Afternoon all.  Great day.  Sunday School and then a Hardee's chicken biscuit [Southern Fried Wink].  Just finished making a 1/2 gal of sweet tea for the day.  Triple digits and high humidity so will stay inside today.  Will go check pond and sit for a little "meditation" as a quite peaceful place surrounded by town and vehicles.

Pat, you got some funny jokes.  Get my laugh everyday from them.

Brutus, great job on the Thomas.

Folks from Ioway always exaggerate when telling their "tales". Whistling   Comes from breathing the hog farm bouquet.  In this case it is really over exaggerated due to the lack of oxygen to the brain.  That is the the results of an "over the hill" band teacher who blew his horn too much. Laugh

Need to run some trains and shoot some photos of all the scale NS box cars I have.  A "baked" CA guy told me he had never seen one.

Have a great week ahead.

Good Afternoon from Blueberryhill....

It is hot. 94 degrees. Sunny. Breeze from the west.

Today is a lazy day. Nascar race this afternoon. Ball game. I'll probably watch the race. No train time today. No much else new here.

Dining car was here for the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Not much planned for today. I got all of the benchwork done before I left for work yesterday, so I'll probably spend the day playing Fallout 3.Big Smile I don't have to work until Wednesday, so I am planning on going fishing tomorrow and Tuesday. I need to go through my boxes of track to see what I can salvage also.

 Good morning all:

Chief - The sweating is good for you, just remember to take your salt tablets.

Kurt - Your story about the soffit over the kitchen island reminds me of when we remodeled our kitchen. The carpenter had to put up and take down the soffit three times before the wife was satisfied. When I apologized to the carpenter, he said it all pays the same. He was being paid by the hour.Banged Head

SJ - I never new a kid that didn't like playing in the rain or a sprinkler, especially on a hot day.Cool

Mike C - Could you have the same experience at a NASCAR weekend?Wink

Mitch - Heading for the door while negotiating will work 95% of the time, whether it is a car, furniture, electronics or what. We have had the sales person run after us a number of times with a new offer.Thumbs Up

Fife - Do you know if English found Pot # 10 yet?

After reading the Chief's last post, I was energized (or put to shame) and went out into the heat and humidity this morning before breakfast and planted Mums that have been setting around awhile. Still haven't dried off.Whistling

jonadel - if you consider the Chesapeake part of the intercoastal (I believe it is via the C&D canal), 30 mins from slip.  Perhaps when the boy gets a little older, but then again, not looking to take the Hunter onto big water.

Chief--our temps were 97 with 90% humidity, none of that wimpy Caroliner temps!  If you'd stop drinking all that moonshine you wouldn't sweat so muchLaugh

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Clear and 79 (s'posed to feel like 100 next couple days) here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Hope to get my mom out on the water today, as she has a rather important surgery on Thursday.  Would love to fill her mind with pleasant images of her grandson and son interacting on the Bay.

 Morning to All,

Took quite a while to catch up on the Pot.  Not much happening here. School is gearing up, teachers return in about 9 days, then the fun starts. Nothing on the train front except that The Mrs. and I had dinner last night at a little diner called Hanover Railside that sits near the former Western Maryland Freight station in downtown Hanover PA. The tracks are still active (I suppose CSX) but not much action these days.

Lazy day yesterday. Took the dog to vet.  Had an 11:45 appointment sat in waiting room until 1:00 PM.  What the sense in requiring appointments with that kind of wait. After we were finally seen,  it took less that 10 minutes to check her over and give shots.

88 - glad to see Suzie found a new vehicle. I will not tolerate the "let me check witht he manager technique and will walk if they try it.  I despise shopping for cars.  I love the styling of the Murano. I had a Nissan pickup that had 285K on the odometer when I sold it. Hope she has good luck with it.

Fifey - loved your post about tackling the perps in the Poison Patch. Glad to know an experienced fellow can still bring it on when necessary.

