Rich,

You can leave IE installed and just use Firefox.  Erasing IE shouldn't be a problem though.  I used to have IE, Chrome, and Firefox installed on my laptop and used each of them for different things.

Kev,

Somehow I went all season with no pileups.Hmm  Given how tight things were, I am not sure how that happened.

SJ,

I know what you mean about AF being touchy.  I polish all metal wheels and contact springs until they shine, and that really seems to help.

Back from Chamber dinner.  Free meal but what a pain.  You have to know our Chamber.  All party and no work.

The Box is getting a new Trane mini-split heat pump tomorrow morning.  Yes, the old one that came with the Box is a junky off brand thing.  Had to put a heat gun on it the other morning to keep it from freezing up.  Went out at 10:30 after it had warmed up and it was in defrost.  The copper lines and wiring are all new.  So my buddy is just taking up the old compressor and putting down the new.  Taking out the wall unit and putting in the new.  Charge her up and away it goes.  BTW: it is only a 1 ton [wasn't keeping the heat up and running all the time] and the specs call for a 1.5 ton [which he is installing].  Also we found a leak in the outside unit.  Also will have a warranty.

Chuck,

The second great raid has started.  I'm at Fort Pitt before I head south to the land of the wicked rebel from Roseyville.  I'll keep you posted.

Tomorrow more planning for the great raid.  Do you think the Chief is nervous?  Whistling

My Chief and Captain are all on allert.  If he escapes this time, their heads are on the "chopping block".  I went one step farther.  I issued an executive order [if the Pres can do it, so can I, probably more legal than his Whistling].  Outlawed all S&ME trucks and engineers in Town Limits.  Immediate arrest.

Now for popcorn and diet ginger ale.

I left the three inches of snow from yesterday morning laying on the driveway and walks, stairs, and the deck.  I was depending on you guys from points West coming to the rescue, and you delivered.  The temps hit 38 yesterday, stayed around there overnight, and mid 50s are on tap for today and tomorrow.

LV - "and you can probably guess what it is about."  No what?  No just kidding.  Can you tell us something about what you are planning to put together.  I hope you'll consider sharing the finished video with us.  Smile

Good morning.

More rain coming this afternoon. Man, Towanda is going to be a swamp by the time we start drying out.

Bo. It is an introduction type of video, in which we make a video introducing ourselves to the class. We talk about interests, where we live, siblings, etc. Could be anything as long as it does what  it's supposed to do, which is introduce us.

As far as sharing it, I'll try to do what I can, but since it is a school project and not a project I'm doing for the sheer fun of it, I'm not sure if I'll be able to.

Hello all

Rainy 53 this AM. 60 is predicted before the nasty weather hits.............

8N  I've seen articles in CTT about using cold bluing for handrails, trucks etc. Seemed to work well. I've used it on guns but never trains. Make sure all the oil is off with a solvent and then the more you polish the better the blue will take.

Best get back to the SS Fund

Good morning all,

It is rainy with temps dropping in SE Indiana today.  Will play some indoor soccer with high school kids tonight.  Did very little last night.  Must be the season.  Feel totally inert.  TBIL but someone else will have to drive tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.  One piece of good news is that we will not be seeing Ashley Judd's face at the race tracks this year as she and Mr. Judd are splitting up.

Keep on training,

Not much going on today just a slow and relaxing day for me. Talk to you all later.

Jack if my wife saw Jimmy's layout her first comment would be look at all those loose wires is it safe? then you could see like 2 big transformers and she would go I bet when he runs them all the electric meter is going like a fan lol

Good morning. It's 53° with 53% humidity. It'll be cloudy and cooler today with a high of 55°.

We have a wind warning today with NW winds 20-25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Anybody on the lake today has to be a nut! The white caps are rolling!

Nothing in particular planned for today. I may do some morfe work on the layout later. With the wind the way it is there's a possibility of the power going out and I don't want to be in the middle of a project step when it does. Just better to sit back and ride it out.

Aloha. I was somehow off my game in class last night. Didn't feel I did them right. I'll have to make up to my students next week. Rained all night and raining today. Yay!  The more the merrier. Really needed. Cooler than yesterday - the hammers coming to you folks at points east. Supposed to be single digits tomorrow. Dark Blue Sea was a great choice for a declarative poem, Dougda.

