RR Redneck,
Do I see that you're going with fastrack on a new layout? That's great. I'm using it, too, although no real layout is up for me at the moment. I know your frustration about did I pick the right track--it's a lot of money. Even when I look at O27 on ebay--I'm surprised how expensive it is unless you buy a pile that's rusty. I think Fastrack will be a great system for you, and I will keep it for myself. I will, however, have a couple of trial loops with different materials. I'm also considering using the cheapie O-27 in tunnels and hidden places, etc. Not that it's that much cheaper.
I'd love to try Gargraves, but it looks like hard to work with to me, and busting/cutting a section and ruining it would be expensive.
GUYS IN THE FORUM: What track are you using and do you like it? ALSO: What track system do you want to try and Why?
Keep on Truckin'
Dan
I have always wanted to try GarGraves. I was going to completely rebuild my layout using GarGraves, but ran into a financial block on that one. Hopefully now that I start a second job next week I might be able to save up for the rebuild.
I want to try to go for a more proto typical look while still using 3 rail toy trains. Nothing too fancy, really, but the layout I have now looks like something a 7 year old build. Haha...
well I have some pics of what mine looked like before I moved it into my room.

Wrong. On my new layout whenever I can find a place to build one, I will use tubular track. Nothing screams Lionel like postwar steamers on tradational track.

Colby, have I ever told you that you are the most random person ever. I might as well jump in. http://www.railroadredneck.proboards58.com
yea.. I use to that.. me being random..
so then.. anyone have a progress report on their layout?
oh and check these out!

RR RedNeck, I guess I misunderstood your comments on one of the threads about your track preference. Tubular is so cheap, I'm sure you won't regret it. Take a look at Thor's defense of tubular...interesting. It almost makes me want to go to tubular.
Demon, I see you've got a hankering for gargraves, too. Great. Are you as intimidated by the lack of info on it as I am? I don't even know how to wire it. How does it connect? I've never seen it out of a museum, except for some straights at a train store and I didn't see the mating pins/connectors. Ah, well I guess I'll figure it out if I try a loop or two.
MTL, Stay as random as ever, you're a great asset to this thread!

ok here are some pics of my santa fe engines.
one was taken with a digital cameria (the clearer one)
the other was take with a cameria that has not been use for a few years now.
I'll try to make them larger.
will this work?

Nope. pencil shavings with paint.
I did a lot of work on the layout this weekend. Here is a before pic of one of the main changes.
With the work I did this weekend, I tried to give my layout a permnanent fall look. Autumn is my favorite season, so now I will have it all year. There is also a quick picture of my new engine too.... It's an MTH GP-38 in UP livery. There is also a little of my Lionel Western Pacific U-36b in some of the corners.
It had barely any trees, and the ballast was painted inbetween the rails....
And here it is now..... There are trees all over the layout, there are shrubs and leaves on the ground, and there is real ballast on the rails (which made them suprisingly quiet)...
Yes it is
