Morning.  COLD.  Wind was a hurricane last night.  Good thing.  Leaves gone off of roofs and gutter screens.  Will stay warm today.

Mom was a big pressure cooker fan.  Hers had pressure relief "valves".  Was like a seal in the top.  She popped a few.  Made a little hole in the sheetrock over the stove [like a .22 bullet].  Believe it or not.  Daughter and SIL want one for Christmas.  What we have gotten them.

Hope all have a good one.

Aloha. Bitter cold here which makes for a tough walk to work and back from the train station - it always seems the wind swings around to be in my face each way.  Yesterday was quiet - after shuttling the youngest to and from 'basketball band', I watched a lot of Sevens rugby.

DonB, I am glad Kay's medsit is all figured out. I heard the Nixon library has a wonderful train library. I used to write away to the 'Osh' for their train calendars! The last one I got was from 2001 and it's still hanging in the basement.

I always thought a pressure cooker was the same as a slow cooker - now I stand corrected.

Rich, that is an impressive resume!

Fife, does 'your' museum stay open during this season? The Illinois Railway Museum officially closes at the end of summer but runs all sorts of Christmas and Santa trains - they have a complete C&NW bilevel they are using this year.

Rob, that Packers-Browns game was too close. But then again, I am a long suffering Bears fan.

Ray, I'm glad you have a train-with-a-tree this year!

Morning 'Pot People!

39 and headed fast to 70+ today, then another front tonight.

Mading slow progress on the son's room repaint. It will take 2 or more coats of Kilz2 to get a good base for the light tan color we will repaint with. Probably take 2 coats of the tan color also. Argh!

DonB - glad the layout wiring is progressing!

Fife - I would also be a bit concerned if I fired up a pellet stove and something was scratching the wall???? Smile, Wink & Grin

Cold 19 degrees. And we are right in the path of a big snow.

Pressure cooker food is very tasty and my wife blew a couple of safety valves too. She won't use it anymore. The new ones are electric and I would assume they shut down before blowing. I wanted to get her one but she says no.

Waiting for the snow storm.Sad

Good Afternoon from a chilly 28°F Southern Ohio,

It was in the low teens last night.  The rabbits and chickens are doing OK with the cold, keeping water available is a challenge.  I got the dogs a water bowl with a thermostat to keep the water from freezing.  IT works great.  Going to see if there is something similar for the rabbits and chickens.

We have a few different pressure cookers and use them quite often for cooking as well as canning.  They all have a weighted pressure release device that is pretty much trouble free.  You still need to be aware hearing the chatter of the device to ensure the vent is not plugged.  I think back to our first pressure cooker, it was made by Burpee and it had a gauge and when the pressure rose to some pressure I’ve forgotten, you would lift the handle on a relief valve.

My bride has something called an Instapot, it is kind of a cross between a pressure cooker and a crock pot, and we have dinner out of it at least a couple of times a week.

It has been a crazy busy morning.  I’ve been given two crews in two different buildings.  Hopefully it will slow down after lunch.

Kev – squirrel is like the chicken dark meat.  Makes great gravy.  Best meat when shot with a 22 and not a shotgun.

Lunch break over,

May God bless

Jim

Thanks for the kudos, guys.

I love the fire service, it's too bad I couldn't make a career of it.

My best chance was working for Baltimore County Fire Rescue, I aced both tests but failed the physical challenge.  Trust me, it was the longest 6 minutes of my life.

And it was a real shame, too, cuz if I had made it, I coulda visited my buddy Fife more often before he retired.

God blessed me with a big heart and lousy lungs......lol

In the 20's right now and then down it goes into the single digits.

Good afternoon all, got the root canal done yesterday.  It is pretty sore today.  Taking pain pills.  Can't eat much yet.  Have to schedule getting a crown on it now.  My sister in N.C. went to Chapel Hill yesterday for more treatment at a University Hospital.  Her two daughters went with her.  She is holding up pretty good for the appointments.  They will return home tonight.  Went to a Bible study this morning but had a hard time staying awake because of the pain pills I took last night.  Still sleepy now at home.  Weather is warm today.  Hope they get a handle on all the fires soon.  Later,

Ray

Snohizo now along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Wifey and I finished up on all the decorating.  The North Pole village on the mantle looks splendid.  Those Dept 56 boxes, woof.  Pellet stove still rockin'.  I'm toasty, not frosty.

