Hello there,

been one of those weeks. Got the wheel bearing changed on the Blazer. While removing the trailer hitch to put on my 04  Blazer  I found the rear spring shackles rusted nearly off. New ones will be here tomorrow.

Mrs came home from work on Tuesday with the crud. Stayed close to the toilet most of yesterday.

The snow cannon has been found!!!!!!. It scored a direct hit on us. The predicted snow,  sleet then freezing rain  turned out to be all snohio. There was 10 inches when I came in about dark and still coming although much slower. Supposed to quit before morning.

Mrs had today off, gave her a chance to recover without using another sick day, already on 2 hours delay tomorrow. I didn't attempt snow removal today. Tomorrow will be spent getting the plow on the tractor and the snowblower dug out.

I can't recall a snow like this so early in November.

Best try to sleep. Busy day ahead.

Prayers for those in need

Mornin' boys.  Received 8" of snohizo, and I got my cardio twice clearing the driveway, while my snow-hunnies cleared off the rear deck.  Also took care of the plumbing fix.  FifeMax wore hisself out "helping" with the snow removal.  Regionally, schools are closed today.  Train at 11:30.

KRM - Perhaps the granddaughter would like the LIONEL Disney/Christmas General Set instead?  And they are in the stores.  Plenty of add-ons for future purchases.

Mornin' Fellas

I've decided to make a career switch. Going back to school for a degree in meteorology!

All the local stations (Baltimore and WDC) were predicting a 'minor event' snow accumulations < 1 inch with some potential for icing then everything turning to rain. We ended up with 6 inches, no icing, and everything turned to rain after midnight. Kids were off school yesterday and 2 hour delay today. I am looking forward to 10am and some quiet. LOL. Kids failed in their mission to remove the snow from the yard, all they did was play in it and ride sleds... oh well... to be 5 or 7 again without a care in the world!

Yesterday Matthew asked me if tomorrow was Christmas because it was snowing. I told him No, Christmas is a little over a month away. He said "Good, because we haven't put up the trees, put the lights on the bushes, or put the other decorations up." We talked a bit and he asked if he could help put the lights on the bushes. Told him he could. I also told the kids that due to the move next year Mommy and Daddy only wanted to put 1 tree up this year... their response "As long as it is the one with the trains under it, that is fine!" Big Smile I absolutely love that they are still into trains!

1.5 hours till quiet time!

Aloha. Only got an inch or two of snow here and nothing 'stuck' downtown. It even looks like it is clearing a bit! I just dropped off the youngest at the train for a field trip into the city for his photography class - he doesn't like the class because they are working in film which he just doesn't get the point of (compared to digital). We may get a little more snow overnight but nothing like out east. The bride wants to go grocery shopping together tomorrow for the big day next week so I am free of my usual Friday morning routine though, along with work, there is plenty on her honey-do list.

Cloudy and 34. Streets are wet. I didn't know about the Pa. snow storm. At least it will melt soon.

Hi guys, Been up since I heard a shot out back about 6:40AM. Tired now! Sleep

Fife, we lost power again last night at about 9:00PM till 10:45PM. Angry Not sure what I am going to do about the train gift mess at this point??

So short on sleep,,,,,,and.

First day of shotgun!
Within ten minutes of getting in the stand. Dan, scored this great 10 point buck. Boy it was a chore to get up the ravine. He shot it up top but it fell to the bottom after the hit.
First one taken after all these years we have been on our place. But one worth the wait. Used the Gator winch and the tractor to pull him up.
Kind of made up for all those days over the years he just looked at the small ones and froze out there. I have a 6 point or better and no babies rule for here. Paid off today!
We had to cut trees away and clear a path to pull him up from the creek bed. Took about an hour to get him up to the top.

Way down there!

He ended up under a down tree.

Dan is going to get him mounted.

Evening all!

Hey it hit 70 today! 40's again on Sunday....

Last night the wife said the floor in our daughters former bedroom was very warm, like floor heat. We don't got floor heating. They bury copper water pipes under the slab here. Hot water line leaking under the slab. Got a plumber out and a quote...argh matey's...the pirates have landed!

