74 and sunny.  Agenda today is water.  Chances of rain look good for Thursday and Friday.  Tomatoes turning ripe.

Didn't sleep well.  Think a shave and shower will help.

Thanks for the prayers.

Enjoy the day.

Chief, A shower is required since it is the first day of the month. Why wait, get it over with and you will have the rest of the month to not worry about one. Clown

"Eggs, ham, sausage, pancakes and waffles."

Sounds like a "Super Lumberjack" breakfast selection at any number of Jersey diners!  (And if it's a REAL Jersey diner they serve breakfast 24 hours a day.)

Jeez, NOW I'm hungry, and the nearest Jersey diner is 350 miles away!

Morning all.

Not much to report.  The long weekend was a nice break but without dad it was less than perfect.  Always keep in my mind the reason for the weekend.

Finally took the cover off the pool last night as they are calling for rain the next 2 days and then 80s+ over the weekend.  As usual crystal clear water.  I don't know what I do to deserve it but the pool gods are good to me.

Used to eat a lot at the Meadowland's Diner right outside the sports complex in East Rutherford.  Always a decent meal.  I can still remember they wouldn't call Boston Cream Pie, Boston Cream pie.  Something to do with the Patriots.  LOL!

Here is a video from this weekend's train run.  Enjoy and stay safe.

Morning. 73 and cloudy. Dogs and I chased a batch of squirrels out of the bird feeders. Coffee and Thick Egos. Now relax.

Good news. Slept 9 hours. New record. Slept 6 1/2 hours without waking. Then right back to sleep.

Speak to the graduating class of the 8th graders at Rolesville Charter Academy at 6.

Should start having rain tonight. Watered yesterday so all is fine. Side dressed all my veggie plants before watering.

Yeah, I get it, "escapee" may be closer to the mark than "exile."  Like you, we got to the point where endurance ceased to be a virtue.

Mornin' boys and girls. Damp and 65 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Ran trains last night for FifeMax during a brief Lightning. No pile-ups, but the main had an conductivity "hiccup" that I'm gonna have to remedy.

Having breakfast with engineer buddy this morning. Not much planned after that.

Yesterday BIG train with Moorefield grade-schoolers. Didn't lose anybody. Yes

NRHS Chapter museum has a N-scale display layout that doesn't run, so maybe I'll try to fix that this week.

Got a birthday present from Buckeye! Thanks!

Good Evening -- - -

Working late on Dispatch - queue has cleared up so I have a few -

Busy last night - at 6, arrived for softball game where I went 2 for 2 with an RBI, played first and catcher - alternating.

Finished up in time for Mercer County Fireman's Association Trustees meeting at 730, 745, the Exempt Association Meeting and then full County Association Meeting at 8.

Done at 930, ran over to my house for a quick measurement and spoke to my future SIL.  Off to the Firehouse to fill out a service award form so all attendees would get credit for the meeting(s)

So, I'm a bit sore and tired.  Obviously, I'm skipping the drill tonight.

Continued Prayers for Chief, Doug and all in need

Say, there are at least 3 diners within 1.5 miles of here ---

I move to FLA USA in 1992 and moved BACK to NJ USA in 2010 -say what you want - there is nothing like Jersey - if we could remove the corrupt politicians and lower the taxes ---- lol

Diner Food is THE Bomb diggity - Engagement Partyt of the Proncess and her betrothed on Saturday  - I'll see my Ex then, she's coming up - this could be exciting....lol....

My fiancee is going to meet her, I'm ducking out if there is fireworks, lol!!!

OK back to work, another 35 minutes or so.

Thunder and lightning here and 60s - 80s thoriugh the weekend

Ah, Entenmann's!  We got lucky, they followed us down here.  Not everything in the product line though, I love the "Apple Puffs" but can only get them when I'm up north.

(Why they call them "Apple Puffs" beats me, they're so heavy I call 'em "Apple Bombs,"  but man are they good!  Nuke 'em for about 30 seconds in the microwave for a hot treat that's great with a cup of coffee!

One other tasty treat thing that I can only get up north is Drake's "Funny Bones."  Kind of like a "Twinkie" but made of devil's food with a chocolate coating and a peanut butter filling.  I loved 'em when I was a kid!  I remember the taste being a bit more gutsy when I was a kid but I have to be fair, my taste buds have 50+ years of wear on them now since the last time I had 'em.

It still ticks me off that they discontinued that Yummy Coffee Cake with all that streussel topping and powdered sugar. They replaced them, out here at least, with those crappy little individualy packaged ones. Ick!

Happy Birthday to Da Chief!!!!

Been nuts on The North Bluff last few days. Bang Head

We had an end-tail on the house that looked to be rotting. After looking closer I found it was full of THEM!!!!!!   What a mess, but it is put back together today. Price you pay to live in the woods.

So it has been tear it apart to fix it and kill the ants along the way. I found a pile of sawdust on the train layout under where they were having their house party. Looked like the layout had been invaded by monsters. Laugh Most had jumped to their death from the top of the basement wall and landed dead on the table. Ant killer is working.

May be an image of outdoors

Yikes 'K, that's a horror!

I remember when I was a kid my father used to treat the area around the house with an insecticide called "Chlordane."  Good stuff, Dad always followed the directions and we never had a bug problem of any kind.

The trouble was, some people didn't follow the directions (Bang Head) and wound up poisoning the areas around their houses!  So, then it was no more Chlordane, it was pulled off the market.

The same thing happened to Diazinon, I used it around our house and never had a bug problem either.  Now I let Loyal Pest Control deal with it.

Hello there.

HAPPY  BIRTHDAY  Chief and prayers.

Kev........that coulc be serious

Been quite a week. A laid back Memorial Day was capped with a family get together at daughters place. Picnic/Birthday Party for Grandaughters 14th.

Tuesday started with a bang. We had a steer penned ready to load for the butcher shop. While getting ready I was shocked to see him standing in the yard. How he squeezed out the window I'll never know. The chase was on. Son was afoot and I grabbed granddaughters 4 wheeler. It took almost an hour but with help from Mrs, daughter, SIL and one of SIL's employees we got him back on the right side of the fence. He was so wound up we didn't try to get him in the trailer after that. I had to manhandle the 4 wheeler out of ditches hidden in the weeds several times and a couple of places it wouldn't fit. Took a toll on this fat old guy, still recouping from that.

Then last evening about 7 I got a call from daughter, grandson had been hit by a car while bike riding. God was watching over him, the most serious injury was a broken wrist. It happened in a community park, the driver was purportedly going 5MPH.

Spent today trying to catch up on yard work. Drag tomorrow. I'm not sure but I think son is skipping it to get ready to plant corn. I'm doing yard work again.  There's a Hillclimb on Sunday, we won't miss that.

