BOC I hope you didn't sneeze on your computer, we don't want cold germs.
It's 49 going near 70 today. I have an MD appointment at 10:30 so I guess I better pack a lunch to eat while I'm waiting. A chat with Charlie and Brutus last night. C is coming over Saturday for a short visit before we go to Norm's. I can't spell his last name so Maybe C or B will do it for me. A surprise birthday party this evening so I got things to do. I don't really like surprise parties, would rather look forward to seeing my friends. Yes Chief both of them....S.J.

Good morning. It's 69° with 97% humidity. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 88°.Well as far as the color selection for the silos goes I still haven't made up my mind. So far there's been at least one vote each color. There was even a vote for the color (silver bells) on the test piece. It's a grayish color like concrete. So far at two votes each the favorites seem to be #1 (far left) stone gray and #4 the grayish brown.1 Stone gray ******* (far left)2 Yellow *3 Dark green *4 Light brown ***5 Dark smoke gray * (far right)6 Silver bells (test color) *Today I'll be rough sanding the silos to get them ready for painting. I sanded a couple last night and I like the look of them. I'm using a P150 sanding cloth. I'll also hit them with the sanding drum on the Dremel. I used that on the test piece yesterday and it had a somewhat rough texture like old concrete. After all I don't want it looking brand new. And I still have to pick a color.

Good Morning!
DJ, I can't imagine what you and your family are going through. Needless to say I'm just 1 more concerned person for the speedy recovery of Tyler, and well being of you and your family. Even though there is a flood of prayers from all of us, if we do nothing more than provide a little relief just by providing someone to "talk" too, we ALL want to help!
God Bless you and help you with the strength you need.
Don
Home for a few. Then another meeting. Came home to give the dogs a pee break.
Special prayers for Tyler.
sir james I A surprise birthday party this evening so I got things to do. I don't really like surprise parties, would rather look forward to seeing my friends. Yes Chief both of them....S.J.

Well I finished roughing up the silos and vacuumed the PVC dust off of them. I took them out outside and stood them open end down on the handle of my old gas grill so the remannts of tghe glue can drain out of them. I also sprayed them down with Krylon Matte Finish. That'll make them a bit easier to paint. I'll be using a 1/4" Testor's paint brush for that. The paint (so far looking to be the stone gray) is Valspar satin household latex.
Aloha. . Fall has fallen - the leaves are turning fast. Prayers for Tyler, DJ. Sounds like a thorough protocol. DonB, the kids love whenever anyone waves at them from a moving train. I'm going to the Illinois Railway Museum this weekend to ride some with my nieces. Glad I get to ride a train twice each day. Brutus, sounds like quite a project. Jeffrey, there are a host of concrete grain elevators around here. They're all 'concrete' colored - like a dirty off-white. I think Doug mentioned there's a nice Krylon color for it. Personally, I like the grain mills for some brewers that were made up like giant six-pack. Jack, remember the one on the Skyway into Chicago? I think it was Falstaf!

Good morning all,
Spanky, prayers for Tyler and your family. Looks like you have a good handle on it. We are all wishing you the best and praying for a good outcome.
Might have a get together tonight for trains and BS if I can round up the guys. One of my friends has just returned from a three week driving vacation back East. Be nice to see him again.
Don B., yes I have heard that dirty wheels/track etc. can cause resistance and arching but I would have a heck of a lot of wheels to clean and to keep clean.
Sleep safe tonight and don't worry about the squirrels getting your pecans. Chief is on duty with his Red Ryder air rifle or was it a pellet gun? Pecan fed squirrels might be good eating.
Another cooler day than usual today but going back up some for the rest of the week.
later,

HEY!
Festa Italia tonight and through the weekend...and yes I will be attending every night......
DJ - sounds about right. My Dad just did the same regimen as his lymph nodes swelled up. He is a kidney cancer survivor....Prayers for Tyler and the family. He's in great hands.
Jeff - I like the stone...just saying.
Jack - I refused to give up my muscle cars just for a ..... woman .... at least when the car complains, I can fix it. I did do a LOT of street racing back in the day. Especially when I had my Super Stock prepped Hemi Challenger....made a LOT of believers in that car....and the Princess will get ownership of the Road Runner when I "retire" from driving, and that, my friends, is a LONG WAY OFF!!!
HudsonJohn - I keep applying and I keep getting the moving on to more qualified applicants e-mails...BUT I keep applying.
Cool and cloudy right now, just finished raining. It's supposed to clear up later for the Festa!!
I didn't/couldn't do military service (I was in the CIvil Air Patrol for 5 years) but most of my family served. And I thank them and all that serve, daily. My small contribution is the PGR like Jon (the Honor Flight from Florida was VERY emotional) and my firefighting.