Gotta break through the slab, fix, and patch slab. Cleared the room last night and pulled/trashed the carpet and pad today. Damp due to moisture under/through the slab.

Nice one Kev, have to make sure the better half don't see that pic over my shoulder!

Wow. Some snowhizo storm NE! be careful boys!

Way too many Christmas ads already....

Regards, Roy

Kev, Does this one require two tags or just one ?

Hunter kills deer with additional head attached tangled in antlers

Apparently during the rut two bucks got tangled and one died and mostly decomposed leaving some of the head.

Good evening all,

Stayed home Thursday due to ice and the internet was down as well.  Semi-busy today.  Weather was brisk for walk.  Watched Blue Bloods tonight.  Another good episode.   Do not have to go anywhere this weekend which is good.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello there,

yesterday was a busy day. By the time we got the plow and chains on the tractor it was time for son to go to work. The 12 inches of fluffy light snow had settled to about 8 inches of heavy wet snow. Just plain miserable to deal with. Kept plugging the blower and hard to push. Between that and robbing a hydraulic hose from the log splitter to replace a broken one I spent 5 hours plowing snow.

Afterwards picked up the shackles for the Blazer and another round of endless shrimp at Red Lobster.  Crashed as soon as we got home.

Kev......nice Deer!!!!!!

Roy........bummer on the pipe. Any way to reroute above  the slab???

Doug.....that picture is amazing!

Best get on with the day. Want to get the Blazer advertised.

Prayers for those in need

WOW Doug, that is strange. I can’t imagine seeing that walking through the woods.
Roy, bummer on the pipe. Was it caused by the slab shifting or cracking?
The wife was kind of upset about the deer but I told her to look at it like this. If it was not Dan someone else would shoot it so she got better then.
Banks, I also hate the heavy wet stuff. It rolls too much gravel off the drive when you plow it.
Light snow here today and low 30s.
When we dropped off the deer at the butchers, I could not believe how many small ones were in there to be processed. I know the meat is better on the young ones but seriously?  Give them a chance to grow up first. People! Angry
Canceled the Charles Ro order yesterday so will have to figure out something else for Maydson’s Christmas gift. Best get moving.

Evening all!

Hit 69 today and was very nice! Partly sunny. Cold front tonight. 40's tomorrow.

Spent the morning/afternoon building two 1/2 cord racks for firewood. Used a bunch of 2x6's from a shed I was going to build. Came out good and I finished just as the firewood delivery showed up.

Kev - the leak cause could be a variety of reasons. A bad spot in the copper, the foundation heaving - we have gone from drought to swamp in last couple of years, who knows? House is 41 years old.

Decided to change direction on the leak repair. Turns out ins will not cover anything as the repair cost does not exceed the deductible. Dug out some of my tools - air chisel, etc., picked up a diamond blade for the side grinder, and tomorrow will start to cut into the slab. Also having the plumber back out Mon am to discuss other options.

Regards, Roy

We gto back to home base last night.  Trip out and back totaled just over 2700 miles.  Drove the minivan this time, as it has not been on the highway recently.  Guess we got the gunk blown out of it good and proper now.

Most of the trip was spent with meetings with the lawyer and financial guy to get our estate plannng cleaned up.

We also stopped in Ky. and ended up placing an offer on 20 wooded acres.  The offer was accepted, so we just need to work through the items in the contract before taking full ownership.  This move now requires a change in our building plans for our yet to be place in Ky.  Simmilar process and issues, but the water line, electrical service, and access road now become about twice as long as the property that we bought a few years back would have required.  It also looks like a small bridge will be required over a stream that is on the property.  Hopefully, we will get started on that project this spring.  Ought to start looking into some CAD software for our home computer to help with the amount of design work that will be needed.

I've received the Hufflepuff and Griffendor boxcars I had on order.  I've got to check on the Slytheren and Ravenclaw boxcars that ought to be shipping at any time now.  We will probably order another bunch of elves to help populate the Polar Express layout too.

About all for now.

Evening folks!

Pretty chilly today - 40's. Slowly warming a bit this week.

Well got a test hole punched in the slab and the leak was not there, so pressured up the hot water side and saw the water coming from a likely spot about 15 in away where the pipes penetrate the slab. So started another test hole there. Ran out of gas so will continue the saga tomorrow.