Bed is calling

Prayers for those in need

Mornin' boys. Sunny & 62 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Wedding day for niece, so Fifey has to get all dolled up.
Wifey and I went on our little shopping tour yesterday, with visits to CVS, Lowe's, and Tractor Supply. She picked out some cute outfits for the grandbabes, and almost bought a camo outfit for newborn, but thought better. When we dropped the outfit off to Middle Princess's castle, there was the youngest babe in camo, to celebrate National Bubba day...

Banks - I had a similar accident in middle school;totally my fault. Glad boy is ok. Glad you didn't get the bull by the horns.

If you want SPF tomorrow, best start it, as Fifey will be tied up. Well, hopefully.

Slept 5 1/2 hours. Then started reclinerizing. Sister IL calls and then Wiley keeps barking at something out front of house [Wifey had opened front door so he sees all walking by]. Get dressed and go get meds.

Thanks gang for all the wishes and prayers.  Spent most of yesterday at hospitals [test and treatments.

Wifey off to baby shower for her cousin. Got another one tomorrow for our friend.

Steak later today.

77 and sunny. Beautiful day.

Enjoy

Morning folks!

Sun is in and out - apparently got a nice shower early this am as yard/street very wet. Below normal temps continue but looks like upper midwest gonna need their shorts. Not clear to me how it can be below normal down here and 'way above' normal up there (i.e. 100!).

Banks - glad the GS is ok and no bull Whistling

Kev - Bummer about the ants. My experience is they go in where rot has already started. They only like soft wood.

Chief - Angel - glad yesterday went well.

Roy and Banks, your right! It could of been worse. I think I got them. The first day after the spray there were hundreds of dead ants on the layout. I have been sucking the table clean and checking every morning and today there were only two. Yes So I think we are getting there.

MAN it is hot for this time of year. it was 90 at noon???? Nuts.

Wife and I took a road trip to pick up an old milk can in a town called Paw Paw. I cut the bottom of the can out and use them to cover the ugly well head. Wink Scary part is the last two I did the bottoms were sealed on with Lead!!!!   Surprise      We stopped in Serena for lunch and then when I got home I did a tank of Trimec as long as it is so hot. Should knock the weeds down fast in this heat!

Banks glad the boy did fair. sure could of been worse. I remember chaseing a show cow for a 4-H show that got loose in a over your head corn field. What a PITA! Gramps was so mad he said he would shoot it and eat it but it would be bad meat with that adrealine rushing through it after the chase.  Laugh

Some before and after shots. We have 70 of these on the house. The ones on the south side take a beating from the direct sun.

End removed cleaned and ready for new cap.

Finished

True cabin, I wish,,,,Nope just a log sided home, could not pay for the real thing. Also a lot of un-wanted issues with true log homes. As for the fireplace, yeah we got one but I don't have a flintlock above it,,,, just my trusty old Savage Stevens 987 22LR from about 1978 for when needed. Used to be ready on call but with grand-kids it is trigger locked but loaded. Wink

This is where we were having the problem.

Morning/afternoon folks!

Poured rain late last night for a couple of hours. Rain storm/t-storms just kept reforming over our area of town.

Worked up some energy yesterday afternoon and started removing the old/cracked dash from the El Camino. Picked it back up today around lunch and finished a few minutes ago. Started comparing the old to the new - determining where I need to remove/transfer/mount critical metal brackets (new dash does not come with the metal brackets). New dash looks good but is a thicker material than the old - thus some some of the metal slip/speed nuts may not fit. Have to drill out rivets on the old to get the brackets loose - will use stainless screws, washers, and nylock nuts vs pop rivets to fasten the brackets onto the new dash. This is a big project but an enjoyable one. Unfortunately the a/c defrost vents are brittle from years of sun and all the mounting tabs are broken loose. Will have to find a way to support them.

Chief - hang in there through the treatments - prayers!

Kev - as you have a "log veneer" I assume those exposed ends are decorative and from the pics use the ends of the veneer to secure them. The issue I see is they get wet - no way to stop rot unless perfectly sealed/no check cracks which is nearly impossible. Knowing I am talking to the choir with you - I have repaired things like that with layered (treated wood and dried for a few months) 2x(6's, 8,s, etc. fill in what you need for width)'s glued up with outdoor/exterior glue like Titebond and then shaped to size. Install and stain. You can avoid the wait using untreated wood - but more care is needed to protect the wood. I constantly keep some treated lumber around to dry it out for when I need it.

Regards, Roy

Way hot for us!!! Still fighting the ants, staining and touching up caulk on the siding .

Roy they are solid pine blocks of wood nailed to the solid face boards in left and rights. Not a thin log veneer. Like kilm dried 2x4 but cut to look as hand hewn lumber.  No glue, always wet when it rains, just hanging on the face board and the end block is not nailed to the house and no sealer in the cracks but the stain and OUAD caulk to the other boards. It all came pre-stained wrapped in package material. Built to fail?? In this case the face board was still good, I had 14, now 13 extra ends because they screwed up on the original order. So I just removed a block from one of the spares and nailed and glued it to the face board, Then we sealled everything and re-stained. I have had problems over the years where the OUAD caulk would pull away and had rot.  The chimney was re-done about 4 years ago because the seam the builders made for the corners out of a D log was not sealed and the water got to it. It has been an on-going PITA!!! But wifey wanted it. In hind site here in the woods I should of done James Hardie concrete board siding. Laugh  All and all I can't say much, it is 15 years old this year and only the south side of the house and all of the end-tails have been re-stained so far.

Kind of like this  but pre-stained.

Mornin' boys.  Overcast and 72 along the Potomac Highlands.  Will head up to chapter museum today to attempt to get their N-scale layout up and running.

Spent the weekend in Lancaster County, attending niece's wedding. Nice affair on an old estate. Since we were close to Elizabethtown, tried to go to Star Barn/Stone Gables, but they were closed. Was hoping to see the 4-4-0 Leviathan.

Good Afternoon!!!

Friday night spent most of the night prepping for Saturday - Moving tables and food an stuff like that.

Saturday moved more stuff around and set up, ran to Mom's for vacuuming, then showered and took the bike to my house.  Met up with my ex and her husband - we did talk throughout the day, Mom came over and she sat with them for a while - Jenni showed up later as she had to work - so the ex and future bride talked a lot - Party was a success, we were home in bed by 11.

Sunday we did practically nothing - we didn't get out until after 3, had lunch at Capt. Paul's Firehouse Dogs. Cap is a big supporter of the Military, Fire, EMS and Cops.  Hadn't been, I had 2 dogs with chili and BACON - outstanding!! Vanilla ice cream for us both afterwards.
Still trying to sort out pools - they don't stay inflated - I hate buying this stuff from the internet, but Jenni - wellllll......sigh....

90s throughout the weekend and today as well - Rain later and the rest of the week

Prayers for Chief and Bank's Grandson -

Banks - that was some Bull story - lol

May have to work again tonight - asked for off between 530 and 730 then close until 9 PM - so I can get to my softball game

That's all from here -

Celebrated daughter's 30th bday last night at their 'new' house. We had a good time.

Mrs and I celebrate our 35th anniv today - think we will go to a white tablecloth restaurant tonight.

