And now for something completely different.  I thought I would share some shots of the garden railroad.  These are taken from the second floor of our house.  I know its a stretch to consider these classic toy trains, particularly since these are only views of the track work, but they are part of the Northwoods Flyer Train Empire Collection.

Extra 4061 bringing some black diamonds across Keystone Viaduct.  That's Wes's B&O hopper up front and in the spotlight today.

Good loking set of MTH fishbelly hoppers in tow as well.

Heading e/b thru Meyersdale, as viewed from over Flaherty Creek.

Emerging out of Knobley Tunnel and passing MY tower.

Heading over the Cumberland Viaduct, as a Trailer Jet toting a CAT PACK waits on the city jct trackage.

...and one last shot crossing State Line bridge, before it begins its long journey west.

Another POST Sunday entry.

RT it appears to me you have more trains than lumber, next stop Lowe's ??

Had another late night arrival in the train room, a couple of weeks ago.  Seems that they always arrive on the layout in the same spot, usually at night !

This particular car arrived really showing all the miles.  Normally, when the cars arrive here they are in need of maintenance, and some minor repair.  But this car could really do for a new paint job considering all the graffiti !  So, directly in to the maintenance shed for all necessary repair.

As much as the Yard Master wanted the car painted, I convinced him that I could get it out of there immediately, thereby avoiding the additional cost.  (No funds were available since all the Stimulus money had already been allocated for the company picnic coming up !)

In order to move the car we literally had to chase some of the workers off the car.

Since the car was going to be here for a month, it was decided we could park it on an abandoned track, located near the brewery.  The car was immediately transferred, and moved early in the morning so as to not attract a lot of attention.

Unbeknown to the track crew, there was a memorial service being held on the abandoned track for a father and a young boy, who had been involved in an accident prior to Father's Day.

They were oblivious  to the unscheduled train activity that was occurring in the area.  As they were heavily involved in chants and song, and they could not hear the approaching car.  As you would expect, the person conducting the service was blind, so he didn't see it either.

As if those factors were not enough for a potential disaster, the group were all members of a religious cult who took part in Smoking Grits!!  As a result, they were all delirious as well !!

The engineer didn't have a spotter out, and it was later determined that he was found Text Messaging, making arrangments for entertainment later that day.

Totally unexpectedly, the car was pushed onto the "Abandoned Track", without regard for the unsuspecting trespassers.

Shortly after the unfortunate "incident" the Fire and Rescue Department arrived on the scene.  They were given total jurisdiction as the NTSB was not available due to cutbacks, and covering numerous other incidents of a more grave nature.

The Fire Department determined that there was not much that could be done, and tried to contact the local authorities.  The local Police Department indicated that there was nothing they could do, and suggested that the authorities from the offending car be contacted.  (As we know, the RR was to be held accountable since the vehicle of "momentum" was owned by the State of OHIO, and that the state would be ultimately responsible).  The entire scene was held secure UNTIL Ohio State Authorities could arrive.

After 3 weeks of waiting, the Ohio Highway Patrol arrived, and investigated the accident.  They determined thru analysis that the additional weight of all the graffiti had caused the problem.  And, as a result, the state was not accountable.  The graffiti was going to be analyized by Homeland Security to determine the various points of origin.

The car was to be returned to Ohio, and any remaining evidence was to remain intact.

Fortunately, a kindly transient was able to gather all the "evidence", wrapped it up and stored it inside the car before it left for its return trip.

Chief,

All of the track stays in place.  It is stainless steel so we don't have any problems with corrosion.  However, the track has all of the issues of a real railroad; washouts and heaving are the biggest issues.  Operation usually shuts down with the first snow fall. We also have to be aggressive in pulling out weeds, and some of the ground covers will invade the track.  In the photos I don't have any of the buildings set out, but they do get pulled in before the first snow flies.  The garden railroad is mainly the work of my son,  We are the biggest purchasers of chicken grit in the county.  No 2 chicken grit works for ballast.

Thanks for the reply.  Good job.  My plans for the lake house garden RR is to copy Buckeye.  Raise the road bed above the ground.  Then the major problem will be deer tripping over it.

BTW: Don, condem the car from Ohizo.  Have it burned or destroyed.  If not, repaint it. WhistlingLaugh

Seeing I didn't have a layout to get in on this I can only say time will probally tell Like when you get it back. Might not be able to get them open seeing all the wrecks and all it has been through. If I remember right it has seen its share along this trip.

RT......After studying the matter, I've noticed that the photographs always show only one side of the car.  I not seen the other side of the car since it left N.C.  Confused

Two of my trains did some travelling today... outside. Here is a standard gauge version of the Welcome Mat Central. Two angles of the Lionel Commodore Vanderbilt overcoming a commuter train led by Lionel no. 8 Perhaps the bride is onboard this train, with the priest and groom waiting patiently for the "coupling." Now they speed away to the honeymoon. I heard the groom say they would go to the Poconos. Here's a solo view of the Commodore.
