Mornin' boys.  Sunny and a breezy 39 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  When every one else was celebrating the New Year's, yours truly was performing a class 3 brake test, in cold snowy weather.  Didn't walk into my house until 0230 hrs.  Just another day.  But, it was the last trip for 3 weeks.  Gonna take several days to just try and get healthy.  Getting back on keto too.

Good evening all,

Good weather today.  Went searching in the attic for train stuff and found lots.  Nothing implemented yet, but have material for lots of projects now.  Watched "The Two Popes" on Netflix tonight.  Even if you are not Catholic, it is still a good show.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello there,

hope all had a Happy New Year. Spent last evening at daughters place.

Great room

Daughters new great room with about 3/4 of the mounts installed, a few are grandson's.  I was standing in the kitchen area.

Was home by 10. Mrs and I went to 9am Mass today, watched the parade, took my Tahoe to AAMCO to have the transmixer rebuilt, a quick visit with mom then home. The whole clan was here for pork & sauerkraut this evenin and were all gone by 7.

lights

Farm house and town house lights. probably the last year for the trees, they've got a hard to treat fungus that will probably kill them.

santa

While on pictures...all three granddaughers a couple weeks ago.

Collards???? Let me check my list.  That's what I thought the Chief is trying to do me in again.Hmm Collards can cause kidney stones. Crying

Going to try to work on the layout today. I need to purchase more screws to connect the joists to the L-girders.

Banks...Great photos.

Chilly here on the North Bluff as well Fife, but full sun helps.

Taking wife tp PT at 10:30 then no plans.

Dennis, that is weird that the plates stay with the car when you sell it. Seems it leaves you open for all kinds of issues.

Nice pictures Banks, The great room freaked wifey out... Laugh She won't let me have one deer head. SIL wants to give us that 12 point he got here last year but she is having no part of it. Tongue Tied

Re-uped my CTT seeing as thet dropped the price an extra $10.00 to get me back.

Get to have my throat opened up some more tomorrow with that ballon thingy. It sure helped the last time so this time should get it back to the right size. It was so small the last time they did it they said I would need a secont shot at it to get to size without tearing it open. He said it should be around 22mm and it was at 10mm so they went to 15mm last time and will do the rest tomorrow.

We have a 5" lift mattress wedge coming today to help with my Gerd. Hope it helps.

Best get!

Morning.  52 and going to mid 60's.  70 tomorrow with some showers later.

Dennis, agree with KEV.  No transfer means you still own vehicle.  Hope you have bill of sale to prove you sold.

Fifey, warm up from that day in the cold.

Banks, Wifey will not let me have mounts.  Will put antlers in Train Box.

Country ham biscuits, blackeye peas and turnip greens [no collards yesterday].

Buckeye, Knob Creek is better [get the stronger version 120 proof].

Anyone heard from Brent?

Mike, you still chasing that round ball?

Later.

Mornin' boys.  Wet and 42 along the Alleghanie front range.  Took Christmas down inside and out yesterday.  Tree still up, as well as North Pole, and I'm being told that's being put away this weekend.

After a nice fried chicken dinner, spent the evening in the train room.  I've been running a mish-mash of equipment this past month, so it was nice to return the "old tyme" choo-choos to the 4 lines.  Youngest Princess is supposed to finish painting my canal before she heads back to college.

Mornin' boys.  Foggy and forties along the Patterson Creek cut-off.

Took Wifey and youngest princess to Lowe's yesterday.  They are having a 40% off/free delivery appliance sale.  New GE fridge and dishwasher will be headed to Fifedom.  Wifey happy.  Went to Applebee's to celebrate.

Perhaps I can get the youngest to help me set up a Shutterfly account today.  Would like to fire up Sunday Photo Fun again.

Mornin' boys.  Thin layer of Snohizo along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Actually fired up the pellet stove to take the chill off.  Will have Christmas tree/layout totally stored away by noon.  Trying to convince Wifey we need another store room shelf unit, just for the Dept 56 items.  Stuffing those things back in their tight packaging is murder!

Good evening all,

Wow, that is quite the story, Kevin.  Evidently you are well enough to be home.  Will be interested in the details.  Got most of the Christmas stuff put away.   Did a 4 mile walk this afternoon at a 16 minute pace.  Had to jog a bit to do that.  Weather nicer today but did the walk inside.  I hope everyone has a good day.

KEV, stop trying to eat chicken bones.  Don't even give them to dogs.  Jokes aside.  Glad you are OK.

Had over 50 people here yesterday afternoon for lady announcing her running for State Senate.  Lots of "politicos" including US Congressman.

That was after driving across county to BIL's Dad's visitation.  Rush Rush.

Service CRV this AM.  County Commissioners this evening.

V8Vega

I also got the Real ID so now I can fly when it's required next Oct. Whole thing took 3 hours, mostly the real ID, mostly waiting.

That is something I don't need to get, thank goodness. As being classified as retired Military and having a military ID and wife having the one for spouse we do not need to get one as it acts as real ID for us. ( yes I've checked into it about three times because of the wife worrying about it, then the other night the news reported that and now she finally believes it, just love it when I tell her something I know but she needs more proof.

Well layout is coming along, got first loop down, but need to replace two sections of track because my engines for some reason are having sparks at the pick-up and thats not good for engines with command in them. theres only two sections that do that and of coarse one is at the left side and the other is in the back section of the layout.

Then onto wiring the layout the rest of the way. I have like two drops done but have like 6 others that need to be conected to the power strip.

Great news Roy!!! I hear you Roy on that stress thing. The month leading up to Sandra's hip replacement on 12-4 was very hard on us both. There was so much to do and worry.

Good deal Dennis. I don't need a real ID, we have passports.

Got the new motor for the 2050 GP20 but no time yet to hook it up to see if it fixes the darn thing.

 More about what happened Friday:

Well caught up here so, for those who want to know. To make it short as I can the stupid doctor punctured my esophagus. He used a solid flexible expander (kind of a flexible rod with a tapered end) to open my throat instead of the balloon because my throat was restricted all the way down and had a worse restriction at the bottom by the gut. When he went to remove it it snagged the tight area and produced the tear or pin hole. So I guess when I heal up I should be better. On soft food for a few days to make sure it heals up. I went without water or solid food for 48 hours in the hospital and they said try not to swallow. WTH. So I laid in bed for two days with just an IV while my body ate it's self till I finally got clear liquid Saterday night then soft food Sunday morning. I went about 60 hours without food or water because I had to fast for the thing in the first place.

