Thanks guys!  I had a pretty good day just goofing off mostly.  I did spend a couple hours rearranging my books and rotating some to storage for a while at my wife's request.  Dusty work!  UPS delivered my Aristo-RMT Bang S4, which looks great.  I need to move some stuff so I can hook up the power and test run it on my circle of track on the table.  TARDIS is ready and we have cake and banilla, so let's get going guys!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hi all,

Long day today 11 hours in the fertilizer truck. In the truck by 6:30 AM and got out at 5:30 PM in the dark. Trying to get as much done as we could before the rain. I am beat!!  Zzz

Brutus - Happy Birthday!

Doug :Thanks for the info on the train show. Hope to go if I don’t have to be in the fertilizer truck.

Jeffrey: I made an epoxy patch for that rim. Going to re-mount the tire and see if it leaks tomorrow if I get called off work because of bad weather..

Have a good night everybody.

Brutus,

               Happy B-Day

Bob,

With the carphone in the GL, I feel like I am moving backwards technology wise.Laugh

Not much going on today.  I spent the weekend on the GL and ordering parts.  Ran Seafoam through the PCV line Saturday, then it jumped time.Dots - Sign  Nothing serious, and it gives more evidence that the odd sound coming from the timing cover was a pulley or tensioner going out.  I crawled underneath, and the underbody is great.  No rust there.  Rust here though...

I need to figure those fuel lines out asap.  The filler neck is solid, so no worries there.

I won't be able to make the Monroeville Greenberg show this weekend, but I want to get going on the Christmas layout soon.

Hello all,

Happy B-Day Brutus

Ray how goes the trip?

Corn is all picked, Corn crib is full to make feed for cows and chickens. Have five wagon loads to be shelled and sold. Hopefully this will cover next years planting expenses. I'm not sure what the mill will be paying for shelled corn but they are selling for $18.00 per hundred. It was $12 or $13 last year. Soy bean harvest will begin tomorrow.

Have given up on using Gravely to gather leaves, yard still too soft. Hired a teenager to rake the worst onto a tarp and drag to garden. What remains will be "mowed'  using walk behind Toro son uses to mow Grave yard.Digging Dalia's, Gladiola's and Cana Lilies will commence on Wednesday. Mud or no mud

Laz, How'd you like the Ozzie and Harriet show. I thought it was great. Did any body else check it out?

Still undecided on Greenberg Show at Monroeville this weekend.

Mrs & I celebrate 36 years together tomorrow.

Off to bed

Prayer for those in need

Jeffrey - like the new additions! Did I spy an HO model of a Pacer? You just know there had to be one...

You sure did. That's a model of a 1978 Pacer. I had two Pacers when I was younger. A 1975 Pacer X and a 1979 Pacer DL. The X had a 258 long block with a 2 barrel and it was a fast thing. We used it over in Germany and it had no problem maintaining 110 mph on the autobahn while pulling a one and a half ton French Caravan. You go 60 over there and you'll get run over! The DL had a smaller 258 with a 1 barrel carb. While it performed well enough it didn't have the power of the earlier model. I actually have two Pacers for the layout. The one you say at the shell station and a junked one that's partially burned and most of the windows busted out.

Evening all.  Just got home.  Had to drop of deer at processors.  Fred shot a 5 pointer this AM.  He saw a big 6 but no shot.  Saw 4 more deer but no shot.  All I saw was a ton of squirrels and birds.  Moving my stand away from field as they come out after dark and go in before light.  Think there is too much highway traffic too close to the field.  Lots of doe and some big buck tracks.  Fresh since it rained.  Moving my stand to a logging lane 100 yards farther inside the woods.  Fred has his on one in another part of the woods.  I will be able to shoot over 200 yds each way.

Tried to sign on this AM from stand.  Kept says page was down.  Probably so as all the other forums I visit were up and I posted.  Long day as I left home before 6 AM.

Well I just shovelled the first snow of the season. We got a few more inches today. A bit early for us. Normally we don't get more than a dusting until at least Thanksgiving. Still in the clouds, but hopefully it will clear off so we can observe later. Fairly cold, about 15 F.

Joe - you know, I've never used a camera in a cell phone before, but heck I just got another cell phone. Moving into the 90's I guess...Tongue Tied

Brutus - Happy Birthday!

Jeffrey - like the new additions! Did I spy an HO model of a Pacer? You just know there had to be one...

Ray - hope the trip is going well. Watch out that Chief doesn't put any grits in your bag on the way back.