And an for those in need.

Chief the party's not for me but you are right about the age, 109 if I make it to next June. The Doc said I may need a pacemaker one day but all other test were normal. Good heart muscle, open arteries, 24 hour monitor had nothing wrong on it, EKG this morning was normal..S.J.
Well the poll is closed and the vote is in. Fourteen votes (not including mine, David's and my fathers) and seven of them are for the stone gray. So stone gray it will be. I'll start on the painting this evening. The color has no 'real' name other than mis-tint. I picked it up for a buck at Lowe's two years ago. Valspar satin latex house paint. Cheap stuff but when your budget is a shoestring frayed to a thread you learn not to be picky.
Fifepup was able to compound half of the paint transfer away. He felt lousy about the whole episode. I asked him if he did a Ricky Bobby afterwards...
Seemed to cheer him up.
DJ, Thinking about Tyler and your entire family. Prayers for all of you.

Hey all
DJ prayers for Tyler hope all starts to be better for the little guy.
Evening all not much going on at the moment. Just relaxing. Think it will be an early night as worked extra hard today. Shame the old man of the group has to out show the younger ones and not that much younger but they don't seem to keep up with me lol. And I'm about 85 Lbs over weight and there maybe 20 over if that. lol
Hope all having a good week hey you all for most of you anyway tomorrow is T.G.I.F. me I work the weekend then off.
Well time to go talk to you all tomorrow probably
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

Well that's one part of the operation done. The silos have been painted and have been sprayed with Matte Finish. I'm waiting for them to dry then I'll turn them and spray the other side.
Howdy,
Computer was down all day. Had to clean up some disks and make a few settings. Working good now.
Rained all day. I would like some sunshine.
Chuck
Silos are done for now. The next step will be to start designing the accompanying structures. These will be made of card stock for the most part.
Time for me to call it a night. You know what I've been up to so I won't bore you with details. See y'all tomorrow.
It's 57
The party for one of granny's sisters went well and we got home just after dark. No banilla for me tonight but we have enough for the thing ride..S.J.
Cloudy, drizzly 70's today.
Still soaking the MPC era Alco B unit shell. It has been in the Simple Green for about a week, and the paint is finally soft enough that I can scrape some off with a fingernail.
Ran the Hallows Eve equipment last night. The locomotive shucked a traction tire about half way around my test loop. I think it is kind of odd - that is a new locomotive that maybe has 15 minutes of run time.
All for now.
Good night. Need to hit the bed as up early to go down east to farms. Hope the last trip to get ready for deer season. Truck loaded.
Banks, tried to reply but the site would not come up [par for the course since new software]. Actually, I would think they do. It is really about 100 miles west of me. Good luck. They have just started one 4 miles from me in adjorning town. We would not let them build where they wanted in Roseyville. Made them mad. Poor choice of site. Sure they will come back when by-pass is finished. Then we will OK.
Sure has not been many posts today.
Sleep tight.
Extra prayers for Tyler for a quick cure and no more problems, and for you and your family Spanky! Continued prayers for our intentions and those in need.
Seemed like a very long day at work today - everyone is going crazy due to the end of fiscal year. As usual. Oh well!
Halloween General loco/tender showed up and they are NIB and very very mint, good deal
Had some good fun playing a sci fi game on xbox with my son tonight - he's so good at these games, but I can still keep up more or less. I tend to bog down in actually checking all the locations and looking for stuff, but that's part of the games I enjoy, solving the stories and finding all the fun stuff. Nice chat with SJ, but it's bed time now!
TARDIS is ready to fly - let's go!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good Evening Guys,
Had a fantastic day today, weather was cooperating a really nice moderate day. Spent the day driving the Goose. Had a lot of fun, really enjoy telling people its history. Usually most people are disappointed when they realize the steam engine is not running, but the Goose is. By the time I finish the history, thay are all pleased they "got to" ride the Goose. (Get lots of compliments).
As I only have to work three days this week, and looking forward to the reduced schedule, I go in today to find out one of the other guys quit. So no my schedule for next week is back up to 5 days. Maybe, just maybe it might settle back down to 4, I hope so. Also, found out that not only are all of the Windseeker rides closed across the nation, but the State has a hold on the one located at Knotts as well.
Checked in with my buddy Bob, this afternoon. (Status - 240 layout benchwork completed, next step to install Hemosote, (I recommended less costly Celotex), then carpeting. He and his wife were out looking at carpeting and at $12 to $14 a sq ft,, showed some concern over the resulting costs. I had recommended he contact Ross for pricing and availability for necessary switches and track. Today Bob asked if it would be feasible to integrate Fast Track, with Ross/Gargraves. (He has a huge inventory of fastrack.) I told him sure, and gave him a couple of suggestions. Bottom line I think I'm dealing with the wrong person, his wife is making ALL the decisions, and controlling the financial. Bob told me he would see what he could work out integrating the track types. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the layout ends up being significantly cut back. That would bo OK, I'm considering telling him, let me know when you have your track plan laid out, and I will come over and wire it. I think I have about as many hours as he does invested in it. But I sure would like to see him end up with something he likes.
Wife and I went over to craft store this evening, found some lights that I think will work great on buildings for Chrismas. They are having a 40% off sale on Sunday. So will have to go back. Only thing bough today was 3 coffins, going to put one in a pickup, and park next to the cemetary. Will have to find a home for the other two.
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow, and Special Prayers for Tyler.
Good Night and God Bless !
My thoughts and prayers go out to Tyler for a cure and quick recovery. Prayers for all those in need.
Morning. Gone to the woods. Rain and chilly weather coming in later tonight and tomorrow. Have a good one.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a damp and cloudy 50 degrees. Going up to 67 today with some sunshine.
Today is an easy day. I have some paperwork to do and the usual chores. I will have lunch and take a nap, later. Computer is working great.
Buckeye & LAZ...... TGIF
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Friday.
Good morning. It's 67°F with 99% humidity. Yeah, dry but wet at the same time. It'll be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. The high will be 88°F and feel like 98°.Today I'll try and get started on designing the structural elements for the grain elevator project. First I'll need to scan in the image of my scale rule. That way I'll be able to draw out the pieces right next to the rule. The structure walls will be printed on card stock. For the mass of the main structure I can use a box and glue the card stock elements to it. That'll save me the trouble of building a framework to mount the elements on. So far it sounds easy but I'm sure Murphy is waiting to pounce at the most inopportune time. Anybody got a sure-fire Murphy trap I can use?As for the rest of the day we'll see what happens.

