Good morning all!  I've been out of pocket for a couple of days and get on the computer and Whoa, I have some catching up to do.  For now just want to say thanks to RockIsland52 and BANKS for the welcome and to also welcome Prarietype to the POT.

Prarietype, I myself am new to the POT.  While your arrival does not make me an old-head, it does officially makes you the "new guy"!  I believe I saw that you're from the Kansas City area.  I'm in Saint Joseph, MO.  It seems MO is pretty well represented on the POT.  That has got to be a good thing.

In quickly purusing the most recent post I saw where someone on the POT picked up a 726, that is very cool.  Over the years I have picked up a few Lionel postwar locomotives, but never a 726.  Always thought the 726 was kinda special.  Congratulations!

Also always liked the old 2020 with the Atomic motor and "funny shaped bulb" for a smoke unit.  Never picked one of those up either because at one point I became interested in the modern equipment.  Still though if I ever come across the right locomotive at the right price I just might decide "I gotta have it"!

I'm going to go get busy working on the layout for a little while this morning.  Had a couple of set backs to include a burnt-out switch that I had to replace.  I'm not sure what caused the switch to burn out and have been trying to figure it out.  I had been making some good progress, but then had to stop to focus on the switch.  Oh boy, I get to use the Bang Head symbol.  Actually, that felt kinda good, I'm going to do it again.  Bang Head

I'll get caught up on the posts and be back.  Hope everyone has a good day!  Bo Smile

Hi GUYZ,

29 here and nice day getting to 38.  Yesterday went out with the Smoke Pole and at 330 in the afternoon BRO had 6 fat does 60 yards away and had a perfect shot but when he pulled trigger nothing happened but a click.  He saw spark off the frizzen but no sparks went in the pan.  Frustrating!  But fun, we had a good laugh about it.  Later I made a push for him and push 4 more does out in field but to far.  Oh well got another week yet.

CHARLIE, Well done with the ETD.  Good job!

Stay frosty my friends,

ANJdevil, I am about 5 miles from Boiling Springs, If I were to ever move in to "town" Boiling Springs would be the place,. absolutely a wonderful laid back little town.   Even they crappy section is NICE..  lol

Those houses by the lake are absolutely beautiful

One more thing on my multi post customer rant,  I just want to state, I am in now way better than any one else. nor do i feel that i am above anyone else. no one has insinuated that i thought that I was, but the little voice in my head said i should clear this up....

gonna run out for some wings, then back to plastering

Aloha and happy sabbath. Not even dressed this morning as I got sucked into building an electric launcher for paper airplanes with the youngest. Without the instructions. But toy train experience came to the fore and  it now is launching airplanes all over the house. I do client or in my case student services too - I look at it as a puzzle - to try to get to their issue from their perspective. Sometimes they are so discombobulated, all they want is someone to listen. Then ask they for the moon. Big Smile

Rich, you must be happy to NHL lockout is over My kids certainly are...
Charlie, great job with the ETD. I have one of those working ETD trucks from MTH which I have done all sorts of things with - attaching it to different cars.

Well I was feeling a little better around noon, I thought. My nephew was doing some work outside moving some vehicles around and it was evident mine was getting in the way. I came up with this bright idea that I'd move it. Well thinking of it and getting out there to do it are two different things. Going out the door I stumbled on the top step and ended up falling down the steps. Getting up into the van, well I missed the foot well TWICE! Managed to get it moved without wiping out anything, I think. Went to get out and missed the foot well AGAIN, hit my butt in the bottom of the foot well and hit my head against the door. My nephew sees what's going on and helps me back to the trailer. I managed to get back inside without doing further damage. Then it occurred to me I could have just told him he could move the van. See how clear I'm thinking today? But I put two locos on the track today. After knocking them over that is. Maybe I should go back to bed before I do something really stupid.

Afternoon all!

Been out of comission last few days. The crud came late last week and then yesterday it was gone - and then late last night I come down with chills and the shakes. Running just under 101 which is a very high fever for me. I have not had a fever since I can remember. No stomach issues - just upper respiratory and incessnant coughing so I do not think it is the flu. Oh well.

Watching Fifers Ravens slug through it with the Colts.

ETD=End of train device.

37 degrees, overcast with a lite mist. The train show was fun. I didn't buy anything but the trains ran good and we had nice chats with train friends. No pile ups but 2 runaways. One did roll over on the curve. Kinda like my Loop-D-loops. It's too early for banilla but It will be ready for the guys..S.J.

