Explain Your Name

Has this been coverd already? A lot of us use monikers or "user names" instead of our real names when we post on these forums. some are pretty clever, like Chief Eagles [;)]. I'd like to see some posts explaining some of those names. How did you come up with it? What does it mean? That sort of thing.

Good topic, Jim. Mine is cnw1995 - Chicago and North Western and its death-date when assimilated into the UP: 1995. It is the road that used to / still runs through our town and that I still commute upon into Chicago - 16 years now of riding the scoot - let's see at roughly 46 miles ea. way - 92 miles a day. 4 days a week - fifty weeks a year. Need a calculator to figure out the miles.

Dr. John = Dr. (Doctor of Ministry degree from Samford University) + John (my name).
Actually, that's what folks in my church tend to call me, so it's easy for me to remember.

Here's the real story about the my forum name Buckeye Riveter and my signiture as you see it here on the forum. [;)]

As many of you know I live in Central Ohio, the Buckeye State, near a crossroads that is named Roger's Corners. A small creek runs through Roger's Corners at an elevation of 936 feet.

I am a graduate of Purdue University in Civil Engineering and for the last 30 years have been part of the design or construction of many major projects. I actually had a class where I was taught how to design riveted connections. I am a Hoosier by birth, a Boilermaker by the grace of God. In the old days, one of the nicknames for the Purdue sports teams was Riveters. Therefore, combining the Buckeye and the Riveter nicknames became my forum name.

The photo that you see with the signature was taken in 1955 with my first electric train, a Marx. I love the photo because it reflects the joy of a young boy with his trains. A joy that has lasted over 45 years. [8D] (The photo makes it very easy to spot one of my replys on a posting.)

People from Roseyville, NC call me a pain in the A@$. [:0]

I was not a high academic achiever my first 2 years in Engineering at Virginia Tech. In fact I was down right on the verge of failing out. I went into a final exam knowing that I needed at least an 88 on the final to PASS the class. So you can imagine what my grades were like. Anyway, I took the test, thought I failed and was leaving when someone said "is that yours?" It was a small plastic lizard under my chair.

Since no one else claimed it I picked it up and put it in my pocket. The next class we got our tests back and much to my surprise I aced it. I took that plastic lizard to every test I ever took for the rest of my undergraduate, and then later when I went back for my masters. I graduated in 93 on the dean’s list and had a 4.0 for my Masters.

I have also carried it on every airplane flight I have been on since then. Because, as I've said before, "have you ever heard of anyone ever finding a plastic lizard in the wreck of an airline crash?" Nope, didn't think so. Call me superstitious if you want.

As a teen my older brother put the two together and called me Craignor the Barbarian, after the Arnold movie Conan the barbarian, as I was quite big and boisterous.

When I first got on the net, instead of being Craig39 or something boring, I remembered Craignor, and have used it ever since.

The 1688 Pennsy Topredo is my all time favorite engine that Lionel made.and it is also the First Train set my father bought as a teenager in 1939. As a result, since my Father is deceased the train brings back good memories of him and I chose 1688torpedo as a screen name.

Guess it's suppose to have come from a relative in a Suffork town (no longer in exisistance) in England called Powelltor Born 1599, Died in Isle of Wright, Va. late 1600's.

Actually, when I found this site, I didn't think about using my regular RR handle (Threerails). I just registered my real name. The Threerails name is obvious. Lionel track and the maybe not so obvious 3rd rail of a rapid transit subway (One of my most favorite things!)