I was lucky, it only went through the first and maybe second layers of the ones you have in your esophagus and was just a small tear. If it had gone through all of them it would have entered my lung and I would of had to go to Chicago for a major operation so I dodged the bullet I guess? At first he told Sandra I would be going to Northwestern University and boy oh boy did she freak out. Then he came in and told me that I had to get two CT scans to check for leakage about four blocks away at Morris hospital. One without the fluid and the secone one with the fluid, and when they did that it was leaking but after talking to the team at Northwestern University they decided to leave me at Morris and see it it could seal up overnight. Guess it did?

Well that is the long and short of it.
Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers.

Yowzers, KRM! Surprise  I'm leaving my tonsils in now.  Glad you're ok.  Same goes for Roy's Mrs.  And Buckeye.  And DJSpanky.  And Dougnotta.  And anyone else on the mend.

Waiting for the impending Snohizo.  Area schools closed in advance.  Gonna hook some lights up in my train room today.  I'm trying yellow tinted C7 bulbs in my structures, to give more of a soft, gas lamp glow, instead of the harsh, bright white ones.  Also need to work on a Marx 74 semaphore.

Good morning guys!

Feeling much better today and filling up my empty guts. Laugh

I have been prepping the shed for a door opener I did not get for Christmas from the kids for the Gator side over the last month. Tongue Tied Elect, mounting brackets etc.
Well yesterday while Sandra was in PT I went and got the opener at Menards with the 11% off. So my project yesterday afternoon was install it. Boy does that make life better. Yes

Todays plan is work on that GP20 # 2050.

Wow Kevin! I'm glad you are heading the right way in your recovery.  I do not see sword swalling as a future career choice for you.

And Kevin, congratulations on fixing the LC plus. I followed you posts with GR John and it makes so much sense. There used to be a gentleman name Boxcar Bill who sold and installed ERR products. He told me the first thing you need to do with electronics is to use a magnify glass and look for broken solder, pieces, etc. He found a broken connection on one of my ERR boards. Gave me a new board.

Just had my pacemaker check up. Doing good. No problems. I don't take as much sleep as previous.Zzz

Hey, good afternoon....

Back at it.  I cruised through the forum, not posting.  The last of the family leaves today, so Mom will not have the groups that have been running in and out of the house for the better part of 2 months.  Mom said it best, sometimes it's just too quiet.

Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers for my Dad and the family. Mom says this will be an adjustment.

Obviously not much on the train side of things.

Kev - Glad you are better
Roy - Very glad that the Mrs. is recooping ----

I'll check back when I can.  Just trying to get through the 300 emails and reviews I need to check over and read.  Whoo boy....it's gonna be a long 4 days.....lol!!

Mornin' boys.  32 and snowing again, along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  We received 4 inches over 6 jours yesterday.  The girls and I shovelled the driveway, walks, and deck clear.  They made 2 small snowmen.  Wifey makes quite the snow bunny when she goes outside.  She's fun to watch.

Happy to report that my Cumberland town is all lit up.  It took several hours, and a half dozen disc cuts, to wind the light strings under 3 levels of real estate.  I'm very satisfied with the results.  The yellow tinted C7 lights look great, and no fear of Moth Man being lured to town.

So true SJ, Now I know why they were asking for copies of our Power of Attorney when she went in for the hip replacement and I went into the hospital. Laugh So this morning I went to the safe box at the bank and made copies so we will have them here at the house if needed. Tongue Tied

Cold start today 18 and won't hit 30. Then rain or snow through the weekend. Not a lot else going on today other than letting wifey drive herself to PT so I can stay home.

Morning/afternoon folks!

The MS is definitely getting out today. Just waiting on the surgeon to get out of a surgery to sign final papers and prescriptions. Still 2 weeks of recovery but we will be much more comfortable at the house.

Kev - ouch! Glad you are ok!

Mornin' boys.  19 degrees outside; pellet stove on inside.  Youngest Princess has a doctor visit later on.

She finished painting my canal yesterday, while I tried to resurrect a Marx 74 semaphore.  I can get it going, but it overheats (at 11 volts), and I can smell the plastic melting.  I have another Marx semaphore, and it is the older version with the round, metal base.  It works like a champ.  Need to find some more of the semaphores with the metal base, me thinks.  Before I watched the Jeopardy champs, brushed a layer of gloss medium over the newly painted waterways.

Morning,

A rain filled day is what we will have on the North Bluff.

Not a lot else going on yesterday other than letting wifey drive herself to PT so I could stay home and work on the train layout some. I had to place a new building on it I got for Christmas. Still need to figure away to transition away the base edge but that will come. Any ideas??
Here it is.

Sunny 42 but windy.  Wind chill is cold.

Good photo KEV.

Anyone into hunting and guns, go to Dick's Sporting Goods.  Per the folks at one Dick's here, getting out of the hunting gear and guns.  15% off and now another 25% off.  Had big gift card.  Was going to buy another gun.  None I really wanted.  Spent it on other items.  Have strong dislike for Dick's.

Have a great day.

KRM - That's easy.  More debris and clutter from the fire scene.  Real fire scenes aren't that neat.  Unless that roof fell into the structure, it would have been pulled to the side and hosed off, as the FD looks for hot spots.  Rich could probably coach you up on more details.

Thanks Fife, a lot of good ideas there. Yeah that building has lit red ambers but they look stupid with plush green trees next to it. So I think I will place some gravel and other burnt trash around it as if time has passed since the fire.

Fife and Kev - yeah, fire scenes are definitly messy......like the mini van fire I was at on Tuesday....lol, lots of, um, "burnt offerings..." you may want to have pools of water nearby as well as some debris like the burned trusses (popsickle sticks burned) and cut up some small pieces of shingle. Stuff like that....

From the notes I got from the Past President of the association, I ran the meeting like a champ, last night...almost looked like I knew what I was doing....lol.

Was up early this morning for Doc appointment then ran to work.  Of course the sky was falling, kinda glad I went in, was going to work from home, but thought better of it.

Tonight is regular meeting night, battle of the bylaws will start if the president of the dept has a big set of.....you know.....