Managed to fix one of my AM radios last night. This one has been a long time in coming. Was a bit of a basket case when I got it. It's old old Silvertone in an interesting trapezoidal wood cabinet. Won't be able to actually try it out 'til I get home. Telescope is a big faraday cage. First time I used my vacuum tube voltmeter to check a negative DC voltage. Very cool! Probes and wires going everywhere. Mad science! I love it!.

Watch part of the Pentrex Big Boy Collection after I got off shift. I never tire of that. I continue to be impressed w/ the size of those locomotives. Just the tender is as big as the locomotives that we had on the Nevada Northern. I been next to #4005 in Denver, but to actually see one of these breathing fire, well that must have been something.

I received two freight cars today. Both are Tyco brown box models that had been retro-fitted with Fleishman couplers (somewhat smaller than those used on the Thomas and Harry Potter trains) with what seems to me a not-so-good glue as it fairly disintegrated when I removed said couplers. It appears it wasn't kind to the plastic either as it made it bubbly and fragile. I was able however to salvage the trucks. I haven't seen this particular type of coupler since the 60's. A OO Scale set I had was equipped with them.

The first car is a Tyco center flow hopper (Kellogg's 958-A released 1972). The Tyco trucks and plastic wheels were replaced with AHM trucks and metal wheels. I removed the Fleishman couplers and body mounted Kadee #5's in #242 gear boxes.

The second car is a Tyco container flatcar (SeaLand 352-B). The Tyco trucks and plastic wheels were removed and AHM three axle trucks with two metal wheelsets each were substituted. Since the photos were taken I've refitted it with the original type Tyco trucks it came with. The AHM trucks proved to be troublesome on turns. The containers have the proper SeaLand logo. There was a variation released that had the red area of the logo upside-down so the "L" was to the left of the "S" and looked like a "7". As far as I know those are worth no more than those with the proper logo.

Good Morning...

Rode the Harley yesterday.  Did the Worlds Largest Mobile Toy run yesterday in Philly...when I left it was 30F...yes I did dress appropriate!  Met up with Bucks County HOG group in Langhorne and we were off to the staging area on Delaware Ave, across the river from the USS New Jersey.  Just under the Ben Franklin Bridge.  We were there for a few hours, spoke to a few other bikers when Santa himself, on a full dress Blue and Silver Metal Flake Harley zoomed by.  We were off 20 minutes later as the procession started.  Yes it was that large and that long.  We actually looped around 1 mile when we got in the procession.  We ended up at Citizens Bank Park, where we dropped off our toys and were treated to a Mummers Band!  Real cool!!  Was a exciting experience.

Made it back by 230 PM.  Several long fire calls and was home again by 9.

Today is the viewing and service for a Past Chief and 66 year member who sadly past away Friday night.  Fred was always there and involved.  At the time, he was our oldest living member.  He had a stroke last Monday and that was it.  Miss him already.

Happy B-Day Brutus!

Doug - Bang Head

Dennis - Thumbs Up

Saw part of the Giants game last night...the part where they were LOOSING!!!  Didn't know they won until I got home last night.

Devils won Saturday Night...Thumbs Up.

Thats all for now...and all I can remember from the last 3 pages....Bang Head

Morning all.  Getting ready to head in.   I am again on call and so far, it looks like a nice week ahead, but that can change on a dime.  I have been given a list of paperwork to take care of with the Chinese consulate today and still have my homework for bible study to take care of.  With any luck, today will be a slow one and I can get some of this done.

Roy, thanks for the comments.  We are blessed in that things have gone so smooth and fast.  They usually do go faster for special needs adoptions, but this is much faster than most folks we have spoken with.  Funny, the pastor was talking about yesterday being "Adoption Day", there was my daughter standing with pride while he was talking about it, even though she was not in the spot light, she was liking the words she was hearing.  When the pastor spoke of his being adopted, she told my wife that "He must  have come from Korea, because he doesn't look Chinese".  Funny how they only think of the world as their own experience.

Doug, I would be hard pressed to walk away from all that great stuff.  When I have been asked to look at a collection, it has been poor quality Marx, missing pieces, bent, rusty, etc.  And because it was old, they wanted high prices for it...I passed.  Also, do you know of a good media director, as we are looking for one at Sherwood.  They would direct video/sound capture for services, record other programming, and run the TV station.

Chief, I am sure you are showing Ray a great time here in the south!  Hope he has a great visit with his sister and enjoys the time here and has travelling mercies home.  It is  a good time to visit as the temps are nice.  We have daily temps in the low 70s and night lows in the 50s.

