Brent – The only carpet we have in our house is up the steps and the upstairs hall and that is because I lost that decision.  Bride has agreed it needs to go as well.  Are they installing pre finished or unfinished hardwood?

Jim - they are installing pre-finished bamboo (not the new growth crap you buy from Home Depot or Lowes) stuff is tougher than oak, and a heck of a lot denser!

I will try to post pics when they are done, should be about 2 weeks out.

Fife - I need to schedule a trip. Whistling

Kev - Social Media has made LE's job easier, but harder at the same time.

Don, sending prayer for your in laws.  Sounds like you and Kay have your hands full.  I know all about the diffculties with care giving.  It's a tough job.  I was in the hospital myself for 24 hours last week with some kind of medicine reaction.  They gave me three new prescriptions and cancelled three others.  Had a rough night last night.  Kept waking up with cramps in my lower legs, feet and even body cramps.  Also had some acid reflux.  Haven't had that in a long time.  Must be the new meds.  I did not do a good job of making a follow up appointment with the doctor yesterday.  They gave me a date sometime next month.  The take away from the hospital said have your doctor follow up.  What we have here is a lack of communication. Duh?  I'm laying low today and just staying home.  We have a soft rain going on and it's cold outside.  Will visit Helen tomorrow.  Went to caregiver meeting yesterday and it did me some good.

Good afternoon,

Hey Kev a.k.a. KRM what really is bad is having to pay for heating as it costs more to heat then cool. I know that air conditioning can run your electric bill up but heating is worse!

Any way this weekend according to the weather man on the local news we may see 45 degrees saturday or sunday overnight and then warm up to 75 during the daytime on monday with an overnight low of 56.

I have been in Fort Riley Kansas for a year & a half and was stationed in Fulda Germany for 40 months so I know what cold weather is. Also grew up in Pennsylvania & Connecticut so I am very familiar with ice & snow. One time in Germany it started to snow but was a mix of freezing rain and snow, tried to put chains on a 5 ton cargo truck with six axle drive, could not get the truck to stay in a straight line, started to sway or go sideways, even in 6 axle drive in fourth gear.

I agree but Brent has it made the world better? You see what the group in Chicago posted live on line??

Just sick! And the Chicago Chief can't decide if it is a hate crime???????????

You know your right Lee with the heat running so is the motor forcing the heat around.  But ,,,,,,well I just don't know. We may be a bit jealous. Laugh

Won 2 turnouts today on da-bay I needed and ended up @ $25.60 each with shipping. A left and a right. I have a worn out right I need to replace.

Got some paint and I am primer painting 3 ALCO 200 series shells I have restored. My original 202 from 1957 and two TX special 210 shells I replaced the front skirts pilot aprons on. They look darn good to me..

dbaker - Best wishes for your family.

Forgot to mention, got my pay stub sent from the Scenic RR.  It was cool looking, and wished I could have held onto it for a memento.

Saw that news item last night and thought I heard it wrong. Chief - good luck with what you have to deal with. I think we should suspend any discussion of it on line.

Don - prayers for you, Kay, and the in-laws. Tough times. Been there.

Fife - you could have kept that check. You don't really need it. Like a business keeping their first $1 right?

KEV - those ALCOs look good!

Good Evening!

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers re my MIL.  Its helped.  This afternoon they gave her another medicine and now her heart is finally in sinus rythm, and she is doing a LOT better. So will probably be moved from CCU to a different unit tomorrow.

Helped Lloyd get another layout operating w/DCS today.  However he was disappointed, handed me an MTH engine and asked if I could get it loaded.  The tender seemed light to me, even though their was a teather.  Opened it up, only had a sound board.

Sent documents to the guy who is going up to get the Chicago layout running.  I think this will work out well.

Gotta get the trash out, before it gets much later.  Thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers.

Good evening all,

Good day at work.  Walk was cool but tolerable with proper clothing.  Got to scrimmage with high school kids tonight.  That was fun.  Worked on puzzle.  Made some progress.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello there,

thanks for the prayers. They ended up giving Mom a bag of iv antibiotics for UTI and sending her home last night. She perked up a fair amount but today was downhill. I suspect that the UTI is not susceptible to the oral antibiotics they gave her. Morning will probably bring another trip to the ER.

Need to try to get to sleep.

Prayers for those in need.

Mornin' boys.  Clear and 17, with a couple inches of snohizo, along the Patterson Creek cut-off *former route of The Cincinnatian.  School is 2 hours late, which makes grumpy youngest princess happy.  Been told tree is coming down today.

Roy - Upon depositing it, found out it had already been spent back in Baltimore for gifts and a hair-dooooooo....

Good Morning from snowy 12°F Southern Ohio,

The kids got out from school early yesterday and the basketball game was cancelled.  I spent a good part of the evening playing with Gabriel and his new radio control car out in the snow.  It's not deep enough to sled in.  Then the school went on a two hour delay.

We're getting new tires on the van today.  I was plugging a hole in one of them the other day and judged going into winter was not enough tread.  The tires need to be ordered as on hand inventory at tire stores was limited.

Banks – Prayers for your Mom's recovery.

Don – Prayers for your MIL too.  The fact the other guy is able to get the layout wired speaks well of your original installation.  It is so much easier to work on things like this when there is a code, methodology and pattern that was followed.