Kev - that is great you have spare parts! I have to make my own.

DJ and Anj - you guz are very busy!

Took 4 hours, but Fifey got the chapter's N-scale display case up and running. The committee chairman told me they've been dormant for 12 years. Yep. Woof... Lots of oxidized track, warped curvature, and derailment inducing switches. I realized, right away mind you, why I switched to O-gauge 25 years ago.

Good Morning -

Hot and Steamy here in Central Jersey

1 for 2 with a walk and run scored - we lost by 3

Worked until 530 to get to my game, then returned by 730 to work until 9, that turned into 10, as 2 shops out of Hawaii decided they wanted to get 3 cars done - I scanned 2 of them, the other one is scheduled for 6 AM their time - Noon here.

Primary day in Jersey - time to figure out who will succeed in challenging Das Fuherer Phil Murphy......I'll do that at lunch - Mom is feeling well enough to work a half day at the polls.

Line/Exec Meeting tonight, I have to return 2 tables to the FD, then a ramp to Jenni's work.  May stay at Jenni's.  Her AC is on at her house.  Mom is comfortable at 90+ in the house.....me, not so much, lol

Nice work, Fife - Yeah, Miss Jenni LOVES her N scale - exactly why I do O gauge......

V8Dennis - 25 to life?  They should be executed (if found guilty, of course....Whistling )

OK - off to work - I'm working Noon to 9 tomorrow, so that should be interesting....

78 degrees and HUMID. Cloudy but very low chance of rain per guessers.

Slept messy. In bed for 2 hours. On couch for 1 hour. Recliner for 3. All this pain meds don't work. Just makes you high, see things and thirsty. Also can't type. Fingers all over the keyboard.

Ultra sound at 2. Radiation at 3:45. Both at same hospital facility. They have shuttle to get me around.

Have a good one.

Morning/afternoon folks!

Raining again first thing this am - officially we are 2" over (DFW airport) for 2021 - unofficially we are 6-8" over in the burbs.

Thanks all for the anniv congas! We had a very nice dinner last night at a nice restaurant. Been about a year since we went to a nice place.

We are going to visit my BIL this afternoon and take his dog to see him. BIL is in bad shape mentally - in and out of reality. He is now in a special care place for dementia - he can stay there unless he gets rude/mean or violent.

Chief - continued prayers on the treatments. Also been through the pain killer & sleep regimens - not long until they no longer help and then other problems/side effects start - I have learned to just live with the pain and interrupted sleep. Staying busy helps. Hope your issues are more temporary than mine.

Regards, Roy

Don't feel bad, I'm claustrophobic, Didn't know it until I tried to become a submariner when I was in the navy and they put us in this small room ( more or less) to do a simulated escape from a sub and I started having big problems, yeah I got disqualified from sub school.

Good morning folks!

Cloudy and very muggy - the rains and the cooler temps have moved on - temps will hit our normal hi-80's/lo-90's - and with all the moisture on the ground - gonna be ugly - like Houston or New Orleans in August - Ow!

Spent a couple of hours in the afternoon working on transferring the metal mounting brackets from the old El Cam dash assembly to the new reproduction dash. A bit of a science project. This will take a few days due to original parts not really fitting the new mounting holes. A tedious but pleasant project.

Today is one of my 6 week checkups with the cancer surgeon doc after lunch.

Becky - hang in there! I close my eyes and concentrate on other things.

Best of wishes for your check-up. :)

I have an eye exam today. Boy, do I ever need new glasses. These are falling apart.

Still waiting for the carpet to be put in the train room. ( 22 June 2021) Ordered 29 March, almost 2 months wait. Then I can start working on my new layout and get things back into the train room. I have stuff in this room behind me, three stacks about 6' tall and about 2' wide each, 3 closets full of stuff, an area in my barn-type shed loft of about 7'W x 12'D and 2' - 3' H. My main concern is stuff behind me and stuff in the shed. ( shed is climate control so weather-wise not worried just want it out of there. I insulated it real well and have heat and A/C in there.

I have a bunch of guns and ammo that just sits as I don't think I would enjoy going to the range by myself

Same here.  It's just plain different without a partner to banter and compare notes with.  The antiques look good over the fireplace but aside from that I haven't busted a cap in a long time.  Maybe  in the future I'll try it again but for now I have fun playing with the trains!

Good afternoon -

Late post as I started work at noon eastern - I'll be on until 9PM Temporary shift change.

Meeting went well, some admin issues, but the parliamentarian will investigate and suggest course(s) of action.

Was in the car and about to head to Jenni's when we had a fire call - I made first due - car fire on the Turnpike - car got rear ended and caught fire - everyone made it out - the Magnesium show when hit with cold water was very cool.  I used the jaws to pop the hood, then rolled up the hose when we were done.  Wrapped that up and headed to Jenni's for dinner.

We have set the day as June 4th, 2022 - hopefully our annulment paperwork will be completed and we'll be done with that.
June 4th in History: World War II: The Battle of Midway begins.  I hope that that is not a bad omen - lol.

Cut the lawn this morning before work - yeah, that was a bad idea - waaaay too hot, but I can't do it this weekend.

Will try to get the tables back to the FD tonight - last night was elections and we couldn't get up there.  So, tonight..............

Rain and thunder rolled through last night but wasn't much rain, the humidity is back - more of the same for later today.

The Ex and her husband returned to Florida today.  I hope my daughter had a nice visit with her.

I'm off to Mt. Airy, MD on Saturday for a wedding - I'm escorting my Mom - some ritzy campground or some such - I'm just driving, lol

Becky a- you got this, sista!!

Prayers for good results for Chief, Roy and that's great News, Banks!!!

OK back to work - will check in when I can.

Evenin' boys and girls. Mowed most of the lawn between the raindrops this morning, then helped Ms Kelly clean the air duct vents. The rest of the day has been spent re-wiring the #1 Main in the train room, complete with new power feeds. I did find a 100' spool of 20/2 electric wire at Lowe's, and it did the trick. No longer have to feather the throttle when the loco gets to the most distant track work. It turned out to be nearly a two volt gain. Also replaced hidden Lionel trackage on Upper Line, with Atlas Industrial Rail, for continuity. Again, train runs smoother up there now.

It was just announced that my former boss at WMSR is being replaced by the BoD. Good luck to the new guy. Hope he can get that entity turned around.

Morning all!

Partly sunny and will be HOT and MUGGY! Summertime! Cool

Well Doc visit went well - I am where I am supposed to be - but doc told me in response to some of the painful side effects I am dealing with that it will be a year to 18 months before I heal up from the radiation treatments. Was not really wanting to hear that - but knew it in the back of my mind. Oh well...

Bought some Evaporust at Harbor Freight to soak some very rusty dash mounting brackets. Wowzers! Worked great and brackets look like new after a 4 hr soak. Had seen Evaporust used by several Youtubers for tool and machine rescue/rebuilds and decided to try it out. $30 for a gallon but well worth it vs wire wheeling stuff and it gets into crevices a wire wheel or brush will never reach. Had tried some of the other methods using household stuff like vinegar, but the results were not as good and it takes a very long time for a mediocre result compared to the Evaporust. Next time I have a rusty toy train part I will give it a try.