Good evening all,

Meeting was not half bad.  Food was good and plentiful.  Weather very windy.  Did not have the best of luck with some Christmas shopping for wife after work.   Appreciated all the comments on the pressure cooker.  Old technology but still good when treated properly.  At least not as bad as my snow blower "manicure" of a few years back (that was 2005 if you can believe it).  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Evening,

Ray, Know what your feeling with the dental stuff, I would like to think mine is behind me but you never know.

Chief the house looks great, but did you turn the Christmas lights on?  Any decorations on the new room.  Finished ours last weekend.

We went up to Big Bear today, (elev 6745ft).  Was a great day 63deg, NO snow.  Not very many people there had a good time.

May go to Knotts for a walk around tomorrow and see the lights & deco's.  Vets and spouse get in free from Veterans day through Jan 10.  Pretty good deal.  Don't think any of the old crew work at the railroad anymore, but will enjoy the walk around.

Weather here isn't cooling down much it is still in the mid 80's.  I can invision having the snow you guys are talking about, it would be fun for awhile.  Probably would help with the over population problem here if we got it though.

Not much else going on so talk more tomorrow.

Don

Morning all!

47 so far, sunny, and maybe 60 today. It hit 70'yesterday, very nice!

Still slogging through the green room repaint. Had a 'spot' on one wall that the Kilz2 just beaded up on. Wiped off the Kilz and cleaned with denatured alcohol. Recoated and it still tried to bead up. So hit it real thin. Still have that entire wall to get a second coat of Kilz2 on. Very little hint of green left. Bought final paint yesterday. Hope to finish this by Friday. Have around 20 hrs into this so far...Grumpy

Ray - hope the mouth heals up quickly!

Chief - play nice!

Don B - nice outing! Hope Knott's is fun!

Regards, Roy

Bright sun but 15 degrees.Gonna soar to 19 for the high. No wind though.

We got hammered with at least 8 inches of snow yesterday. I do have a snowblower. Hit the snow last night and again this morning. Main roads are pretty decent this morning as they had about 6 hours to get them ready for rush hour. No train news at all.

WOW it was cold,,,16 out there this morning and will only get to mid 20s today.

Dennis, I had one of those 305 cc SuperHawks and there was "NOTHING" super about it. Just a 305 Honda Dream with a round headlight.

Lost money on it and replaced it with a 1972 Triumph 250 Trail Blaser that was too small to go on road so then on to a TR6C 650 then my T160 750 Trident.

Road the Trident to Yellowstone and back from IL. with no problems. Huh?

I also had a Datsun pick-up that was always broken down. Got a new Chevy LUV in 1978 to replace it and that truck was rusted away in less than 8 years. Laugh

Evening All.

Boy, does this discussion bring back some memories. While stationed at Reese AFB in the later part of the 60's I had a Honda 305 Scrambler. I rode it almoost daily between Lubbock and the base, weather permitting. It was a fun bike but it definitely was not good for competitive off-roading, just to darn heavy. If memory serves me correctly we spent many an afternoon in an area called White River. The wives would come out with the kiddos and picnic baskets while the guys would ride the bikes. Unfortunately had to let it go when I was discharged and started school.

Kev, I had a Datsun P/U that I drove for 21 years, finally was persuaded by the BetterHalf and daughter to get rid of it. Ran great all those years but the rust had gotten so bad that had I been involved in an accident it probably would have folded up like a beer can. Traded it in on an 08 Nissan crew cab.

No museum this Friday, just ain't feelin' well enough for it.

Later all !

DougDG,

I tried to use my 305 superhawk in the dirt but the way the engine was set the cooling fins would plug up with mud and dirt and the bike would overheat. And like you said,,,,,way too heavy for me back then at 125 LB.  Why I got the Triumph 250 Trail Blaser next. It was fine dirt riding but could not make it on road.

The bigest problem with that Datsun pick up was the carb they had on them.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Good evening all,

Rust seemed to be a big problem back then.  Lost a Dodge Colt and Opel Manta to that vile issue.  Work was mostly quiet today.  Weather was brutal cold for a walk.  Wife and I went to Wings and Rings tonight.  Split a pork tenderloin.  Wife baked Pixies for Christmas.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 24 along the front range of the Alleghanies.  Wifey and I have head-colds.  Need some good ol' homemade chicken soup.  And what the heck is a Pixie?

