Frank sent me a note about the emoticons and the spell check. I shot the comments down to Alex in online publishing, and here are his comments:
"I will see if we can do something about the emoticons.

Can't seem to find the button to do a search of topics on the forum. I must be blind!
"Scatter Joy" - Emerson
Is anyone else having trouble telling the read and unread posts apart? If there are examples of both on the screen, I can figure it out; but otherwise the slight difference in brightness, using the same hue, is not enough for me.

Also if your trying to figure out how to get to last post just to the right of the name it will say "replied xx minuets/hours ago" click there.

Emerson, use the Search the Community search box, to the right, just below the free e-mail newsletter box.
Not a big fan of the font as it's showing up in the finished posts. Some letters look a bit bloated.
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!

Bob - could you see if IT can figure out how to make the 'Reply' edit box larger? Only being able to see 5 lines of your text makes it difficult to see what you are typing.
I will, but since this isn't created in-house, I'm not sure how much they can do.
And Alex replied:
"There are two reply types on the forum.

Well, in Firefox, not working on this forum but all my other forums.

Hi Bob,
The Community Search line in several tests I have performed does not seem to acknowledge that any of the forums exist. I have tried on both the MR forum and this one. For example - a search on my username here returns ...no results...
i was trying to use the community search on the MR forums for any discussions on the 75 year MR DVDs to see if a question I have has already been addressed. No results. Yet there were discussions and posts when it came out.
The community search only seems to search the stuff Kalmbach sells and even that did not seem to work well.
i will also note if you go into your profile there is no button to return you to the forum. One has to use the back button multiple times or start completely over by clicking the CTT magazine icon and then drilling back into the forum.
Also missing is the "path" line (I.e. Home -> Classic Toy Trains -> Forums Etc) at the bottom of a page. A bit annoying to have to scroll up to the top of the page on a long post page to re select "toy train operating and collecting" when one wants to get back to the forum top level.
i do complement you on re establishing the EDIT button vs the tiny pencil icon.
Regards, Roy
I found the same. Was visiting the "forum member pluses" and could not get back the the forum without restarting. Maybe did not see it but forum not mentioned.
I like it.
..........Wayne..........
The above post was from a Google Chrome browser that always worked better here than IE11.
This is a test from IE11. So far so good.
Yes! I used to post here using HTML code to format my sentence and paragraph structure. Now whatever I see in this box is what I see when I post. The IE11 bug is gone.
Thank you Carl Swanson, Bob Keller, Alex and anyone else who worked on this project. This is so much easier to use.
QUESTION:How does one reply to a post in a totally new, seperate post in the same thread? Also, why does it take hours for a submitted post to be seen or viewed on this forum? Many other forums allow your post to be viewed immedately... not hours or days later.Thanks.
.
If your a new member that will happen for a couple of times to ensure your not a troll we all have been thru it. Welcome to the forum. We have at one time a lot of trolls or a couple that kept trying to come back so it was necesary to do.
All new forum members have their first two posts moderated. Moderated means it gets approved by a moderator. There are a few bad boys who have all their posts moderated.
As for comments submitted via comments boxes on items posted on the website, they are approved (mostly by me) but the software for those comments is tethered to magazine production software which can't be accessed from outside the company, so no approvals on weekends or holidays).
Something I noticed that is missing from the old version is "Who's on line", which showed who else was actively on line. I know it is a miniscule detail, but still getting used to the new format. I personally liked the old version.
There seems to be no way to reply to this thread: http://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/t/242879.aspx
Sorry, Bob, I see a reply button. Are you logged in (I didn't until I logged in on my desktop puter).
Yes, I was logged in. In fact, I went directly to this thread to post the message above. It allowed me to do that and, as you can see, recognized who I was.

Using IE11 produced same result.</p><p>Pressing [Reply] returned an offer to log in.</p><span style="background-color:PaleGreen;">As long as I am on here testing, this is a check to see if posting in HTML still works.</span> Yes or No</p>
No.
Bob, I do not wish to get an email every time someone posts on the Forum. I have tried to stop it thru my Profile with no results. Please stop this action.
Chuck [Blueberryhill]
This is the first I've heard of this related to the forum change. I'm out of the office, but I sent an email asking someone to post how to do this.
Never mind Figured out what was going on it was my putor not the program
I've had two instances of an entire topic's being cropped on the right side, every post. Both topics had pictures posted. The first one is http://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/t/242988.aspx and the second just now is http://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/t/205723.aspx
Bob I wonder if you don't have some malware sneak in on you like I did. I finally found it and everything is fine, as so far your the only one coming up with this problem as I was with my problem. it was in the area of extension as I use Chrome most of the time.
