Well I was going to use the new tractor today to move my old fridge out to the road for pickup. When I went down to get it I found that it wouldn't move. Not forward or backward. I looked underneath and found that the drive belt has been burned up. It was running fine the last time I used it and had no drive problems. And it's obvious to me that it's been moved since then, so that means somebody used it and couldn't keep their darn foot off the brake pedal. I've told the other family members many times the brake isn't for stopping under power. It's only for parking and to keep the tractor from rolling while in neutral. Period. Some of them can't get that through their heads. If the responsible party doesn't step forward and pony up the money for a new belt I'll put a kill switch on the ignition system so only I can start it. I'm tired of this 'somebody else will fix it if I break it' crap!

Good afternoon all,

It is warm in SE Indiana.  Finished state taxes last night.  Noticed Chief was not talknig about North vs. South after Tuesday's night game.  Our family had pretty good luck with K-cars and their derivatives.  Had 2 of them that lasted over 20 years each until outside events occurred to cause them to depart from the family.  As far as RI 52 and his situation with the other half, all I can say is "Been there, done that".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

OBSERVATION  FOR THE DAY:

When I got up this morning to take out the trash and recycleables I heard the furnace running.  Yesterday I had turned the thermostats down a couple of degrees because we had 60s.  I wanted to open some windows and let some fresh air into the house.

Last night I left the thermostats lowered and closed all of the windows EXCEPT the one in our bedroom/office because my wife was playing around on the PC.  "Make sure you close the window when you come to bed, dear" I told her.  Needless to say, she forgot.  The second floor thermostat is right outside that bedroom in the hall.  The furnace kicked in and ran all night.  (And no, that did not raise the outdoor temperatures.)

Did you ever get to thinking that wives do this kind of stuff on purpose?  She will be the first one to point out a light left on by me but will have two televisions going at the same time, on different floors!!!

I need to consult some of the senior statesmen on the POT to determine if this marital enigma is temporary or a life long curse.  Bang Head

Afternoon Fellas

Still a bit under the weather. According to the doc I have an intestinal virus and I've been on antibiotics since Monday. Yuck!

Not sure if you all remember this photo from Christmas:

Well it has been my desktop image on my office PC at home since the day I took it. Well this morning I was getting some stuff for TheQ and Christina came in, looked that the screens and said 'My Choo Choos!' She then climbed up on my lap and was pointing and talking. Gotta love her! Her eyes were so big and happy! I asked her if she wanted to see them again and she said 'Yes!' So I guess I'll have to really try and make some headway on the train garden again. When The Princess demands it... Daddy makes it happen!

Good afternoon, feeling better now.

No homework again tonight. Just got a new reaserch paper topic for English class. The next paper simply has to be about literature in some form or another. I am going to do this paper on "The Last Dogfight". Good book. Should work well.

Howwdy !

Started on the Relay For life Layout, picked up a small hollow core door and a sheet of soundboard at Lowes. The door is already primed but the soundboard took a quart of primer for one side. Maybe tonite or first thing tomorrow morning will use contact cement to join the soundboard and door together, then the fun starts(love playing with a router). Cowboy

Hello again. Air show in Geneseo New York in July 12-14. Decided to ask Danette if she wanted to go. She said that she might be busy, but since it's still 3 months off, she might be able to go. Just kinda crossing the fingers now.

One belt later and the tractor is running again. My nephew and one of his friends used it last so he (nephew) fixed it. There were a couple of anxious minutes after he started it and pulled the drive lever back for reverse. It didn't move. Little wonder. The safety release for the trans-axle was pulled out and locked. I unlocked it and pushed it back in. It moved then. He drove it in a few circles in the back yard then parked it making very sure he didn't touch the brake until it was in neutral. Seems he can still learn some things.

Had dinner with my father this evening. Pinto beans, rice, corn bread. Afterward we watched wheel of fortune then I came back home.

Looks like the weather may get nasty tonight. There's a cold front moving across east Texas and it should be here in an hour or so. The weather guesser is moaning about lows in the low 40's and possibly a 90% chance of rain with heavy rain and gusting winds possible. It could be an interesting night.

Tired.  Grass mowed here and at Grady's.  Roundup sprayed.  Disked my garden spot again and Grady's too.  Almost got stuck in his.  He has a very wet spot.  Then he piled leaves on it thinking it would help.  Just keeps it wet.

Moved a big pergola from Town Hall on my big trailer and was sticking out the right side 5 1/2 feet.  12 feet long.  Lucky, fence has two 6 foot gates.  Now on trailer under shelter.  Will put it up soon and do photo.  Took 5 of us to load it.  Its big.

Had to turn A/C on.  Wifey whinning.

Later.

Hello all

Back @ work for another week, although on days this time. So far so good w/ our transfer employees. Tired though, as I generally never sleep well the night before coming up on days.  Have to work a few hours later too as my co-worker is having a shift cable replaced today. Ended up w/ only third gear in AlmagordoTongue Tied

Roy - our police have the new Tahoe 5.3's. I like the engine design on those. I got to drive the '09 Trailblazer to work this week. The flagship of the fleet! The 6 cyl in these is very smooth, rather spunky, and gets decent mileage.

I agree on the diesel. There was nothing like my Dodge Cummins to pull my 38' park model @ 12K pounds. But if you're not towing or hauling it's a bit of overkill. Kinda rough off road too, since the suspension is so stiff.

BTW the K-car had an interesting Mitsubishi engine that could run w/o the alternator belt. No nothing. Customer came in w/ a broken bracket and we got him home by recharging his battery and selling him a spare. Water pump ran off the the timing chain on the opposite side of the block. I've heard they were tough to kill too. Like the Cummins, the car would wear out before the engine did.