Tomorrow, I promised the wife, I'd start patching the drywall in prep for paint.  theres the spot I fell through the ceiling, we took on some water when I put the 2nd floor on, and we have a TON of "Nail Pops" (they come from heating with a wood stove, the stove dries the studs out faster than a regular furnace, so they shrink, causing the nails to pop)  and few seams that were just bad from the start.

Night

Ryan

WRC - More info on the falling through the ceiling. Some of us have done things similar. Makes good reading.

Lawson Farms, If you insist.

9 years ago, when we bought the house (well,we bought the property, house was beat)   It had what they call a Gambrell roof (Like a barn) the second floor was finished, but I couldnt stand up even in the center.  so we agreed that "in the future we would remove the roof, and add a regular second floor., but in the mean time we  rehabed the first floor (complete gut out)

so back to the ceiling..... the old second floor had what I call gravity vents for the heat to rise up.  When we re did the first floor I covered them over when we drywalled the ceilings.

Soooo when the time came to rip the old roof off, I should have covered those things with plywood...

And next thing you know..... I was down stairs in the living room, on the sofa, thank god.......

and of course it was January and that hole was like a cold air blast furnace. so I nailed a piece of insulation board over it  and that was like 5 or 6 years a go.........

did I mention less than 2 weeks before the indecent, I had just painted the living room ceiling? Bang Head

Ryan

Ps got er all patched in today, another coat on every thing, hope to sand on Friday night

WOW, what a talkative bunch.  Skimmed the many pages since I have been gone.  Was a real sick guy Friday night and Saturday.  Better today but I can guess I have pnuemonia. Sad

Well, glad to "see" more new faces on the Pot.  Tired of fighting those same old dried up Yanks. Whistling

Charlie, great job one the ETD.  Send me an email.  Got some questions.  Oh, when I first saw the ETD, had to take a second look.  Glad it had the "T" in it.  Knew you were too young for the other. Embarrassed

Jack, right on the NS but also CN runs with NS.  If they do not have NS or CN, they are all short lines. Wink

Since no controversy while I was gone.  Thought I would give you some news the news media would not.

Did you know.....
• A 1997 high school shooting in Pearl, Miss., was halted by the school's vice principal after he retrieved the Colt .45 he kept in his truck.
• A 1998 middle school shooting ended when a man living next door heard gunfire and apprehended the shooter with his shotgun.
• A 2002 terrorist attack at an Israeli school was quickly stopped by an armed teacher and a school guard.
• A 2002 law school shooting in Grundy, Va., came to an abrupt conclusion when students carrying firearms confronted the shooter.
• A 2007 mall shooting in Ogden, Utah, ended when an armed off-duty police officer intervened.
• A 2009 workplace shooting in Houston, Texas, was halted by two coworkers who carried concealed handguns.
• A 2012 church shooting in Aurora, Colo., was stopped by a member of the congregation carrying a gun.
• At the recent mall shooting in Portland, Ore., the gunman took his own life minutes after being confronted by a shopper carrying a concealed weapon.
2,500 times last year alone legal gun owners stopped violent crime when confronted with it long before any police assistance ... Of course, you probably didn't know any of this because mainstream media doesn't find it worth reporting. It's not sensational enough and doesn't fit with their agenda. What's insane is people who think removing rights from responsible people will somehow keep them safe.

Now I've stired the Pot.  Hope all the sick are on the mend.

BTW: since deer season has been out, been seeing during the daylight numerous deer running and eating in the fields everywhere. Bang Head

8n,

I think that UP 4-6-2 was a separate sale item in '95.  From what I remember, the only set headed by a 4-6-2 for the year had Lionel Lines markings.  I have the '95 catalog around here somewhere, and I'll report back on it asap.

Bo,

I was the one that got the 726.  Will be standing by the mailbox waiting.Smile

Here's the 726 I got.  Looks clean with just the left marker looking slightly bent.

Will likely be parting a 2055 soon.  Thing's causing too much stress/anger right now.

Well the house is now much more quiet with the daughter and grand daughter gone. Cat has come out of hiding and is on the sofa in front of the fire place.

I only had to replace the battery in her car and add 3 cans of R134A to the HVAC system this time to get her car back in safe road shape.Tongue Tied Good thing she paid for the stuff. All I had to do was the work.

Funny but Lexi has two way she reacts. One when her mom is around and another with just me. The daughter claims she will not take a nap????