DougM.........as many times as I have ridden on or driven the Skyway leaving Chicago or returning, I vaguely remember the Falstaff grain elevator, probably because my Dad would keep my focus on the demise of the steel industry in the U.S., particularly the plants in Whiting, South Deering, East Chicago, and Gary Indiana. Miles of abandoned plants and the loss of the jobs that they once supported negatively impact those areas to this day.
Falstaff may be a beer name foreign to the guys on this forum, but it was the third largest brewer in the U.S in the 1960s. Born in 1838 in St. Louis, it suffered the fate of many American brands, with sales plummeting in the 1970s and vanishing totally by 2005. I didn't care for Falstaff back in my youth as it wasn't among the cheapest brands we (students) could afford. I think the picture you provided supports my feeling that Jeffrey is on the right track with his grain silo project, particularly color. Maybe the the buildings he makes to accompany the silos will comprise a brewery! Falstaff had breweries all over the U.S, in its heyday.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Here's a fast and sure trick I use for making a straight line around a piece of pipe. Here I have a piece of two inch PVC pipe and a two and a quarter inch hose clamp.I put the clamp on the pipe and tighten it until the clamp can just be pushed up or down without tilting to either side.By placing my thumbs under both sides of the clamp I push it to the location I want to mark and use my marking pen to carefully trace a line around it.When I remove the clamp there's a nice straight line all the way around. If you tightened the clamp enough that it couldn't tilt to either side the line will be at ninety degrees in relation the edge of the pipe.
It's a sunny 51, going into the 60s today.
This is a goof off day but I'm looking forward to tomorrows visit with Charlie. He had a busy summer and it's been awhile since we have had time together. Then we are going to Norm C's layout for one last visit. Breakfast of 1 egg, 1 toast, hash browns and hash...S.J.
Aloha and TGIF. A beautiful day. Looking good, Jeffrey. Filling out the crowd at a local fund-raiser tonight. Might get to meet a few Chicago Bears. Prayers for Tyler.