Mom is doing well, so far, she is running a funeral today and I will be back home at 6 to change and do the meeting by 7.  Can't stop Mom, there is no doubt.

Jenni and I are staying in the house, just so Mom knows we are there, we are NOT babysitting her, just making sure there are bodies in the house to keep her company.

Let me see what other trouble I can find....

Thanks guys, Well here is what I did. I have a box of stir sticks I got years ago to build othe stuff for the layout. I like them because they are 7.5" long and thinner than popsickle sticks. Cut the ends to square them then broke them up, put them in a old cast iron skillet and lit them up 8 or 9 times with my torch in the shed to burn them. Then I placed some small rocks, some of my home made ballast, then put the burnt sticks around on top. I think it will work.

Very dark @ 45 degrees. The guessers are forecasting gloom and doom between now and Sunday morning. Up to 3 inches of rain for us, freezing rain north and snow beyond that line. Trains? not much here, I did run a few. The guys are talking York plans but I'm not going.

Hello there,

should be sleeping but wide awake.

Roy....glad to hear the Mrs is doing better.

Kev...OUCH! Glad it wasn't any worse. Many years ago a friend lost a leg because of a botched colonoscopy. A misdiagnosed perforated bowel caused sepsis.

Buckeye. ....sounds like you've got the wiring under control.

Haven't been doing much this week. Dealing with an abscessed tooth. During my 2nd visit to the dentist she surprised me by recommending I get it pulled. No  $$$$ root canal. Comes out on the 18th. Meanwhile antibiotics, Tylenol and soft food.

Picked up the Tahoe from Ammco. Could have saved some  $$ elsewhere but I've got a nationwide warranty.

After  $1,400 in parts reassembly has started on the Massey Ferguson. Gonna take some time. After the rear end is back together it needs split to replace the hydraulic pump then put the top back on.

Best try to sleep.

Morning all.  It is cloudy and 64 degrees.  Real windy.  Rain tonight.  Hope all OK from the messy storms.

Glad to hear Mrs. Roy doing well.

Banks, a lot of mechanical work your way.  May change thermostat in 97 pickup.  Slow opening at first.  Don't want it to stick on me.

Later.

Afternoon folks!

Short sleeves yesterday and snowing here this morning...gotta love nawth Texess!

SJ - burning wood in the big brick lined hole in the living room - Mrs is happy.

Mrs continues to improve and we are confident we are past the critical first days home where post-surgery issues can crop up. Fingers crossed!

Banks - ouch on that tooth - miserable pain...hope you get it fixed soon!

Kev - glad the throat issue did not go any further the wrong way!

Banks I hear ya, They started pumping me full of antibiotics by the IV the second I hit the ER and did not stop till I left the hospital. And I lost count of the blood draws they did.

News sounds good Roy for your wife. Yes Angel

Well so far the big storm has been a wash. They called for 2" to 4" of rain last night and we did not 1.4". Now they have backed way down on the snow for us this afternoon and tonight to less than 2". We will see. Think I won't pull the plow off the Rusty Ranger just yet. Wink

Kev glad all is well. Roy glad your wife is on the mend and that you found a use for that hole in the wall.

Banks good luck with the tooth.  If it doesn't show let em pull it.

I don't know how much but that 800 miles of rain passed right over us. Yep it rained and rained but not too heavy most of the time. Tonight's temp will go down to 20 so lot's of freezing. No rain at the moment, 37 degrees.

S.J.

Update official was 1.9 inches of rain but up to 4 in some areas. Tonights forecast is rain, freezing rain and snow. low of 27.

Mornin' boys.  Breezy and 52 in Wild,Wonderful,WV.  Saw Suzie-Q's birdies laid a big egg against Tennessee.  Me?  Didn't care.  Stopped watching NFL in 2017.  My season starts in 4 weeks at Daytona.  Wifey wanted to take drive up to Deep Creek yesterday, to enjoy the 71 degree weather.  Took princess to our favorite ice cream parlour in McHenry, and watched people tube down the slopes across the way.  Steaks on the grill when we returned home.

Did a little landscaping around Pawpaw tunnel in the train room, and tried to get a couple decent pics for SPF.  Need to find a second hand tripod.

Sir James - I'm glad the weather is getting back to normal in MI.

Morning/afternoon all!

Sunny and some clouds. Might hit 50's today. Did not crack 40 yesterday.

Being the primary here as the Mrs heals. My meals are not as good as hers, but not bad either. We have to keep them simple anyway since her diet is pretty restricted.

The Bullit mustang sold recently for $3.74M. Amazing the owner of 45 years was able to keep it under wraps for so many years until a few years ago. He paid $3500 for it.

69 and partly cloudy.  Went to Church.  After that mistake.  Sook Wifey and SisterIL to lunch.  They wanted to go in a store after that.  Sat in car.  Over an hour later, went in and reminded them how long.  10 minutes later they came out.  Then wanted to stop by a furnitue store.  That lasted 15 minutes.  Got home 30 minutes ago.  Not happy.

Storm, no damge and only a little rain.  Actually , no storm.

Hello there,

record temperatures here Friday and Saturday.  Mrs and I got outside Christmas down and some put away. Inside will stay a couple of weeks. It went kinda slow due to thumping jaw. Littlest granddaughters "helped" us a couple of hours yesterday while son worked on the tractor.

The antibiotics must be working, eating almost normal today using lots of Tylenol. The tooth comes out Wednesday.

Still warm the 1st part of the week. Finish storing Christmas and maybe split a little wood.

Later.

Banks, use to love to work on tractors.  I did change thermostat in 97 Silverado Saturday.  Cost $20 with anitfreeze [which only used a little].  Repair facility wanted $130 with my discount.  Crazy.  Got to go pickup spark plugs for tractor.  Have points and condensor.  Do that this week.

Happy Monday......

Had Friday night dinner with Mom and spent the night there.

Saturday, made breakfast for Jenni and then was off to do other things, Mom did find the title for Dad's car so, Jenni may have a buyer for that.
Saturday afternoon, Mom came over and we got the tree down, took a break while my Princess had made dinner and we had a nice time.  Mom left about 8,
Jenni and I got the tree undecorated and I got it out the door and in the backyard by 930 PM.  My Princess vacuum and got all the needles up and the living room was back to normal.