She needed a nap yesterday at about 1:30 PM and WOW did she have a FIT. Screaming and yelling and just going nuts. So what does the daughter do. Goes in the bedroom and gets her out. Super Angry . I tell her and wifey to go to the store. They sneek out like something terrible is going to happen, I show the munchkin they are leaving, she waves goodby from the living room window, I say ,,you know you need to take a nap,,, she said, okay, walks into the bedroom and climes up on the bed and falls asleep without a peep. Go figure.  Confused  So today I sent the daughter to get lunch and Lexi went down without a problem.

Good info Chief but those who care to know, already do. I see someone has changed SPF to Sunday Photos. Whistling Gets top billing that way to. Wink Take care of that pnuemonia. Don't you get the shot for that?

Nice score JimmyT. All of this talk on these Berks this week has got me thinking I am missing out on something. No money for that right now. I am pushing ahead for more table right now. Going to pick up more wall paint tomorrow and maybe start on the benchwork next weekend. I should get my replacement post war power trucks tomorrow for the F3. Yes USPS tracking shows them at the local PO.

I have been feeling like the crud in coming on. Lots of sinus flow and kind of run down. Black Eye

Chief, sorry to hear about the pneumonia.  That is nothing to fool around with.  Take care of yourself and get over it soon.

Went to TTOS train meet today and only picked up one more plastic Lionel girder bridge that I needed for a project.  There seemed to be some good buys for any one in the market like a MTH Southern F unit A-B-A set for $260.  I bought the same set in York when it first came out and paid $600.  It was proto 1 though so I guess that stuff doesn't bring much anymore.

We are having a little light rain today and it is cool here.

Roy, get well soon.

Prayers for all of the  rest of you walking wounded to get better soon.

later,

Good Evening From the Jersey Shore!

We had a dusting of snow this morning. It warmed up, now it is almost gone and it is down to 28. The wood stove is doing it's job. House is 72 and the furnace has not run all day.

Charlie: Nice job on the ETD. Thumbs Up

RT: Get well and you did do good on the 736.

Roy: Get well and hope to see you at York in April.

Brutus: I agree with Fife, Go Fish. It makes a great bond with father and son.

Probe, Jim, congrats on the 726!

Chief: Get well, Pnenuma is nothing to fool with. I have been there.

Everybody, Merry Little Christmas!

Good evening all,

It was cloudy and cool in SE Indiana.  Basically rested from Saturday.  Did some reading.  As far as why the Corvair was selected for Nader's venom, I suppose it was due to the bug's popularity and the lack of enthusiasm by GM for the Corvair.  Attacking the bug would have gotten him ignored and it was a German firm.  I think he just wanted to go after large American corporations, but that is just my opinion.  Ironically GM had fixed the Corvair long before the book came out.  He also attacked tailfins later in the book as well, but they were also long gone by the time the book appeared.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Off to bed.  Been watching the Jesse Stone series on Halmark Movie Channel.  Best example on how to be a Police Chief and how not to be a Town Council.  What do you expect from a small town in MA [just for Jack]. Wink

KEV, had the shot.  I get this at least once a year for the past 8 or 9 years.  Maybe 10.  Quit counting.  Way Dr. lets me keep a small dose of Leviquine at home to get started if I get sick while she is not open [like weekends and holidays].  Use to be real important when I use to fly to Bass Pro and Cabela's.  I worked Baltimore Bass Pro one weekend with a 102 temp.  That was the start of her giving me extra Leviquine.  Problem is, too much at one time makes my joints begin the ache.  Why I had to quit for about  5 days.  During that time, it caught up with me.
BTW: this thing switched to bold type on its on. Bang Head

Hello all

Still collecting photons tonight (collecting Jack, not shooting them). Wind is picking up though in advance of a storm front that will move thru tomorrow.

JimT - nice find on the Berk!

RT - nice set you have there!

Charlie - thanks for the video on SPF. Really like that ATSF Berk(?). A nice NS coal drag for the Chief. I did see a lot of Michigan road names though. Michigan railroads,  represented on a Michigan club layout, in a Michigan city, in Michigan,...I don't know...could be construed as an advertisementSmile, Wink & Grin