Kev - congrats on the GS making the all-star team!

Roy, Evaporust sounds interesting.  Can it be re-used, that is put it in a bucket, let it do its thing, then pour it back into the container for future use?  It sounds like something I can use for some railroad lantern restorations.

Wayne - Yes. Keep using it until it quits working. Iron/etc will settle out. Non-Toxic. Biodegradable. Uses a chelating chemical process vs acid (like vinegar). For me it worked as advertised. Like some of the pics in the link below. Amazing.

https://evapo-rust.com/evapo-rust/

I think it would work great for removing rust from steel lanterns. My brackets were stamped steel. I have seen it remove rust from cast iron in YT videos.

Always test on a similar part before doing something that may be irreplacable.

Good morning!

Cloudy and hoooomid - 90 today - 240 heat index Cool

Spent yesterday working on the new dash. The thickness of the new molding is twice that of the original (a good thing) but that means few to none of the stamped panel U-nuts fit (a bad thing). Existing ones allow 1/8" panel thickness and the new dash requires at least 1/4" - which are scarce/hard to find. Took a lot of time to test fit all the trim panels to make sure they fit and not under pressure (37 yr old plastic trim panels crack easily under pressure). Had to do some grinding here and there. Now I am priming/painting all the underdash metal mounting hardware to minimize it rusting again. Also having to fabricate some small hangers for the wiring harness as the original had barbs woven into the harness that plugged (basically permanently) into holes in the rear of the dash. The repro dash has the pads but not the proper holes for the barbs - and all but one of the barbs broke when I pulled them.

Where ya going, Mt. Airy Lodge? For those unaware, that was the place that advertised here in NJ in the last 70's, early 80's for weekend getaways where you could get a room with a heart shaped pool.

Ooooooohhhhh yeahhhhhhh, I remember those ads!  Some others might remember with THIS reaction:

Embarrassed

Anyway, Mount Airy Lodge is long closed now, I remember reading an article about the auction of the assets, including the heart-shaped tubs.  The reporter asked a woman who purchased one "Aren't you just a little concerned  about what might have happened in that tub?"

Her answer?  "Oh, I'm sure it's nothing a little bleach won't take care of!"

Embarrassed

Whoops, looks like I was mistaken!

Good morning/afternoon all!

Started out the morning with T-Storms and rain - now sun is out - to make sure it gets super-hooomid! 90's today with a heat index of 310! It's a hooomid heat!

Dash brackets are painted - as it is enamel paint it needs to cure for a few more hours - wiring harness hangers painted and installed. Test fitted the instrument pod - realigned the pod double-ended, keyed bolt/nuts that I did not notice previously (good catch). This is taking longer than I wish but I am fixing multiple mounting pads that I did not realize initially...ie. the ash tray was an option - and it has its own light in a special housing that requires a custom hole in the bottom under the radio/AC controls.

Regards, Roy

Only one dead ant in the basement this morning. Yes

Still dry here but pop ups Storm have been hitting everywhere but here. Tongue Tied Had to run the AC in the shed yesterday to do anything out there, way better today.

Not much else.

Prayers for you all in need.

Mornin' boys. StormLightning and 70 in the Potomac Highlands. Was gonna head up to the chapter museum, but no. Need to stay home and comfort FifeMax; maybe run some trains for him (calms his nerves). Just finished vacuuming the den, and even moved the sectional. Surprise Missed my mouth a few times, apparently...

Worked yesterday on the Potomac Eagle. We got word of a famous globetrotting Ohio dignitary's upcoming visit, so the staff has been hard at work polishing and cleansing.

Got my CTT, and really love the look of the Lionel Western Pacific GS. At 2 grand, will have to admire it from afar.Sigh Didn't receive the last CTT, as prob lost in the mail.Sigh Nothing in the can for SPF as well. Sigh

Afternoon folks!

Hot hot hot - sittin' outside at 2 pm? - not not not!

Work continues on the dash assembly - installing all panels/bezels/components (i.e. radio/ac control/ac duct adapters/speaker grills to ensure it goes together - might get done this afternoon - test fit tomorrow?

Dennis - this is not a restoration - this is to have it not look like a junkyard dawg!

Good day for racing - NHRA, Indy Car, NASCAR - excellent end to the Detroit Indy race!

Mornin' boys and girls. Clearing and 63 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. May mow the lawn later on after the dampness dissipates (look at me using big words). Didn't like the disjointed format of the Nascar All-Star race last night, at all. Didn't get any frantic calls from the Chapter guys, so I'm guessing their N-scale display ran smoothly.

If you like watching trains on youtube, check out RBP Trains. Young fellow has a pleasant style, and the segments are edited well. If you like a little European flair, check out Mouldy Raspberry, great scenery in an attic loft layout (OO). And for your midweek fix, check out Laz's Whistle Stop Wednesday (pgwadd).

Good Morning,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I just got a call from the Chief this morning.  He is in the hospital with Pnuemonia!  Went to the ER last Thursday as a result of coughing up blood, they kept him and was initially concerned it may have been cancer related and found out he had Pnuemonia in the left lung.  So of course they are monitoring him very closely and monitoring his blood/oxygen levels.  Of course his radiation treatments have been suspended for the near term.  He told me he would probably be there for a couple of more days.

His attitude is very positive, but isn't feeling very well, and tires quickly.  Definitly could use all the prayers and thoughts.

As I receive anymore information I will definetly share it.

Best to all and Take Care and Stay Safe!

Don

Thank you Don! Prayers for the Chief! Angel

Hit 99 here yesterday - a bit unusual as it was 164 in the shade...Mischief

Got the dash all together and all parts installed for fitting/trimming. Will have to make another special bracket for the wiring harness "plug" that the instrument pod "plugs" into (makes it easy to remove the pod for service - well - except getting the speedo cable loose...) as the repro dash shell is over 1/4" thick and all the hardware for the dash, inc the wiring plug wing clips, requires a 1/8" thick max. This repro dash has required a lot of custom fitting/fiddling/etc. I also still have the 'fit' of the glove box door to mess with. Finally there is the decorative fake wood grain plastic bezel that goes from the upper middle to the far passenger side that contains the center and passenger AC vents, vehicle logo, etc. - it snaps in but all the tabs broke off - this can be worked on after install - may have to punt and use some nice screws to reinstall it.

Becky - yeah - not sure why we had to endure 30 min of post-tennis match celebration in a foreign language...the NASCAR All-Star shootout was good/interesting!

Mornin' boys and girls. Sunny and mild along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Last night was thunder-boomers, which meant a train running session to sooth FifeMax. There were some pile-ups, mainly due to "jumpy" pony trucks, and a "touchy" AF E-unit. Also, noticed the tri-plane had fallen from the sky, and into the timber trestle. Should have taken a pic, but was in no mood.

