Good evening,
I actually did some train work today. Finished rerouting the loop that I've had a problem with being to close to the outside loop. Now and then a sideswipe situation. No more.
Added a front coupler to one of my MTH Railking decapods. Now I can doublehead them. Here is a pic of the new coupler.
It you would like to see the doubleheaders in operation, check out this u-tube.

I will try to do a few more of my steamers.
Patrick! Great site and great guys, you will love it!
Kids were off school, but wife needed to take off to get her van fixed (cold zapping the battery) and so just let her take the whole day off while I went to work. Got to meet a new co-worker, who seemed very nice. Got my 806 Catlle Car in the mail - very good shape, a few scratches in the paint, but needs to be cleaned - looks like it was in the bottom of a drawer or something and got a lot of debris on it from other cars - tiny little pieces of paint and metal just laying inside it?
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Patrick, Sorry I forgot to you to the coffee pot. Always glad to have another MTH fan - just kidding, I have all brands. BTW is the 12 X 24 all layout? That would be a nice size. Mixing TMCC and DCS is not a problem, only thing you can't do is double head engines of the two different systems. I run them both on the same mainline with no problems, at least very few problems. Do you ever get up to the TCA show at York? A group of us from the forum get together each York with the guys from CTT. If you are not a TCA member, that can be arranged.
John, just watched the movie - excellent! Good job, sir!
Tardis is warmed up and I've got hot cocoa or cold beer, take your pick! Banilla sounds good, wonder if there is any more pineapple upside down cake? Zuchini bread? One way to find out?

Looks GREAT!! Hope you had a few YUENGS? Lots o smoke.

HI GYZ,
Ran trains for 2hrs. NO PILE UPs!!!!!! Ran Rotary Tipple for a few loads NO PROBLEMs!!! ALL is GOOD with DA WORLD!!!!! Going to watch BARRETT AUCTION.
Laz, Just one Heineken.
Buckeye's going to be a Grandpa? Boy am I behind on my posts. Congratulations! Sir James and I will give you some tips on watching the little one, especially the ones that will drive your wife and kid nuts. Payback is a ..... !
DougM.....beer froze in your garage? Very sad but totally senseless.. The temps here last night were -4, but my garage temp was 27 and the unheated basement 53. Next time, think ahead and suck them down. It's a sin to waste. It is a mortal sin to waste perfectly good beer.
Our household is no longer dogless. The newest addition to the household: Maximus. He's 3 months old and got the runs following his first trip to our vet. Last night/early this morning I found myself bolting outside with him at 2am in my pajamas with -4 temps. No vasectomy necessary! Wow, was that an eye opener. Then I slept downstairs on the sofa just to make sure I was near the door with the pup if there was a repeat performance. Got me to thinking about Chief's dog Lucy's recent stomach upset and was about to ask wifey if she had overdone it with the doggy treats. Then the self preservation mode kicked in, and I said nothing.
Brent......hope SizieQ's interview went well. And prayers for your brother's friend. I went to a church group meeting last week and learned of the suicide of a member. I was stunned. Very nice man with whom I had a friendly chat a week earlier. Just wish he had asked for help, or even hinted he was struggling. I guess if we have not been there we can't fully understand or even recognize the signs of depression this deep and consuming.
On the topic of fuel oil prices for heating, I'm paying $2.85/gallon up here and read somewhere that 80% of the supply comes from the US and the remaining 20% from Canada. Sir James, you mentioned that your natural gas furnace is 92% fuel efficient and that the furnace keeps kicking on every 5 minutes, keeping you awake. With these frigid temps, the lack of the sound of it coming on is what would keep me awake.
Ran some trains tonight and really enjoyed the state of mind it put me in. The old 2046 Hudson just keeps giving. Wife got annoyed when I got whistle happy and the puppy awakened from a nap, became alert at the "new" noise, then decided it was time to run around the house at full speed. Suffered a wiring failure in the 2031s' dummy unit which was shorting out the track, original wires. They don't build them like they used to. Ran my 2348 Minneapolis & St. Louis for the first time in a lot of years.
Spent some time last night trying to pack away the remaining Christmas decorations in the wife-designated closet. She was complaining about the stuff still lying on the hallway floor, so I opened the closet door for her and asked for suggestions as she stared at floor to ceiling boxes. I couldn't get a grain of salt in there. She keeps acquiring new stuff even though we could not possibly use half of what we have. And as you know, you can't get rid of anything because all of it is considered "keepsakes." Just as long as my Hallmark and other train related ornaments are safe and secure, I am satisfied.
Have a great weekend everyone. And don't let the frostbite bite.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good Grief Charlie Brown, took forever to get in tonight !!!!!
What a day at the museum, , between turnout issues and other derailment issues I am pooped.
Laz, Wow the prices at Barratt-Jackson went thru the roof tonite compared to tues thru thurs. The one that really surprised me was a 1960 Dodge Panel Wagon, $33K . Earlier in the week they had one that I would have loved to have been able to bid on, it was a 1929(?) Dodge Depot Hack, one of the last models done by the Dodge Bros. Kind of an early version of a shuttle, went for a great price, would have been a great set of wheels for a parade.
P.S. How in the world are they going to auction-off that Ford Tri-Motor, just gotta see them roll that across the stage.......

