8NT - congrats to the wife and to you!

Roy - Big Congrats on 25 Years!

Stayed home today as they brought over my mower, also took kids to school, scouts, etc.  Also made some time to kill zombies and I got a train dvd at the LHS.  So it was a good day :)

LA Noire looks good!

TARDIS is ready and we have cookies and cake to go with the banilla Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

My first day back to work after such a long time off was tough and long, but I survived and should be back in my groove tomorrow.  I made spaghetti with marinara sauce for dinner tonight.  We also had some bread and salad.  We didn't do much afterwards but relax.

S.J. and SP Ray - Thanks for the MTH tip.  I browsed a couple of their catalogs and found some very nice offerings, but they are a bit pricey for me right now.  I also found some O gauge style trains made in Germany, Italy, England, and Czechoslovakia.  They are very nice too, but more like 1:45 or 1:43.5, and only appeared to be 2-rail.

8N - That's great news about your wife.

My beacon is lit so I'm going to catch a quick ride on the Tardis tonight.

Another 90+ day here.

Took my wife to the next large town east for her check up with the knee surgon.  Clean bill of health, next check up is Feb, 2012!

RI52 - Insperation for my wife's recovery?  I think I just keep picking on her, and she wants to get mobile so she can catch up and clobber me.  She is getting quicker, so I've got to be more careful.

Traindood - thanks.  I thought I remembered the Marine caboose and maybe a Navy.  I was hopeing for an Air Force version.  Sounds like I might end up with a re-paint of a 6017 or similar.

All for now.

SJ - yes I have dealt with Marty. His 'shop' is right around the corner from Fife's abode. I've got my eye on some Lionel sets, haven't decided if I want to pull the trigger yet or not.

S.J.

Edit Brent ...Marty at Ma & Pa junction has very good Williams prices...he can be a very slow shipper however. But has always come through with the order.

Well looks like I'll have to copy Fife's and make my own... Whistling

Did some looking around for the Williams remake of the Lionel Girls set... any one who claims Williams is still a great buy has not looked at their prices recently. $650 for a repro is NOT what I would call a good buy. Guess I'll shop around at shows and assemble my own...

Why do i spend more when I have a coupon? How did that happen. Well, at least I bought so much food the boys and I will be eating pizza until the bride returns. The youngest wanted to go through my tools - so I got some wood and was teaching him how to use a saw, power-screwdriver and hammer. The basics. Wore him out.   Jim, LA Noire is an amazing game. Just noticed not one, not two, not three, but four auto parts stores opening in town - all within a few miles of each other. They join two others. Its not like there's a race track around here. Off to church for a meeting. Near 100 here tonight. Thank you Lord for working a/c.

Banks,

I've been sticking my head in, but haven't had a chance to post.  Let me know how Toy Town's inventory is after you get back.Wink  I'll (hopefully) be in the area July 10-17.

Brent,

Continued Angel for you and The Q.  I think that we are close to the same level of being busy work wise, but I am loving it.

Brutus,

If you get a chance, pick up L.A. Noire.  It is great.  I got it for the PS3 because it is on one BD compared to 3 DVDs on the 360, but I'll also get it for the 360 if people on my friends list do.  Best game I've played in a long, long time.

I haven't had a chance to post since I've started this new job last Tuesday.  Hands down the best thing that has ever happened for me.  Everything about this is perfect.  I actually wake up excited to go to work every morning, which is something I never thought I would say.  Ever.

I replaced my Vizio 32" LCD with a 42" LG Plasma last Tuesday since hhgregg had a great sale.  I sold the Vizio to a family friend and used the money to get tools for work.

If anyone needs tools, get to Lowes before the end of the month.  A lot of things are 50% off, and there are some great combo deals.  Back to Auto Trader...Stick out tongue

Afternoon part deux:     Hey S P Man:   Ever hear of the show " You Asked For It"?   Well here goes.   Do not deviate from recipe!  Start with one really firm eggplant, not just any one. Look at the bottom of the plant. If it has a round circle at the bottom it's a male plant, if it has a slit ( i'm not kidding) it's a female plant. You want the female plant because it doesn't have as many seeds. Wash, then cut off green end with stem.   Peel dark skin off plant with a potato peeler. Slice plant into slices between 1/8and 1/4 inch thick.  In a bowl scramble up two eggs per eegplant, add 1/2 cup whole milk, mix together. Place slices into mixture, let soak, making sure all is covered with egg mixture.     Meanwhile, get a shallow vessel to put bread crumbs in. Only use 4C flavored breadcrumbs.  Take each slice from the egg mixture and bread them both sides, and place in flat platter until all slices are breaded.  In a large, heavy cast iron frying pan, fill with about 1/2 inch of canola oil. You may have to add more oil as you fry them.  Make oil get hot but not too hot;  you don't want it to smoke.  Place slices one at a time into frying pan.  Cook until both sides are golden brown.  Place cooked slices onto paper towels to drain. Repeat until all slices are cooked.   Get a baking pan or dish @ 8X12 inches. Put tomato sauce on bottom of baking dish. Place one layer on bottom of baking dish.  Purhase mozzarella from supermarket, any brand will do except fresh. Do not buy fresh mozzarella because it will disintregrate while baking.  Cover first layer of plant with mozzarella. Cover wih sauce. Then sprinkle with Locatelli Romano brand cheese.  Repeat process, layering slices and mozzarella, sauce and cheese until complete, ending with mozzarella on top, followed by sauce and cheese. Cover with foil then bake at 375 for @ 1/2 hour, then check, if bubbling, and cheese looks melted, it's done.    One eggplant should serve about 6 people, unless i'm eating there. Then it'll be a serving for one!    Laugh    Enjoy!     Recipe courtesy of my wife, the greatest cook in the world!   Next up the cream puff recipe!      later.