Might not hear from me for a bit, as visiting with Fifepup and his fiancé a few nights. Again, if you want a SPF, best get to-it (as Banks would say).

Good morning team!

Sunny and guess what - HOT! To be 196 in the shade today - and - the Texess power grid is under stress...

Everyone here - inc all journalists/broadcasters - bought into our feckless governors/legislature's rhetoric and 'drank the kool-aid', believing the recent 'changes' to our state power coordinator (which also owns the transmission lines/transformer sub-stations) - Oncor - would address the power generation/delivery issues highlighted by the Big Freeze outages. Well shuffling an organization with no authority to enforce rules they make or levy fines into the same organization that has to make more rules with no authority to enforce/levy fines fixes...wait for it...nothing (no surprise there, eh?).

12,000 MW of generation is off line - some due to ongoing repairs from the Big Freeze and...wait for it...new repairs related to the extreme heat. If one pays attention to the news organizations 'flyovers' of the power plants during the Big Freeze and from last night of our Big Heat (uh - normal for us), one clearly sees rusting structures that are clearly from years of neglect and deferred maintenance. If the exterior is poorly maintained it is safe to assume the critical operating gear is poorly maintained. A product of our broken open market and unscrupulous operators 'squeezing' every last dime out of an aging facility.

Annnnd - there is a big high pressure dome over west Texess where all the wind generation is located...wait for it...which does not generate much energy with little to no wind. There is also a lotta solar generation in west Texess that shuts down as the sun goes down (geee - that kinda happens every day).

Soooo - rolling blackouts may be incurred, but...wait for it...as happened during the Big Freeze, Oncor's aging switchgear (again more deferred maintenance/upgrades - some of this stuff is 40-50 yrs old) that controls rolling blackouts will likely fail in the high heat as it did during the extreme cold.

Got the two items on the El Cam dash completed yesterday - (1) the glove box door aligned and latching - (2) fabricated an adapter plate from sheet brass for the instrument pod connector/plug and got it properly located/screwed to the associated dash area. This took quite a bit of fitting/grinding. These two items took all afternoon. The front decorative trim bezel is all that is left. Son plans to help me install it this afternoon. This may turn into a 'session' since some trimming may be required to actually get all the mounting holes lined up and the wiring harness to hang in the new hangers I fabricated.

Continued prayers for the Chief! Angel

Morning folks!

Super sunny and already HOT. Yesterday was not as bad as thought - only hit 167...today - about 167....

Got the El Cam dash installed (minus the radio and AC controls) yesterday - looks very good. I will have to do some fiddling with it for final fit - but all the mounting holes except two on the upper dash (by the windshield) lined up. I think I have some of the wiring harness in the wrong position which is preventing it from sitting without some strain. This would be a bear of a project had the windshield been in place. Dropped the instrument pod in and turned it over a couple times. Lotta burned out dash and courtesy bulbs to replace. At this point I am going to take a break as I need to back away from it for a few weeks, do some other stuff.

Kev - yeah - bitcoin mining would require more power plants that take about 5-10 yrs to build.

Good morning all!

Hey Dennis! - I posted yesterday!!!

Went over to Daughter and SILs house for a while yesterday - an electrician was installing a new circuit breaker panel. The house had one of the Federal Electric "house-a-fire" panels from 1977 when house was built. Famous story about the millions of these things out there with circuit breakers that do not trip on a ground fault/overload. They knew this when they purchased the house and the replacement was planned for. I was checking that they were installing additional grounding bars to current code. Took the entire day. While in process we learned the previous owners had 2 ft (!) of additional insulation blown into the attic. Nice. The house stayed cool all day even though it was 188 outside.

Prayers for the Chief!

Hi you two!

Well day two with NO ants to be found, I think I got it.

I did see a small antifreeze leak under the XUV since the heater install and found a loose hose clamp, so I tighten that up and all is good.

Weather has been very nice but that ends today going back into the 90s again. Hot for us.

Heading out to Princeton about 40 miles away in an hour to pick up the Mantle clock I had to have the movement changed in. Go figure Caterpillar gives you a gift for 35 years of service that don't last. Tongue Tied

We get the grand-dog tomorrow till Sunday because the kids are going out of town tomorrow and the grand son has All Star ball games on Saturday.

Dennis, thanks for the reminder, I got a tire with a slow leak I need to air up on the Ranger. Smile, Wink & Grin

Prayers for the Chief and anyone else that needs them.

TGIF

Prayers for Da Chief

After work, made phone calls to all the prospective 2nd Assistant Fire Marshall applicants for a short talk at our next County Association meeting.

Fired up the road runner and headed to cruise night to be with Jenni and her Charger SE 440.  The ol' 383 ran great with a new set of Champions blowing up that nice cool air/fuel mixture.

Afterwards, she treated me to Chinese dinner and watched the last of the Yankee game ( Yankees WIN!!) and a video of her High School Graduation - 29 years ago yesterday.

Home before midnight.

FINALLY will move tables back to where they belong, Jenni will get her mortgage refi done.  Then more discussion of the wedding plans

80s today, 90 and more humid tomorrow - hope to get my friends '69 Super Bee running on all 8.

Good job on the ants, Kev.  We had a problem with them, the exterminator came out and we still had a few, until I sprayed the bathroom, under the toilet and around the cabinets and they are ALL gone now......

Surprise.  Last Wednesday week, went to ER coughing up lots of blood.  Stayed in hospital until this Wed. evening.  Radiation burnt my throat during all this mess.  Had a surprise pneumonia.  Was so deep they had to run a tube down lung and wash it out.  On supplemental O2 as normal breathing is 88 to 89 blood ox.   They want 90 and above. Wifey stretched a 50' O2 line to office.  Now I can get to PC.  Laptop in Train Box.

Sad, my farmer lost several hundred acres of tobacco the other week in a 9 1/2" rain storm. Not on my farm but he is like family. No plants so can't replant.  More rain coming tomorrow evening.

Wifey is picking garden.  Coming off good.

Thanks for all the prayers.

Morning all.

Glad chief made it back home, prayers continue for his full recovery.

getting into the packing mode, as I'm moving around the middle of August, As long as V.A. approves the house, the inspection goes well tomorrow, & get final approval of the loan. ( have preapproval). A lot nicer home and not on a busy street. This is a nice home but noise from the street gets unbearable at times. At times it sounds like a drag strip at night.

The new house is 2029sqft. It's about 140 miles north of where we are now.

Hope all have a good day

Happy Fathers day Dads!!

Chief glad your home. Keep up the good work.

No real plans today, they are calling for rain but I have heard that before. Dry as toast here.

Daughter will be coming to pick up Nala later and eat a father's day meal.

So I have just been  hanging out with the Lankey legged house guest, Nala. She is getting way better, but still has a lot to learn. She likes riding in the Gator but when she is in there, there is no room for anyone else. Laugh

Have a great day!! Yes

Happy late Father's Day gents.  Been busy at work and the next 3 years looks like we'll be buried.  I guess I shouldn't complain but then again I don't want to live at work either.