Good Morning all from cold Southern Ohio
Welcome to the pot
Getting ready to leave for work. It is 4F outside. The grandkids are with us and we had fun when I got home last night. All is good.
May God bless
Jim
Wow! 0 degrees, -7 wind chill, this AM on the farm. Nor used to this here in VA. Turned the kitchen stove fan on last night to keep the pipes from freezing. Fan exhausts down under the floor to the outside past the kitchen pipes. No basement so the crawl space gets cold. Need to check the cows waterer as soon as it is light.
Brutus, jsfelectric, dwiemer - Thanks for the welcome.
jefelectric - The 12' X 24' building is all layout except for 3' on the door side and 3' at one end for a work area. I will eventually mix DCS and TMCC, but sticking to DCS for now. I haven't been to the TCA show, but may go this year. I understand MTH is well represented there. Do you need to be a TCA member to attend the show?
RockIsland52 - Congrats on the new puppy Maximus. We have had 6 dogs over the years. None now, but having buries 6 I think we will wait a while (if ever) before we have another. The Mrs. has an unknown number of cats on the farm, some pets, some wild, 2 in the house.
Well, if I don't have to repair frozen pipes or electric fences outside, or work to start the tractor, I plan to work in the train building wiring some houses and landscaping them.

RFD-TV --- Rural America's most important network!
Well guess MILLERBURG, PA got into the big time we just went under 0 at -5 this morning in my back yard. Now I know what it feels like.
JELECTRIC, at least you grabbed a HIENY!
DOUGS NOT A GRUMP, yes watching BARRET JACKSO eary in the week was quite a few bargins. Seems like friday and saturday brings out alot of the big spenders with money to burn. Last year watched BJ on sunday afternoon and they had a bunch o trucks cheap. The one I remember was a 32 Dodge PU that went for 33k. Totally awesome not all original, maybe 80% but what the heck for a '32 at that price.
Gonna work on new layout later today,
Stay FROSTY,
Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Sunny and a whopping 2 degrees in the Mid-Atlantic region...and I'm getting used to it... Black helicopters already passed over, headed N/E. Two big events in Baltimore today, President Elect coming to town (can't wait for that photo-op with Sheila...), and #2 daughter's SWEET 16 (for which I was mercifully granted leave).
Wow, miss a day = miss a lot 'round here.
First off ----> Culpepper (just fun to say) . Throw us some pics of your layout "palace" on SPF. Believe it or not, lots of guys like to follow along from the ground up.
RockIsland - Maximus Plopimus in the Extremous...
laz - Thanks for the YING "tip". With these extreme temps, would one's lips freeze to the bottle or can faster...
88 - Best o' luck to the "Q"...
Hey, speaking of NASA, caught the movie "OCTOBER SKY" the other night. Great "guy" flick, with some pretty good railroad action in the backdrop. (2 Paws up)
Ole Timer - If you reside in MARTYLAND, you already know there are lots of vacant housing sites to choose from in Central/South America...
Good one FIFE, these things to ponder do have some merit. Might have to do some experimenting?
Oh yea, PATERICK, from CULPEPPER. Does sound fun.
Morning, guys - coffee tastes great this morning. 22 degrees in St. Louis now, but it was below zero last night. Maybe that super-cold is on the way out?
We're havin' a heat wave... a tropical heat wave. Supposed to go up to 18 or so today. I was going to the Whelling show but after going last year and really not needing anything it's a bit far for the size of the show. Maybe if it was a warmer day.
I suppose I'll spend the time in the cellar.