Kev – The Alcoas look great!  Are you going to paint with rattle cans or air brush?

Brent – I like the bamboo floor.  It is harder than oak and it stays looking good for a long time.

Fife - our kids liked the two hour delay too

Time to get kids to school, may God bless,

Jim

Morning guys, 2 degrees heading to 10 with sun. Getting used to it. Heated the house all day yesterday with the fireplace and will be cooking wood today to.

Phish, I primed them with Krylon Fusion for Plastic rattle can. Not sure what I will do with the shells yet. I am building another ALCO frame up out of parts on hand that will use one of them. Maybe I will sell the other two. Not sure.
It looks like a light sanding of this paint and they will be ready for finish paint. The Krylon rattle cans have a very nice nozzle spray pattern so I may just go with that.
Prayers for those in need.  Angel
Weird that one day the news was from Chief's home town and the next day it was from Doug's. To bad it could not be good news. Tongue Tied

Don, glad to hear that your MIL is improving some..  Continued prayers.

Going out for breakfast with my train buddies today.  Woke up early at 6:00AM.  We don't eat until 9:00.  Gives me more time to get in trouble on FB and the net.  Got in a spat with my brother over politics and wound up unfriending him at his suggestion.  I don't need that.  Will see Helen today.

Morning all!

mid-20's this morning and for some reason it is a bone-chilling cold. When it was 15 a couple weeks ago it was not bone-chilling and the wind was blowing.

You guys will get a laugh out of this. For the last week the media has been yakking non-stop about snow today. At no time has it been predicted to be anything other than about 0.1" about 50 miles north of here. Just because a couple times the past few years we had a day where roads backed up, they now salt brine the bridges and roads if it is suspected a bird might T-T on a road or bridge. Spend millions. Today so far the snow is lighter than predicted (dusting) and will stay north.

Banks and Don - continued prayers!

Fife - a hairdo! Whistling

Regards, Roy

Roy that is funny. Out here they don’t even bring out the snow plows till it is over 3” and if it is the weekend maybe not even. I used to get so mad because I would get up at 4:00AM and do the ½ mile of lane just to find out the county would not show up till 5 minutes in front of the school bus at 8:45AM
The overkill and spend is just to cover some elected official’s rear.
Looks like RT and Chief are going to get more than you guys. Laugh

Brent, We did our house in 4" wide white oak almost 11 years ago now and it is holding up well. The bamboo is nice stuff.

Good afternoon,

Not getting as cool as the weather man said the other day, only going to the mid 50's overnight during the weekend.

Kev, it costs more to heat with electric because of the heating element drawing high current values. True electric motors in large sizes take a lot of power but residential electric heating can draw up to 3 times more power then a house hold electric motor. Ceiling fans don't take that much power, an electric drill might use a few watts more.

Didn't get much done on the layout in the last 2 days as it seems that my legs must have athrititus or leg cramps flaring up because of the cooler weather.

Afternoon all,

Just heard there was a shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale airport, local news channel 5 WPTV. Time of shooting 12:55 pm today. Several shots fired, 5 killed and possible a few other people hit. Right now all south Florida airports on alert! One person in custody, not sure if that person is the shooter or not.

I am on my way Roy!!!   Yes  As soon as I stock some wood. Smile, Wink & Grin And shovel some snow.  Laugh

Lee, Elect heat here is nuts for cost and we are within 10 miles of the LaSalle station Nuke plant. NG or LP gas is the only way to go.

Just put corn out for the deer. It is 8 degrees. Warming tomorrow.

Prayers for the latest victims in FL.

Cold rain so far.  The guessers can't decide where the sleet/snow line is going to be.  They keep moving it.

Yankee cold temps for a few days.

Had emergency lazar eye zapping a few minutes ago.  Had a tiny tare in my retina about 5:30.  Eye Dr. buddy came back to his office up the street and fixed it.  Lucky only real small.  Eye fine now.

Stay warm.

Evening all!

I searched and found a 1/4" snow drift on my porch!

Half the bridges were hosed due to 0.1" of snow. Guess the 2 days of salt brine prep was not too effective.

Kev - you da man!

Phish - Big Smile

Chief - take care of the eye!

Good evening all,

A good day at work.  Got some projects done.  Very brisk on noon today, but sunny.  Watched "Grimm" and the "Emerald City" tonight.  Both were good.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Yikes!  Snowing in the Richmond VA area this morning, about 4 inches so far and still comin'.  So much for taking the Christmas lights down this weekend, although they WILL look nice in the snow tonight.

Morning all! She's a bitter one this morning! No snow, but a layer of frost. Almost wiped out on the deck when I let the dog out!!

Mike - Uggh. I forgot Emerald City was on! The promo trailer looked good. I hope it lived up to it. I'll find it on Tivo.

Chief - Glad the eye is okay.

Roy - I'll cancel sending the National Guard down! Big Smile I have to admit, it is quite comical to us Northerners when we see the "snow storms" down south and how everything comes to a standstill with a 1/4" of snow. Ironically, I was messing around on Google Maps the other day and I was showing my wife where I used to live for a bit in Lake Jackson, when I was a young rug rat. I said we'll have to go back for a visit, but I'll wait until it gets warmer!

Prayers to all in need. Have a great day!
