Evening all!

60's today and sunny. Changed tomorrow and Wed from 60's to 50's and some rain. 70 by end of the week.

Worked on projects and cleaning up today.

Sad. Feld announced yesterday that they are closing Ringling Bros Circus after 146 years. Attendance was already in decline and got worse after they ceased the elephant performances. The head of Feld was interviewed in front of their Ringling branded classic passenger cars.

SJ - nice video! Is that a Williams or MTH scale 44 tonner?

Regards, Roy

Good evening all,

Wife and I used some of a gift card tonight at Wings and Rings.  Neither of us was too terribly hungry so we split a meal and still was comfortably full.  Plus the burgers were $3 off!   Worked some more on some stamps that I had not accounted for and searched for local dealers.  I will contact them tomorrow and send lists to them for appraisals.   Hopefully some dollars will head my way.   Went thru more items of my parents and eliminated some stuff and sorted where other items can go.  Lots of rain here today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning to all,

It's another gray and gloomy day in Gettysburg. Yesterday we went to Frederick, MD for a birthday celebration with my son and his girlfriend. We ate at Black Hog BBQ. I had Carolina style chopped pork with vinegar based sauce and brisket. Both were excellent.

I've been playing with my AF All Aboard Pioneer 600 set that I set up on the dining room table a few days ago. Realized I'm missing a roof for the porch of the two story house. Found one online and I will order soon. I know I'd bought track locks at York a while back, but could not find them. Will have to search the train room when it warms up.

Gotta get ready to go to PT for my shoulder so I'll sign off.

Take care,

Mitch

Hello all

Back at work for another week. We got about 8" of new snow over the weekend. Fighting the remains of a cold I managed to pick up last week.

JimS - what exactly does a 'lift pump' do?

Found a place in WA state that sells some pretty good carb kits for older stuff. We keep having issues w/ the carb on the '38 Yellow Coach. We are going to take it to 'Dillinger Days' downtown on Saturday, so on Friday I will be spending some quality time w/ it.

On the train front, I found a good deal on a Lionel 623 (not that I was really looking:). I've always liked the look of these engines. I picked up a new Williams unit a few years ago that looked very similar to one they had in the Tucson UP yard until recently. It was a nice unit, but near scale size and it dwarfed all my O-27 stuff. I sent it on to points east where it can stretch it legs. This one is in SF markings which seems to be my brand. Will be the first Pullmor motor I've tinkered w/ so it should be interesting.

The end of an era w/ the circus closing. Trains did an interesting article about their train a few years back.

Good morning,

Cold and wet is the forecast here. Had thunderstorms in January last night around midnight and it rained hard.  Lightning thunderstorms in January???  Huh?

I think I will pursue a second level first other than an operating system. I can do it a little at a time. Problem with remote systems is the same as with any of that kind of stuff. As soon as you buy it, it is obsolete. Not to mention you got to buy trains it will run.

Bob, does your 623 have the ten connections to the handrail or the three? I think you will like it. Wish I had one and the 623 don't have that darn bell. Smile, Wink & Grin Pullmors are a good motor.

The Williams unit was boxed up not long ago for a rest for the first time since it got here to allow somnething else to do some work. Tks! Wink

Good afternoon from overcast 58°F Southern Ohio,

The basketball team had a great game last night winning 46-30.  Gabriel did good, had 6 pts and 10 rebounds and several assists; coach pulled the starters after the 3rd period when the score was 44-17.  I didn’t get to work on the truck any, but I have figured where I want to get the power to the pump from as it needs to be energized only in the start or run mode.  After work I have a class to teach so it may be Wednesday before I get to work on it again.

Bob – On stock LB7 diesel motors the fuel is sucked from the fuel tank by the fuel pump mounted on the motor.  This pulls a vacuum on the ½” fuel lines from the tank to the pump.  The lift pump is an inline pump between the tank and the factory pump that pressurizes the supply lines to 4-6 psi instead of a vacuum.  This helps keep air out of the fuel.  The lift ump is mounted to an additional 2 micron fuel filter for cleaner fuel going to the injectors in an effort to increase the lifespan of the failure prone LB7 injectors due to contaminated fuel.  In higher performance settings i.e. > 450 hp, the motor can starve for fuel under full throttle, and the additional pump prevents fuel starvation especially when additional filtration is used.