Next phase is to get the bins in the basement and the Polar Express box back in the attic.

Did not sleep especially well Saturday into Sunday, got up late, did get the attic almost completed and got some things moved off the table.  I did install the Fastrack Crossing Gates on the inner loop.  You can now walk in the attic which is better than it was last week.  Expect more progress this weekend.

Sunday night started laundry while we went to Jenni's car club post Christmas Party which was a really great time.  We were home by 945 and in bed my 1130, as I needed to complete the laundry.

Mom is doing ok, I'll be back at the house the rest of the week, I have a meeting tonight and nothing the rest of the week, I'll be working.....tomorrow, after my doctor's appointment, I'll be working from home.  Jenni's going back to her parents home in Manahawkin for the week.

Prayers for Granny Pat, Brutus, Roy's Mrs. and Banks.

Hello there,

started to post last night but crashed.

Divebardave........Welcome!!!!

Tooth almost normal. Yesterday store outdoor Christmas in the garage, made a run to the Massey Ferguson dealer for two seals we decided to change and split two billets from the trunk of the last ash tree.

They were about 40 inches across. I was wupped by the time we finished, Mrs ran the hydraulic lever on the tractor. Mass, a 9AM appointment and tractor work on today's itinerary.

Best move on.

Morning folks from foggy nawth Texess (or is it me?). May hit 60's today.

Mrs is doing great. One week in, 6 weeks to fully healed. Off the pain meds yesterday. So far so good, some light withdrawal effects. Thanks again for all the positive vibes!

Been working on an ERR conversion to a ROW NYC 0-4-0 that I picked up at York many years ago. Adding the mini-commander and sound card. As they say - 10 lbs into a 5 lb bag...this is only possible as it has an enclosed cab. Got it all working yesterday. Still have lights to add.

Fife - our son heads back to college next week. He still lives at home Sigh

DBDave - welcome!

Happy Tuesday...

Got done with my appointment and was home and at work by 840 this morning.  I have another appointment on Thursday early again.
A TON of issues already plus got locked out of my admin screen.  Finally got that figured out and back at it.

Cloudy and 50% chance of rain, and snowmageddon predicted for Saturday, but that's ok, I'll be at dinner that night.

DiveBarDave - Sounds like you're in the same "business" as I am....Volunteer Fire/Rescue, and full moon nights are a dreaded part of the biz.....welcome to the Pot!!

Drill on Thursday then off to the weekend.

Well tomorrow will be 6 weeks to the day post op for Sandra. Today we went and saw the doctor and he cut her loose. Just two more PTs and it is over!! Amazing that she is almost back to normal from a total hip replacement in just 6 weeks. We are both glad it has gone so well and feel blessed that she has been spared the pain she had been in the last year and a half. And best is I can put her back to work again.  Devil  Smile, Wink & Grin

Good evening all,

Work went better than expected.  Weather was colder than expected and I did not dress warm enough for my walk at noon.  Been cold the rest of the day.  Watched Ken Jennings win the Jeopardy prime time contest.  Pretty exciting matches.  I hope every one has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 45 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  A pretty nice day, so much so that I wheeled the Paradise outside.  Normaly, "Benji" would have been placed downstairs between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but that just shows how up and down temps have been.  Temps are supposed to dive through next week, so my bar area will have a more tropical look by Monday.

Things have slowed way down at the railroad, as to be expected.  No progress to report as well.

Glad Sandra and Mrs. Roy are on the mend. Grey and cold - typical Chicago winter weather. I started my day by forgetting my wallet and mobile at home and had to leave the train station to go get it. Now it feels like I'll be catching up the rest of the day. Ah well. I enjoy reading your project posts, Roy!

Hey Happy Wednesday Afternoon from the South Jersey Command.....

Sun is out and is mild at 47F right now.

Got done at 530, just in time for Jenni to stop by and we had dinner with Mom.  We talked a bit and I wound up in bed by 10.  Jenni made it back to Manahawkin by 11.

Still looking at 1-3 on Saturday.

Pretty sure I'm sleeping in on Saturday then packing and working in the train attic.  Should make it home by 2 PM Sunday for laundry and clean up.
Making moves to get a queen bed to Mom's and removing 1 bed from my room and moving the 2nd one, which is a full to the other room.

That will make room in my 3 season porch as I have 2 queens in there now and the frame is in my closet at my house.  Seeing as Jenni and I will be splitting out time
between the 2 houses, it just makes sense we do this.  It will also mean a massive clean up of my room, which it desperately needs.

Not much else at this point.  Work is crazy, we closed half of out Mobile division and we are concentrating on markets where we are making money.  My job is safe, like many others in the remote/in shop/in Home sector.

Back to work, more snoozy videos to watch, zzzzzzzzz

Morning folks!

Hit 80'yesterday and pouring rain now as it drops into mid-40's this afternoon. Weather pundits said we would have a dry winter (nope)....

Ordered some (100 pics with dropping resistors!) warm white LEDs from Amazon and and got them the next day. How they deliver a $7 item in one day and make money baffles me. Needed this for the 0-4-0 ROW tank loco I am installing ERR mini-commander into. All I had left were the blue-white LEDs, which I used to test the circuitry. Now carefully drilling out by hand the front and rear headlight castings to accommodate the 3mm dia LEDs - originally used 1mm GOW incandescent bulbs.

This project has taken faaaaaarrrrrr longer than I anticipated....but it will be nice when done. installed the boiler/cab shell and tested on a loop of track. Runs and sounds great! May add a second magnet to the chuff cam as one chuff per rev seems a little light, but the drivers are so small that 2 chuffs per rev may be too much?

Regards, Roy

Hi guys,
Winter is setting in, 12 degrees and only heading to mid-20s. Then snow, rain, ice and more snow. That should make for a fun day or two.
Wifey’s last PT is tomorrow and I may have to take her if the weather has already started to get bad. Otherwise she is finished with the hip replacement ordeal. Yes
I have been running trains but not much. Also, I am working on a small project to run an electrical box between the two garage doors in the shed. Don’t know why I did not do that when I built it but I will now. Bang Head It won’t be too hard because all of the electrical is in exposed hard conduit so making changes is a snap. Later today I am going to get some supplies for the project and run to the John Deere dealer and pick up the seat cover I ordered for the Gator 590i.
Prayers for those in need and on the mend. Have a good day!