Think good thoughts, do good deeds!

Late Lunch,

Happy belated birthday to the Chief. I am glad that you enjoyed your day.

8n, great news about your wife's knee. I know what you mean about motorsports changing. I refer to the NHRA as No Hot Rods Allowed.

Laz, that sounds like the perfect night to me. Fishing, BBQ, Fire and Beer. Your retirement schedule is close to mine.

Roy, Congrats on you r 25th anniversary and pass on the Happy Birthday to your daughter.

Don, Good luck and have fun with the G scale.

Banks, D day. A lot of us forget but I hold it in esteem. Enjoy the little one.

Doug, Take it from trainddod and I, we have the best Veal Parm in our neck of the woods. It will beat grits anytime.

Have a Great Day,

John

Mornin' All.

Just had to drop in and post this link in hopes of brightening a Blue Monday:

Roy, Congrats to you and your bride.

Brent, Sounds as though things are moving along smoothly, I hope. Thumbs Up

Buckeye, Did he like the "Little Toy Trains" clip by Roger Miller ?

Ray & Dood, It has been decades since I have had a Veal Parm out here that was worth hoot. So many of these places try to pass off a glorified burger patty as veal. Ick! Although I have found a couple places that can do a tolerable chicken parm, but veal is much better.

Procrastinated enuff, got work to do. Grumpy

Good morning all,

Chief, glad to have you back on board.  Hope you had a nice birthday.  How big were those stripers you caught.  My brother in Virginia catches them in both salt and fresh water since they can live in either but he says he thinks the saltwater version taste better.

Made a chicken and shrimp dish last night with linguini.  Was very good and had two helpings.

Good train meet yesterday but was unable to spend enough time there due to other priorities.

Have a good week,

Ray

Demay

Good morning all,

It's my first day back at work after having about 10 days off due to some leave time and the holiday.  I hope to be firing on all cylinders by this afternoon.  It's going to top out at about 99 again today, and since it is getting hotter earlier I need to start my morning runs earlier which takes time to get used to.

Train-related question: Do any of the big O manufacturers (Lionel, MTH, etc.) make any European style trains?

Good day,

Joe

MTH is making European trains.  Lots of stuff in catalogs.

Good Mornin Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,

Banks.....I hear you!  It is the anniversary of D-Day, arguably the most important battle of our times with horrific casualties and sacrifice.  And not so much as a mention of it on the news.  What are the editors and bureau chiefs thinking when they give the green light to the stories that make the headlines?  Don't they care?

Beautiful moderate and sunny this past weekend made for enjoyable outdoor stuff.  Thumbs Up  Fired up the new grill again Saturday evening for a simple but satisfying meal with the family.....teriyaki chicken, corn on the cob, chicken rice pilaf, and a massive tossed salad.  Lemon crunch cake with B&J's Cherry Garcia ice cream for dessert.  Dinner

My Dad used to espouse "everything in moderation."  Mother Nature is not listening.  Despite last Wednesday's devastating tornadoes and storms hereabouts, it has been over two weeks since we had any significant rainfall to speak of.  The grass continues to grow but is already starting to lose it's virulent green color.  Decision time:  start watering and incur a staggering water bill or let nature take its Summer course.    High 60s now but it sounds like I'll be getting SJ's 90 degree weather Thursday.

Brent........  Angel from the sound of your post it sounds like your prayers will be answered.  I will continue to keep you and Susan in my prayers.  Sent you an email about your sis' dog.  Hope you got it.

8N.......your news on the wifey's PT progress on the knee was a shot of fresh air.  It has been a long and tough road, but she has continued to knock off each obstacle one at a time.  She must get her inspiration from you.  Whistling

Chief.......you're alive!!!!!!!  Was beginning to think you went AWOL.  No birthday bash details?  That fatal crash story you shared was horrible.  Every time a vehicle and a tree meet, the vehicle and its occupants lose.  I can't imagine what the parents, families, and friends are feeling.  No matter how much a parent warns their kids about speed and driving distractions too many young folks don't pay enough heed.

LAZ........T-minus and counting.  You survived another one.  Thumbs Up

Later, gang.

Jack

Aloha. Working from home as the bride is away and its the last day of school for the youngest. Nice, if too brief chat with Brutus late last eve. Hope to head over to Garden railroad store I re-discovered later today - I get this bug to build something outside every summer LOL.

I do the same thing every summer, usually starts in early spring. Then I get to thinking what happens to the track, buildings, Etc. with the freezing and thawing, cats, snow, Etc. Do you have these concerns?
