What train set is in Holiday Affair movie?

In the original with Robert Mitchum. I know it is Lionel but what set or any info.
Was there a Red Rocket Express set or just one just repainted for the movie?

Thanks in advance.

Here is something I found under a google search.

"The first time that I saw the 1949 Christmas movie "Holiday Affair" was Christmas 1973, the year Debby and I got married. This memorable movie stars Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh and the Lionel Red Rocket Express. Unlike other trains that appeared in movies over the years, The Red Rocket Express is actually a central character. It makes multiple appearances, is shown in detail and causes other characters to act-out their parts. It doesn't matter that this train is not Marx, it still can have a memorable effect on enthusiasts of any scale or brand. I highly recommend this film for any train enthusiast."

"The train has an impact on little Timmy that many of us can relate to, back when we first received, or just wanted that special train."

"Lessons in family values, a love affair and Harry Morgan as the Christmas Day judge all make this a delightful story. The impact on me, is reinforced yearly as we watch the film. The great department store layout that is featured has helped inspire our annual layouts. The warmth and values expressed, have inspired our annual get-togethers. It may sound corny, but if trains can likewise inspire better values in us, train collecting is far more than a hobby."

Happy Holidays,
Jim Flynn
President, Marx Trains

Looking for more.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas

The cars that it pulled were Lionel Madison heavyweight cars. The "Santa Fe" and "Lionel Lines" letting on the engines and cars were changed to "Red Rocket Express". So, to answer your question, yes, it was made up for the movie and not something Lionel ever made. I wonder what ever happened to that train.

In the opening scene, a 726 Berkshire can also be seen pulling a consist of heavyweight cars around the store layout that was operated by Robert Mitchum.

========================

As posted above, the Lionel (former "Santa Fe") locomotive and passenger cars (former "Lionel Lines" were both repainted and labled "Red Rocket Express".

According to Gordon Gebert, the boy who played Timothy Ennis, he was given the train set when the filming ended.

This must be one of the most valuable Lionel train sets in existance... as it is one of a kind.

I'm not sure what the " N " means.  Can you elaborate?

I just finished watching the original on TCM. Not only liked the trains but actually liked the movie too.    Wayne

I saw an interview on TCM with the actor who played "Timmy".  He says he still has the train.  Now THAT'S a collectible!
