You Know Your an 0 Gauge Model Train Fanatic, If......
Posted by krapug1 on Sunday, March 6, 2011 5:48 PM

OK, let's have some fun with this.

I posted this earlier on "that other forum", and had some good back and forth.

Granted some of the references make me a "geezer", but then again, I did turn 50 a few weeks back.

1. The legacy of Lenny Dean means much more to you than the legacy
of James Dean.

2. The first thing you think of when you here "Hudson" is a majestic
steam engine, as opposed to a car company, department store, singer, or river.

3. Your know that General Mills made much more than cereal.

4. Back in the day, if your wife, or kids wanted to go to Two Guys, you
not only agreed, but were in the car first.

5. You never went to Branch Brook Pool Company, for pools.

6. You knew not to go into Madison Hardware for hammers, or nails.

7. You know that Marx, and Marxists can be a good thing.

8. Toot, Toot, Beep, Beep, has nothing to do with ladies of the night.

9. You agree that a 2nd Mount Rushmore should include Joshua Cowen.

10. Hillside, and Irvington NJ mean more to you than Atlantic City, NJ.

Feel free to add you own.

Ken

You look at model 2 rail track and think something is missing.

On your trip to Colorado, the "Wall of Trains" at Mizell Trains is as much a trip highlight as driving to the top of Pike's Peak.

...The Christmas layout you set  up in your living room 13 years ago is still there, AND you are still married and on speaking terms with your wife...except when occasionally she complains "why does my living room look like a garage", and the explanation that there are required upgrades in progress does not satisfy...

You think of Jerry Williams(founder of Williams trains) and not Serena Williams(tennis star).

You know that Mike's Train House(MTH) is not a building.

You know that Ives(Ives Trains, until sometime in the 1930's) wasn't part of Currier & Ives.

You remember that American Flyer was originally three rail trains, before WW2.

You also compile a list of public layout displays to visit.

Being an American Flyer Fanatic I just couldn't resist. Lee, American Flyer was originally on two rails before they went to three (clockwork trains).

I know I reread what I found and it said clock work first then added electric O and wide gauge so the clockwork of coarse was 2 rail but not the S we think of when you say American Flyer

When you decorate for Christmas, the first thing you think of is setting the trains up in the living room, and leaving them up until new years!

You can still remember vividly how the floor vibrated beneath your feet as the O gauge Phoebe Snow went by on the New York Society of Engineers outside third rail layout upstairs in the Lackawanna Hoboken terminal.

Ray,

I didn't know that A.F. did wind-ups.

I have about four A.F. steam engines in S gauge, and about 20 freight cars, with about a 6 ft. by 8 ft. S gauge layout of track inside my O gauge.

Lee - Yes, that's how they started around 1907.

This video shows one running on 3 rail O gauge. But when they first were sold they ran on O gauge 2 rail.

When something you did to repair a loco or switch or some other piece of equipment is used at work  for a project completely unrelated to trains.

Lee,

If you want more information on AF clockwork you might want to look at Northwoods Flyer's thread on Pre-War American Flyer Pictures - An Invitation on this site.  Check the index on page 1 and read through the entire index.  There are several posts with pictures and descriptions of the trains listed (pp15 and 16 for example).
