    I buy both in the store and do not currently subscribe.  Subscriptions get mangled  in the mail, and cancelling/billing is a hassle.  HOWEVER, the price seems to usually be worth the hassle,  so subscriptions are probably in my future.  Does that make any sense?

I Purchase both CTT and OGR at my local Barnes & Noble. As well as Model Railroader and Garden Railways.

I subscribe to CTT. I used to pick up OGR at my dealer before he decided to stop all magazines. My thought was some people like to have a reason to stop by often. Now I drive 20 miles to get OGR and see what is new on the shelves, at another dealer. I have to; the closer dealer closed shop. I like both magazines, but OGR is becoming a bound copy of one man's instruction sheets.

With all due respect to Allan's response about some being myopic in their O gauge info gathering ,I  think for me personaly, there's the issue of yet another subscription or purchase.
      O gauge trains aren't my only interest and it really comes down to how much can you spend both in money and in time. Don't think there's anything wrong with having a preference here at all since the two magazines are after all really very different.
     And I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

If I'm not mistaken, circulation figures are published by both magazines. As a Williams dealer, if you're looking to advertise in one magazine only, CTT seems like the sensible choice since Williams is more of a toy train company than a scale model company and goes hand in hand with Classic Toy Trains. OGR is more of a high rail magazine with more focus on well detailed scale models. I've been reading both OGR and CTT forums for a few years. OGR forum regulars tend to pick at the stamped handrails and chunky details on Williams engines where on this forum (CTT) Williams is well accepted and to heck with all the rivet counting and prototypical correctness.

Every time one of these informal surveys is posted, I find it interesting how many people today are rather myopic in their choices of information sources about their hobby (and likely in regard to other topics, as well).

For as long as I've been in the hobby, including way back when I was a kid, I have always devoured just about anything and everything I could find relating to trains in general and my hobby (it was exclusively Lionel back then) in particular.  Even back when I was a kid I read not only "Toy Trains" and "Model Builder" magazines--the kingpins of the toy train hobby for a few years--but also "Model Railroader," "Railroad Model Craftsman," "Trains," and a few others, not to mention any book I could get my hands on.

That interest in information gathering remains with me today, and even though I don't read every train-related publication that's out there because there are so many available, I still read at least a half-dozen periodicals on a very regular basis.  And since O gauge is one of my primary interests, I make it a point to read both of the publications devoted to that niche regularly, consistently, and thoroughly.  I just can't imagine being only partially or selectively interested in knowing what is being written about the hobby I enjoy.

And, yes, I know the Internet has changed and influenced our lives (I've been involved with it since even before it became a public medum), but I've never found it to be an adequate substitute for well-researched material that is subject to the pre-publication process that is part and parcel of just about any legitimate publishing effort.

Since the editorial content of CTT and OGR is rarely, if ever, redundant or duplicated, I just think it's interesting that some folks can be content with a partial and incomplete view of all that is published relating to a hobby that is, for most, a pleasant passion in which the thirst for new knowledge is never fully quenched.

I subscribe to neither CTT or OGR but do purchase every issue of each at my local train store. That is until my last purchase of the "other" magazine a week ago. I'm getting sick of the bias shown in their pages and articles and doubt I'll be buying any more. I will probably confine my future purchasing to CTT and O Scale Trains.

I don't subscribe to either.  I have read both but CTT is the one I buy off the rack. Haven't bought an  OGR in a couple of years at least.

Subscribe to and read both.  There is a definite "division" of advertisers - only a few advertise in both.  Budgetary constraints I assume.
