Price is one of the biggest reasons that I like tubular track. The main reason though is becuase it looks better to me.

Yeah, they don't really offer too much on the website as far as other features of GarGraves.  They have the video on using GarGraves, (which some have told me used to be free, but now you have to pay $10 or $15 for it), supposedly it said how to lay it, how to use flextrack, how to wire it, how to use switches, how to make it prototypical, how to use ballast, etc.  The only understanding that I have had about wiring it is that you solder the wires underneath so that they are hidden from plain sight.

RR RedNeck, I guess I misunderstood your comments on  one of the threads about your track preference.  Tubular is so cheap,  I'm sure you won't regret it.  Take a look at Thor's defense of tubular...interesting.  It almost makes me want to go to tubular.

Demon,  I see you've got a hankering for gargraves, too.  Great.  Are you as intimidated  by the lack of info on it as I am?  I don't even know how to wire it.  How does it connect?  I've never seen it out of a museum, except for some straights at a train store and I didn't see the mating pins/connectors. Ah, well I guess I'll figure it out if I try a loop or two.

MTL,  Stay as random as ever, you're a great asset to this thread!

Wrong. On my new layout whenever I can find a place to build one, I will use tubular track. Nothing screams Lionel like postwar steamers on tradational track.

I have always wanted to try GarGraves.  I was going to completely rebuild my layout using GarGraves, but ran into a financial block on that one.  Hopefully now that I start a second job next week I might be able to save up for the rebuild.

I want to try to go for a more proto typical look while still using 3 rail toy trains.  Nothing too fancy, really, but the layout I have now looks like something a 7 year old build.  Haha...

I use Life Like, Power-Loc system HO. cause it's the only track I have.lol. and because my first packs were half off at a train show that was in town. and it works great if you can't have a perminate layout all the time.it just snaps together.

RR Redneck,

Do I see that you're going with fastrack on a new layout?  That's great.  I'm using it, too, although no real layout is up for me at the moment.  I know your frustration about did I pick the right track--it's a lot of money.  Even when I look at O27 on ebay--I'm surprised how expensive it is unless you  buy a pile that's rusty.  I think Fastrack will be a great system for you, and I will keep it for myself.  I will, however, have a couple of trial loops with different materials.  I'm also considering using the cheapie O-27 in tunnels and hidden places, etc. Not that it's that much cheaper.

I'd love to try Gargraves, but it looks like hard to work with to me, and busting/cutting a section and ruining it would be expensive.

GUYS IN THE FORUM:  What track are you using and do you like it?  ALSO:  What track system do you want to try and Why?

Keep on Truckin'

Danrunner is in the house.  Hey, guys,  how's things?    On my end, my wife starts her new job in early November--it takes 2-3 months for an ohio medical license.  Further,  we haven't found a house out there yet.  The town, Cambridge, does not have a lot of nice houses.  We like 2 story colonials (all brick)  and hardwood floors.  There's almost nothing there.  If we can't find anything right away, I might stay in Indiana with our daughter for a few months until we can hopefully find a house.  Anyway,  this situation is taking forever to settle out.

MTL,  Demon,  good to hear from you guys.  Keep us up to date with your train exploits while my stuff stays in boxes until the move.

Keep on Railroadin'  and layin' track.

Dan

PS Best Wishes to All!!!  Have a great day!

Well, I got the final approval from the editor of the school paper, the sponser of the paper, and the high school principal. CHS sees yet another layout on its campus.

That's pretty interesting that you actually will have a layout at school.  Make sure to post pics, I'd like to see what you end up doing with that.

Getting back to our subject of toy trains....

Has anyone started working on a Halloween layout yet?  I have my board ready and painted, but have not gone into the storage room to take out the ceramic buildings and such.  Hopefully I can do that this weekend so that I can make some spooky scenery and not only have it up for 2 weeks before Halloween.  This will be my first seasonal layout, so I want to start it off right.

Aside from that, where has Danrunner been?  Is he in the process of moving at the moment?  Dan, if you're out there, check in with us.  We'd love to see how you're doing.

Can you say DEE DEE DEE? Really, how much common sense does it take to NOT do something stupid like that. I live way down south in southern Texas and even I have the common sense to not do something that stupid.

Hello All!   I have about Three 1688 Torpedo's, One 1668 Torpedo, & Three 1688E Torpedo's & a Newer version made by Lionel in 1998 from the prewar 238E Tooling. It also uses the Frame from Lionel's B-6 Pennsy Switcher (Which was also a prewar engine made from 1939-42 & again in 1989) This new version has Railsounds,Command Control,Smoke, & Magne-Traction also. It is a nice running engine & is smooth. However, the smoke output is not great & the Marker Lights do not light.( The light is a Grain of Wheat bulb inside of the Headlight Lense. As a result, the light does not get to the Red Marker Lights)  As for postwar engines I've got the following: 736 Berk, 2046 & 646 Hudson, Two 675s (One Disassembled) A 2034, & a 637 ( A Variation of the 2037 series) For Modern Trains I have the Milwaukee & Broadway Limited Passenger Train sets from the 70's, A Burlington SD-18 from 1981, The 8002 Union Pacific Berk from 1980, & a Allegheny Freight set from 1971. & a 8101 Chicago & Alton Hudson from 1981. Plus various Freight Cars & Signals as well. Demon09- Sounds like you're very sensible. Same with Modeltrainlover. Eric- Just be careful with your driving & take care. I'll talk to you guys later.
