Since we don't have the high winds today I went to town this morning to get refills on all my meds and send a package on it's way to Florida. I got home about noon and found two packages waiting on me. One was a box containing an assortment of nine freight cars from Bachmann, Roco, Mantua, Lionel and Life-Like. The other was the box with my new FP7. And it is literally new. E-R Models Rock Island 405. Not a scratch on it anywhere and the factory lube in the gear boxes. If it's ever been run before today I can't tell it. Upon opening it up I saw that it was DCC Ready. It took me about five seconds to plug a Digitrax DH123 into that socket. The loco runs like a Swiss watch. No gear noise, no motor hum. And I got this for under $40? I feel like I just ripped off the Crown Jewels and got away with it! I'll have to see if I can find more of these in this price range and pick them up as I can.

Oh yeah I remember the snow. Thats why I live down here. It was great when I was younger but have no use for it now. Like to look at it in pics its so pretty but thats as far as I want with it.

Evening all not a lot going on here. Had a good day at work today. Felt good being back to work back a little sore after being on my feet all day but still felt good.

Now I remember why I continue to live in California.  It's the weather or should I say the lack of it.  Been there done that on the snow.  Don't need any now.

Ray

Be honest, Ray.  You really miss the snow, don't you. Laugh

Glad you lucked out on the weather Fife. Yeah

V8Dennis, I too miss the old Local Drag Strips. I spent a lot of time, had a lot of fun and spent a lot of money at the old Oswego drag strip. Stick out tongue

I took the wife to Waldoworld today because she broke the carafe for the coffee maker. We got the Mr. Coffee that does not have a carafe you just push the cup under it and it pumps the coffee out. It also has a timer so it can start before she gets out of bed. I told her I would buy it for her as her birthday gift because her birthday is Friday. I let her get some pants and other stuff she wanted too and basically wasted 2 hours of my life. She is happy so I am good. Angel

All the snow is clear here and the roads are fine. I am just waiting for all of that snow to slid off of the shed’s tin roof onto the pad in front of the shed so I can plow it away. Surprise

Have a good night.

Welcome back Ryan glad to see your back. Welcome

Not a lot going on today. Basically a slow day at work. decided I need to add some cross braces to my legs to ensure they don't slip. The table is strong as I have been on top of it walking ( the 4' x 16' section thats presently built) and I'm not lite at all ( 270 LB's ) so its strong as I didn't feel it giving at all but guess because of using basically 3/4" plywood as table top helps. When getting this going my mind runs about 100 MPH on things I can do to add to the realism to the layout scenery. I can see how this is going to be a long slow drawn out process and why they say a layout is never really finished lol. I have a single stall engine house coming so thinking of spray painting a lite tan where its going to sit ( the green carpet I have there) so it looks warn and dried out and add some old couplers and wheels and axles I have to the area and I have a cheap older engine 2037 which really needs work but not really worth it so may put it in there and add some rust color to the front of it where it will be sticking out and more or less make it look like an abandon engine house and engine. Has no doors so thinking of making a pair to put on it and have them like handing off and wore out.

Need to clean up the Train table ( track ect ) so the guys coming Tuesday don't have to try and step between stuff. Need to have the whole area clear for them to work. Also either have to hang plastic or pack all the trains up ( packing isn't going to happen) still need to take the NYC set down off the shelf layout and put somewhere. So friday going to be a busy day as need to pull everything out from under it to reinforce the legs as stated above.

Not much else going on tonight.

Hhmmm, In-n-Out Burger per chance ????? Dinner We were going to go last nite but at the last minute we opted for some Fish-n-Chips. Kinda blew right thru the sodium limit so today has been really limiting on the menu. Sigh

Didn't get anything done in the yard, to much wind. But I was able to get some clean-up and repacking in the trainroom, probably won't last long. Ashamed On the bright side though I am already packed for Friday at the museum.

Packing it in a bit early tonight. I sometimes get to the point where my joints feel like they're burning. I'm at that point now. It usually only lasts a few hours but it has been known to last for days. The docs have no idea what causes it. Hopefully a good nights sleep, or even a few hours of sleep will be enough. See y'all tomorrow.

Got a photo of an HO Lionel metal flat car with a coil load.

Good evening all,

Whew, the last two days have been busy at work.  Lab imports sandwiched around a division meeting yesterday made the day a grinder.  Today was worse.  45 MPH drive into work avoiding slick spots was followed by a conference call to discuss loading an upgrade followed by an afternoon session of doing the upgrade as everyone was available TODAY followed by a draining drive home nursing a quarter tank of gas.  No soccer as school was closed and Arrow was a repeat.  Things might be better with daughter but who knows for sure.  Long days and long nights and no rest for the wicked.  Snow really creates a vacuum now.  Welcome back, Ryan.  I think all are back who have left recently, which is good.  Now if we can get Dennis W. to show up more frequently.....  TBIL and I can drive (nothing can go wrong there....)   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evening all,

It was a slick morning but all melted by the drive home.  Its in the 30s now.

Laz - I've used the H2O paint a few times and it is OK.  Not sure how it holds up.  I'm not a big fan of the water based polyurathane finishes.

Cleaned up the garage some and got a bunch to go to the recycle.  Now time for some reading and off to bed.

