Morning All, Heavy rain here today. Guess the Chief must of hit a water pipe with that tunnel.....Whistling [:-^]

Charlie and I had to remove the large layout that had taken over the living room yesterday... Sad [:(]still we have our round the tree loop.

FIL and I planning gamesroom. He has a pool table he has been unable to use due to space so we need to keep a area clear for that. However we still reckon we have enough space for a 16'X 8' layout. I don't think he was quite ready for the sheer size of a 072 outer loop...Smile [:)] Just have to change the postion of the connecting door to the garage....

Morning to all.  Kind of a grey cloudy day in Gettysburg.  No rain yet although forecast for New Years Eve.

Did some inquiring on-line and a local shop has the WM Steamer I am looking for.  I think I will head out in a little while to go pick it up.  I think I will also get a sound activation devise too as I cannot ring the bell on my new Williams GP9 with the PW ZW.

Hope everyone has a good day.  I'll check in later.

Mitch

Good morning,

Cool and Cloudy so far today.  Have to do a little repair work, doll house light to repair and then try to fix a Lemax Toy Store that has about half of the anamation not working, that should be interesting. Wink [;)]

Then I am going to move some of the empty train boxes to the attic to make some room in the basement.  None of them are "collector's items" so if they get damaged by the heat, so be it.

Not to be outdone by Doug, I have a dinner date with my bride after she gets off work this evening.  She did point out that she took "one whole week" of vacation this year, when we were discussing vacation plans for next year.  Maybe we can get in some train travel this year. Approve [^]Big Smile [:D]Smile [:)]Cool [8D]

Chief, It was and 054, left hand switch.  This was the first of about a dozen that I have used to have this problem.  Only other problem I have had, with two others, is burning off the feedthrough printed circuit board under the switch.  It will not stand feeding a high draw train for any length of time.  I now feed the legs separately with wire.  They do provide a solder lug underneath for that porpose, although it is not mentioned in the instructions.

Well, got to check the rest of the forum and then to work.

John - Consider the cruise to Alaska, it is OUTSTANDING !!!

Got another interesting day planned.

First thing have to meet with "El Camino Mike", our PRNDL indicator is not working, he has replacement and WILL install it for $40, need to pick up a new front bumper, he has that too!  Then going to take the car to the paint shop on Tuesday.  Chris bought some side flares for the rocker panels, going to have those added and painted.  Then redo the interior.

After seeing Mike, have to get to the office, and do physical inventory today.  The family coming over to help and have a pizza party as the payoff.  Also, shipping out the BB to MTH, and the 1688 off to Kieth.

Maybe..... some train time this evening, I doubt it though.

Have a great day all!!

The Lemax Toy Factory that you have to repair, is it the one with the belt on an angle that moves with the toys on it?  I have that problem and thought about either using some belt dressing, or perhaps adding an idler pulley in line.

On other fronts, the bride is working today and I will have them at home after I leave the hospital, so if any train work, it will be tonight.  This weekend is dedicated to the layout, so I hope to get plenty of work done (hopefully without the use of blasting caps like the ChiefWink [;)]).  I may take a break to actually get into the woods and put a hurting on Rudolph....it's OK, Christmas is over.

Anyway, look forward to the weekend.  Hope everyone has a great day.

Morning [I guess].  Wife is home and screws up my routine.  Be glad when she goes back to work. Wink [;)]  John, I will look for lug.  I am feeding power to the switches from a KW at 16 V.  14 V seemed not to work too great.  Ran a red wire under both sides of the layout and a black common too.  Feeding taps from those.  Got to take down outside Christmas today.  Jim A left work for Dr.  Not doing well at all [especially if he leaves work].  Going into the mid 60's today and tomorrow.  Later.

Hey all!

A quick heads up regarding this thread.  I know it's been over 2 years and there is a lot of history here.  It's great to see such an active discussion like this.  These long discussion threads do impact forum performance over time and at some point we need for it to be continued in a new thread.  Due to the size of this thread and the number of posts, I'm asking that you start a new one for 2007. With the new year approaching, it's as perfect time as ever to do this.

Thanks & Happy New Year!

Off today.  Wife driving her mom to winter in Florida and my wife will fly back in a week.  I have to repair an underground feeder to the garage and darken the stain on a couple of book cases I'm making.  Got a new to me 282 so I want to start testing/refubing it when outside work done.  Spose to be in the 60's and sunny.  Hope so.  Makes digging more pleasant.

