Wow!  Talk about service!

I asked the Devil and DJ Spanky to send down some of their New Jersey thunderstorms to Virginia as we really  needed the rain, and they came through!  Raining right now and everything's getting a good soak!  Should be over with by the time the fireworks displays in the area are scheduled to begin.

Jersey guys know how to get things done!

Good evening all,

Spent 3+ hours edging, trimming and removing green stuff from the brick sidewalks today.  It was hot and humid.  All I have to do is recover the honeysuckle plant and breakdown a bunch of old cardboard boxes in the barn that are no longer needed.  Not quite as demanding as what I have been doing.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin' boys.  Damp and 68 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  We did get to Rocky Gap for their nice fireworks, and FifePops got to play "wingman" to the boy, acquainting him with a cute blonde, that shared her ground-poppers with him.  Girls want to go shoppin' today, and take the grandson to Urban Air (kids trampoline place).

We finished the boxcar kit, and sceniced the area where it goes.  With left over green paint as an adhesive, various colored ground foam was spread.  Then the boy added ladders, and a couple lumber piles to complete the scene.  Now to find some good looking carpenters to add to the scene.  We then turned to building a plastic Bachmann N-scale house, that we prepainted on his last visit.  Let me say, I'm so glad I switched to 1/48, as 1/160 at my age is an exercise in frustration...

V8Vega - FifeMax wants nothing to do with the bruins, thankfully.  And haven't seen the kitten today, either.

Star dbaker - Putting the "shake" back in shake-n-bake.

Roy - I think I would fit right in with your family.  Any ukulele players...?

Chief - Were you able to get the formation of crop-dusters to perform a fly-over at the big Roseyville Parade?

Sun and 90s today.

A 4th with the kids. Lot's O food and fireworks. Fireworks in Michigan are legal on most holidays and we drove home through a heavy haze of fireworks smog.

Morning,

Well everything is fine here in "shakey town", we didn't have any effects other than an extremely unsettling feeling.  I've been through many of these, but this one just didn't seem to want to stop.  I was sitting in the family room, and heard water sloshying around in the pool.  There was quite a bit of water spilled onto the decking.  Apparently there was a significant aftershock this morning but, didn't feel it.  Supposedly have a better than 95% chance of a 4.0 in the next couple of days.

We did go to the races and fireworks show last night, it was quite entertaining.

Sounds like everyone had a good 4th, thats tremendous.  Saw on the news this morning that 4 people were killed in car crashes last night, TERRIBLE!  Sure wish something could be done!  On the way home last night there were at least 4 cars that passed us, going over 90, and weaving in and out of the lanes.  Frightening

Take care ALL and have a great week-end!

Good evening all,

Took it easy today.  Caught up on newspapers and puzzles.  Did a few errands.  Watched a recording of Indy car Road America race.  Still hot and humid.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Break in the news a few minutes ago reported another earthquake in the LA area. Called DonB and he said my call was about 5 min after the quake settled. This quake was larger then the last one and centered about 12 mi from the last one. All is well with Don and Kay and their house at this time.

We just had another one!!  This quake is somewhere between a 6.9 and 7.1, definitely a bigger one!  I was sitting in my recliner and it actually lifted it off the floor, right side then left side.  The water was splashing out of the pool, as it rocked back and forth the water was actually 18" to 2 feet ABOVE the decking!  Water is actually all the way to the house.  I've had a lot experience with the quakes through the years and this is one of the bigger ones Ive experienced.  The pool actually lost about 3 feet of water.

From what I can see there isn't any damage here, but it is dark out.  Nothing off the shelves no new cracks that I can see, and train room is OK nothing down, was some people that fell over.

The location of this one was about 12 miles from yesterdays.  Located at Ridgecrest.  Ridgecrest is half way between Vegas and LA, about 150 miles NE of here.

There haven't said whether there is any Sunami affect yet, as much as it rolled through here and we are about 7 miles from the ocean, there could be one, but it would be small.

Just heard Metro Link has shut down the entire system for inspection, may be down for awhile.

They just adjusted the magnitude to 7.1, which is 10x bigger than yesterdays.

(I hear Hawaii is nice this time of the year.   8-)  )

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 72 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Last day of Grandson's visit.  When they returned from their outing, boy wanted me to help him build a catapult he got, then spent the rest of the evening playing army inside the loop of track we put up.  Ran the N&W 611 around him, with a string of military cars.  Grandson asked if he could stay a few days longer...

I mentioned these before, but the wifey picked me up another box of Creatology Project Blocks, at Michael's.  This is just one of those items that you go, "Hmmm, if only I had these back when..."  The manonry sized styrofoam blocks come in red, white, or neutral/tan.  I'm using mine for a retaining wall/subway area for my AF loop.  Too easy to work with.  I used Elmer's white glue, as I'm not sure they would hold up well with hot-glue, without warping.  Easy to cut/trim with an old zona saw.  Once I get everything in place, I'll do some "washes" with thinned down black and browns to stain them up, and stick some vines/foliage in the cracks and ledges.  Check them out.