Mike - the early Corvairs did handle different from conventional cars. However a couple of later studies proved that they were no more 'unsafe' than other vehicles being marketed at the same time. GM recommended running a lower front tire pressure, but few did this as they were used to running the same pressure all the way round. They made a front sway bar standard in '63 and was an option earlier. This was done likely to keep costs down as the Corvair had ended up being more expensive to produce than GM had hoped due to all the R&D put into it. In '65 they completely redesigned the rear suspension w/ the new body style.  Ralph Nader did put out a book attacking the VW, 'Small On Safety', but it never went very far. The VW also had only a whopping 50 or 60 HP to push it around. An introductory Corvair had twice the HP a beetle did. This means if driven incorrectly you can get into more trouble even faster. The Corvair actually ended up filling a sports sedan niche, hence the Monza, Corsa, and Spyder models. While Nader's negative PR didn't help, what really killed the Corvair was the pony car and cheap horsepower. In '64 Ford brought out the Mustang, which for all intents and purposes, was simply a restyled, warm-over Falcon. But w/ the 289 it went fast in a straight line, leaving braking and handling somewhat longing. But it cost only a few hundred more than a comparable Corvair. GM responded to the success of the Mustang w/ the Camaro in '67. Production of the Corvair was severely reduced after that finally being dropped in '69. Not ending up as an ecomomy car and then w/ sports sedan design being pursued by the pony car craze, the Corvair ceased to fill a purpose. And there was disagreement inside GM over what was a very revolutionary line for them.  Of course then w/ the oil crunch in the early 70's, it might be said that dropping a smaller, better mileage car line could be seen as a mistake, especially when you consider some of the 'quality' vehicles which were introduced in the 1970's as a result of the increase in price of gas. More than you ever wanted to know, I'm sure.

'New to me' transformers are on their way to Tucson and should be in when I get back on Wed.

Konbanwa,

It was a nice, cold day today.  The workday flew by as I was busy with paperwork and meetings.  Unfortunately, I was only able to watch one quarter of the playoff games, but at least it was the 4th quarter of the Seahawks-Redskins game.  I’m sure Fife is pleased with the Ravens’ performance today.  The wife made some mahi-mahi, steamed broccoli, and baked potatoes for dinner tonight.  It was a healthy and delicious meal.  The Lionel Santa’s Flyer three-dome peppermint tanker I won on eBay arrived today.  That gives me all three freight cars from that set; I think they’re pretty neat cars, especially the music playing boxcar.  I’m going to relax for a while with the kids this evening and then I’ll do some reading for school.

Jack – That wouldn’t surprise me with this bunch.  At least if that did happen, the set would be taken care of.

RT – I hope you’re feeling better.

Jeffrey – I’m glad nothing more serious happened.  Hopefully knocking your head on the van door put some common sense into it. Laugh

Charlie – Thanks for posting another great video.

Get well Chief.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a cloudy 34 degrees. Snow is melting. Going up to 44 today with no rain.

Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of chores to do and some paperwork. Wife is running errands. Lunch and a nap will be good.

I spent a couple of hours in the train room, yesterday, working on the upper loop. I have a bad switch and had to take up a lot of track. Got the switch out and now I have to install the new one. This will take a while.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Hi GUYZ,

CHUCK, pace yourself on that track project.  Good luck with the switch.

HUDSONJOHN, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you!  You Greek Orthodox?  Grandma on DADs Side was.

Prayers for those with ailes.

Stay frosty my friends,

Mornin' Fellas

Well I spent the day yesterday with Christina while TheQ, BiL, and BiL's friend (in my stead) went to the Ravens game. I honestly had zero, less than zero if that is possible, desire to attend. All I can say is I don't know how stay at home parents, or daycare workers, do it... I was EXHAUSTED by the time TheQ got home, I almost fell asleep 2 or 3 times while watching Christina. But I had a blast with her!

While Christina was napping yesterday I finally had time to investigate why TheQ's vanity drain wasn't draining... all I can say is if any one knows a plumber you should ask them how in the hecht they can do their job! That was DISGUSTING!!!!! There was so much hair in the drain, and other stuff that congeeled into this putrid clump of nastiness that it filled the entire down tube below the drain plug and half of the trap! Liquid Plumber was no match for this clog!!!

BUT the evening made the whole day worth while... When TheQ got home we packed up and headed to run a few ehrands. Got her car gassed up and through a car wash, made a deposit at the ATM, then went to Wegman's for groceries. The Wegman's near us has a suspended train over the dairy area and when Christina saw it... WOW!!!! She kept saying 'Choo Choo', 'Mama! Choo Choo!' At one point she asked me to 'uppie' which means she wants to be held, and if being held she wants down. Well as soon as her little feet hit the floor it was hitailing it BACK to the Choo Choo. Big Smile The entire way home 'Mama! Choo Choo! Choo Choo Choo Choo Choo Choo Choo!' TheQ's response 'great now Christina is going to want to go to Wegman's all the time' Big Smile
