I won a set of conventenianal Lionel FT AA and I want to repaint them and a set of the upgraded 027 detailed cars(NYC since they are already silver-just rename them) to FEC of course. My question is to you is would you all do it? Who do you recommend?

I would do it. These are nice runners, but not particularly valuable, so go for it!

well its new and you got them for free so yeah but be careull about it if you EVER want to sell it like 50 years from now then no personly i wouldent paint them i would sell them on e-bay and buy the williams f7 a-b-a #7-308 (fec) thoes burlington units are $199.99 each and the williams are349.95 shiping is 15.00 if you need to see them then its on the back cover of the september isue of clasic toy trains so your gaining 35$ if the burling ton reaches 400 wicth it will do easly i think at least you will get 345$ put that as your reserve so that you wont take a loss on the williams units but thats just me

don't know if I understand that last post - but I think the Lionels have an advantage since with railsounds. I'm not a big fan of the williams f7's everthing else they make ids awesome - F7's are a bit dated!

Oh man, I love that Burlington paint scheme. But they're your engines - go for it.

Forgive my newbie-ness. But can't you buy a couple new shells for them? Or is that too much $$$.

I have seen plain unpainted shells at several train shows. I have always thought about buying those to paint.

I think Oscaletrains is referring to the Williams F3 sets that are accurate reproductions of the Lionel post war F3s. The Williams F7s do have an odd look to them.

As to your question, Yes, If you want to paint them, go ahead. I certainly would. If you could find the unpainted shells at a good price, you could paint those and sell your shells.

I would get new body shells and kep the Burlingtons.(Which I think look pretty cool).Remember that these FTs are near mint and not beat up so get new shells and re-paint them.i re-paint postwar and MPC F_3 shells but only if they are scratched up and dirty.Just re-painted a Preamble express in Santa Fe Warbonnet Livey and itcame out greatCan't say enough about Microscale decals they are the best)!

Looks like somebody missed the block signal to me, or got hit from the rear at a stop sign. ( Probably on the cell phone)..... And I cringe when one of my Marx jumps the rails.