Spent most of the day in the train room yesterday.  2/3 of the main line is complete and running.  Lost an hour and a half on 2 malfunctioning LIONEL 5165 switches; luckily I had 3 on hand.  (Wouldn't throw on the straight side)  The 2035 that I traded submmbob for was my test engine, and it fell 3 1/2 feet to the carpeted floor, but once I retrieved it, it was no worse for wear.  Took right off, and nothing bent (try that with the new engines....).

6 trips over the next 3 days, so you might not see me for a bit.

Still need to start my Christmas shopping.

Morning C'Potters! Only 9 or 10 shopping days left! Get 'er done! (Fife!)

39 this morning and high 50's today. Nice and crisp!

Fife - make sure everyone - "keep your arms and legs inside the train!" And "no smoking on the train, the locomotive smokes enough for everyone!"

Finally got the 'green' room primered. Starting color coats today! Yea (finally)!

Good morning from a frosty North Bluff,

Wife and I just watched a MONSTER buck pushing a big doe through the woods from the main back trail around the north side of the house and across the front yard within feet of the house. He was about as big a buck as I have ever seen here and was 12 points or better and the rack was huge. She was a big girl that would be a great kill in her own right. But he would be a prize for any hunter. Cool way to start the day!!  Wink

A 2 hour trip to get home tonight for only 2" of snow.....oy

Thanks Fife.

I learned to ride on a Honda 90 when I was 12ish.  Had nothing but Hondas (I left a 750K model with my parents and they sold it to a family friend...I KNOW where it is, lol!) up to my V Star 650 Shaft drive I bought for $500 not running and sold for $1750.  Bought my Sportster in FLA brought it here and sold it as it kept breaking.  I bought my 2006 Road Star 1700 and still ride that.  It's a great bike where the Sporty kept breaking.  LOVE my Road Star!!

Got my washer parts in so I need to fix my washer tonight.  No shopping after my journey home.  My Devils are on, so I will listen to the radio.

Good evening all,

Got more accomplished today than I thought I would.  Helps when no one else is around!   Weather still cold.  Very, very few people on the path I walk.  Go figure.  Wife and I watched "The Book of Life" tonight, kind of another version of "Coco".  It was good as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Wifey is stuck in NY due to snow.  Flights canceled.  I use to fly in and out of Manchester NH during winter.  Deice and fly.  gld I didn't leave today as planned to go hunting.  Would have had to immediately turned around and driven home.  Babysitting.  No hunting this week.

Afternoon all!

8 shopping days to Christmas! I like watching the scramble.

All my shopping was online and it is done. The ms and I plan to go to the fancy mall one day this week to see about a couple more items for the kids that we could not find something acceptable online.

This is the time of year I use the free Xmas season shipping and order underwear and socks for the year. Like SJ! 12 pair (Jan, Feb, Mar,...). I may wrap them up and give them to myself from 'Santa'.

Had dinner out last night with neighborhood friends and then we came back to our house and walked down the block to another neighbors open house Christmas party. It was all fun! But lower processing systems are giving me a fit this morning...

Almost finished with the first coat of color on the green room. Coming out good so effort has paid off. This is an odd shaped room. Square and trapezoidal. There are 4 doors (hall, 2 closets, and bath), 1 window, and 6 walls for trim, which is why it takes so long to brush/edge the trim and ceiling. Plan to finish the color coats today and then call it quits until after the holidays. Sister and BIL are coming to stay for Christmas and I want the room to stop smelling funny by the time they get here next Saturday. And with 4 coats of paint (5 in some areas) it will take the week with fans running 24/7. Oh, and the spot came out ok so far! So now I notice...There are purple Silly String stains on the ceiling. Bang Head

Good afternoon all, went to TCA Western Christmas lunch today but had to leave early due to not feeling well.  There are only a handfull of guys literally left now that I remember.  A lot of my TCA friends have all passed on now.  Kind of makes you sad.  Did have a chance to talk with one of the past National Presidents who was there.  We are both widowers and talked about how we are getting along now.  I feel better this afternoon.  I think my problem was caused by something I ate yesterday.  I can't use my stomach like a garbage disposer anymore.  Have to be careful.Don, my son Richard took some photos of #41 at Knotts recently all dolled up for Christmas.  I thought of you when I saw it.  Saw your friend Bob at the TTOS Christmas meet but did not get a chance to talk.

Chief, did you mention flying into Manchester N.H.?  I used to go through there to visit my wife's folks in East Andover.  Never did it in the winter though.

Going out to eat tonight with a friend.  Probably just hamburgers but it is easier than cooking.

later,

Ray
