.

Poor Jim has to go all the way to New Hampshire to go trick or treating... Wait, it's not even Halloween. He's getting a jump on everyone. More candy. Very smart.

For those of you who haven't seen or read the article on Rod Stewart's layout in Model Railroader, you don't know what you're missing. It is without a doubt, the finest looking layout I've ever seen. And the best part about it is that he did all the modeling himself. Realistic isn't a strong enough adjective to describe the layout. Ultra-realistic might come close.

We've been running post war trains this afternoon on the Jumijo. 2025, 2056s, and a 736 pulling Brent's repainted tender.

I also got around to building that battery-powered campfire.

Off to New Hampshire for some trick or treating.

Morning from a grey and darkish Crystal Lake where it looks as if it might rain - keeping me from clearing the furniture off the deck and taking down the trampoline. Hurray!

Jim A, I hear you re kid's morning hours. My youngest consistently gets up at 5 am - usually I'm up right along with him, but I wish he'd sleep in sometimes like his teenage siblings - still snoozing.

Jim F, do you ever get DVDs through your local library? We can order all sorts of things.

Just got back from meeting with some guys at the church, picked up some donuts for everyone on the way back - they're fresh. Have one.

Will probably call Justrains about Thom and Friends on Monday or Grzybroskis (whatever it's called). I'm surprised I can't find some of his sets broken-out... Looks like a big day for OSU. Our high school team lost first round of playoffs last night.

Good morning all,

I just finished the overnite threads and I think covering the furniture with dirty clothes to keep from dusting is a great idea. In my 68 years I never thought of that.

KURT,,,,,,Gratiot Valley show...Go east on 696 exit at Groesbeck turn north(left),About 1/2 mile to Martin. turn left again over the RR tracks and there you are.Macomb CC expo center.$5.00. I will be there all day at Wild Bills tables. I have STUFF of my own plus I help them if they get busy.I have two of their tables so I can help them set up and pack. 10am/4pm. Of course if I sell something I will go shopping, just ask for jim.

I hope everyone has  a safe weekend,, Sir James

Posted a question about sound card in my BEEP.  Not working as expected.  Horn will sound but not continuously if I hold the whistle button.  Anyone have ideas?  Could it be my ZW whistle rectifier gone bad or dirty track?

Remember, there is a Yankee (Buckeye) in King Arthur's court, so everything is in code.

Sir James:  I'm planning on going to the train show on the 4th!  Can you tell me where it is?

Today I get the afternoon off, and will forge ahead on the Christmas layout benchwork, and the final go round on the Birney base.  Bride will be off doing shopping and planning for a friend's baby shower this am, so she said I could have the afternoon off!

Girls in for Flu shots yesterday...I spoke to oldest about getting shots when you're not sick...she understood sort of...She said ouch, and that was it!  No crying.  Almost 3!  Whew.

'Tis pumpkin carving weekend for the girls!  The oldest wants a happy pumpkin????

I'll try to carve up a train pumpkin for Halloween...in my spare time.... Laugh [(-D]  Doug???  Can we expect a Thomas pumpkin from you???  We did Elmo last year with ping pong balls for eyes.

Morning to All,

Up at 4:30 this AM.  No idea why.  Must be getting old.  Go to sleep with the chickens.  Get up with the roosters.

Company coming today, so no train time this AM or afternoon.  Maybe tonight or tomorrow I will get a chance to work on the Beep sound board.

Have a great day,

Afte the two proceeding posts, I don't even think I will talk about my Big Boy !!!  I will have it displayed on the hutch in the dinning room though.

Speaking of which, my travelers are in Alberqueque already.  Must have kicked in the afterburners !  Got to get the smoke film cleaned off the mirrors in the hutch.  Can't see the cars as well!  So will spend the weekend cleaning house.  Gotta remember where I put all the dirty dishes. Oh yeah in the tupperware in the refrig., used to put in the oven, but that made the stuff very hard to clean.   She will probably be very surprised to see everything so clean.  All I have left to do is clean out the refrig of the lettuce, fruit, and few other items that she left in there.  Will probably have to do some laundry too.  But that's OK, the stuff has been sitting on the furniture shouldn't need to do any dusting, but I will have to move the wood pieces that I had soaking in the washing machine.  (Was trying to bleech some wood for a driftwood appearance).

Need to pick up some flowers and welcome home balloon on Sunday.

Will have to spend some time cleaning outside too.  As I thought we have had a couple of days with fog in the morning, and ash is settling real fast.  Makes kind of a paste on everything.  The issue is that the Orange Co. fire is still burning, generating more ash.

The fire location has been in a wilderness area in Cleveland National Forest.  but, tonight its moving back to the populated area.

Kays best friend lives very close to the area currently burning and have been on a voluntary evacuation since Monday, tonight its heading back toward them again.  So we may have house guests real soon.  Hope Not, for their sake.

AND THEN..... THE NEW BIG BOY ARRIVES, PROBABLY LATE NEXT WEEK!!!!!!  CAN'T WAIT.