Have to take my 9 year old son to do some shooting.  We have been invited to a hunting trip and he has not fired anything bigger than a BB gun.  He doesn't have the inclination to kill anything, so this is just going to be an education thing.  I plan on bringing a camera to the hunt and "shoot" any deer with digital.

Gotta run, but I pray that each of you has a blessed day.
Dennis

55 and cloudy.

The house feels chilly. Home from having an old filling redone. Good to go for 6 months. I have no big plans for the day and the body has not gotten use to the time change yet. Wish they would leave the time one way or the other...S.J.

Happy birthday Brutus.

Good morning. It's 65° and foggy. After the fog lifts it will be cloudy. The high is expected to be 76° and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a 1-% chance of rain today changing to 40% after 8 pm.

I did some cleanup on the layout last night and this morning. While it's still not at it's best it is better than it was. I found a tree with a broken trunk. A little super glue fixed it right up. I had dinner at my parents place last night. Steak with rice, onion, green and red peppers and tomatoes. I don't take tomatoes well and my body is letting me know all about it. As a result I won't be doing much today.

Konbanwa,

I ordered the phone, cable, and internet services for the house with no problems.  Amazingly, I will be paying about the same price I was paying in the States; however, I will not have as many channels, but that is okay since we will probably watch less television anyway.  The company that provides the services for the base is also able to provide us a US telephone number which is pretty neat.  That allows us to call others in the States and vice versa just as if we lived there.

Subbob - No one gave us any funny looks.  Since cameras are now so common in phones I don't think anyone notices any more.

SJ - I enjoy searching out a great deal as well, but I would enjoy running my finds even more.

Charlie - Thanks for posting the video.  Was that the MTH Hiawatha set in the video?  It sure is a great looking train.

Happy Birthday Brutus! Happy B-Day

Thanks Jim & Charlie, tomorrow is 48.  Seems like just yesteday I was 18 to me!  No trains today - just has a quiet day at home and then went out for some steak dinner at Texas Roadhouse.  TARDIS is ready, but I'm pretty full of steak and taters, so please take it easy in the turns Laugh

PS - reduced the pressure to the house and faucets/showers still seem fine to me.  I'll check and see what the results are tomorrow.

Cold and cloudy up here on the mountain today. We got a few inches of snohio over the weekend and may get a few more tonight and tomorrow.

Doug M - no worries on the pictures. I'm not a big fan of E and F units anyway, but that's another story. The recent Classic Trains was inundated w/ them.  Now an Alco PA or FA....well that's differentSmile, Wink & Grin

SPRay - glad to hear he made it to NC safely

Joe - now that must have been a sight, you taking pictures of hamburgers w/ your cell phone camerasStick out tongue

Kev - your rim story is interesting. Alloy rims are really only useful for the way they look. We never used to like 'em off road, as they often break rather than bend when hit.

Parted out one of my old tube radios last night. An old plastic AM clock radio. Clock switch had gone bad. And every time I worked on it another piece of plastic would break off.  The unit is one of the last generation of tube radios built on a PCB. But after a few repairs years ago it gave a number of more years of service. And heck, the $5 or $10 I paid for it  is worth it for the spare tubes anyway. Found a nice replacement AM/FM in a wood cabinet. Guess that will be my birthday present to myself next week.

Ohayƍ,

I know most of you will be heading to bed soon, but I have been at work for about two hours now.  Today, I need to set up our cable, phone, and internet services for the house we are moving into this Thursday.  Other than that I have plenty of reading to do at work.  I was able to catch the ends of the Packers-Charges and Giants-Patriots games this morning.  The SNF game should start soon.

SJ - I hope Charlie has some photos to post.  I'm glad you found the car you were looking for.  I had a few pre-war Lionel items on my eBay watch list the past few days.  My wife has given me the okay to buy, but the prices seem a little high to me.

RT - We definitely want to take advantage of our time overseas.  I know when I retire some years from now these opportunities may not exist.

Sayonara,

Joe

Howdy all

It went to 65 today, but I spent it indoors with Charlie and others running trains for the local Glancy  train group. There seemed to be a good attendance and I spent $7 on a Marx red obs. car that I have been looking for but wouldn't pay the going rate of 35/45. Found this one in a sellers junk box he said 7 and I didn't even dicker with him. Banilla will be waiting..oh heck i'll even toss in some rootbeer to celebrate my find..S.J.
