...How did you get the image to be so much bigger?

I went into your photo album and inserted the link to the largest pic of that scene you posted.

If it'll help, I'll get some pics taken too.  Then you can show her a pair of layouts built, owned and operated by a female model railroader!  : )

First, thanks for all of the photos, guys.  I hope others follow your lead!

On the other hand, I am starting to feel a tad guilt because of the simplicity of my single Christmas oval and using the wifes treasured lighted village pieces and figures as the props.  But I have an excuse for not doing something more elaborate.  My wife is the landlord of the entire space under our tree, and I am a lowly tenant.  I face eviction if I push things too far.  Smile, Wink & Grin  But I have planted a seed in her head by showing her your pictures which reflect how other women allow a bit more artistic license under the tree.

Still a work in progress. Need to add the tree skirt, people, and get some of my other prewar stuff cleaned up.

Nice looking buildings from "Kohls". I purchased the same set. They are perfect for 0 scale.

Kevin,

Don't sell yourself short, those photos are truly symbolic of what Christmas looked like to a bunch of "trainheads" in years gone-by. Thumbs Up

Couldn't be me since I don't have a layout for my Lionel, just a loop of track on the floor.  Smile

Christmas 1976, when I got my Lionel that got me into trains.

Christmas Eve 1999.  Temporarily set up the Lionel while I was staying at my Mom and Dad's while getting back on my feet after being laid off from work.

Christmas 2002.  Had the Lionel running around the perimeter of my living room and adjusted the track to run in front of the tree.

Christmas 2003.  Had more Lionel trains added to my collection from my mom's late uncle's estate.  Rerouted the track to go into the corner behind the tree, and then make a turn to come out alongside the nativity scene.

Christmas 2005

Since getting cats in 2007, I moved the Lionel to a smaller loop of track in my home office upstairs, which is also where I put the tree in December.

Employees of the Department of Public Works from town and some employees from the Maintenance of Way Department of American Flyer Lines have been busy since the most recent blanketing of snow.  The first thing on their agenda was to get the skating pond cleared at the edge of town in preparation for the holidays.

Some folks have already been out on the ice.  Please excuse the blury photo.  My hands were shaking as I took the photos.  I forgot to take my gloves along.

Nels Jameson, the town industrial magnate, has promised to pay the salaries of a band to play live music for the skaters.  He even funded the new gazebo on the skating pond.

The view from the daily passenger trains that travel past the skating pond should be enough to tempt plenty of folks to try a few trips around the ice.

In a very short period of time things are starting to look a lot like Christmas here on the BlueBoard Central.

Here's mine, a 1946 Lionel 1666 pulling original cars and a Lionel S-2 pulling some newer equipment.  Please note, the date stamp is inop.

There have been predictions of snow flurries almost every day for the past week.  A few puffs of white stuff have been seen, but last night the weather predictions were correct.  Parts of the BlueBoard Central were "blanketed" with snow.

It looks like the town elders can get to work on preparations for Christmas and the Winter Carnival.

There is nothing like a fresh layer of snow to bring out the holiday spirit.

This is my 6 x 8 Christmas Layout.  Portable set up.. I use carriage bolts to hold the legs... I made some cliffs/mountains on foam in three sections that are easy to store. I started it two years ago.  Lemax buildings on the elevated portion and o gauge buildings (except for the dept 56 lionel store) on the bottom.

Strictly speaking, I suppose, this isn't really a "Christmas layout" at all, being as it's just a loop of FasTrack I've set up in my basement.  But it is the Christmas season, and it is a layout, however basic, so I guess it qualifies.

The locomotive is my newly-acquired 681, pulling a string of modern Lionel PRR passenger cars.  The woodens structures (station, two houses, a schoolhouse and a barn) were built by my grandfather for my mother's layout.  The water tower is by Marx.

These pictures are a few years old, so I've added a few things since they were taken. I built this for my older son, Jarrett, when he was 1 year old. The oak capping was stained to match the wife's dining room set, since I had to remove the dining room table for two months out of the year so I'd have a place for the Christmas tree. It's regular Lionel track with 0-31 curves, 3 sidings and of course, electrical outlets with on/off switch for the Christmas tree. The train is always Jarrett's U.S. Army Troop Train, including all of the add on cars, as that has become the official Read family Christmas train.

fifedog,

Here is an archival photo of the ice sculpture competition from last year during the Winter Carnival.  The town elders promise that this year the opportunity for winter activities and holiday celebrating will be even better.

What a great idea for a thread.  I have enjoyed all of the posts so far and I look forward to more.  dsmith's track plan is very interesting.  I hope he plans on posting some video of his vintage Marx trains traversing that route this year.

I am not sure that there will be an under the tree layout this year.  It all depends on the final location of the tree.  However, the Blueboard Central Division of American Flyer Lines does have some holiday features added during the Christmas season.  I am going to take my lead from fifedog and post some "in process" photos as the project takes shape.

During the last week the town elders started work on the project by clearing out the park and some of the surrounding area.