Glad Chief is back home!

Not much going on.  Yesterday was the first FD without dad.  Just wasn't the same.  Kids came over for a little bit.  Got some pool time and dinner from the girls.

Stay safe everyone.

Hello there.

Ray.......glad to hear from you. Come back more often.

Chief glad you're back, Prayers continue.

SJ........belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I'd wait till 4th of July to gas up the snow blower.

Roy......El Camino progress!!!!!!

Checking in this morning from Fenwick Island DE. Haven't been talking time to post due to vacation prep. An uneventful trip down Saturday. Hope all had a good Father's Day

Spent yesterday afternoon on the OC Md. boardwalk watching the Air Show. Pretty interesting. Saw some of our latest aircraft and a P51 that was polished to look like chrome. Disappointed because the B25 was a no show. Show was capped with a 40 minute performance by the Thunderbirds.

86 degrees and guessers say 100 heat index due to humidity. 5.62 inches of rain this month.

Radiation each afternoon this week. Hope to get a portable [one like a big pocketbook you put over shoulder] O2 so I will have more freedom.

Hope all are doing good.

Mornin' boys. Raining and 64 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Today will be spent resting after vacation at FifePup's new abode, outside Orlando. Actually, he's closer to the Gulf now. He's a dock master on Kings Bay, and he took me to work to show me around. While we were standing on the pier, a young manatee surfaced right next to us. Pretty cool. After picking me up from Orlando/Sanford, Chris and his fiancé took me to a restaurant called Puddle Jumpers, on Lake Dora. It is a seaplane launch, and it was cool seeing them land and takeoff. Added bonus, Florida Central RR tracks run right beside the shore. Friday, took a ride over to Venice, where we met up with FifeDad, for a long overdue visit. Had dinner at Sharkey's beside the Gulf. For Father's Day, watched the Nascar race, while FifePup fixed us chicken Parma. Good eats. Nice visit to their new home, and will be heading back there in November for the wedding.

Chief - Best of luck with the "zapping". Angel

Smokey - Best of luck with the new digs. Did we call of the carpet job?

Morning gang, 56 and sun on The North Bluff. Will not get above 84 in the next ten days. This cold front came in with a cost. EF3 tornado ripped up some towns in the area closer to where I used to live. A EF0 hit my sisters place and knocked over a dead tree on top of her car and she lost some of the shingles. Sounds like that will get her a new ride and roof. Smile, Wink & Grin

Sounds like a great trip Fife. Yes I like Florida but not so much in the summer.

I will end with a word of warning, If you have been exposed working in the woods to poison Oak, Ivy or Sumac and don't know it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Don't take a leak in the woods. Crying The results are not fun!!!!!!!  Bang HeadBang Head Nuf said?

Hello there,

quick check in from da beach, the rest of the gang is still sleep'n. Nice day Monday but didn't do much. Recouping from the trip and Airshow. Yesterday was a washout. Did venture to Seaside Hobbies. Bought 2 packs of RR signals as nd signs. I was the only one in the store And had a nice bull session with the owner.  Learned he was born in  Altoona moving to DE as a kid when his Dad got a job with Dupont After being laid off by the RR.

I hear people stirring. Best see what theday will bring.

Prayers for those in need

Good Morning -

Fife - Yup - been there MANY times --- lol - glad you had a nice visit!!

The Gulf side is much nicer than the Ocean side in my opinion.

Chief - Continued Prayers for your treatments

Banks - Enjoy your vacation!!

Rained for most of the afternoon and into the early evening - so we got our fill of precipitation for the week

Sunny right now - 70s and low humidity for the next 2 days - Friday all the SUMMER weather comes back - I'm good with that

Off to softball this afternoon - I should be there in plenty of time with these new hours.  Need to get that stuff together for later, did all my laundry yesterday.

The kids have a visitor at the house, so I haven't been up in the train attic - sadly with Carlisle coming up, I may not get up there until after that - I still have to replace Jenni's fuel tank and the upper door hinge pins on her Charger.....so that is on the agenda for this weekend.

Off to work - 40 minutes in and I'm lollygagging......lol

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Morning. 76 and sunny. LOW humidity. Was dragging this AM. Feeling really bad. Dogs begging to go out. Drag my hose to the door and let them out.  Sat in the chair on the porch [hose just made it]. Wow, battery recharged. Use to see photos of the TB hospitals in NC. Patients outside in the sun. Sure someone here can tell more about the sun's healing.

Here street takeovers have become popular with kids where a bunch gather at a intersection and they spin donuts with their cars. Very dangerious, your really sort of out of control. A car plowed into a restraunt near me and did a lot of damage.

Do kids do this in your area?

Jumping intersections was a fad here several years ago. Several crashes and a couple of fatalities. Thankfully not any of the innocents.

The big thing here is to get like escalades and other vehicles like that and jack up the front of the car to where it's about 2-3 feet higher than the rear. I understand N.C. has passed a law limiting the hieght difference to 4"

Mornin' boys. Sunny and 50 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. We Are headed to the local flower mart today, to beef up the planters. Wifey and I went to the county fair (nearby Ft. Ashby), to take in the RODEO. Bulls won...

Morning folks!

Summertime - nice and toasty out! Only 164 today!

Dennis - nearly every interection in the Dallas area is tagged with donuts. Idiots - what great adults/contributors to society they will make - right?

Banks - glad the beach trip is going well!

DJ - sorry - hope the 'tude improves soon. Have fun with the 'project'! That should help.

Chief - take it easy - radiation, etc., really takes it out of you. Lung damage from the pnemonia is tough.

Anj - I sure miss the days of summer softball. When I was younger we had a local park where all games were pickup. I was no good but my buddies let me on the field anyway. Beers at the local watering hole afterwards were always good!

Happy Pre Friday -

Great day yesterday after the sun came out - 70s with very low hoomidity -

1 for 3 yesterday - popped a calf muscle after getting out of the batters box.  yep I was out for the rest of the game, which we lost 17-24.

Nurse Jenni on the job, on Tylenol and a compression sock and ice.  3 week rehab?  We'll see.....

Roy - It's what I look forward to during the Summer, with car shows and cruises

Rest up and don't push it, CHIEF!!!!

Same weather today -

Off to work -

73 and sunny. Breezy. Just came in from sitting on the porch. Got a little sun time. Not do as good as earlier yesterday. Didn't sleep last night. Sweating and yet chilling.

Up the street to a Duke facility for blood draw. Haircut near there. Month past due.

Radiation before the Pres arrives in town.

Been lying down for first time. Seems OK.

Enjoy your day.

Mornin' boys and girls.  Sunny and 58 this AM, in the Potomac Highlands.  Will clean and mow yard in preparation of Oldest Princess and Curly-Top visit this weekend.  I will be on the train all day tomorrow, so my evening will probably be spent with the boy in the train room. Grandma already scooped up all of her nicky-nacks from the main room.

