York - October
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 2, 2009 2:08 PM

Ordered by pass this morning.

I'll be there Saturday if anyone else will be around.

Are we doing dinner on Thursday? If so where? Do we meet at Isaac's again or somewhere else?

Buckeye and I will be arriving late Thursday, so the later, the better.  We will be there all day Friday.  We will do all we can to meet you guys either of those two days.

As always, I'm in the BLUE HALL, Table E-14.   CTT Booth in the ORANGE HALL at 1:00 on Friday sounds good.   Don Urquhart  TCA73-5735

1:00 PM on Friday at the CTT booth sounds good to me.  I'm always up for dinner either Thursday or Friday.  Roy are you tuned in?  I assume you will be there this year, correct?

I'll only be up on Saturday.

I can make dinner on Thursday, but Friday I have a sleep study in Frederick at 8pm so I'll probably head home, have dinner with The Q and then head to the hospital for the sleep study. I'll be in York as soon as I finish the sleep study, head home, get a shower, have breakfast, and get in the car.

I was going to try to make it up Friday afternoon, but it isn't looking good at the moment. Since I only want to pick up the boxcar and stop by the Miller Engineering Booth, I probably won't stay long.

Fife - We're heading out of town this weekend and the 17th I have to head to York in the AM. I don't know what the afternoon holds. The 24th would have worked great for me because The Q has plans and I'm free... the 31st I have no idea what is going on... maybe planning a B-Day party for The Q and her aunt... haven't firmed up those plans yet though. I'll keep you posted.

I plan to be at York Saturday.

Would be interested if any Forum members will have a meet up location and time that day.

Great photo guys.  Who is the guy with the Ohio Central cap?  Seems he looks familiar but not sure.  OH, his photo is on the Post Office wall.   I do see that Fife and Carl got a new hair cut for the photo. Whistling

Always depend on Marty E to come through.

Brent, this is probably too late regarding today...sorry, been working too much.  Anyway, they probably would let you shower at the sleep study facility.  Just make sure you bring a hat for York as the aquasonic gel that they use for the electrodes going to your head will make your hair look like a scene from "Something About Mary".

Anyway, hope everyone has a great time up there.  Looking forward to stories and photos of all the great finds.

Only problem Fife.....you are not driving this time.  Regarding Tony Lash taking the photo, seems kind of funny as the location is always by the garbage cans.  For those that don't know, Tony owns a large garbage/waste company, so it is not a slight at him.

There was an inch of water on those seats.  Can you imagine how stingy-itchy-chafey the whities would be after that....?

Wow!!! The three days roared by.  Wes and I left for York on Thursday arriving around 12:30 pm.  Thursday evening, we had supper with 88, the wonderful SusieQ and Roy.   It was great to see everyone yesterday at the CTT photo op.  Mr. Tony Lash did the honors by taking our photo.  Thank you, Mr. Lash for being a great sport.

We really enjoyed meeting author, Dennis Brennan who's new book, Realistic Modeling for Toy Trains, sold out at York!!!

Mich...I'm glad you enjoyed those Buckeyes.  Ask Brent how many you can eat in one morning.

John and Roy....Thanks again for the expert guidance.

Roy....Had a great time eating with the experts on Friday night.

Marty....Please keep those video coming.

fifedog.....Dwarf?? ROFLOL

Carl.....It was great seeing the guy that puts up with too much again this year. Tell Bobby hello and to open the blinds.

The trip home was interesting.  We left York this morning about 6 AM and headed west.  Somewhere east of Breezewood on the turnpike we exited a tunnel and the temperature dropped to 32 and snow was flying through the air.  Bridges became slick.  One mule fell over the bridge railing.  A campground adjoining the TP was covered in snow. Shock (I know Jon is jealous.)

If you are an old dog and want to learn new tricks, York is where you can receive an education in product and innovation.  I find myself really looking at the railroad art, photography and of course the detailed layouts and dioramas.   Did anyone else look at the old Pennsylvania RR calendars?  The calendars are absolutely stunning.

Buckeye, glad you and Wes made it home in one piece.  State College had to suspend tailgating due to 9 inches of snow on the ground.  (They must have weak fingernails too...)

If you like PRR calendar art, pick up a copy of CROSSROADS OF COMMERCE.  Great book on Grif Teller's work.

Yes, caught the green.  Better than the red you were on in spring.  I spent a lot of time on one of those "reds" when I was a kid and teenager.  Love the green though.

fifedog....In the blue hall, this lady had a collection of mint Pennsylvania RR calendars, the 30"x30" variety.   I was drooling, because I have a C&O calender and there is a museum in Balitimore that would like a donation.

Ohio Jim...........One thing that amazes me about York is the amount of S gauge.  From new, S-Line Helper down to AF junk, they have it all.

Sorry I did not get over for the group photo.

No excuses, but Friday morning I left my nice warm Blue Hall to check out the Orange and Purple Halls and returned wet and cold.   Never thought I should have brought a Winter Parker to an October train show in southern PA.   Otherwise, a great Show.

Dennis,

Some people fly in.

but most get off at the Roger's Corner Station.

We have several great tourist attractions, like:

Benchwork

Foam

Unique Train Engineers

Food for our engineer friends

We have an AMTRAK repair facility, too.

And of course, hidden controls.

Sure!! If you pay the premium landing fees, I'll make sure all the cows and goats are off the runway.  The chickens are not too much of a problem unless one of our Made in Ohio GE Jet Engines is used to make chicken salad.
