Change on forum?
Posted by phillyreading on Thursday, November 30, 2006 10:02 AM

Has anyone else noticed a change on the forum, mainly the reply box has moved to the top of a post instead of below it.  Other changes seem to be on the toolbox items.

Just noticed this today at 10:50 am est.

I just noticed it too.  I thought the older post had been removed from the reply screen until I scrolled down.  It's much easier to read, not being in the former almost invisible small blue print.

You are correct in that we posted an update to the forum this morning.  The content editor (what you use to post messages) has been updated.  This fixes the IE7 issues, support for posting images, smilies displayed in a popup window, and a few other improvements over the old one.

I moved the reply box above the text of the post you're replying to so that it's more convenient posting a reply -- no more having to scroll down the page to start typing a reply.  This is really helpful when replying to a very long post.  If you need to refer to the original message, you can still scroll down the page to see it.

Looks really great! Just a comment, since I use them a lot...the smiley faces seem to be cut off at the bottom where I can't tell what the bottom row is. I gotta have my smilies!!!! Tongue [:P]

I'll look into that.  Ideally there should be a scrollbar to at least scroll the window.  In the meantime, are you able to resize the window by grabbing the lower right corner and changing the size of the window?

I don't know about smilies; but the last line of the previous post ("the size of the window?" in this case) is only half there, as I see it.

Hmmmm...very odd. The smile box is normal size and I can see them all when I use the Juno web browser. But when I use ordinary IE6, the bottom row is cut off and I can't make it any bigger. I even tried minimizing and then making it full screen and it's still cut off. Also the last line of the post I am replying too is cut off. And in Juno, I can click "Reply to", but when the Message box appears, I get no flashing curser and can't reply there. Maybe I need to log out and log in under Juno?

I'm not familiar with the Juno web browser at all.  Is that something that can be downloaded for free or do you need to be signed up for their service?

In regards to the bottom row being cut off, for anyone seeing that would you mind taking a screenshot and either posting it or sending it to me?  I upgraded to IE7 and so I'll have to look around for a PC with IE6 (or remember to look at it at home).

If you're not seeing a flashing cursor, just start typing.  I've seen that behavior on the old reply box where there wouldn't be a cursor but once you start typing the text would show up in the reply box.  Weird, but it worked.

Signatures too?  Is that something that just started happening this morning?  Either way, I think I have an idea what it might be.

Juno uses their verison of IE6 browser. But the problem exists in regular IE6. I dunno how to take screenshots so I can't help there. Sad [:(]

Dave: Seems like the bottom line of EVERYTHING is being cut in 1/2.

That's okay, I'll find a PC with IE6.  Like I said, I have an idea what it is, I just need to find the machine to test it on.

Dave Voss,

My e-mail chokes on the return address you sent me.

I'm afraid I haven't a clue about "screenshots".  The computer says it's running "Microsoft Internet Explorer  Version 6.0.2900.2980.xpsp.050301-1521  Cipher Strength:  128-bit Product ID:  76487-OEM-0011903-00101  Update Versions:; SP2;" on an "HP xw4300 Workstation".

Bob: You have to reply to Dave via the e-mail button on the forum. My comp says it's running IE version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 Cipher strength 128 bit and running Windows XPSP2.

I sure hope we don't have to upgrade to IE7. I tried that already and had nothing but problems with it.

I don't see an e-mail button.  He sent me this:

which my e-mail program rejects.  He'll just have to read my reply here.

David, this is not good.  How can I lock in black [instead of Rebel Gray] as color and the font size is tiny.  Also, Ad-ware does NOT like this.  I have to turn off all the popup/cookie blockers and hold down control key tp get to post.  This also causes me to have to wait for everything on that page to re-download [and I'm on Road Runner but some of the users' sites are slow downloading their pictures].  So I sit and wait.  Seems folks make changes and it is not always good for the users.  Maybe more testing in the field is needed.  Thanks

Yep Big Smile [:D]

I'm sure Dave will sort things out. All new computer stuff has bugs in it initially. I still can't post on Juno's web browser over here. I suspect this new forum format was made to be IE7-friendly. Just needs a few tweaks to make it compatible with the more obscure browsers.

Look at the bottom right hand side of the reply box.  You can make the reply box smaller or larger.  Now will it default to my setting or do I need to change it every time.