Mornin All !

Slept thru it and didn't feel the second quake. After the second day in a row at the museum even though I wasn't in bed yet I was pretty much sleep walking. It looks as though I will no longer be doing back to back museum runs. These last couple of times have really caused the BetterHalf to be very concerned and I do agree that it's time to pull back a bit. At least a one day break between museum runs.

Yesterday went well, run time was accoplished with a Lionmaster Challenger and a MTH C-628 both in D&H livery pulling a long string of wood side reefers, also an Atlas Santa Fe U23B and a MTH L&N GP-9 pulling a long string of 4 bay coal hoppers.

Later all !

Evening All,

"Don B better have a rowboat handy cause Ca. gonna slide into the ocean." S.J.

I appreciate the above comment, and it actually got me thinking.  SJ is not the first or only person who has suggested this possibility.

Now given the Geological influence that I have received from Chris' conversations, I have concluded we don't really need to consider getting a boat.
(However it would undoubtedly be the best way of getting out of the LA basin.)
As we all know the San Andreas fault is a result of the collusion of the eastern side of the Pacific Geologic Plate with the west side of the North American Geologic Plate, forming the San Andreas Fault line.  Now given that Ridgecrest is approximately a 100 miles EAST of the San Andreas Fault, that creates a totally different s
cenario.  (The area between the fault and Epic Center of the quakes is over a 100 miles, that affords an area of greater stability for LA.)   At first I thought that, that would mean the East Coast has a greater chance of falling into the sea.  A result of the increased arc of the shock wave as it propagated east.  Then thinking about that a little more, and recalling the major fault line that goes through the Ohio Valley.  That fault would most likely create a buffer for the actual Eastern seaboard.

However, that creates a MUCH greater concern for the middle section of the country.  Very similar to what was the Louisiana Purchase territory and the area west of the OHIO Valley.  And, that land mass could easily slide right down into the Gulf of Mexico.  (There are no mountain ranges or other major obstacles, all flat land and marshes or bayous.)

Now, as a result of that land mass movement, that would also create a political issues.  Currently as Trump's Border Wall is now defined, it would probably be relocated with the land mass movement.  Resulting in Mexico being completely fenced in! The new immigration routes would most likely be directly from Brazil.

SO I DON'T NEED A BOAT AT ALL, AND NO CHANCE OF GETTING ANY CLOSER TO HAWAII, AS LONG AS THE EARTHQUAKES ARE FOCUSED EAST OF THE SAN ANDREAS FAULT.

Unfortunately, you guys that live in the center section of the country, or west of the Ohio Valley might want to think about potential escape routes.

Be Safe !!!

Hello there,

the 4th picnic was great. Enough fried food was consumed to make a cardio doc cringe. 10lb of wings, 5lb of chicken tenders, zucchini and french fries along with baked beans and tater salad.

Picnic

Followed that up with fireworks

checking in from Fenwick Island DE. Trip was longer due to the usual summer traffic. Daughter and family were planning to join us tomorrow after the drags tonight. They were rained out so they got here about 7. Son and family should be here tomorrow evening. Probably won't be a restful week but it'll be fun.

Best get to sleep

Prayers for those in need

Good evening all,

USA! USA! USA!   Great win by USWNT in "real" football today.  Perhaps the PK was a little bit shaky on the call having gone to VAR, but the second goal was in the field of play.  Some day there will be other teams to challenge the US, but that day was not today.   Something to enjoy for four more years.  Maybe one day the US Men will achieve similar success, but that is a long road to travel.  Put 2 Plasticville buildings together and covered the honeysuckle bush with another garbage bag.  Those are hard to kill....   I hope everyone has a good day.

Happy Monday after the 4th........

Looks like everyone had a nice weekend ...... Some of us had a longer weekend than others, which is great.

DougNotta and Don B - Glad you weathered the shaking, good that you all had little/no damage.

Flint and RT- Glad to have helped.....Mother Nature owed us a favor, if you know what I mean...
SPMan - Hope things go well, it's a tough spot you're in but praying for the best outcome possible.
Spanky - Yes, it's getting to be just like that......
Was ill the night of the 4th, I recycled lunch and felt better the next day, not sure what is was.....Saw fireworks in Cranbury Friday night then went for ice cream after.  Was a great night.
Went to see Jenni's parents Saturday, finished putting up a pergola with her Dad then her parents treated us to dinner.
Yesterday, we looked at houses and cleaned up and out her HHR.  Finished up the day with pitza with da kids and watching a couple more episodes of Stranger Things.  All in all, a great weekend with both families.
Been too hot in the attic to do anything, and I hate that.  I have oney saved for the insulation, just not a fan of doing it at 110+ in the attic.  I'm SERIOUSLY looking at a whole house fan, which would do the trick for the entire house.

Busy at work, which is good.  Off on Friday for Chryslers at Carlisle (PA) for the weekend.....

