I find it a bit ironic that the title of this forum is "Toy train operating and collecting," and no collector has jumped in here to defend the price as "reasonable."

How many jokers are out there should be the question this time. PLEASE see Greenberg's price guide as I just did for the post-war 6024, top dollar price is $60.00, and that is for the uncataloged one from 1957.

My pickup truck needs to be replaced. Even then I would have money left over to buy trains I really liked. I don't usually spend $40 on a single boxcar. I don't care if it came from Jesus Christ's private collection. Some people!!!!

Since I'm not a collector, but an operator, I've wondered many of the same things. How do you folks that are collectors authenticate something like this?

Wow! It's interesting to compare this with the turbine prototype that showed up on ebay earlier with an asking price of $50,000. This time, the prototype is definitely authentic and the seller has the provenance to prove it, so it obviously has a far more likely chance of selling. I wonder if there will be any takers.