Mitch – The spring clips hold the panels together and completes the accessory circuit which is the yellow wire under the panel.  On the 600 there are no switches, or a whistle so you can get by without completing the accessory circuit.  In this case I’ve used the small black paper binder clips from underneath and fold the “wings” up so it will lay flat, to hold the panels together.  The yellow wire does not affect running the train.

May God bless

Jim

Sad news indeed with the announcement that Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is shutting down forever.  The animal rights people have protested the treatment of elephants on the show for a long time.  I have heard that the elephants were treated well so take your pick on who you want to believe.  Anyway, the show dropped the elephant act and attendance dropped like a rock.  A  deceased friend of mine was a member of the famous Wallenda High Wire Troup at one time and he and I attended the Ringling show many times together.  We were given the red carpet treatment in the circus "backyard" which is what they call backstage.  The Wallenda name was our ticket.  We visited with some of the performers that he knew including the High Wire Act.  We also knew a guy who worked on the circus train.  He invited us to lunch on the "Pie Car" once in Anaheim.  I became steeped in circus history thanks to my departed friend.  I will sorely miss the circus. It along with vaudeville, the big band era and a lot of other good things are no longer with us.  A very sad day.

Hello all

JimS - that's interesting on the pump. We often use electric pumps at the tanks of the Corvairs as a boost to help from vapor locking.

Kev - the 623 looks to have the 3 mounts which I guess would make it a later addition. This one has obviously been used, but is all there w/ no apparent major damage (the way I like 'em:). Thinking about putting an ERR sound card in it just for fun. That Williams is a nice engine, glad to hear it's got some use!

Good evening all,

Good day at work.  All caught up from Friday so I can work on a project tomorrow that should save me some more time.  Ok day for a walk.  Paid some bills.  Made some calls on the stamps today.  Will not be retiring any time soon.  In fact may keep what I have that is not used and used them for postage......   Does not make sense but when it comes to financial value, what do you do?   Wife wanted me to watch "This is Us" tonight.  Definitely not my cup of tea.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 50 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Supposed to be a mild week here in the Potomac Valley, and I'd like to get out and really stretch my legs.  We shall see.

Can only take 15 minutes of any news outlet, before I want to vomit.  I find solace in the Western Channel, and have enjoyed watching Lonesome Dove recently.

Been catching up with my closest friends, 2 retired, 2 still at the cop shop.  Too much termoil with my old agency, and I'm glad I had retired.

Mike about 20 years ago now My father had passed about 5 years earlier. Anyway my oldest Brother and my mother got Dads stamps out and had a couple of folks appraise/look at them to buy and they came to conclusion that they would make out better using them. The guys didn't even want to give full face value and my father even had block numbers and in some cases full sheets. So I believe my brother is still using some of them today lol. So much done on the internet anymore.

Morning all. 67* going up to 73* today. No real train news.  Not a lot planned for today. May do some yard work but thats about it. Over cast right now so will see.

Good morning from another day of cold and damp on The North Bluff.
Fife, got to agree with you on the news outlets. Even though it may be for completely different opinions. At any rate Gunsmoke, Wagon train, and Maverick gets a lot of air time these days here.

Working the elevated reverse loop line in my head this week. Not going to be any easy way to do it with so much on the main table already. Will need a lot of wood work to. Not my best skill.
As one would know my abandoned coaling station and the Mobil Gas tank and Derrick are both right where I would need to place my switches.  Bang Head

SS payday so off for supplies and Gas whenever SWMBO gets moving.

Aloha. I've been unable to login for a while because somehow the site didn't recognize my credentials. Then after circles-spinning in the browser forever, it did! Cloud here but warmer - since this is usually the coldest time of the year, for it to be in the 40s is great! Hope it helps DonB on his lightning trip to the layout.  Fife, I hear you about TV - I wish we had the Western Channel. I have been watching Barrett Jackson car auctions on Velocity as my solace.

Tough news about Ringling Bros circus. I remember watching the train go by and years ago, watching the elephants walk to the old Chicago Stadium. I hear the Illinois Railway Museum already reached out to them about the train cars.