Hello there,

got my tooth out yesterday. The novocaine lasted about 7 hours.

Been perusing YouTube.  SubBob I watched Petticoat Junction a lot, never saw that episode. Found this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RQTgwwXIpj0

It's a movie of a 50s 2 rail O scale layout. Found lots of other Lionel  videos there like A LIONEL CHRISTMAS . https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7S1k5bK6BBc

Best move on.

Prayers for those in need

Happy Friday and a hearty TGIF from a now cold and windy Southern New Jersey.

Doc appointment was good, worked from the doctor's office, then Panera then home.....new meds seem to be working as I slept through the night without getting up.

Blew off fire drill last night, just way too tired and Jenni came over after work, talked to Mom and then we headed to Panera for soup and sandwiches.  Was in bed by 10 and Jenni was back in Manahawkin by 1130.

Looking forward to hanging at the house tonight, getting some stuff done in the train attic tomorrow. Saturday afternoon, relocating to the Hotel after Jenni gets done at work.  Then party at the firehouse for installation dinner, dancing with the DJ and open bar.

Mom is still doing ok, she gets up in the middle of the night for a potty call and that ruins her sleep pattern, but she is doing well.

Off to work, already jumping on me...lol

Morning folks!

Heavy clouds and light rain continued overnight. More rain for today. Normal 50's day/30's-40's night predicted for next 2 weeks.

Mrs doing well. Cannot drive. I have been the chief cook, bottle washer, grocery getter, bank, post office, chores, errands, person. All good! Big train show this weekend. If my son can be here the Mrs says I might get a hall pass tomorrow!

Banks - glad the tooth issue is over!

Fife - yes you are correct....lol

This is why we don't go there on a regular basis, this was a one off, I wasn't interested in the diner and fast food was out.

I worked from there so I could get a cup o joe and run my meeting while CVS was doing my 'scrip and it was just right on the timing....lol!!

Evening folks!

Nice sunny, cool, day today. Front blew through here and temps near freezing tonight.

The big Plano train show was today (and tomorrow). Mrs gave me a hall pass and son stayed at home. Had a nice time a talked to a lot of folks I had not seen in a while. Lotta layouts. Spoke to two sellers that also buy collections. Looking into selling off some of the train tonnage this year.

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy & 33 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Weather was just enough to keep folks home yesterday.  Nothing to plow.  I've been running around this week preparing PR stuff for the upcoming trip to the state house.  Wifey and I will put together folders this afternoon.  May spend some time in the train room.

Chief - Good looking J.  Did you know, the N&W 611 is actually 9 feet longer than the C&O 2-6-6-2 1309 (due to its tender)?

Roy - You've spent so much time constructing layouts for other entities, did you ever get around to building one at home...?

55 and sunny.  Getting windy as going into the 20's tonight.  High tomorrow to be 41 and windy.  Going east.  Will be really windy as big flat fields.  Will work mainly in the woods so that will help.

Roy, I have found it better to sell locally.  Took 6 TMCC diesels to TCA meet.  $25 for table.  Sold in three hours.  No packing and shipping.  OGR is getting bad as they want you to give it away on there.

Fifey, big engine.  Heavy too.  Runs great backwards and forwards through switches with no problems.  Really good.

Enjoy the week.

Evening folks!

Sunny today. 53 high. Son and I charcoal grilled some tenderloins tonight for the family dinner - um um good!

Chief - no luck at local TCA and other train meets. Not that many heavy duty train folks here. Most of us in north TX know each other. I price very very reasonable and make it clear it is negotiable. Even took stuff to York. Not even an inquiry. No longer waste the time here.

Fife - I used to have an 8x12 ft layout in the bonus room. Took it out when the kids hit Jr. High so they had a tv/game/friends hangout room. That layout is now at TW Trainworx and we expanded it to 8x20 and it it was used for big train shows until we built the Lionel style modular (much easier to transport and set up). We will sell it when ever an interested buyer inquires (we have had some but the layout did not fit the need/space) into a used layout.

Boy has this site been messed up.

Friday into Saturday morning we got 7 to 8 inches of heavy wet snow. It ruined my weekend train plans. I did get to our club meet Saturday night but was too sore this morning to attend the train show.

Good morning from sunny, crisp, nawth Texess! Cool

Started in the 30's but headed to 50's today! Nice!

Making progress (slow) on the 0-4-0 ERR project. Working on routing the antenna under the running boards (Using the handrails is out as handrails are soldered to the stantions) too much work to free them up and risk ruining the paint job.

Good Morning from a Sunny and cold 25F South Jersey.

Getting run over today, as I have been BUSY since punch in at 730...approving time cards and getting cars into the system to be scanned, NOT including the techs who need help modifying and rewriting their reports.

Friday got home and relaxed a bit, tried to get to bed early, 10 ish If I remember correctly.

Saturday started with 4 fire calls, the 4th was an active fire in an apartment that was modified by some of the Spanish immigrant population, which hampered the actual firefighting activity.
So by the time we got the truck back in service it was already 330......yeah I got in to squirt some water.  Fire Department installation dinner at 6.....

I ran over to the hotel, checked it and ran back to Mom's house to check in on her and get my shower.  My suit was there so I changed and ran to my house and got Jenni.  Got in to dinner at 615PM.  Sworn in as Trustee for my 5th year.  I'll be done by 2021.  At the Hotel at 1145 PM late checkout, we had a nice breakfast and was at the house by 330PM, started laundry and fell asleep for a couple of hours, had take out chicken wings and fries.  Ran trains for a while, no pileups!!  Finished laundry and in bed by MIDNIGHT.

We got 2 inches Saturday in the afternoon, was all gone by Sunday.  Winter sucks.....

Good evening all,

Did 7 miles in under 2 hours Sunday.  Paid some bills today.  Looked at new Lionel catalog.  Wallet is safe again.  Appears the starter sets are over 50% non railroad related.  Expanded Christmas offerings.  Weather cold.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Evening folks!

Started with sun and then overcast. Barely made 50 today. Front tonight and rain tomorrow,40's.

Got the 0-4-0 loco ERR conversion together and running. All good! Found some cheap voltage converters on Amazon and ran a test with the MTH smoke unit. I may change my mind about installing the smoke unit. The big IF is I loose a lot of the cast lead (not lead, but what ever the new stuff is) weight - maybe more than half.

