Somebody was asking about snow and what to use, I tried this from an article in CTT a few years back. 1) Put down strips of cotton and staple it to the layout, 2) If you want a glitter effect spray hair spray(I used the pump bottle-not aerosol spray) and add glitter flakes(about quarter inch size), the above items can be purchased at a craft store for a few dollars.   It may take a couple tries so don't give up if doing snow!

Don't have it on this layout, had it a few years ago.

Having some fun making an Army train for my son. Picked up a U36B really cheap on e-bay and printed out some images from the internet. A little rubber cement and we have an Army engine.

Dave: Super job on resurrecting the old switcher it is a fine looking workhorse!
John: Great water tower your workmanship is excellent!
Paul the Painter: Great tribute to veterans day keep the supply trains rolling!
Frank53: I have visited your site often and am continually impressed with your attention to detail and high quality of craftsmanship! I will stay tuned because I have am developing plans for a very small layout in a special spot in my garage. Thanks to your pictures I have been able to develop a plan for a similar type of layout but much much smaller.
CSXT30: That is the classiest gravel truck I have ever seen excellent picture!
Walt: You have one of the coolest Christmas train set up I have ever seen! I like the time lapse photo excellent!
Daan: Wow, I think someone is going to call the fire department when they see that much smoke! Nice pictures.
FJ and G: If you built that with a screw driver I guess you could make a space shuttle with a full set of Sanp-on tools, very nice.
Spankybird: Excellent Christmas scenes and I also really like that depot you have!
Buckeye: Another great slow shutter shot, the snow and the lighting underneath makes me feel right at home in Alaska.
Perry: I have never had the privilege to visit the great southwest but looking at your layout makes appreciate how beautiful it must be down there. Nice work!

Thanks!

CSXect, I have one of the two sets that engine came in. The maker is a longstanding mystery. Sask_Tinplater believes it was made by Alps for someone else who stamped their own logo in it. I don't know the company that goes with the logo. It's a nice train.

Thanks for the info I found the trade mark listed in a book on old tin toys but the caption underneth the logo said company unknown. I got the loco and caboose for $15 at an estate auction. I saw a set on ebay and the seller did not know who the maker is either. I guess this gives the train a bit of a story and mystery to add to its charm.

@Frank53, though the photo's on the link you provided are somewhat slow, it has been worth the wait. I think you're building a great layout! I love the Lionel factory. Very nice job!

John, your water tower is the spitting image of this one I saw last summer in SW Colorado.

Nice job!

Paul - I love the floor layout! The smile on your son's face says it all.

Daan - Nice progress. I like how you are using your space.

Dave V. - Once again, you have stretched the envelope of toy trains. You have always impressed me with your creativity and the ability to take things (e.g. washers and bolts) and turn them into running trains.

And to everyone else - thanks for sharing your pics and your corner of the toy train world. I always enjoy the Sunday photos! Smile [:)]

Let's smoke things up a bit..

shedcounty1.5.JPG

This is the tunnel entrance on the grand canyon part of the layout. (under construction, but you can't see thatSmile [:)] ) Right in front of the tunnel there is a railroad crossing, this time I made an isolated section of rail to trigger the signal lights, so there is no ugly sensor between the tracks...

shedcounty1.16.JPG

0-5-0 the engine the other way round and you see this..

shedcounty1.8.JPG

In the city part, a bit of the elevated roads are made.

shedcounty1.21.JPG

On the grand canyon part, the santa fe express train rounds the lizzard rock.

Lizzard rock is an awkard bit of stone, they couldn't blast everything away, so it became half a tunnel.

On the bottom of this photo you can see my new control board, at the back the hill where the forrest will grow in a few weeks time. There is a small road across the forrest where my new fränklin mint tankcar can "drive".

And some smoke to cover the unfinished landscape..

My now good buddy, Ghost of Christmases Past, made a comment last night that I don't get - he said something about a different Ghost visiting with me shortly.  Wonder what that meant? Wink [;)]

Nice visit last night back to 2005: (BTW: upon reviewing these pictures, they look pretty bad. They ARE OK if you click on them and enlarge them)

Are we setting a trend? A Military layout for Veterans Day. Both my kids are on a military kick. The older one 11 yrs. watches the History Channel when they have WWII stuff on. My younger guy, 7 yrs., likes playing army wearing a bicycle hemet and using a piece of Hot Wheels track for a rifle. So I couldnt resist putting a little floor layout together for them.

How did you do this?  What's the snow?  My wife was looking over my shoulder and now that's the look she wants under our tree.  You can email me directly if its inappropriate to reply in this thread (rdavis@environmentalfocus.com). Thanks Buckeye Riveter.

Two emails with photos are heading your way.  I'm glad you like the layout.  We have some modifications to do to it this year,  and I will post some photos when that is complete.

Here is my inspiration for my Veteran's Day parade scene on my layout.  This is a news photo from Keyser, WV this weekend.  You are seeing only 1/10 of the entries.  Most of the fire departments, law enforcement agencies, VFW and American Legion posts, and many more organizations show up. It's a small town that puts on a big show. GOD luv'em!