Lisa-n-N.C.

I have three post war 275 ZW transformers, one of which is for operating backup if needed or,for round-the-Christmas tree operating, etc. One other ZW is disassembled on the workbench receiving diodes[replacing horn/whistle rectifiers].

Both of my layouts are now TMCC, powered by 180 watt/135 watt Power Houses linked to TPCs. For this reason I can give you one of the ZWs if you want it. I used to run my 5-track shelf layout here in the Banner Elk mountain house with the three ZWs.

I have one stored somewhere in Greensboro or Summerfield that Harry Henning (Pa.) refurbished a couple of years back. I can get it to you late next week or drop it off at Jeff's Store for pickup since you work in Winston. {I still attend Cardiac./Pullmonary Rehab at Cone Hospital on Tues/Thurs---you know, the "torture Nurses" and exercise maniacs}

As Chief and other pw 275 users will tell you these old transformers are "bulletproof "and when refurbished are good for many years of operation. The 275 rating is wattage input, but the output is 180-90 watts at continous running. That wattage capacity and two main hrottles[A&D] enabling two separate ovals or power districts later, plus throttles[B&C] for accessory[or train] operation should take care of you for awhile.

Let me know how to proceed.

Acknowledging Mr. Voss's post, in respect to Chief Cutie Pie, Frank should enter the last post to this thread and he should start the new 2007 Coffee Pot thread.

Well, the Boss has spoken.  I will post New Years night and then start a new 2007 Coffee Pot.  Then maybe management will lock the old one.  They have been very nice to let us rant, rave and carry on where other fourms would not have allowed.

Now for news.  Jim A has pneumonia.  Dr. sent him home.  Of course he went by the train store and picked up the BOYS' new engine to run for THEM.  Dr. told him that if he had waited until next Tuesday, he would have been hostipalized.

Did get to go to the pond and shoot a few PICTURES [fooled you John B Wink [;)]].  Missed photoing some deer.  Was shooting pohtos of rocks and they were standing and watching.  They suddenly took off and too much wooded area to take photos.

Spillway rebuilt by me and hand mixed concrete on the spot using pond water.

One of the many rocks on the property along the creek behind the pond dam.

Well I better get a few words in before the new Coffee Pot opens up.  Made the journey to Mainline Hobby in Blue Ridge Summit. I picked up the Lionel WM 4-4-2 Steamer from the latest catalog.  I had $$$ burning a hole in my pocket.  After I had some lunch, I put the steamer through it's paces.  It ran great and smoked good too.  It is a low-end model with an air whistle, but I like it.  I also ran a variety of other WM diesels including the Plymouth Switcher, GP9, Beep, and BL2.  Ran trains for about 2 hours in total, then the dog and I came in to read the newspaper and took a little siesta until the Mrs. came home.

My son is in the other room fiddling with building a new computer,  I hear some bad words once in a while so I guess it is not going according to his plan.  Of course it might go smoother if he took the time to read the directions.  Ahh to be young and bold again.

If I don't get a chance to post until the New Year, I wish each and everyone of you a very Happy New Year.  See you at the fresh brewed Coffee Pot.

Mitch

Well, I guess summer is coming. Sunny and 70 degrees. I was sitting out on the porch with the boys. Great.

Thank you, David Voss, for letting us post here. You are right.....there is a lot of history here. I speak for one person that really appreciated this thread last Spring. I hope that there is some way to preserve it.

Jim ( jaabat )....You'd better do what the Doctor says. It's now a serious illness. Get well soon.

Marty, you cranking up for more travel?  I don't until Jan 8 [to NH] and then suppose to have another break until Feb. 15 [Orlando].  Sure seems good.  The train money is beginning to run a little thin now [switches and track and all].

I'll take a cup, Marty, it's not New Years yet - I like that Frank will end and begin a new 'coffee pot' thread.  Jim A., take care of yourself - pneumonia is no joke...

Had a good 'date day' with the bride - drove up to Hebron, Illinois - a tiny town whose claim to fame is winning the 1952 state basketball championship - to browse a few antique stores - saw a somewhat beat-up Marx train for $60 and lots of MPC-era Lionel for $30-60. Passed on it all - though now I wish I had gone back for the C&NW Line Maintenance car. Then drove to Woodstock - the town featured in the movie Groundhog Day - while the bride shopped and finally to a local bookstore to pick up a new calendar.