Chief - bear rugs, yeah!

Good evening all,

Still cold.  Busy but quiet day (i.e. no one bugged me).  Went to see Dolittle tonight.  First 2/3rds pretty slow.  Last part picked up a bit.  We had gift passes and it was only 5$ each so no money lost.  Not sure I would want to pay for it.  Saw previews for Mulan, definitely a must see.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Cheated on my diet; Dinner went to DQ yesterday.

Good Morning –

It’s supposed to go up to 40 today – breezy still and 33F with bright SUN and Spring is still 2 months away….

Had dinner with Mom, the neighbors were over to check on her and we talked about the house and the insurances. The deal for Dad’s car fell through, so Jenni and I will explore what options we have to sell it for Mom…I assured her the house will stay in the family as long as I can keep up with it and pay the taxes.
With Jenni getting a house and I’m still paying on MY house, it may be a challenge, but we will see. Mom will stay there as long as she needs or wants to. I have 4 other siblings that will pitch in to make sure Mom is comfortable and happy.

I will most likely meet up with Jenni as she is working today. Long range plans are being made, she will have a surprise on the 12th, the Trenton Thunder Mascot Boomer is bringing her a rose, a card and 2 tickets to a Trenton Thunder game on the 24th of April.

Chief – I’ll have to get all my Lionel J stuff on the layout and get pictures for ya….

Been a busy 2 weeks which means work is making money, hence keeping me employed.

Will check back later ………………

Evening folks!

Very overcast today. Very damp, nasty out. Barely made it to 40 today.

Spent the day sorting/labeling/storing spare parts, stuff to trash, cleaning the work desk after the 0-4-0 project. Also did further tests on a simple power supply to convert the track AC (up to 18 volts) to DC to feed the 6-24vdc to 5 VDC converter to run the MTH smoke unit. Blew out one 5 VDC converter and do not know why. Infant failure or I accidentally shorted a lead. Dunno...but the second test is going well. We'll see.

OK - falling 'frozen' iguanas in Florida! Laugh

Didn't realize it's been almost a week since I posted.

 Gingerly eating regular food again.

Got about 2 inches  of snow cone consistency sleet Saturday followed by several hours of rain then the temperature dropped to 20 overnight resulting in the ground being covered with an inch of solid ice. Hasn't been above freezing since.

Found some issues with internal hydraulic lines while replacing the pump on the Massey Ferguson. The pump probably isn't bad. They are prone to failure so this deep into it we're taking no chances.

Roy.....the 0-4-0 looks good. Never realized this newfangled stuff actually needs an antenna. I assumed the RF signal was carried through the track. A suggestion,  remove the required weight and test performance before completing the smoke unit.

Heading to bed soon.

Prayers for those in need.

Good evening all,

Another quiet day at work.  Still cold.  Was looking at Lionel catalog again.  Only 2 pages of railroad rolling stock listed for separate sale in non scale section.  Not a good trend.  If this keeps up, there will be no entry level railroad material in a few years.   All of it will be trademarked stuff.  How many parents will buy a $1000 set to get a real train.....?  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning from a snow covered North Bluff above Marseilles IL.

Lite snow over ice, will make for fun getting around.

I was jacking around in the shed yesterday,,,
My neighbor fabed up a pneumatic beer can crusher for the shed. So I have been painting it and setting up how to mount it. Should work out fine once I get the main air valve and run the air supply to it. Every man cave needs one! Laugh Yes

I will share pictures as I get it running. Tried it last night with the air hose, smashed the can just great and it is if nothing else,,It is Cool!!!

Not a lot else.

Here you go!

Well here it is,,,,,What every Man Cave with Beer needs,, a pneumatic beer can crusher!!
Works great and so cool!

Did some work in the Train Box late yesterday. Surprise  Extended the external antenna of my Legacy Command base to the center and near to the top of the ceiling.  Don Baker found me 10' shielded cables with the correct ends to do this project.  Works great.  Figured better reception.

Chilly and cloudy.  Had Human Services Board this AM.

Later

PS: no paste or anything.  Just came out like above.

Evening folks!

Sun came out today. We will head to 60's for the weekend and then another cold front.

Decided today I will go ahead and install a smoke unit in the ROW 0-4-0 tank loco. Got the MTH unit modified, a power supply ginned up, test fitting. So far so good. Also checked out that the electrocouplers will fit. So once I stabilize the project where it is at, I will order the proper mini-commander that handles electrocouplers vs the one I received that controls a headlight and a specific Sunset/3rd Rail smoke unit.

KEV -  pneumatic can crusher! NICE!  (Watch da fingers!)  Dunce

Chief - there is a common element to your posting woes - the Rosyville Super Fast Internet Coop that uses the US Post Office for connectivity to the rest of the world Laugh you forgot your first class stamp!

Mike C - let's call the new Lionel catalog the GS special. Talk about getting mileage outta one loco frame....

Afternoon.  Got a cold [not too bad].  Wifey said stay in.  Probably build shelf under layout to put Legacy base on.  May slip to the LGS [local gun store, since Hunters Haven closed, 15 miles away, fill up pickup as Sam's Club $2.19].  Got a haircut this AM.  61 degrees and partly sunny.

KEV, we had a oil filter cursher at Motor Fleet garage.  Be surprised at the amount of oil we squeezed out of one.

Enjoy the day.

Hi guys, some interesting things went down the last few days. Got an e-mail from Roger Carp of CTT because he liked a picture I posted on SPF. Well believe me, don’t waste your time replying to him. It is a scam to make you do all the work and send him pictures so he can just tell you they are not good enough to post because of “HIS” perceptions of the photo.
You tell me what is wrong with this picture or if you see anything, and I will tell you later what he said.
Just Nuts and why I have had it with these Rags and their greater than you workers. I wonder if any of them have their own layouts or have even done the work to make one. And BTW it should be about the fun,,, Not the best of the best. Kind of like the car show circuit I ran in for some time back in the day. There will always be someone with something better, but that don’t mean they worked any harder than you did!
And BTW he told me he would get me help fixing my 2050 that I posted about over a month ago and never saw I posted with help from others, I already figured it out and it was fixed. Talk about OUT-OF-TOUCH???

