Pat, according to the link you provided, I found this:[#offtopic]

Most Powerful Steam Locomotive

The world's most powerful steam locomotive was the American No.700, tank engine built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1916. It had a tractive force of 75,433 kg. (166,300 lb.), working compound, and 90,519 kg. (199,560 lb.), working simple.

Oldest Steam Locomotive Still In Use

The Fairy Queen was built in 1855 by Kitson, Thompson & Hewitson, of England. Used until 1909, it was restored in 1966, and between October 1997 and February 1998, it made several trips along the 89-km line between New Delhi and Alwar, India.

FYI: A Neat Link

From a PA postcard circa 1959:

"World Famous" Horseshoe Curve

I have seen a very nice model layout on the net with this curve worked into pretty realistically.

HAPPY STEAMIING!!

Ah, memories... Isn't it fun to be so positive about every team in February? I thought the Sox might win their division and was thrilled about the possibility of that - but frankly never dreamed they'd make it this far like this...[:D]

yo cuz, that whole booing of santa clause thing is blown way out of proportion. it was before i was born, but there has been a story on it. ok, if u will believe me, this is what actually happened. the regular santa didn't show up, so they pulled a guy dressed like santa outta the stands, and as i heard it was all in fun. the guy playing santa was even egging it on and had no ill feelings.
and we do boo, and i feel that that's better than just letting a team slack off or suck w/o letting them hear about it. if the indians go out day after day and play like dogs, i would hope u boo them instead of putting on a smile and saying it's all right boys, there's another game tomorrow.
I don't feel Bowa was a tyrant, i feel the players were just babies and couldn't deal with a guy who expected great things and voiced his displeasure when they failed. i'm just afraid with manuel the players are gonna get too complacent as they were under francona. and wow this is long...if u care for me to explain anymore, just let me know.

JOCLI,
Now that the Phils got rid of that tyrant BOWA it will be interesting to see if Charlie can make winners out of them. But remember win or loose they win still BOO in PHILLY. Gee they even BOOED SANTA CLAUSE back in '69 at an EAGLES game.

PAT
I had a baseball card that had The MICKs homer on it and it showed the flight of the ball. Had an arrow that showed whereit went. Wish I still had that card probably worth a nice train today?

Doug,
I just looked it up at http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/content_pages/record.asp?recordid=45659 Of course they don't mention bounces[;)]

They're saying the record is 634ft! Unbelivable is right. They should measure were the ball first hits! I guess The Mick's lucky there were no buildings in the way.

Hold on here.....i see all this talk about Cleveland and Chicago, but what about the Phillies. I think the Phillies are one by one bringing the Indians past to play for them. O man, can't wait to see old kenny lofton and Charlie Manuel be the saviors of the Phillies. Eddie Wade seems to think they will, so it must be so. to get a train involved...How 'bout we send good ol' Ed Wade to one of your towns on Amtrak, any takers?

Man, it's hard to figure this out - in the air? counting bounces? There's a lot of myth to cull out. I think the Mick's hit mentioned above was registered from where a child picked up the ball - more like 510-512 ft - still unbelieveable - at Griffith stadium in 1953 - his hit in Detroit in 1960 counted all the bounces in getting to 600 ft. I think you could do this better by decade - Cecil Fielder certainly hit the longest, most recent blasts in the 90s at Detroit

[#welcome] danguarddog, good to see a twins fan here. They are my favorite AL team. No money, bad owners, bad support, and yet they keep winning. Wi***he Padres could figure out how to win on a budget.

Instead of talking about all these new steroid guys, I miss the Harmon Killebrews, the Jim Kaats, The Tony Oliva's, those were ball players.

Hope you learn a lot here, ask lots of questions.

Also cool how you tied in baseball, just like they did in Brewsters millions with the train. That was cool.

By the way does anyone here know who hit the longest homerun ever ?

Lets Go Twins, Im from Rochester NY and we field the Triple A team for the twins, best move Rochester made in years, to dump the Orioles and become the farm team for the twins. I love that MLB package, I can watch the twins instead of having to be stuck watching the yankees and mets. Looking foward to a couple road trips up to Cleveland to see the twins play. Been doing this for the past 3 years. Great ballpark to watch a game in.
And to make this train related, our ballpark in Rochester serves two purposes. You can watch a ballgame, and also watch the trains from CSX go by. The mainline can be seen past the outfield.

Yes you are right about Barry Bonds that it (the steroids) doesn't help hand eye coordination. But if you are a regular baseball player you already have those traits otherwise you aren't going to be very good at the game. He has played the game ever since he was probably 5 years old, so he has hand eye coordination. What the steriods do is enhace his power of instead of a routine fly ball that same ball now has a little more bat speed to carry out of the park. As far as I'm concerned Hank Aaron is still and will be the king of home runs. Bary will always be an *.

If you already hated Barry, the press conference didn't help. On the other hand, he raises a good point: steroids don't help hand-eye coordination. The power may have been enhanced over the last couple years, but no one can hit like that guy. It is nearly impossible to get him to miss a pitch. That's not steroids. And now with Alou behind him in the lineup, he might actually get more to hit.

If I lived in San Diego, I would be excited about how bad the Dodgers will be. Actually, I live in San Franicsco, and I am excited about how bad the Dodgers will be.

Go Pat Go. I can't wait - hearing the Barry Bonds' press conference was saddening. He's one deluded dude - blaming the media for making a big deal of the steroids mess- won't take questions about anything.

The seat changing is a thing of the past. With most of the lower box seats sold out, they check you ticket stubs every time you return to your seats. The new Jack is great, I have been in the lower box, upper noise bleed and even in the special rooms. Just wi***he pricing was lower.

I am a person with a very active inner child. This is why my wife loves me so. Willoughby, Ohio - the home of the CP & E RR. OTTS Founder www.spankybird.shutterfly.com

Sounds like the old Padres days. Pay for the cheap seats, and then sit in the box seats. As a kid, it was cool. New stadium is great, but boy are the prices different.

TUROTIM I haven't been there yet. The time I was there they were out of town. Maybe this year I will make it out there and have a SUMMIT meeting at TOMS. The old stadium was great. Big place lots of seats to see the game. Changed seats after every half inning so you can get the feeling from a different view. Nobody was there back then so you could do this.

Jerry Coleman is the best. Best way to describe him. CLASS.

To bad all of baseball isn't like him. I miss baseball before drugs, steroids, all business no more loyalty.

I would love to see all the fake homer guys, sosa, mcguire, bonds, have their records erased, or asteriked: used drugs to enhance.

Although bonds did hit for a tremendous average, and I don't think the steroids helped that, he still cheated, therefore asterik record. Baseball should have cleaned up their act years ago. Best part of the Padres, they are so bad you know they didn't use drugs to improve. [:D]

Defination of a true Padre fan ? We don't come close to winning the division, but we beat the Dodgers more than they beat us.= winning season.

Hope the Sox beat the Yanks again this year. And Go Twins. Best little team in sports. No money, bad owners, yet they win, win, win. Kind of like the New England Patriots.

Yeah, I want a toy train night - first 10,000 get a free Big Boy ;) Great idea. Heard this morning Frank Thomas won't be around for a while - healing slowly - I don't think the Sox will miss him with all the guys capable of hitting 20 homers...