8n,
that bluing sounds like a good idea. I looked it up and it seems others have tried it with success.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Paradise Taxachusetts,

FURNITURE WAR, DAY 74.  The RI52 saga with the internet furniture company continues.  Since no refund came despite my demand polite request and the company's January 7 e-mailed promise to immediately refund my $$$, no refund came.

So I disputed the charge with my bank January 14 and was issued an immediate credit in full by my bank (within an hour it posted!!!); and then they went after the knuckleheads.

On January 22 the furniture company's credit also hit my bank account.  It is now 8 days later and the bank's credit still has not been reversed......so I am $$$ ahead for the time being.

I have two choices, now that I am awash in someone else's cash.  The first is to call my bank and tell them I owe them, the bank, the money back.  But the second option sounds like more fun:  quickly close out my account and take all of you guys out for a few Drinks and Beer on me.

I will patiently wait for your sage counsel on the matter and follow the decision of the majority here on the POT.  Who says one can't get a unanimous concensus on something? Laugh

Jack

PS:  the severe downside in all of this is another round of being consulted dragged around in tow, furniture shopping with the wife. Bang HeadBang HeadBang Head

Good Morning All, woke up this morning with perhaps an inch of snow and ice.   It's about 27 with an expected high of 27.   Not much melting is going to go on here for at least a couple of days. Hmm It's suppose to get into the 40's over the weekend.  Can I procrastinate that long? Confused

LV - I was thinking perhaps you were planning to shot a video about your trains and/or the hobby.  It sounds like although it is going to be an introduction piece, your trains may at least get a mention.  I have shot a few short videos, some not short enough Zzz, and have found it is not as easy as it looks to make a good video.  It's cool that you get to work at making a video as part of your school work.  I'm sure you'll do a great job.  Thumbs Up Have fun with it.

Ryan - sorry about the dinner.  If you hadn't said that they didn't have horseradish, I would have suggested that perhaps that was why you weren't feeling so well this morning. Smile, Wink & Grin  Sorry your feeling under the weather.  It's ketchup for me.  Won't hardly eat steak without it.  When I was young and working on a cattle ranch in Wyoming one summer, the other hands and those from surrounding ranches when we would occasionally get together, would really get on me for using ketchup.  It was their thinking that anything put on good beef only spoiled it.  Frankly, I think some of them actually thought cooking it had the same result.  They tended to like their steaks very much on the rare side. Tongue Tied

Chuck - What museum do you I volunteer/work at?  Sounds like it's a neat experience.

blownout cylinder -  hope the news from the additional tests is all good.

It's nasty outside so planning to stay in.  I can afford to procrastinate for at least a day!  Wink Have a good day and I hope all those not feeling so well will feel better soon!  Bo Smile

Bo another fav of mine on steak is worstershire (SP) sauce, sometimes mixed with ketchup.  I like em rare my self, but to each his own. I had prime rib last night and that cut and hoseradish go hand in hand.  I really wanted a Filet but the axed it from the menu.   (and BTW this was our once a month nice dinner)

Hoseradish and garlic are two of my favorite seasonings (?) not sure what they are?

theres a place in town here that has these garlic hot wing smothered in minced garlic.   you can taste it for two days after eating them. Dinner

any way, i guess I should get some work done

Good Morning!

Took the dynamic duo for their walk this morning. They start off as angels and then decide to mess with one another. The cat likes disappearing and then sneak up on the dog and swat at him with no claws. Like they say, Labs like to imitate so now he decides he will swat at the cat like a cat does before she gets to him. He surprised her this morning. She stopped dead in her tracks and just walked along side of him for most of the walk.

Dougdagrump: I wish that Atlas still made the steel rails. Still thinking and deciding. The Hobby Shop owner told me that if I order all of my track at once and have it dropped shipped he can save me big. I am considering Atlas and Gargraves. I used to use Copper tires until my friend changed tire wholesellers. His new guy does not handle Cooper.

SJ: Good News on the procedure. Remember, Lemon Ice Cream at York in April.

Jon: Home at last.

Chief: Nothing wrong with your town's Chamber.

Blown Out: Prayers that it works out ok. I agree with Jack about being covered at work. Been there!

RIJack: What time do you want to meet for Drinks and Beer?

Ryan: Good luck with the crud. Mine has been coming and going also.

Prayers for all in need!

Have a Great Day!