Jack - I have the same problem w/ the thermostats in the instrument rooms. This summer I'm going to put them in locked boxes and lose the keys.

Kev - nice work on the 218!! Alcos and PW rock!!

Chief - the mice may be teaming up w/ the beavers...Stick out tongue

Jeffrey - nice score on the frig. And I'm sure you could install the be all to end all kill switch on the mowerSmile, Wink & Grin

Rich - hang in there. Saw a cool old firetruck downtown last weekend and thought of you guys.

Well therapist paid, rent paid, storage paid, and tax accountant  paid. Last week was a bit tight but we came thru w/ a bit of a refund after all. Will pay some debt and then find some rear shocks. A speedo cable would be nice too.

Did not make it to the air museum. Too windy on the day I was thinking anyway. The sound of the car w/ the windows down does make me think of dad and smile. He would love this car.

We got a few inches of snow on the mountain Mon./Tues. Jeffrey getting what's left after it makes the drive across I-10.

WOW - big storm here in Saint Louis, though Arnold was spared damage.  Tornado damage to the North.  Prayers for John's daughter with her dog problem.  Prayers for all that need them.  Nothing much going on here lately.  Lots of stuff going on at work, some of it is even useful.  Had to call in the union to help us out on a problem, which was initially created by a union steward - ironic.  We'll see how it all works out.  After nearly 24 years there, I think I have an idea that things even out after a while and get better.  Bad ideas have a way of burning out.  Tardis is ready - we have peanut butter cookies, but don't give them to the dog.  SJ gave her one last night and she messed her doggie bed Sad

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

RJ – Where in OK does your wife call home?  My wife is originally from Muskogee.  I use Photobucket for storing/uploading photos online.  If you’re using solid 2”x4” framework then ½” plywood should be sufficient.  Are you planning to use homasote or foam on top of the plywood?

If I use 1"x4" framing will I need a thicker board? Not sure about topper for the board. Probably go with whats available.

RJ/Charlie Brown I made my framing using 2"x4" for my legs and basiclly 3/4" by 2 1/2" ( stripping ) For my framing and put 3/4" plywood for top and it will hold me with out giving at all and I weigh 280LBS. I'm presently walking and crawing all over it as its 8' x 16' oh I put the 2"x4" legs about every 4' go from front to back and every 2' left to right as I had lowes cut my plywood in half because it wouldn't fit in the car ( man I miss my truck lol. )

Morning all at work so need to run just a quick stop by to say hi

Did you top the plywood with anything?

Had a crappy day today at work. Went in at 5am just to not get our issues resolved. Then went on a service call and I think the only thing that didn't get wet were my socks. It is getting into the thirty's tonight. At least the rain quite for now. It supposed to start again Thursday afternoon. We already have flooding all over.StormUmbrella

I have a service call first thing in the morning and interference hunting after that.

Guess my layout might be on hold for the time being ... need to pay taxes instead. At least I can get furniture moved and my track laid down temporarily. Plus it will give me time to replace some of the 027 track I have with 0.

Good night all form the thumb of Michigan.

Prayers to my family and any others in the St Louis and Ofallon area of Mo.

Ohayƍ,

It’s about lunchtime so I’m taking a moment at work to post.  The workday has been moving along and I have my annual dental checkup this afternoon.  I watched the ladies championship game yesterday morning.  I don’t think you could actually call it a game as UCONN embarrassed UL; I almost felt like they should have had a mercy rule.  I’m not sure what the UL coach told his players afterwards as I’m sure they were very demoralized.  I hope they quickly realize there are more important things in life, but they are just kids so I’m sure it was very tough to take.

Happy Birthday Spankybird!

Jack – My wife tells me she leaves all the lights on because she knows I enjoy turning them off. ConfusedLaugh

RJ – We lived in Enid before moving here to Japan.  My wife has plenty of family in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, OKC, and Muskogee.  If you need to stand on your layout then follow RT’s advice.  If you do not plan to stand on it then ½” will be sufficient, or if the bracing is extremely solid then maybe even ¼” will work.  Even though you may not need to stand on it, you want to make sure it doesn’t sag in any places.  I’m pretty sure I used ¼” when I built tabletop benchwork for our layout in OK, but my framing/bracing was spaced pretty close together so I had no sag issues and I did not have to stand on it.  If your layout is not very deep then you shouldn’t have to stand on it.  I used 1” blue foam on top of my plywood as that’s all my local Lowe’s had.  It worked well and made doing scenery easier.

Brent – I remember that photo.  I had some good ones of our two boys watching the trains this past Christmas too.  What are the dimensions of your platform?  It fits nicely into that corner.

dougdagrump – I hope you can share photos of your latest project.  I’m always fascinated by small O layouts.

Ryan – You redeemed yourself with your last scrapple comment. Yes I hope everything on the home front continues to improve and work itself out.  I’ll be praying for you both.

Sayonara,

Joe

Evening all was going Thur what I have for sale and have misplaced to items up for sale so had to remove them from the listings. that's okay when I find them will list them again. finally getting some organization in the train room and I now have a 8' X 16' Train table to fill lol.

Not much else going on right now.

trying to figure out a way to have 5 loops 3 will be connected together the other 2 will be conventional one may have a TPC-300 hooked to it. The one that is super O track. Think the best thing to do is work one loop at a time to get everything where I want it as shooting this one from the hip but that's how I like to do it.

So Far just green Carpet about 1/4" thick from Lowe's. Have to do some other things before I start screwing the track down I also plan on putting liquid tape(I think its called its for insulation around electrical its black in a small jar) on my screws as it seems to help insulate the sound from track to the plywood will get correct name tomorrow for you I do the whole screw let it dry then screw it in.