Jon and Sharyl - Happy belated Anniversary. Great to read about the airlift for the WWI vets.

Well, I guess that's all for now.

Take care,

Mitch

The Bridge on (not over) the River Kwai was great. There is nothing like seeing a movie on film. And there is no substitute for technicolor. Went out for dinner, had a caesar salad w/ chicken, but forgot about the croutons. Oops. Felt that one a bit, but not too bad.

Kurt - I looked in my Original MGB book and the two brown colors (or should I say colour) are Bracken or Russet Brown making it a '74 - '80 model. For some reason there was no brown in 1977. Last time I went to the scope, a 1967 Pale Primose Yellow MGB-GT was driving next to me. Just the same as mine, except mine is a '69. If I hadn't known the engine and trans were out, I might of thought someone had my car. The guys at British Car Service knew of it, I sure they know all the regulars in Tucson. Less than 50K GT's were brought to the states, funny that Tucson has 2 of the same color after all these years.

Tomorrow I will finish organizing the  tools and getting the garage together. Wish I had chief's industriousness. Hopefully some engine work this week. If they really want to do this one test, it looks like I will have to go to Phoenix. Well, it would be an excuse to visit Roy's Train World in Mesa.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Back from the lake.  [reason we are so late geting back home, big pig picking birthday party at neighbor's house]  Was a little warm up there.  Especially today.  Mowed my grass and neighbor's [he could not come up this weekend].  Looked like mowing hay as it had finally rained.  Speaking of warm.  Lucy and I worked on a dock section we had pulled up on the bank and then into of common area.  One of the guys and myself had turned it over.  Put floation in [massive chunks of blue styrofoam] which I sawed with handsaw and fitted.  Then covered the bottom with welded concrete reinforcement wire.  Used galvanized fence staples to hold it on.  Then cut some 2X6's and screwed them in.  Went over the whole dock section [16 foot long] with 3" deck screws and secured all the planking.  Now ready to turn over and float out to big dock.  Will add on two sections and extend the whole thing 30'.  Was 95 degrees and 67% humidity.  WhenI finished, was wet from head to knees.  Water dripped from my shirt when I removed it and same for brim of stray hot.  Now a guy in IOWAY whines about a little heat.

Good Evening

Well it rained for eight hours and my Maxwell House rain gauge measured  close to 2 inchs. The kids at the party didn't seem to mind they just played in the rain. Of course you know the rain stopped just as everyone was leaving. I have had my banilla and cake for today but there is plenty of banilla for those who want some....bring on the thingy....

Good evening all,

It was a lot of changing weather in mid north central Ohiozo today.  Today I had a glimpse of heaven.  Wife and I went to Mid-Ohio.  We had food all day, luxurious accommodations at the track, access to a golf cart to drive around in, took part in the pre-reace ceremony, and Ryan Hunter-Reay was 7th quick in qualifications for AJ.  Even tho it was raining part of the day, we never got wet.  No problems with traffic.  If tomorrow is half as good as today, it will be a tremendous weekend.  If I died the day after tomorrow, I would be a happy man.  I had a variety of food on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  You will not need a beacon tonight to find me as you can see the smile 1,000 miles away.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all!

submmbob:  Saw a '78 MGB today, and was thinking of you.  It was a chocolate color I've not seen before.

Brutus:  Thanks for kicking the thingie into stealth.  My Bride was none the wiser.  Can't wait to see the Thomas video!

Doug:  I'll keep my eyeballs peeled!  Nice signs!

Friends over for dinner.  I made Chicken Scalloppinni, grilled corn on the cob, and grilled peaches with a jalapeno, garlic, and peach preserve chutney for dessert, a la mode, of course.  Leftovers in the fridge for the run tonight.  He was working on remodelling their kitchen, and taking down the 2'x8' soffit over the island they just finished...couldn't get it to come down, so he left it until the next day....well it didn't want to wait.  Good thing no one was injured.  I thought they needed some time away from their kitchen.