Kev that is why I don't use theres I use ieSpell checker a lot better. ( http://www.iespell.com ) haven't lost a post using it Big Smile

Jack I once had a credit card from a department store send me a bill to a account I closed like 2 years before I contacted them and told them if it was used 1 you all should of caught it as it was closed 2 years ago and I need to file a fraud report if this has been used and you all let it go well about a week later I got a letter saying it was a mistake on there end as the account that it was to be charged to some one mistyped the account number it has been removed then I get a statement for the amount showing it as a credit to the plus that amount I waited a couple of months and seeing it didn't leave I request a check for the credit to my account so I got like $ 25 -$30 dollars because they didn't know what they where doing this was back around 1986

I must apologize to you gentlemen, and to the Chief too Whistling, for being somewhat MIA here since last Friday.

My wife and I spent most of last weekend running up to, at, and back from Maine (200 miles round trip each day) and competing in three sanctioned and judged canine obedience matches with our pup, Maximus.  We also volunteered to help the organizers with running the events.  Had to leave the house by O-dark thirty each morning and didn't get home until the sun was down.  A match is not an obedience trial in that it does not count toward an obedience title.......Maximus has 3 obedience titles and is shooting for his 4th (the Lord willing) this coming weekend in Taunton MA.

I would bet more than half of the handler/dog teams that competed were far more experienced and titled than team RI52.  Nonetheless, "on any given Sunday".....  a relative novice to this stuff, Pam and Maximus ripped off three consecutive solid runs at the matches and nailed down a perfect score of 100/100 in one of them, a score not often seen.  The judge came up to Pam after her run and complimented her on the sheer beauty of their performance, the teamwork and cohesion between a handler and dog with exceptionally high drive and high energy.  The dog, not Pam  Smile, Wink & Grin  Now if only theory bears fruit

Why bother going through all of this if a match doesn't officially count for anything?

"Think" pre-season games in baseball or football.  So that the (off-leash) dog is exposed to the closest environment to the real thing.....the travel, the waiting, the competition trial ring, a strange new place, with (similarly large) crowds, new smells, chaotic distractions, inevitable delays, racket, dogs all over the place, etc. that you and your pup will experience "game day" at a trial.  The place was beyond packed!!!

The theory is that by performing in judged matches you and your pup will be relatively non-plussed the day of an actual trial, will perform when it counts when the pressure is present and the marbles ARE on the line.  You get to see what things you need to work on and, just as important, learn to control your own nervousness and frustrations which your dog immediately senses in you, on leash or off.

Dogs would make good poker players.  Any slight lack of confidence or concern in the handler is sensed by the pup and distracts the pup from the task at hand, no matter how much you train, no matter how well prepared you think you are.   A dog senses in you that something is seriously wrong, either with you or with the situation, and then tries to figure out what it is rather than focus on completing the required 14 or so obedience exercises exactly as practiced a zillion times, exactly as required.

Wish us luck and pray that "the right" Pam and Maximus show up this coming Saturday and Sunday.  Me?  The days of trials I am just the humble valet, the limo driver, the dog walker, the go-fer, a second set of eyes during warm-up, and the ringside psychologist of positive thinking.  Laugh

I wonder if I should also surreptiously slip Pam a Valium or some vodka in her lemonade before she goes on. Laugh

Good morning

New condensed post. From Microsoft Word

Yesterday it got to 66 and today it is 40 and will fall all day but the sun is out for now. The floods the weather guessers were talking about all day yesterday never came.  We did have rain but no floods for sure.

On the train front:   I have been looking at options for the layout addition. I am just going to take it slow and easy. I may try my hand at some landscaping under the bridges and maybe a small tunnel.

Prayers for BOC’s test results. Angel

Jack, Option # 2 sounds like fun,,,,,,Mischief,,,,,,,, but you had better do the RIGHT thing because you are the beacon of truth and justice, right and wrong for those of us here on the forum.  Angel   Laugh

Buckeye,,,,, Yes

I am heating up some leftover chili for lunch. Hoping it will burn the crud out of my system.

Going to make London Broils for dinner later.

RT.......my wife's theory is that safety around the home is MW, men's work.  She wouldn't give all of those wires and transformers and ozone smells a second thought.  The spectre of what JimmyT's trains might cost would immediately flip her brain into a financial defensive mode, with her wondering if her shoe and handbag budget might be in jeopardy......as if she was budget-minded about such matters. Bang Head

So I wacked JimmyT's email address from our email address file, put a new passcode on my POT access, and did likewise on my cell phone.  I can't have her calling him up and telling him to knock it off with the train videos already.  Jimmy, if your caller ID shows an incoming with a 978 area code, don't answer it!!!!  Laugh