Interesting Logano just won the NASCAR championship over the 3 guys that dominated most of the wins this season. Ya know Truex is unhappy about it!

8n - great deal re the KY land. Good luck planning!

8N, Nice on the land deal!!!!!!  Kinda of what we did. Big cost these days is cost of power to the place. Hope your close to some other power lines. I know some of my friends out west that got a 40K bill to do power. Not like the old days anymore. Hope the Gov don't stick their nose in on the bridge project, that could end up a big deal as well. Hope your far enough off the grid to not be poked.

3" of fresh snow cover this morning. Most did melt. We had mid 30s and sun today.

Roy, I am not happy with NASCAR tonight!

Hello there,

good day today. Daughter and her kids joined Mrs and I for ham pot pie.

Got up near 50 this PM. Most of the snow is gone. The ground is super soggy. Snow flurries tonight and rain tomorrow. Wish we could send some to CA.

Never did get to the leaves, may wait till spring at this point.

The fires in CA are amazing. Between them and the hurricanes the insurance companies got to be hurting.

8N,........good deal on the land.

Roy...,...sounds like you may get off easy on this.

Best get to sleep.

Beautiful day here also! Sunny and 50's!

Well with my work yesterday and finishing the other hole first thing this morning, I got the bid down to $1200 vs nearly $6k by nailing down where the leak actually was. It was definitely at the spot where the pipe entered the slab from below. I also said I would do cover up and concrete work. The plumber enlarged the hole for better access to silver solder the in ground connections. I am thinking of making the hole in the closet to the pipes an access hole and not fill it with concrete, or make the concrete easy to break out (2"). Also had the plumber 'free' the other pipes from the concrete so ground shift does not damage them. Will use expanding foam and FlexSeal around the pipes. But I will leave everything open a few days to ensure no leaks after the repair.

We also figured out a way to test the pipe being repaired that should a future bypass be needed, we found a central manifold in the master bath that would allow a single pex line be run through the attic from the hot water heater to a single point in an accessible wall behind the shower.

Banks Thumbs Up

Nice sunny day here in the low 40's.  We bailed the dog out of the vet's boarding service a day early and sorted through all of the mail that built up while we were away.

Did a little yard work, 3 mile walk with the dog and not much else today.

We saw a 3d printer making HO scale or maybe N scale houses at the train show we went to last weekend.  I found the web site for the printer manufacturer last night and discovered that it is a kit available for under $1,000.  Sounds interesting.

Depending on the part, it could be possible to print unavailable spare parts for trains.  It would also be useful to print a scale model of our proposed development of the land in Ky to use during the process to obtail the required building permits.

Later 'gators.

Well the repair went well until we put pressure to the repaired area and a new (or another unseen) pinhole leak appeared on the old pipe below the repaired area and too difficult/far down for the plumber to access. The pinhole leaks are due to erosion from the inside and there appear to be potential other defects in the old pipe. Ground/foundation shift are not the cause. So we punted and moved to plan B to run the pex through the attic. Got that all set up for tomorrow...and get to pay twice!

Mike C - I have also been following the 3D printers for train stuff...it looks interesting. One important aspect, the better printers as they build the part step in .003 in or less increments, others step in .010 which makes a noticeable rough surface

Mornin' boys.  Mostly cloudy and 42 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  The youngest Princess and I will back at the train yard today, decorating the coaches for "Winterland on the Western Maryland".  Most of the interiors are lit up, and the shop force is working on installing the outside displays.  Picked up the "outfit" from the main office.

Morning all !

Trying to get lots of stuff done in prep for Thanksgiving. This will be the smallest group getting together in quite a few decades, only 10 adults and two toddlers. We've been hosting family and extended family holiday gatherings for at least 40 years.

8n, Where abouts is the 20 acres ? My roots are multi-generational Kentucky as well as those of my BetterHalf. Lots of good memories of growing up in No. Kentucky on a small farm. Some years back we went down around Cumberland to visit some relatives and they were having a hell of a time with Kudzu overrunning everything.

Have fun with the P.E. layout.

Gotta run, later !
