TRY?????KEEP UP???? The correct phrase is; That due to our Buckeye Teamwork we SURPASS, EXCEED, BEAT, BETTER, BEST, OUTDO, OUTSHINE, OUTSTRIP, and TOP the Roseyville Rebel.

Needless to say, when we see a photo, other than of you and two mangy suthern mutts posed beside your trains on the floor, comparable to the photos of the OTTS Meetings, we will know that the NCTTS has officially become a reality. By that time OTTS will have celebrated its 25th Anniversary with over 1,000 members.

Just think - it only takes a hand full of us Rebs to keep all those yanks at bay. Other than the Chief, we sit in reserve reloading ammo, sipping sweet tea (sometimes with a little J.D. added) and grinding grits to send north while he does a great job of fending off all you yanks.[C):-)]

The last time I was in Ohio I tried to order iced tea (didn't even ask for sweet!).

I was informed that "it was out of season."

Go ahead and give up. You all have lost this battle. [^] The more you all add, the deeper you all get. [:p]

Watching the weather this evening, even the jet stream is siding with us Rebs, its blowing straight west to east keeping that cold air where it belongs, up north and letting some nice warm gulf air move into Dixie.

I think it's time for a Forum Convention. The only problem is where to have it. Some will want it in Ohio and someone else will want it in North Carolina. There must be a neutral state somewhere! Or maybe there is a hotel that is ON the M-D line.

Sons of the Confederacy. Want to know the War history of the first person in the Eagles family I am named after? Want to see my Rebel sabre from my Dad's Mom's Dad*? Want to see the letters from my Mom's Mom's Dad [a Daws, now Dawes, he was stationed on the Outer Banks to hold the Yanks back]?

*Interesting story: My Grandmother on my Dad's side. Her Dad [a Davis] was badly wounded by some Yank in some battle. A fellow soldier picked him up and carried him to a field hospital. Thus helping to save his life. Later after the war my Grandmom's Dad went to thank the fellow. Met the fellow's sister and she became my Grandmom's mother.

Nothing but GRAY in these veins. [:D]

In fact, NC gave more men to fight for the Confederacy than any other state. Where was the last Army of the Confederacy surrendered? Not Appomattox. Benton's Farm House between Raleigh and Durham NC. Now talk about NC.

Some of us have never surrendered. [;)]

The following brings a tear to mine eyes! [:D]

Beautiful Ohio

I sailed away;
Wandered afar;
Crossed the mighty restless sea;
Looked for where I ought to be.
Cities so grand, mountains above,
Led to this land I love.

Chorus

Beautiful Ohio, where the golden grain
Dwarf the lovely flowers in the summer rain.
Cities rising high, silhouette the sky.
Freedom is supreme in this majestic land;
Mighty factories seem to hum in tune, so grand.
Beautiful Ohio, thy wonders are in view,
Land where my dreams all come true!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original Chorus as written by Ballard MacDonald

Drifting with the current down a moonlit stream
While above the Heavens in their glory gleam
And the stars on high
Twinkle in the sky
Seeming in a paradise of love divine
Dreaming of a pair of eyes that looked in mine
Beautiful Ohio, in dreams again I see
Visions of what used to be.

Chief, I think you can handle this like Sgt. York (another from Dixie) who took on the Germans. If you need backup, just give the ol Rebel Yell! I used to say that if you were into trains, you can't be all that bad, now I wonder.[;)]

That little handfull I can handle with one hand and sit and whistle DIXIE at the same time. Probably eat a bowl of grits with the other hand. Sure is strange how they have to drag in folks from the other states. Jimbo Duda, Roy has been helping me hold those Ohio Yanks back while I was eating lunch, dinner and sleeping. You can be a deserter but remember I have lots of fishing buddies [one train buddy near SA, goes to train shop there] in Texas that have a strong dislike for Yankess. They will hunt you down. [;)]

I think I bought a few items from Ohioans on eBay. These are the guys who stick it to ya with high handling charges! Just kidding. I just had to confess the little bit of Ohio connection that I had. that and I went to college in Pittsburgh. Of course that was when I was young and stupid. Then I got smart and moved south.