Not to say Roger has not done a lot for the hobby,,,,he has, but it seems to me at some time in all professions one can become to the belief that they know more or are better suited to tell others how they should act or model. Not true JMHO!

Evening all!

Nice sunny day today. Made it to mid-60's. Supposed to be nice tomorrow too.

Welcome back Buckeye! Global climate change - snowplow on the Panama loco!

Kev - I think the pics are very nice. Post 'em here!

Finished up the 0-4-0 project today. Got the smoke unit mounted and operational. There was enough room left for me to install about 1/2 of the original boiler weight! Even better!

Hello there,

Kev.........they look good to me.

spent yesterday and today working on the tractor. Two steps forward one step back. First three tries to get a new hydraulic hose inside the case without interferince. Then setting ring and pinion clearances by trial and error with out the Massey Ferguson "special tools" and a used part needed some relief because it was interfering with the ring gear. The rest should be simple. (knock on wood)

This evening a viewing for a friend. Now sipping wine and thinking about heading to bed.

Prayers for those in need

Let's see if Insert Video works (As usual - nope - so link below). Video of the 0-4-0 ERR conversion. Smoke output is much better than the video shows.

Mornin' boys.  Rain and 39 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  I was asked to do double-duty on today's train, so I'm glad it didn't ice up today.

Spent 3 days in Annapolis, hob-nobbing with the politicos in the state capitol.  Had meetings with 3 mayors, a couple delegates, attended breakfast with 2 senators, and the probable next governor.  Had a lot of possitive feedback on the display I worked on, which high-lighted our vendors that we do business with.

Very lite rain at 36 degrees. Snow melt is down to the tops of the grass.

Kev Roger doesn't seem to like toy train layouts, your not the first to be rejected. Actually I use to think that's what the Mag was suppose to be about. Toy train layouts are fun. I think we are done with doctors for the time being. We sure need the break.

Hi All,

Got up to 3.5" of fresh slop. Then headed to Marengo with the neighbor to pick up his UTV. Roads were not bad and we had a nice lunch in Yorkville on the way home. Played in the snow with the XUV 590i Gator this afternoon and now have a fire burning in the fireplace and getting ready to have Din-Din. Dinner
Have a good night!

BTW Roger told me that picture was not good and could not be used because the BNSF and NS engines look like they are going to crash??? I said they are on tracks that pass each other and I don't think anyone would think otherwise,,,,WTH????  You tell me if you would think they are on the same track and going to crash??? Huh?

Could you not put a caption on the picture saying the kids are having fun in the pond as two trains pass each other on the lines behind the pond?? Not that I think it is needed. Just goes to my point,,,,,,,,,,,,why bother with CTT anymore?????

SJ, I hear you on being done with doctors for some time. Sandra is now done with PT and I just hope we can go the year without any new crap!

Roy, I would sure like to see pictures of how you packed that 10# of you know what into that 2# shell. Laugh Great work!!!! Yes

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 36 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Nice train ride yesterday, as Conductor/Narrator.  CSX cooperated with a side-by-side westbound run with us through the Narrows.  Had a 4 yr old birthday boy on the trip, and I gave him a tour of 501.  We have the BEST hotdogs on board.

Youngest Princess visited this weekend.  She went to work with her boyfriend last weekend.  He paints for his grandfather's contracting outfit.  Paps was ready to hire her, and let the bf pursuit other opportunities...

Buckeye - Which birthday month...?  Your're on, either way.  Nice pic from the big ditch, btw.

Did you know...?

Part of our route, at the WMSR, travels the Cumberland & Pennsylvania RR right-of-way, from MP 179 into Frostburg.  The C&P, based out of nearby Mt. Savage, sent most of its roster of passenger coaches to Panama, during WWII.  There was such a demand, that they placed them right into service without repainting them.

A couple seasons ago, I had the fortune to meet a lovely lady on one of our trips, and she was living on the Panama Canal during WWII, because her father was stationed there.  She was delighted when the C&P coaches arrived, and rode them back in forth from Balboa to Colon.  She apparently found the fountain of youth, as well.

Birthday month...???????Confused I have 12 BD every year. Smile, Wink & Grin.

Panama's history and ours is so interwinned. The first railroad had a gage of 5'. Later they changed it to our standard gage of 4' 8 1/2". The chief engineer for the Soo Locks designed the miter gates on the orginal locks and they were built in Wheeling, WV. They then shipped them down the Ohio, Mississippi, and across the Gulf of Mexico. General Electric provided the orginal electric locomotives, nicknamed the mules, for the canal. And on and on it goes.

Luckily Panama has kept the crocks in country.

Evening folks. Not much to report today. Afternoon was sunny and nice in the 60's.

I did the grocery shopping today. Mrs doing great and made the family dinner tonight. Helped SIL while they were here with looking for a coolant leak. May have been a loose coolant cap. Filled it up, tightened the cap properly. They got home with no loss. Will keep an eye on it for a few days.

Once again this site was telling me I didn't know my password.

Cloudy but 35 degrees. Snow is gone. Love it this way. The best area train show is no more. The head guy has retired and a comic book show is replacing it as the school's annual fund raiser. The local shows are disappearing along with the hobby shops. PS along with less magazine pages.

Listen... Confused  Hear that...? Confused  That is the sound of a happy Wifey in her kitchen.  She's wiping down her new refrigerator and dishwasher, that Lowe's just delivered.  I used the Lowe's gift cards, that my children gave me for Christmas, to purchase them.  However, I've been remanded to the basement for attempting to touch them, and asking too many questions...

Meanwhile, I hear Julie-frig'n-Andrews upstairs humming, "Getting to know you..."

Good Afternoon from overcast 41°F Southern Ohio,

Sorry for being away from the Pot.  My super busy schedule ramped up since the beginning of the year, well actually since Thanksgiving.

I’m going back to swing shift days/nights and weekends as part of the new / old job.  Starting nights this afternoon so after a morning of working on cars going to wind down for a nap before work.

My bride’s mom is now in an assisted care home and that has taken a huge load physically and mentally off of her.

I got another Marx set off Ebay, nice set just needed a little TLC, solder and a new lightbulb and it is running very nice.

Fife - Happy Wife, happy life!Yes

May God bless you and your families

Ahhhh, obviously a very slow day today!