You kidding?  I leave Jan 2nd right off to Sacramento.  Then the next week to Phoenix and then off to Dallas for the NHL All Star Game.  It's a busy January for me.  The good news is that there will be NO Super Bowl in my schedule this year!

Ouch!

Mr. Voss - any way to lop off and archive the thread and let us continue with the post and replies count as recorded at the end of 2006? It is fun to see the amount of posts and their progress with time.

Just back from Scout Camp. Had a great time and it was tough to leave before it was over. However - I missed the rain that is pounding us now (a good thing) and the Scout Camp. I implored my son to prepare and he of course ignored me. Now he gets to learn the hard way!

Gotta rest up.

Regards, Roy

Hi Guys!

It's been awhile but I seem to have conquered my computer problems...just buy a new one!  It took time to figure out I was no longer registered here so I re-entered my info and now I'm able to post again.  I hope everyone had a great holiday season and I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year.

I've been busy with renos on the kitchen and I can safely say I see the light at the end of the tunnel.  A little finishing of the trim and the only major thing left to do will be new flooring.  So, you must be thinking " what a thoughtful and considerate guy he is doing all those renos so that his wife will have a comfy kitchen!"  Well, I must confess I have alterior motives.

You see the kitchen demolition also included a whole reworking of the stairs to the basement...basicly repositioning them 180 degrees then building stairs up to the until recently inaccessable attic.  I bet you all see where I'm going!  I have effectively opened up roughly 500 sq. ft. of useable space.  Albeit a bit lacking in head room I can stand up in the middle where the roof peaks.  And it's all mine!  All mine I say!

Once I rough in the walls and isulate it'll be easier to invision what type of layout design will suit best.  I image it'll have to be around the walls but I'd like to expand into the center with a pennisula or two.  It's given me something to look forward to in the new year.

Anyhoo, it's great to be back in the pot again.  Cheers everyone!

Worked on the client's layout today, IT IS OPERATIONAL!!!!

We test ran one of his locos, 2-8-2, for about a 1/2 hr., I don't know if he's afraid to run his trains or what, but I couldn't get him to take the controller and when I was done for the day the engine went back in the box.  I know if I was building a new layout and it reached the stage of running trains the tracks would be filled.  Next step is working on scenery, continuing with scratch building, repainting engines and cars to SAL, and more.  At least I've managed to get him doing the ballasting and grassing.

I've decided to retire, again on Jan. 11, at least I might have some time to spend on my layout and getting some long put off work done around the outside.  I just wonder how long before I get bored again and look for another part time job.

Good evening,

Got my little jobs done and then took a train off the layout and added one.  Also took some items, that I never run,  out of the display case and boxed them up.  Put them on shelves for now, may decide to sell.

Jim A, Take care of yourself.

Roger B, I posted some info for you on Don's VHS to DVD thread.  BTW I will be retired 6 years on Sunday and have not been bored for a minute so far.  My problem is that I can't find enought time to do everything I want to do.  Are you going to repaint the engines yourself, I would never attempt that, not much of a painter.

Chief, I have been using a 1033 putting out 16 volts to power my Realtrax switches since I built the layout.  I thought I might have a problem with the lamps going out in the switches but in 6 years I have never replaced one.  Will be watching for the new thread on Jan 1.

Anyone watching bowl games?  Just watched the South Carolina and Huston game.  It was the best one I've watched so far this year.  The long layout between the regular season and the bowls sure doesn't help the teams stay sharp.

Well today and this weekend just got really sucky.  Just got a call from work 2 hours ago.  I'm heading to Denver for a football game unless the truck that is supposed to do it gets going again.  This has ruined my weekend.  As much as I hate to say it there was a full crew there this A.M. that nobody bothered calling so they all went home.  I'll be there solo pretty much for an NFL game.  Sorry to rant but man this just sucks.

It will be a testament to the fine folks here that a new thread needs to be started as so many have stopped by and had a cup with the Chief and the rest.  I look forward to returning to the new pot of coffee when the new year arrives.  Thanks Chief for starting and continuing this thread and thanks to CTT for allowing it.  Should I not be back on till '07, y'all have a safe and happy holiday.