KRM - Wasn't able to view, but I'm sure it was good.

Tks, all, for the comments on the Grand-daughter, darn if I can figure out how to post that video???

I got to go to my Brother's wedding tomorrow,,,, why would anyone get married at 70??? Guess to make his mistress of the last 15+ years feel better about herself???? Or maybe him about himself? Should be interesting. He got divorced after 40 years back in 2016. One would think they would of had it figured out by then?? Tongue Tied Anyway his new squeeze has not been much of a surprise to most. Bang Head

We got a much needed 1.5" of rain last night, I will take it.  I saw three Bucks in felt walk past the shed today. Surprised the racks are so big already?? Busy day with the wildlife here, I saw 6 deere and 5 turkeys today. Yes

And on to the next thing!

Good morning all!

Sunny and warmer - will hit 188 today Mischief

Taking it easy today. Had a bad sleep last night - side effects, ugh. Plan to head to Lowes and maybe HD today - we need a couple of more comfortable deck chairs to replace some older ones. Looked on-line at the fake wicker stuff that we like and have currently. The problem is the current style seems to be high squared off armrests and we want the low curved top. Have not found a combination of search terms to just bring up what we want - so off to look at stuff.

Kev - posting here, particularly videos, is just painful. Videos can be hit or miss. Today - does not work, tomorrow or next day, it works. Reason why I just do not try anymore.

No chemo until July 8. Had lost 28 lbs. since going to hospital. Got to get weigh back on. Also, new meds to sleep and get apatite back.

Doing a lot better today. Eating better.

Back in office paying bills.

Cutting back on supplemental O2. That is going well.

Have a good one.

Evenin' boys and girls. Two long days on the train, and my tootsies are tired. I've been qualified as a conductor again, and I'll be getting all pretty for next Saturday. I really like the people I work for, and work with. The downside is lack of time with family on the weekend.

Hello there, should be sleeping but wide awake.

Prayers needed for a young man injured at the Hillclimb today. First time in 45+ years I saw a serious injury on the hill.

Chief... Prayers continue.

Roy......sounds like quite a show

Back from da beach yesterday. Uneventful except for traffic delays in unusual places for no obvious reasons. The week finished slow. Sunny but almost cool enough for a jacket. Did make a visit to TOY TOWN ANTIQUES. Left with only a Lionel HO exploding boxcar.

Daughter & family surprised us showing up Thursday PM. Was great to have the whole clan under one roof. She moved to a motel for 2 more nights after we left. Material delays gave SIL a chance to get away.

Lightning storm Friday night before we left smoked the fence charger despite a lightning arrestor. Replacing it was one of son's projects Saturday before his family joined us Sunday.

Last evening found the lightning blew several fuses in both garages, tripped a couple breakers on the house too. Thankfully so far no other damage. Knock on wood.

Tomorrow has been designated a recuperation day.

Prayers for those in need

Hello there,

where is everyone?

Thanks for your Prayers Quick update on the injured rider. No internal injuries as feared. Both bones broken below the knee , broken shoulder and probable concussion . He spun of the side of the hill, through the woods and off a steep embankment .  Not sure how he wasn't stopped by trees or brush before getting to the embankment.

Best get to sleep.

Prayers for those in need

Morning all.  Been a couple of weeks.

I see Chief is feeling better. Yes  Keep getting better!

As most of you, the mercury has been in the upper part of the thermometer.  Getting into the mid 90s today it sounds like.  Got in the pool yesterday and it was 86, YUK.

Looking at the next few years it looks like we'll have a lot of work.  Unless the tick me off or me them I should retire here.  I'll be here 35 years next January.

Everyone stay cool and safe!

WOW the weather is nuts, 9 weeks of toast and now 6.25" of rain in four days. Water everywhere. Storm Storm Storm

Other than that been just watching the creek rise and the Turkeys get soaked.

Glad your getting back to eating Chief. That should help you out a lot.

Roy,"Been busy with some rotted wood replacement projects." Yeah been there and done that! Yes

Banks, glad the boy will recover. Sounds like it could of been worse.

(Some-Day-Maybe) SIL has to get knee surgery next week. He blew it out bad.  They wanted to do it tomorrow but he is afraid of the Vaccine so till he can prove he is clean from COVID they said nope. I would rather have the shot than that thing stuck up my nose to my brain to get checked. Laugh

Banks
where is everyone?

Well in our case we're back from NJ and the final push to clean out BIL's apartment, he's gone into extended care and sadly won't be coming out.

The N Gauge collection, sold.

Stamp collection, sold.

Coin collection, sold.

Milk bottle collection, sold.

The Department 56 collection, sold.

Tool collection, given away to folks in the apartment complex.

The book collection, disposed of.  As a bibliophile I HATED tossing much of the collection (Accumulation?) in the dumpsters but they were all titles that NO-ONE besides himself would care about, not worth even trying to sell them.  We kept a handful of the better ones.

His paperwork dating back over 40 (50?) years that no-one cares about tossed as well.  Why in the name of all that's holy did he keep this stuff?

Kitchen stuff's gone to Goodwill.

The family photo collection we've kept for further perusal and editing, there's probably going to be a lot of "Who IS that?" in the offing.

It's amazed us all just how much room there was in the apartment once all the accumulation that would have done credit to the Collyer brothers was out of it!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collyer_brothers

On the positive side, Lady Firestorm and I did get to do a bit of a North Jersey diner tour!  We do miss the diners, there's nothing like them in our spot of Virginia.

Let me recommend most highly the Rochelle Park Diner in Rochelle Park NJ, little changed from the 1950's, and the Empress Diner in Fair Lawn NJ, a newer place and with great food AND if you're lucky you might see a classic car drive-in in the parking lot!

Made it home Sunday afternoon after a three hour battle down I-95 in VA from Prince William County to Hanover County where we bailed off the highway and took the backroads home.  WHERE did all those people come from?  We had no problems driving back from NJ until we hit VA.  VA used to be the easiest part of the trip!  "It waaas, but not any morrrrre..."

https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/17eb8b61-ed09-43ce-b02f-4bd8125eab06

We did have a nice visit with SIL and her family in PA, and I even got to visit Henning's Trains in Lansdale!  Picked up a Lionel Anheuser-Busch billboard car and a used MTH transformer for $25.  I can always use another transformer, especially when it's that reasonable.  If I'm lucky I'll be back there Thanksgiving time.

Glad to be home, let me tell 'ya!

Best wishes to all!

Evenin' boys. Just hit 101 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. FifeMax caught just three frisbees before saying "No mas." Stopped by local tux retailer to order black vest for Conductor Fife. Received nice "Thank you" card from Age of Steam Roundhouse (where Buckeye volunteers).

Chief - We've got some local ice cream shops that could fatten you up! Watch cooking shows, might give you more appetite as well.

Woah, I wish I had known you were gonna be up here! Diners are a unique staple of NJ, something that is sadly missed in other parts of the country.

