Hope it's not too late to post this years temporary holiday layout. In our house the trains are only out for a couple months each year about this time. The wife was encouraging this year to make the layout bigger and do some landscaping and she wanted an elevation change. She even let me take over the living room! So it went from a simple 5' x 6' twice around the Xmas tree on a flat green board with no buildings, trees, rocks or snow to a 6 1/2' x 9' layout around the Xmas tree with multiple routes (5 switches) and a lot more character as shown in the photos. The wife even helped with the landscaping and the farm scene in particular. (hope I get these attached correctly)
Not too bad for a seasonal layout.

Here are some pics of my Christmas layout this year. It is 4' x 14' and includes all postwar rolling stock and motive power, postwar plasticville buildings on the lower level and a plastercraft village that I painted over the years.
Here's where I started. Just a couple simple ovals is about all I have time to set up.
Town construction begins.
Here you can see the winter sports recreation area at one end and also the highland residents have begun moving in.
Here is a shot of the completed highland village.

The Lackawanna FM Trainmaster rumbles by in the backround as residents go about there business following a light snow the night before.
Sister Mary Joseph supervises the plowing of the road in front of the town church.
The ever efficient crew at Dave's Super Service station take care of the day's patrons.

I'm a big fan of Anime, especially the works of Masamune Shirow and Hiyao Miyazaki. Bateau (Bat-Tow) from Ghost in the Shell is leaning against the large red Lionel style villa and in the middle of the street in front of him is "CEO Jamison" from the same series. There are figures from Appleseed and various other anime also hidden about town. They're a bit big for the buildings they're sitting by, but inexpensive Gashapon (capsule) figures are a fun way to populate a deserted town!
The Tardis came from: http://www.ironcowprod.com/plastic/doctor_who/tardis/recipe.html You may have to do a bit of cut and paste since the original paper size was 11 by 17, or you could just print it smaller. But it's fairly easy to build.
There are also some paper Daleks out there, but I thought that might be a bit much so I don't have them trying to exterminate my trains. : )

I have been wanting to see pics of your layouts forever. Wonderful! I love how your cardstock "tinplate" buildings fit right in, and not a few "found objects" too (NGE characters on a train layout...whoda thunk?)
The Tardis is a nice touch too. Where'd you come across that? Or did you build it?
I just had another group of photos approved for the Reader Photos section as "Becky's Trains". This group shows my Standard Gauge and G Scale layout under the big tree, and some more detail photos of my O and S gauge bedroom layout. Enjoy!

Once you have uploaded your image to photobucket, you just go to the album you loaded it to, let your cursor hover over the image you want to post, click on the words "IMG code" in the box that has opened automatically under the image. That will copy the image code to your clipboard. Place the cursor where you want the image to be in this "post message" box and paste the code from your clipboard.
There is no need to open any other boxes and no need to type any codes. It will not show the image here, but it will be there when you post it.

I use Shutterfly. With the last software version it was just a matter of copying the photos properties and pasting into the the "photo posting" drop down window when the tree looking icon was clicked.
Apparently the "new icon", whether it be in a forum thread posting or the new "photo gallery" feature requires the use of a photo sharing feature on the site that you use to host your files. I have not set up, nor do I plan to, a "share" site.
This does not mean I won't be contributing to the site, I will just be doing it the way it was done prior to the last software that was used.
Open Shutterfly, select photo from thumbnail to be posted, open to full size, right click on photo to open a dropdown window, left click on "properties", hi-lite and copy properties.
To post:
Open thread, click on "reply", use bracket img close bracket, paste your photo's URL, bracket/imgclose bracket.
For example, using parenthesis not brackets to not cause an error:
(img)URL-URL-URL(/img)
If you are on dial-up or slow service it can be a real pain, but it helps if you can have two windows open and just toggle back-n-forth copying and pasting as you go. Worked before and will work still.

Kitty's name is in fact Kitty. Or it was... Wife has informed me that Kitty is now Scruffy. Kitty/Scruffy is a new addition to the famly. We found her starving under the shed a few months ago. She's a tail-less Manx. Anyway... Kitty/Scruffy doesn't chase that train she goes Godzilla on it. Belle the dog doesn't really care.

As promissed, here are the pics of the Christmas layout I made for my wife's workplace.
Basic dimensions are 3' wide by 12' long. 2 6' scetions are lag-bolted together for transportation.
I pre-cut the river bed, and will later make a timber trestle from wood strips. But first, have to sand off all the little splinters so that little hands won't find them.
Everything you see on this Christmas layout was spare stuff in my basement, from the MTH track, to the old-school LIonel switch, to all the buildings. Mike's B&O docksider does the honors.
The neat father/son raking team is from LEMAX. Those are Dollar store houses in the background, that I incorporated into the styrofoam mountain as I carved along.
B&O 97 crosses over Long Green Creek as it circles an ERTL farm scene. Littlest princess painted the neat 3-piece backdrop.
What's cool about the location of the bank is that it sits just south of the former right-of-way of the Maryland & Pennsylvania RR.

I finally got my Christmas layout finished. I had to replace the second level track because of a new Arch bridge and then I had to build a curved bridge to fit the new track. I am going to make a video, but my camera quit working.

Winter weather is exerting itself today. Some parts of the area are predicted to get 12 to 16 inches. Its a good thing the town elders got started on the Christmas decorating before this stuff hit.
The enclosure for the Winter Carnival was constructed earlier this week, before the storms hit. We have three rivers that converge here in town so there is plenty of ice available for the ice walls and entrance. Crews have been out on the rivers cutting blocks of ice for over a week. One of the main entrances went up first.

Great pics all. Heres what I've been up to. its not much but its for the son of a co-worker who is a single mom. Last year I sold her a nascar train set NIB for her son well this year I asked her to let me have the train set for a little bit so I could lube and check it out. well this is what her son is getting back Christmas morning ( by the way he just turned 7 so he did get it early but she watches him closely and he loves this train well now he will really like it I hope.)
Don't have any kids so this is fun to me not the greatest but it gives him something to go with left the one corner open so he can add buildings or what ever there. I'm also giving him a set of RR signs I have. By the way the sign is a pic I cut to size that was part of some sample train Christmas cards I got in one year. Its Santa adjusting his glasses as he looks at an train engine.

Finally got around to shooting some photos of this year's Christmas layout.
Was not able to use the regular spot for the normally Thomas layout now Christmas, unable to negotiate land rights. Consequently had to use the short tree instead of the 7 footer.
Tall load, will require clearance verification on the club layout in the morning.
