Clockwise or counter clockwise ?Which way do you run ?

A thoght just went by me while cleaning up behind my 9 year old's training adventure.He had an Alco on one end and a U-boat on the other end of a small train.I couldn't figure out what way he was wanting to go[?] So it came across me.Do I run one way more than the other?I guess I do prefer going counter clockwise than clockwise for some reason.How about you and your layout ? [:)]

Mainly counter clockwise. Most horse races are run that way, also speedways etc.
Probably natural to right handed people, which most of us are. Put people in a featureless desert and they will walk in circles, counter clockwise, because most are right footed as well as right handed, and the right leg takes a longer, stronger stride.
So counter clockwise is normal for right handed persons. Maybe someone left handed will tell is which way they like to run their trains.

Clockwise during "Daylight Savings", counter during "Standard". Only use bridges during a "Leap Year". Joe

You make a big assumption that everyone has a loop of track. At this time I do, but when complete, trains will run both easbound and westbound on any track, meeting and passing along the way.

Since I run concentric loops that are following the same basic oval shape, I run them in different directions on the various loops to break up the action. ie, counterclockwise on the outer, clockwise on the next one in , counterclockwise on the next one, etc.

Hey,hey Big-Boy-4005,what comes around goes around[(-D].Not all of us can read every thread all the time.And some new members have just started viewing this forum.Be more kind,and gentle.And I didn't assume everyone has a loop,but some people do,because they responded.[:D]My temporary layout has a loop,and a reverseing loop.But the stationary layout will have a loop,but be much more complex when done.[2c]

Well, I don't mind recycling threads - - - gives newcomers a chance to contribute a bit - isn't it interesting how the same things seem to come up again - I know I've thought of threads only to realize I've already posted something like it myself. I run clockwise on my rather convoluted and twisted loop. It seems against nature to go the other way...

I'm left handed and I run my trains clockwise. Two loops of track now means the outer is clockwise, the inner - counter clockwise.

Some time ago I read in American Flyers operating instructions that the engines ran better one direction that the other. If I remember right it was clock wise. I avoided this topic the last time but could not pass up sticking my nose in this time.

I run a large scale Christmas train on a small 4' diameter loop. I switch directions every once in a while on the theory that it will even out any wear on the wheels.

Don't know how much difference it makes though.

How fast in scale would an O guage diecast train have to travel in order to complete a 360º (060 - 5 foot) inverted loop pulling, let's say, 5 cars behind it?

Could a Lionel Hudson or diesel do it?

Flex Trak would be a good canidate?

Has anyone ever tried this? I have never heard of it.

I'd like to see it....some 3-railer could possibly set a record?

The rotational spin of the Earth dictates that trains North of the Equator should run in a clockwise direction... those in the Southern Hemisphere run in a counter-clockwise... there is not sense trying to do otherwise...