Helped out with a planetarium show in the morning for a back to school get together. Then off to the church to help the junior warden finish up any last minute stuff. Jeffrey told me the new interim would be arriving any minute. As I was installed a new closer on the carport screen door she drove in. I was thinking, "he wasn't kidding". Seems very nice, but is in for a bit of a climate change being from the Washington area. Cabinet guys aren't quite finished yet, but she is willing to work w/ us for the next few days. Only thing I may being doing is planing down a couple of doors. I'm doing ok w/ whatever this is, just kinda comes and goes and I take it easy when necessary.

Fife - way to go! I bet even Eric couldn't have done thatSmile

Brutus - Thomas and Annie look good!

Well I need to get cleaned up as a friend and I are going to see "The Bridge Over the River Kwai" tonight at the Fox thearter downtown. I've never seen it so it should be interesting. Check back in later.

Good afternoon all, I finally solved the speed control problem on my MTH VO1000 engine with proto 2.  The lines on the tach tape around the flywheel on this engine had faded and in some places disappeared making the engine run out of control.  I ordered a new tach tape from MTH but in the mean time, I took a black marking pen and redrew the vertical lines on the old tape.  It works like a champ now and acts like it has a new tape.  I have another question I should direct to D Baker re Bullfrog Snot.  I know he has tried it.  I have a rubber tire that keeps coming off my MTH Premier Hudson.  Today I tried putting a drop of crazy glue under the tire but it did not get all the way around the wheel.  The tire is holding on but tries to bunch up where there is no glue.  I wanted to ask D Baker if you use the Bullfrog Snot on engine wheels with a groove for a rubber tire, If it will fill in the grove or just coat it?  Rubber tires fill up the grooves and make them flush with the rail.

My number two son, is out of town for a week now so wife and I are home alone again.  We can be lazy now and not have to cook bigger meals for three.  My son went to some kind of train festival in Cincinatti, Ohio yesterday.  Maybe you Ohioians know what that is all about.

No train meets this week and all my friends are busy so we are not getting together around my layout either.  Ran some trains this morning while testing out my VO1000.  I'm looking forward to the arrival of my add on cars from MTH of the 19th Century woodsided passenger cars.  The three car set is a baggage, combine and observation car.  Mine are the NYC&HRR cars.

My number one son and his family returned home yesterday from The Grand Canyon where they rode the train over there.  No steam now but all diesel.  He said they had a 14 car train with two F40PH ex Amtrak units on the point and a HEP car behind the power since the F40's have had the HEP removed from them.  They picked up their pet bird from us that we were baby sitting.  Quiet today without all that bird noise.

Dennis, cheese grits are good but can't say I ever had any fried ones.  I can't eat that stuff now with my no cholesterol, low fat, low carb diet.  The diet is basically, if it taste good, forget it.  Trying to get my triglyceride numbers down along with meds and excercise.

Have a good week end y'all.

It's been quite a while since I posted but I have been keeping up with the posts. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to those who reched special milestones this month. Yesterday was the frist day without rain in Jacksonville in a Loooonnnnngggggg while. Little sprinkle this afternoon.

FedEx delivered three signs from Miller Electric yesterday-New York Central, Pennsylvania Railroad, and Union Pacific Railroad. Mounted all three on a thin strip of wood and mounted the strip on the end of the bookshelves between the living room and dining room. Powered them trough a 120 V adapter that Miller Electric also sent. They turned out well. I may try to post some shots if I can figure out my passwords, etc. First train stuff I have done in quite a while.

Two weekends ago, I flew (yuck) to Pittsburgh, PA, rented a car and drove to Erie for my 50th High School Reunion in Girard, PA. They had one big party for all classes from the mid 1920's through 1961. Saw former classmates, and cousins I hadn't seen in years. Well worth the trip but airline service sure isn't what it used to be, that is, if you stretch the meaning of the word service.