Good night and may God bless

We actually faired pretty good. The worst part was waking up and finding our road untouched and @ 4 inches on the ground. It warmed up pretty quick and we only ended up with @ 7 inches - but it was HEAVY snow. The thrower did its job keeping me from breaking my back.

Will try to check in tomorrow...

BTW - got my badge for York! Thumbs Up

Got some good news.... Matthew is being admitted to daycare 1 day early! This means he will start on 3/18, the day after my birthday, and the last day TheQ has off from work - and the day I took off to 'relax' now it certainly will be relaxing - we plan on sleeping all day. Laugh

Hi gang!

I got an email from the Cheif yesterday. Yes, the rumors of my return to the hobby are true. However because of the time I have been spending on layout construction, my forum time is limited. I have a topic running on that "other" forum that will bring you up to date on my six year absence and the new progress.

There is a new helix going up.

I'll check back here from time to time.

Have fun,

Konbanwa,

I suppose the warmer weather is here to stay.  We hit the mid-60s again today and this weekend we’ll see highs near 80.  For me, it’s too early to be this warm, but I suppose I’ll survive.  At least the older boy and I can start playing baseball sooner.

Welcome back Ryan.  I’m glad things are getting better and that you didn’t stay away too long.

Hi Elliot, it’s nice to meet you.

Doug – Thanks for posting all the great photos.

Jack, Commonsense triumphs again. Thinking back to my youth that's the way it was always done but now anytime something happens, regardless of the degree of severity, it's summons the counselers. Reminds me of that old song "Send in the Clowns".

Doug......I believe that in times of crisis children need a calming perspective as best they can understand it when tragedy or loss strikes.  They need that perspective from someone whom they know intimately, trust, and look to daily for guidance.

The letters after one's name (counsellors) don't mean squat to them.  I think what many parents don't fully grasp is the power of simplicity and honesty they hold in their hand.  Sometimes we get to feeling overwhelmed ourselves, thinking rather that a professional might do a better job with the little ones.  This may be true to a certain extent.  I have always believed that using all of ones' resources to overcome a setback of any kind and asking for help when needed is valuable, especially so in child rearing.

Many (parents) try to tough things out on their own, forging ahead by trial and error when a better path, but a simple one, is at their disposal.  So I do think at times second opinions and guidance do have high value in parenting.  I know I look back and think of all of the things I could have done better with parenting had I accepted the fact that I had no experience and was out of my element.  I should have sought some pearls of wisdom from my Mom and Dad.  Perhaps my ego got in the way.

But at the end of the day, when the counsellors are gone, it's just Mom and Dad and family that is the glue that puts things back together to restore a sense of stability, normalcy, peace, and hope in the child's mind.

Pam and I are still working on the monsters under the bed with the 9 year old granddaughter, but my gut tells me she is playing us just to stay up later. Laugh

Good morning.

We got our FIRST plowable snow of the season yesterday

It was perfect plowing snow, not too dry, not too wet.  The kind that kinda rolls up and slides right off the end of the plow.  Too bad we didnt get more. I am guessing about 6 inches.

I decided to take the day off yeaterday in lue of the snow.  I come into town this AM and there is hardly ANY (I came in early to plow the parking lot here.)  LOL  they might have got 2 inches in town here...... oopppssss

Judging from the tracks in the minor amount of snow that was here, it doesnt look like I missed much anyway.

It was nice to take a day off in the middle of the week, though

LAZ, I was very disapointed in the water based hobby paints. they ARE good for weathering as they are kinda transparent.   Basecoats? NO  And i see its getting harder to find oil based hobby paint. I have been doing what Jeffery does, and getting spray bombs from homedepot, and spaying out what i need into little cups.   and its ALOT cheaper!

CNW nice pitcure.  I never cared for that train, untill the other week when MTH finally shipped there sets.  My buddy got one, and now I want one. nice looking trains.

My big recycling documentry with the Senator aired the other day, I have a link to it, but will have to dig it up later to post it.

Gee I can't say I have had to shovel Snow in the last 20 years or so must be something about where I live bad elbows, possible heart attack makes me think I'm actually smart moving down here as it looks like its more healthy for me than up there. Now a generator I for see in the future my self as no power is not fun.

Good morning. I think. It's 36° with 88% humidity. The high will be 65°.

I feel no better than I did last night. My joints are burning and hurt every time I move. I think I'll just do a whole bunch of nothing today. Excuse me while I fall apart right here.

Hi GUYZ,

CHUCK nya nya nya YOU MISSED US!!!!!!!  No SNO HI O!!!!  I'll take it.  FIFE got it down in WV.  Got run and PT done tis morning.  Now take MINNIE for her 5 miler.  I made up guard rails for layout yesterday.  I soldered brass weilding rods with up right every 12 scaled feet.  Looks pretty good.  I made 3 lengths of about 3 feet per length, gotta paint them now.  Maybe a little work on that hill section today?

DOUGDAGRUMP, you had me laughing with those manly things on the video.

ELLIOT, good job on the progress of that HUMONGUS layout.  I wish I lived closed.

ROY wtach that salt.

FISH,and RYAN,  I'm only using the H2O paint on the layout for my foam mountains.  Low smell and the oil base paints causes the foam to disentirgrate.  I used them in school with the kidos and seem to work good on wood.

Stay frosty my friends,