Lee, I grew up just down the coast from you in Stamford.
MikeC, I thought of you as I botched baking some bread on Monday. I tried to quick-rise the loaves in a warm oven with a pan of hot water and it was a dismal failure. At least you got to eat your rolls for breakfast.
Buckeye, that is a great video of the ore ship on the lake. The other day I was looking out at Lake Michigan from the 33 floor of a building on Michigan Avenue and spotted one of the freighters way out 'to sea' in the ice. Do your grands get to keep their yearly ornament or are they on 'your' tree?
SJ, sounds like a great train weekend!

Good afternoon,

My cable got killed yesterday morning by Comcast workers working on my neigbor's cable, took over 7 hours to get an emergency repair order done.

The temp is going up to around 81 today here in southeast Florida, more then the average temp should be, should be around 74.

Worked on my Williams F-7 ABA Crown Edition Reading Lines set yesterday, installed the QSI sound unit from another engine and installed an 8 amp bridge rectifier instead of the circuit board. First tried reversing the wire harness at the circuit board but it didn't help so I put a bridge rectitifer in instead of the circuit board. Also put some wires to the power clips at the side track.

Afternoon Ladies !

Banks, Prayers for the Mrs.

The weather guessers are just short of calling the storms coming in Rain-magedden. Significant rains possible but this is one time I would hate to have beach front property with possibly 16ft surf coming in during high tide.

Things went well at the museum on Friday and the Kid's Club on Monday, no pile-ups. This Friday I plan on running a string of Pullman Passenger cars with a CSX "Bush the Elder Whistle Stop Tour Dash8". Should get a few chuckles, hopefully no one will go into a deep depression. Smile, Wink & Grin Second train will be a freight consist headed up by a Lionel Desert Storm SD40-2.

Time to get moving, later all !

NOW: have I told you lately what I think of this software?  Angry

No, but I have been putting up with you for almost 13 years on the CTT Forum Bang Head and the software is getting worse, just like MTH Realtrax Switches.

Told you so. Stick out tongue  Yes, MTH switches are crud.  One day I will start replacing them with another brand and wire them seperate from track.

Been cold tonight.  45 degrees.  Cooler tomorrow at 60 degrees.  In fact, suppose to be in the 60's for the next 7 days.

Off to bed.  Sleep tight.

Mornin' boys.  Clear and 42 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Hiked over 5 miles along the C&O yesterday, which took just under 2 hours.  If "pain is weakness leaving the body", I experienced a lot of departure the last mile.  Soaked in the big tub last night (even Ducky had wrinkles).  Wifey might go with me today.

Banks - Hope the Mrs' surgery went well.

KRM - check out BN Junction in Kansas City, the triple crossover in Richmond, and ZOO interlocking in Philadelphia for ideas.

cnw1995 - That wasn't you stuck on the train for hours the other day, was it?

Heloo there.......

Quick check in. Thanks for your prayers. Finally got Mrs out of the hospital 'bout 5 yesterday. Surgery went well. Mrs is relieved but sore. Took them some extra time and a treatment from respiratory therapy to get her O2 level to stay normal.

Best move on.

Morning. Cold this AM. Was in the high 30's here. 42 degrees and rising fast. 60 for a high.

Woke up early. Had sausage, egg and cheese sandwich with OJ.

Get ready for the eye Dr. annual exam. New glasses and frames.

Tomorrow, go inspect a mobile in the park for a homeless Veteran. Hope this gets OK from funder. If so, got him covered.

Glad Mrs. Banks did well.  Prayers.

Have a good one.

Good evening all,

Neat triple crossover pics!  Quiet day at work.  3 hours of meetings.  Warmer weather for walk.  No soccer tonight...again.   Took wife to see "Passengers".  Do not bother.  She liked it but it was boring.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin' boys.  'Tis a new day (and a wet one at that).  Wifey did her first walk (she don't hike) on the Great Alleghany Passage, up to the Narrows.  Then we stopped at Lowe's, and she certainly hiked me all up and down the aisles.  Girl can shop.

Richmond, VA is an awesome place to observe trains.  Everyone focuses on the triple crossing, but the lines leading up to that spot are awesome as well.  The top line shoots south across the James River, the middle line travels over a long elevated trestle, and the bottom line heads over a lift bridge just to the west.  It would certainly justify a "stacked" style layout.  And if you fancy street running, Ashland, VA is just to the north, hosting the busy CSX north/south main.