In reference to poison ivy, I have gotten it bad in the past.  Had to go the steroid route.  At this point, not sure if it'll "bloom".  We scoured dilligently when we got back to the station.  Thanks for the tip, d.w.Thumbs Up

Good afternoon!

We spent the morning ripping out about 50' of wooden steps that come up from our driveway to the east entrance, hard work and it is HOT here.  We started early (at 5:00 AM) the temps were at 82 as we knew what was in store around noon.  We almost finished, maybe 8' to go but the heat was just too much and it was noon.  Thanks goodness for a 4 wheel drive truck and heavy tow straps, we had to remove all the treads individually and then I  pulled all the under wood work with the truck, loaded up the remains and took them to our burn pile and unloaded them, took 2 trips.  Landscapers are coming on Wed. and will be here about 10 days, we saved about $800 by removing those old worn out steps but at times when I couldn't see because of the sweat I'm thinking "why"?

Headed for the trainroom in the basement where's it's a pleasant 68, YES Thumbs Up

Good job Fife with the knuckle draggers, I'm sure the rookies appreciated your help.  What a great way to end the day on the water, when we were at the lake earlier this week I looked at sail boats..... not this year for sure---4 season room and landscaping---that's my sailboat!

FIFE, Congratulations on a great grab and the story to go with it.  Regarding Poison Ivy, if you go to the drug store, they have a tube of "Zanfel".  It is expensive at a little over $30 for a 4 oz tube, but if you do it relatively soon after contact, it works.  It is like a scrub for the affected areas.  Worth it to not itch, especially if you have to don a uniform in the next few days.

Well, blue berry cobbler was changed to Peach as bride had picked up a sack of them yesterday.  Came out very well.  I think I'll have one more bowl and head up to the layout.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Kinda overcast & 68 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Pretty interesting day Friday.  Was coming back into the distric t from court, saw a rookie on a traffic stop.  He was by himself so I circled around and pulled up behind him.  Driver had some license problems, and his passenger was a bit mouthy.  By now, another rookie pulled up behind me.  After an exchange of "pleasantries", and noticing the passenger fiddling with his sock, searching commenced.  The second rookie had the passenger, and as he started to pat him down, the guy bolted! Ran straight into the thicket floored wooded area, with the kid behind him, and me.  Kid made a great diving shoe string grab, and held on setting up my instant of glory...  I now know how Ray Lewis feels when he gets in the backfield and has an open blind-sided shot at the Qb.  With ramming speed I left my feet, wrapped him up across the chest and arms, and sacked him good,ApproveYeah!! face down ApproveThumbs UpThumbs Up...right in the middle of a thicket of poison ivy and brambles. Black Eye  Still twitching, the suspect mumbled he couldn't breath, probably because I was still on top of him.  "Good." Big Smile  Okay kid, put the cuffs on him.  Put the cuffs on him. Puuut the cuffs, oh sorry, we were laying on top of the kid.  All on all, guy dumped 8 viles of something, and he is resting at the grey-bar hotel.  Got a compliment from the original rookie, "You move pretty fast"..."kid, I'm amazing under 25 yards..."Laugh

Took 2 other rookies sailing after work, in what could best be termed the perfect sail.  Good winds and pretty weather.  Recounted the days adventures at my favorite Pirate den.  Wifey hasn't asked where all those scratches came from yet.

Morning all.  Brutus, look forward to reports on how Thomas functions with the upgrades.
Wife is making Belgium Waffles for breakfast this morning and then, I will make a Blueberry Cobbler to go with some vanilla Ice Cream.

Last night, we went to a new restaurant in town and had some good vittles.  Had fried cheese grits with bacon and some pork BBQ.  All this is of course not on any diet, but I probably should curtail my taste for the high cal. foods.

Layout work is in order for the day.  I hope to get a lot done, but will have"Help" so we shall see.  Either way, a day spent with family is a good one.

God Bless,
Dennis