Dave,
When can you come over and see your telegraph poles on my layout? I have had quite a few compliments on them this Christmas. Wednesdays nights are bad for me, but other days will work.

BTW, when I see you again, I have an idea of something you can make and sell in wood. Something no one else makes!! But every layout needs one!!

To all,

When I first started reading this, I thought about posting as I am a member of OTTS. Then I read dtpowell's comment about the "Beautiful Ohio", and I felt that deserved some commentary as well. If you want true emotion, be a Hooser and listen to Jim Nabors sing "Back Home Again in Indiana" before the start of the Indianapolis 500. Buckeye, I think you know what I mean. Not even grits can top that.

Keep on training,

Mike,

This wasn't started as an OTTS thing, but just to see how many forum members are in this Great State of Ohio.

OK so maybe we will draft a few new members into OTTS or Buckeye will start a Mid-Ohio chapter of OTTS and have meetings in the Columbus area.

Hi, my name is Rick, and I'm from Ohio.

(Hi Rick!

In all non-seriousness, there is an awful lot of bulls--t in this thread, but I will state for the record that I live in Mentor (just 5 or six miles down the NS main from spankybird), I fuss around with 3-rail 'O' gauge and I'm a fan of the old Nickel Plate and the defunct B&O Fairport branch line.

Oh, and a very big fan of the fine beers brewed by the Willoughby Brewing Company, located in a converted Interurban car barn.

I don't live in OH, but I was born in Cincinnati and lived the first four years of my life in Batavia. My first toy train layout was in OH, so I have fond memories of that. Haven't been back for a visit in years now. All my relatives retired and moved to the sunny south and west. [;)]

I saw Waylon Jennings perform at Ponderosa Park once. That's in Ohio. Oh - and I've been to Seaworld and Cedar Point, too! But I don't live there.

Where was I going with this...? [%-)]

Buckeye,

I thought of all you Ohio guys last night. At the dinner table, my wife asked our 5 year old daughter where her friend Olivia has been. My daughter replied, "She's in OHIDAHO visiting her gandma". I had all I could do to keep from laughing.

With all the roll calls you Ohio guys keep doing, What's happening ? Are you getting lost in the snow?, or suffering from cabin fever? or just plain have a hard time remembering names?

Wasn't he once the mayor there somewhere, or was it govenor?

I also heard he is suppose to be the MC for the state convention.

Maybe that why all the roll calls, they can put all the lists together and have over a 100 names.

Jim Sturgeon, Portsmouth (really Sciotoville) Ohio, Home of what was once the largest rail yard in the United States. Right on the sharp bend in the Ohio river, within sight of the C&O Bridge that was designed and built by the same folks who built the HellGate bridge. At one time a main rail line north south. Lots of rail history within 10 miles.

After 45 Years in Ohio and 34 Years with Republic Steel Corp We moved to Mesa AZ for My Wifes health. She
ran out of health four Years ago and I am still here in Mesa AZ. Please welcome me as an Ohioan as well as My Son who lives in(Near) Ohio City on Clevelands WEST Side, and My Daughter who lives in North Royalton. Don't forget my Sweetheart aho lives in Niles. I am now getting a life back after much stress and misfortune---and I am now selling Trolleys once again.

Jim, I did some work on that new bridge across the Ohio at Portsmouth. I have also seen Roy Roger's boyhood home. Isn't Sciotoville on US 23?

Great to hear from all of you Ohioans!

Lived in Northeast Ohio for 37 years, both Akron and Cleveland areas. Nothing beats a summertime visit to Cedar Point in Sandusky, relaxing at the Lake Erie islands and spending time watching trains in Bellevue by the NS yard!