Good aftenoon all, kind of a quiet day so far. I did a few chores this morning.  Precooked some red potatoes and carrots for adding to stews and different things then refigerated them.  Now I can just pop them into whatever I'm cooking or use them as a vegetable.  Nice to do some of this stuff ahead of time.  I hate to dirty a lot of pots and pans for just one time.  I'm finally getting some use out of the new dish washer except for a few things.  Summer is setting in for a long stay.  Did some watering this morning and the yard said "thank you".  Still waiting for the pool guy to call me.  Might try to find another one.  Have a good day,

Ray

To V8Vega:  I had trouble getting on today as well, for most of the day.  Couldn't get on with Bing, couldn't get on with Google, I could get on with Microsoft but couldn't log in!  No problems with any other website, looks like Kalmbach's was acting up again.  C'est la vie...

Jersey Devil:  Lady Firestorm (She who found the 1940 Seagrave pumper Paramus NJ VFD Company 3 uses for a parade rig) had a whole-house/ attic fan in the house she gew up in and can recommend them highly.  Just two things, only run it at night, or all you'll do is suck the outside hot air in the house, and turn it off QUICK if someone in the neighborhood runs over a skunk!  You'll find out just how well it works in a way you don't want to!

Spent several hours today in the Chugger Barn testing locomotives I'm taking to sell at a train meet this weekend, I've got to thin the herd a bit.  Four fans going and it was still hot in there!

Good evening all,

Very busy day at work.  Suspiciously large amount of cases waiting for me.  Methinks some one delayed prepping stuff until after I left, then dumped a boatload in the work drawer.  No proof, but I can run some numbers.  Weather still dry.  Practice went well with kids.  I am hopeful we can have a good team.  I hope everyone has a good day.

We finally got to our "alternate location" about a week ago.  Was still fighting a bug I picked up in one of the medical labs I was hanging out in a couple of weeks ago.  I'm almost feeling normal, but still run out of energy easily.

I've done enough physical labor over the last few days that my back is complaining.  It seems that my back did not complain like this not too long ago.  Aging is not for sissies!

About all for now.

Hey, Good Morning!!

Cooled off after the rains yesterday, which was fine.  Got 11 done and had a tech call to round out the day.  There would have been at least 2 more tech calls, but I was busy enough that I couldn't answer.

I met Jenni after work and got her a key, she had more errands to run, met up with me afterwards so she could cut my hair.  Was home by 11.  Trying to prep for Carlisle and haven't had much success.  Need to clean and wax the roadrunner.  Trunk floor looks fantastic!!

Sunny and mild the rest of the week.  Depending on whether I can get the Jetta lease bought out, I may do that Thursday after work.  Needs to be certified and that will roll into the payments.  That gives me another 2 years of warranty.  Hope to get that done either this week or next.

Doing one now, hope to get busy soon, I hate doing the phone calls, but it is what it is.

Edison Train Show is August 10-11, Jenni wants to go and I am pleased about that.  We take an interest in each other's hobbies and it doesn't hurt that there are die cast cars at Edison as well.  We won't mention the slot car track, either....lol!

Flintlock - I have to start looking at insualtion for the attic to start.  I have $200 in HD gift cards just for that purpose.  Of course the next trick is to figure out the wall covering, as wall board just will NOT fit up the stair wells and into the attic.  Cutting it up into pieces is not a good option, not a fan of spackle and tape....

I may check into the house fan and estimate cost while I'm at the Depot.

Just got another scan, so I'm gonna boogie.....

Morning all,

Been slowly but surely been converting my garage into a train room. To get into the garage because of how they had the drive way, was to tight for me to get my truck into it without having to back up and get the truck set up usually 2 times once in a while I did it just backing up and getting it so it would go in, I have a cover canope for it to park under anyway which is fine. So there is no more garage door

This was the area of the garage door

So I found some paneling that looked like brick and this is what I'm using seeing the one wall is already brick.

The first two pictures is the long wall we had to do ( about 25')

Here is the only wall with a window, it faces the road.

and finally where the garage door was,

Still have some work to do but it is mainly there. Figure about another day or two and the walls will be done. I then plan to get it all straightened up and do a 4' 8' as a very temporary layout, so I can run trains. My now plan is to get a 14' x 20' shed whwere I presently have a old crappy shed that must be about 20 years old, it's the old metal type. I will have to move all in there into what is now the train room and take that apart and haul it off. Then I can move the shop into the new shed and still have room for storage in there of the lawn equiptment. Which will give me the whole 16' X 25' for the train room. one are by the entrance door I will have about a 4' X 11' for stairs from the house ( were going to take what was a window ( the garage was added onto the house years later so the two windows in the end bedrooms are gone but boarde up and you can tell from the garage side. and make it into a door so I can go from the house into the garage with out having to go out side.

Well I guess I got long winded enough for today

Talk to you all later, have a good day

Sun and 80s today.

Weather has finally been nice. We sat out last nite till dusk. Veggies are growing. We are harvesting green beans but the rest is still maturing. Due to the wet spring they got a late start. No toy train news.
