Hallmark Christmas Collectables
Posted by Dr. John on Friday, September 2, 2005 2:33 PM
While in a local bookstore, I noticed that the Hallmark Christmas decorations were out. This year they have added a Lionel Pennsy B6 0-6-0 with tender (sold separately) and NYC Wooden caboose. They are very nice reproductions of the originals and are about N scale in size. I plan on adding the B6 to my tree this year to go with the F3 I got a few years back.

Too bad I can't afford the real thing! [:D]

Dr. John, thanks for the heads up. At Christmas we put a tree up stairs, just outside of the train room that we decorate with train type ornaments we have collected for the last thirty years.

I saw the new ornaments yesterday--B-6, tender, boxcar, and caboose. Although they are kind of nice, they just don't have a "Christmas feel" to them (and they are costly), so I decided to pass on them this year. I may try for the day-after-Christmas sale when you can usually get them at 50% or more off, but I'm not going to worry about it one way or another. I have pretty much the complete collection of earlier offerings, with duplicates of some, along with a tree decorated with nothing but Hallmark train ornaments, which I keep up year round, but I think I've reached my saturation point.

Over the last 25 years, I have collected about 16 Hallmark ornaments. The ones I have plug into the lights and have trains running around in them. Some have 2 trains. I understand they have increased in value.
They really look neat. I don't think they make them anymore.
I have seen the ones, you guys are talking about, and they are nice.
