If my memory serves me correctly, the original postwar sets weren't too pricy about 3 years ago.  No?

It was a bad idea when they first came out with it in the 50's, it was a bad idea when K-Line, Williams, et al, tried to reproduce it in the 90's, and it's a bad idea now. Why don't these train manufacturers let that set go to rest?

Because there are so many collectors who know they'll never be able to afford an example of the original, so they're willing to settle for a reproduction.

It is surprising how popular they are when they are running at the museum. But by far the most popular is Thomas & Friends.

They don't let go because it sells.

Remake of Lionel Girl's Set
Posted by initagain on Monday, May 10, 2010 8:48 PM

I just received a 2010 Lionel catalog set from Charles Ro Supply.  I'm sure a lot of others have received it as well. from whatever source.  In the larger catalog, there are several conventional classic sets being offered, one of them being the #1587 Girl's Set.  I'm wondering if anyone has considered this set, or has any "inside information" as to the quality and accuracy of colors, details, etc.