Still working on some boxes of trains for repairs. I have completed one box. Almost through the second. Most of these will go back to the shop and back into display inventory. Some of these have been sitting around for up to 8+ years. Most were too time consuming at the time to repair and there was a stock of trains for the display. When done I will have two less large boxes of trains out of the house.

A buddy asked for some help today. He owns a scale model RR models business and needed some help improving a cooling system for his hydraulic plastics injection molding presses. He makes O and HO windows, etc., along with truck assemblies, etc., etc. Some of his stuff is former Grandt line. Amazing how quickly the hydraulic fluid gets hot while running the injection machine. So we may have figured out how to use the cooling system from an old water fountain to run the heat exchanger cooling water through. Interesting what (trouble) one can get into...

Evening folks!

A long gloomy cloudy day in the 40's. Same for tomorrow. Supposed to get back to 60's for the weekend.

If it is nice Sat a buddy of mine and I are gonna put new brake pads on the Tahoe.

I continued repairing trains today. Fixed two PE Bershires. One PE had the eccentric come loose and really decimated the valve gear, valve gear hanger, cross head, cross head guide, bent the main rod screw, and slightly bent the main rod On the engineers side. Got it all apart and was able to straighten all the parts and get her running smoothly again. Started on another Pennsy Bershire Jr, but the electronic eunit was toast. Replaced it with a bridge rectifier (these trains only run forward anyway) only to find that the can motor is toast. Ran fine on the bench with no load, but once on the track it cannot move without a push. Looks like a bad armature winding. So pulled it and started rummaging around in my parts bins. No luck. Looking for replacement motors on Amazon if I can get the worm gear off the old motor.

Did another bridge rectifier on a 4-4-2 loco with a fried electronic eunit and fixed some jammed gears on another 4-4-2. So almost done with the repairs of all the locos.

Dennis - too bad about the pups License issue. At least you got it taken care of!

Chief - take care of yourself! Get well!

Good Morning, my most excellent friends!!

Meeting last night to straighten up the fire dept files and a water rescue call in the middle of - some guy jumped into the lake to rescue his dog
Luckily, the cops got him and the dog out before hypothermia set in.  EMS took over from there.

30s today and not much more than that, supposed to hit 60 on Tuesday.  Yeah, wee'll see.  Sunny right now.

Team meeting at 10, have a viewing to go to for a fellow firefighters wife, she passed suddenly.  Good dude, that just sucks, she was fairly young too.....

Hope to make some more progress on the attic and start on the spring time portion of the layout.  Will probably run to Hobby Lobby and get some 1/8th inch balsa or
something like that to make sidewalks and curbage for the Christmas Village and get the streets laid out as well.  I'm thinking tar paper or something similar with white pin stripping for the roads and parking.

Some house work at Mom's house is on tap during the weekend, shouldn't be too labor intensive.

Kev - That is pretty cool!!

Fife - As long as Momma is happy....

Roy - Nice work - I'm waiting for the day I have enough time to do my "projects"

Chief - Stay well....

Dennis - yeah - I have noticed that slot car prices have jumped through the roof....Still, I'm not selling off my Aurora Thunder Jets just yet - if at all.  During the attic clean up, I found ALL my Aurora track.....and it should be ready to run if I can get a place to set it up....

Off to work again, hopefully it will be a smooth morning.....

Coughing spells off and on.  Dry tickle.  Called and got Dr.'s apt.  Surprised.  He was not busy.  Guess everyone went last week and earlier this week.

47 and sunny.

Morning,

Day 8 of gray and hovering right at freezing. They say we will have 2 more just the same. Nothing much going on.

Dennis, WOW had to buy dog license???? Guess they tax everything in CA. They make you get a tag in by the city but out here not much. They even told me that now you only have to get them shots every 7 years. Used to be every year?

Roy, I have run out of train projects for now.

11 Years ago today was the last time I walked out of Caterpillar. So I have had plenty of time to get those projects done. Wink Sure better than so many guys that worked till they died! When I hired in back in 1973 the average time retired was 17 months till death. Dead

Evening folks!

A grim, cold, cloudy day. 40's. Weekend is 'posed to be nice! Hope so. Got brake pads coming for the Tahoe and we have beers and repairs planned! Cool Well, maybe repairs first!

Repaired two Lionel M7 MTA power cars today. Replaced motors, rewired, and fixed the pickup rollers. Fixed rollers and lighting on a trailer car. These units were beat from continuous display running and not good for that anymore. Gears are near done, so will be fun for short runs. Because the gears are sketchy on these sets, never buy one used.

Anj - really appreciated your greeting this morning!

Chief - get better!

DivebarD - you have interesting mornings!

Kev - I am cleaning out years of train flotsam and jetsam....getting near the end of the repair marathon!

Regards, Roy

Hello there,

Divebardave....interesting breakfast. What's on the lunch menu???

Tractor is almost done. Couple of hours tomorrow should finish it. Son called in reinforcement to manhandle the wheels back on.  They each have  180 lb of wheel weights and 425lb of calcium.

Spent some time this week on the bathroom renovation I started last February. Haven't touched it since. Got the plumbing to the tub and radiator cut and capped. Need to carry out the debris and the tub is next. Then start going the other way. Meanwhile Mrs has been sortn and chuckn through the file cabinets.

Best get to sleep

Prayers for those in need.

Good evening all,

Mixed bag today.  Visit to social security answered some questions, may have raised others.  Got a lot of other stuff done.  Watched some more Hill Street Blues.  Heard the sad news about John Andretti.  Bummed about that.  Good man.  RIP.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 31 in the Potomac Highlands.  Wifey comes home today.  Can't wait until she turns on the great room lights.  New LED floods are in, and it updates the kitchen area, along with her new "toys".  Hope to stop by Michael's and get some spring floral picks, for trees.  I need a lot of light green, pink, and white.

Had dinner at City Lights restaurant, which is a block from the station.  Gourmet burger, fries, and a Beer for $12.  Yeah buddy.  Spoke with the owner, who asked if we were doing Polar Express again this year.  His business was "gang-busters" during our 34 trips.  That's what we love to hear.

Good morning,

Dennis, Yes some of the machine complexes were huge. Just the machine building was over a million sq ft with 40' inside height. There were two buildings with more than a million sq ft and one very close at Aurora on 350 acres of property. Here it is,