Now the most important question is: Taylor Ham or Pork Roll?

Well the next time, whenever that is, I'll be sure to let you know we're coming!

"Taylor Ham or Pork Roll?"  I have a confession to make, when we were growing up in North Jersey, Paramus to be specific, mid-Fifties to mid-Seventies, neither Lady Firestorm or myself ever heard of either Taylor Ham or Pork Roll!  It just wasn't served in either of our houses, although Canadian bacon was in Lady F's.

I don't remember seeing either in Shop-Rite, Food Fair, Pathmark, A&P, Grand Union, or anywhere.  In fact, I never heard of it until I saw it mentioned in "Weird New Jersey" magazine several years ago.  Must have been a South Jersey thing that eventually broke the boundaries and migrated north.

By the way, a local supermarket here in VA started carrying it a few years ago so I tried it.  (Taylor Ham.)  Not bad, not bad at all!

Thanks Becky!

You know, I was going to start a thread on this particular topic, but decided not to.  Anyway, here's the lesson:

While the BIL is still very much alive although in poor health, he could have seen this coming and prepared for it. He had plenty of time.  Call it a state of denial, call it a hoarder mentality where he just couldn't let anything go, call it what you like, but the cold fact of the matter is all  of us are going to get to that point sooner or later.

So to all, be realistic.  Realize the time's going to come when your stuff's going to have to go.  Don't hold onto it until the bitter end and leave your families with a mess to clean up. Unload while YOU are still capable.  YOU know what you paid for it.  YOU should have an idea what you can get for it. YOU are the expert others will wish they were. And while BIL is loved by his siblings who are dreading the day when "THE phone call" comes you should have heard the way he was cursed by those siblings who had to deal with the carnage.

Of course, none of this applies to those struck down suddenly, that could happen to anyone.

Food for thought, for what it's worth.

Good Morning -

Glad to see the Chief improving!!

Kev - I couldn't see the video, but congas to your grand-daughter

Fife - Glad you found a "home" on the Eagle......sooner or later, I'm gonna make good on that visit threat----especially since Jenni loves the train rides - We have a 7 Aug date with the 611 in Strasberg....

Doug - I'm SURE there is no restriction to come to Jersey, since Nesome's illegitimate brother runs the state.....

Becky - I can only imagine...I'm confident you get back better than ever, you are too talented.  The opportunity will arise....

Firelock - Sorry about your BIL - nice you had time to "visit" us here in the Socialist Republic of New Jersey. Diner food is definetly a thing, and Pork Roll is the best....IF you are here for Turkey Day - may I remind you that the Edison Train Show is Sunday of that weekend.  The future Mrs. and I always attend on Sunday.  So, if we can get Spanky out of Wayne.....We don't always buy, but browsing is free, and you never know whats for sale.

Summer is in full swing here, 90+ until Saturday

On Sunday a failed attempt to do the door hinges on Jenni's Charger was an ultimate fail - She called in reinforcements to get the door back on - yeah, new hinges will be purchased in Carlisle next weekend.

Was at a viewing for a local past chief and legend/mentor last Friday and going to a viewing tonight for a line of duty death for local firefighter.  It sucks, but it's only right to honor those that volunteer for firefighter.

Off to see the wizard - or work.....

I'm here. 90 degrees and sunny.

A little slower this AM. Climbing back up though. Meds help.

Get my shower and I will feel a lot better. Going without supplemental O2 a lot and blood ox staying up. Would not go outside today.

Probably not make it back to the PC tonight.  Someone start a new Pot.

Have a good one.

Hot, Humid and wet is the news here. Storm

Was thinking of going north for the week but had a problem. Well I did it,, broke the Gator yesterday. Had a full bed of CA-6 gravel in it and went to set the parking break and Snapped the parking brake cable. Crap!  Looking on line I am not the first to have that happen.

When it comes to Green,,,,,, Get ready to Pay! $110.00 for a $25.00 cable and $175.00 to install it, and they got you by the short hairs because they don't publish how to make the needed adjustments unless you want to pay $161.00 for the repair book!!!. Worse part they know the cable is junk! They have replaced the old part number with a new one. That tells me after my years in engineering at Cat they had to flush the system of the bad ones. Hope this one is better. The world of today. WOW. Hard to face the sticker shock after fixing almost anything that has broken all my life but that is how these places want it. I called three dealers and got three prices????? One place said they could not work on it for six weeks??? So I put it on the trailer and drove it 35 miles to Dwight Il. to get it by next week and the price I posted. Angry   SoapBox

All of you have a great holiday.  Yes

For you Train guys in and around NJ, if you are a Blue Comet fan, this is the place to go:

https://www.clintonstationdiner.com

This used to be the Golden Coach (The Roach Coach, lol) I worked there in High School, food is tremendous and plentiful:

There are a few other but those are still classic diners we go to.

The Princeton Diner on US 1 is very good as well.

Oh 'Devil, the menus at those diners look so goooood!

I don't know what everyone's standards are, but when we go to a diner Lady Firestorm judges it by how good the hot turkey sandwich is and I judge it by how good the burgers are.  Our late friend Charlie who accompanied us on a lot of diner visits used to judge them by either the pork roast or the meat loaf.

And we all agreed if it's got a "Super Lumberjack" selection on the breakfast menu it's a good place to go!

By the way, any of you ever hear of John Baeder, the photo-realist painter who specializes in subjects like diners?  Here's his website, check under "Oil" and "Watercolor" and prepare to be amazed.  Hey, maybe you'll even recognize a few places!

pennytrains

My heart's with you Wayne.  They're coming to set up my estate sale on Thursday and I've been watching as some of the trains I sold go on Ebay.  Saying "It's tough" is inadequate.

I'm hip.  That's why we did garage sales for six years.  We decided it was far better to downsize on our own terms than let "the cleaner uppers" just throw everything away or sell it for pennies on the dollar.  Sure, we knew we'd never get back what we paid for the stuff.  But we still made almost $6,000 just sitting on our butts on summer Saturdays.

Oh, and the siblings?  I've got that too.  What is it they say about opinions?  Wink

Mornin' boys. Mornin' Becky. Rain and 68 along the Allegany front-range. Been like an Eagle lately; Take It Easy. Did pay a visit with my neighbor, John. He is still healing from his surgery, but will be in cancer treatment in a couple weeks. May ride up the mountain to visit with Dad later.

Afternoon all!

Nice work by LAPD and LAFD to blow up a semi, a few cars, and a couple of blocks of windows attempting to detonate illegal fireworks in a bomb chamber in the middle of a suburban street. 16 or 17 people injured. Youtube it - quite amazing lack of judgement. Surprised it did not make local or national news last night.

Ah, NJ style (and PA and NY) diners. What sets them apart is the food is prepared fresh and to order. Served hot and reasonably priced for the quantity one receives. None of this pre-prepped garbage one sees in all the chain restaurants now, inc high end restaurants.

Regards, Roy
