74 and sunny.  Agenda today is water.  Chances of rain look good for Thursday and Friday.  Tomatoes turning ripe.

Didn't sleep well.  Think a shave and shower will help.

Thanks for the prayers.

Enjoy the day.

Sunny and 89

I sleep 9 hours all the time, seem to need it.

Going to a senors group at church, Olive Garden on the way home for all you can eat soup and salad. Then a few groceries. Experience has taught me that will be the day. I take it plenty easy in retirement.

"Eggs, ham, sausage, pancakes and waffles."

Sounds like a "Super Lumberjack" breakfast selection at any number of Jersey diners!  (And if it's a REAL Jersey diner they serve breakfast 24 hours a day.)

Jeez, NOW I'm hungry, and the nearest Jersey diner is 350 miles away!

Morning all.

Not much to report.  The long weekend was a nice break but without dad it was less than perfect.  Always keep in my mind the reason for the weekend.

Finally took the cover off the pool last night as they are calling for rain the next 2 days and then 80s+ over the weekend.  As usual crystal clear water.  I don't know what I do to deserve it but the pool gods are good to me.

Used to eat a lot at the Meadowland's Diner right outside the sports complex in East Rutherford.  Always a decent meal.  I can still remember they wouldn't call Boston Cream Pie, Boston Cream pie.  Something to do with the Patriots.  LOL!

Here is a video from this weekend's train run.  Enjoy and stay safe.

Morning. 73 and cloudy. Dogs and I chased a batch of squirrels out of the bird feeders. Coffee and Thick Egos. Now relax.

Good news. Slept 9 hours. New record. Slept 6 1/2 hours without waking. Then right back to sleep.

Speak to the graduating class of the 8th graders at Rolesville Charter Academy at 6.

Should start having rain tonight. Watered yesterday so all is fine. Side dressed all my veggie plants before watering.

Have a good one.

In that vein I thought about linking the Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Vader video, but it's not exactly "family friendly," if you get my drift.

Yeah, I get it, "escapee" may be closer to the mark than "exile."  Like you, we got to the point where endurance ceased to be a virtue.

Mornin' boys and girls. Damp and 65 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Ran trains last night for FifeMax during a brief Lightning. No pile-ups, but the main had an conductivity "hiccup" that I'm gonna have to remedy.

Having breakfast with engineer buddy this morning. Not much planned after that.

Yesterday BIG train with Moorefield grade-schoolers. Didn't lose anybody. Yes

NRHS Chapter museum has a N-scale display layout that doesn't run, so maybe I'll try to fix that this week.

Got a birthday present from Buckeye! Thanks!

My neighbor took a turn for the worse. Hoping he can at least return home...Sigh

75 and cloudy. 1.27 inches of rain total.

Tomorrow is National Donut Day. With shot card, get 2 [instead of 1] free donuts at Krispy Kreme.

Now do some errands with Wifey driving.

Radiation at 5.

Good Evening -- - -

Working late on Dispatch - queue has cleared up so I have a few -

Busy last night - at 6, arrived for softball game where I went 2 for 2 with an RBI, played first and catcher - alternating.

Finished up in time for Mercer County Fireman's Association Trustees meeting at 730, 745, the Exempt Association Meeting and then full County Association Meeting at 8.

Done at 930, ran over to my house for a quick measurement and spoke to my future SIL.  Off to the Firehouse to fill out a service award form so all attendees would get credit for the meeting(s)

So, I'm a bit sore and tired.  Obviously, I'm skipping the drill tonight.

Continued Prayers for Chief, Doug and all in need

Say, there are at least 3 diners within 1.5 miles of here ---

I move to FLA USA in 1992 and moved BACK to NJ USA in 2010 -say what you want - there is nothing like Jersey - if we could remove the corrupt politicians and lower the taxes ---- lol

Diner Food is THE Bomb diggity - Engagement Partyt of the Proncess and her betrothed on Saturday  - I'll see my Ex then, she's coming up - this could be exciting....lol....

My fiancee is going to meet her, I'm ducking out if there is fireworks, lol!!!

OK back to work, another 35 minutes or so.

Ah, Entenmann's!  We got lucky, they followed us down here.  Not everything in the product line though, I love the "Apple Puffs" but can only get them when I'm up north.

(Why they call them "Apple Puffs" beats me, they're so heavy I call 'em "Apple Bombs,"  but man are they good!  Nuke 'em for about 30 seconds in the microwave for a hot treat that's great with a cup of coffee!

One other tasty treat thing that I can only get up north is Drake's "Funny Bones."  Kind of like a "Twinkie" but made of devil's food with a chocolate coating and a peanut butter filling.  I loved 'em when I was a kid!  I remember the taste being a bit more gutsy when I was a kid but I have to be fair, my taste buds have 50+ years of wear on them now since the last time I had 'em.

It still ticks me off that they discontinued that Yummy Coffee Cake with all that streussel topping and powdered sugar. They replaced them, out here at least, with those crappy little individualy packaged ones. Ick!

Howdy all!

Spent Memorial Day Weekend down in Virginia, working on the the Maw-In-Law's house in anticipation of him living there when he goes to school this fall. We drove down Thursday after Tyler finished school, got in about 11:40, then drove back Tuesday afternoon. The weather really cooperated, because if it hadn't stayed cool we probably would have headed back on Saturday. And that is due to.........the HVAC system being shot. Guy came over Friday morning to recharge it, well, that didn't even happen as we couldn't get the damn thing to come on. The compressor kept shorting out the breaker. It's a 1996 unit, so, well, it's done. He got back to Linda's mom with the replacement cost, so that's on the horizon.

Busy time in VA. After we got that done on Friday, took Tyler over to a park where one of his friends was throwing a birthday party. He got to reconnect with 5 people he went to school with down there, which is great. Saturday, Sunday and Monday we worked on the house - finished up the front door we installed the last time, insulated around it and installed the interior molding. Trimmed the front bushes which were badly overgrown, probably hadn't been trimmed in 2-3 years. Ripped out a ton of stuff growing into them - I HATE Virginia Creeper.

Sunday we were in the backyard, and we both noticed a squirrel on the roof. Uh-oh! So Monday got out the ladder, worked on the side of the house to trim all the tree branches which were next to or overhanging the house. Then moved to the front, got on the roof, and trimmed more branches I couldn't reach from the ladder. Also ended up cleaning out a few gutters that were clogged.

One good thing came out of this. Back in 2010 I built a two level table for our Halloween display which included Department 56 pieces along with 2 running Halloween trains. I was able to deconstruct it and bring it up here in the car. We used it for 2 years, 2010 and 2011, so it will be nice to set it up again this fall.

Wow, I found the original thread I made here when I was building it: we only used it for 1 year, 2011, as we went back to NJ in Sept. 2012 for Tyler's treatment. I can't seem to find the original images I did for the project, and I don't seem to have any pictures of the table in use. Damn!

Need some help with benchwork for a small table.

One of the best things I love about NJ are the diners. There are as ubiquitous here as churches are down south. That and the pizza. And the Taylor Ham, egg and cheese sandwiches.