Morning all!
dadurling, Patrick L, Welcome! Lots of good advice here, and some even train related, we've grown into quite a family.
Jon: Mr. Wizard trick a success! John: Great looking coupker addition!
Cold Cold here. Made a run to Meijer for buttermilk for pancakes this am...Car barely started @ -10.
Gearing up for train show tomorrow. Sir James, Charlie: What time are yoose planning on attending?....Need to find some more scenery stuff...
Oh my....4-yo just showed up with underwear on her head....Where's my camera.
Have a small group of 18 friends over for Superbowl. One friend's 8-yo really likes trains, so I'm trying to get things organized for them to run. I keep giving him HO stuff at Christmas for his loop at home.
Working on some standing water areas on the layout today.
Kurt
All's well with the cows, water pipes and electric fence.
Came in for a cup of coffee, especially good this AM, and to watch "Trains and Locomotives" on RFD-TV at 9:00 AM here in the East. One of their better weekly shows. Lots of steam action and great track side landscaping ideas, and in color. Section crew of 40-50 men replacing track, wooden passenger cars, hand crank crossing gates and using track torpedoes.
laz57 - Thanks for the welcome.
Now out to the train building for some serious work!
kpolak - I missed your Welcome. Thank you. I have followed this thread for some time, and agree it has lots of good advice, train and otherwise, a lot like the morning coffee group at the local family restaurant.
GoodMorning All
R.I., that furnace has saved me lots of money on my gas bill but has the nasty habit of breaking down at nite. It did make it through last winter in one piece but I have lost track of the cold mornings we've had. And yes I am THANKFUL every morning that the thing is still working. Very loud exhaust blower.
A ford Tri-motor eh, first plane I ever flew in, from Sandusky to Middle bass island Ohio. It lifted so slow I thought we were going to have to use push poles to get it in the air.
And as all grandfathers know, you are gaining a grandchild, but losing a wife.
Soaring to 20 degrees today annd already snowing again.
Kurt, noon time at the Glancy layout....TTFN..S.J.

Patrick, Sent you an email about York and my usual TCA sales pitch.
Now to grab some lunch.
sir james I GoodMorning All ...........And as all grandfathers know, you are gaining a grandchild, but losing a wife.
...........And as all grandfathers know, you are gaining a grandchild, but losing a wife.
Sir James and Buckeye......re the loss of the wife, an upside to everything! My wife actually enjoys seeing my granddaughter having fun With Grampy Jack. With my 5 year old mentality, my granddaughter and I communicate well and have lots of fun.
Wecome Patrick!
Kurt.......the 4 year old running around with underwear on her head. Hmmmmmm, don't have to ask where she learned that. And you thought she didn't pick up on your antics.
Fife.......sweet 16, can remember it well. My stomach starts churning at the thought of it. Driving cars and boyfriends to set straight. And schoolwork that starts to take on lesser importance.
Just a note to check in with the Pot. Have'nt been on here for a while. I finished putting together my Walt Disney Railroad Station from WDW in Florida that I got from E Bay. It is a beauty and easy to assemble with snap together construction.
I just heard that Fullerton Railroad Days, a railfair, here in Southern California has been discontinued after several years of operation each May with participation by BNSF, Amtrak, Metrolink and others. Seems like the economy, local politics and lack of funding to build a proposed railroad museum at the location brought on this decision. Sorry to see it go. Heaven knows there are not enough railfan and model railroad events in this neck of the woods.
Still have not resolved my telephone problem after two plus weeks. Have finally identified which company is responsible after going to California Public Utilities Commission. I talked to the phone company yesterday and they are to get back to me. I missed their call, called back, no response, will have to wait until Monday now. Have a good week end Y'all.

Evening all. Welcome Patrick! Spent the past seven-and-a-half - count 'em, seven - hours at a wrestling meet in Woodstock (set of the movie Groundhog Day) to watch my son. I think he appreciated it. Still has yet to win a match but he's only been doing this for a month or so. Did I mention I ran off to the LHS for a sec - just to look - somehow a K-Line water tower (only $20) found its way in my hands. The bride is feeling a bit out of sorts though we're still supposed to go to friends for supper tonight. Bought some new beer too to atone for my sin of wastage...

Jack, congratulations on getting another dog....I didn't want one when we lost our two, Kim kind of forced the issue and I am glad she did. I still miss the two we had, but it is great to have the one we have now too.
Patrick, glad you are here. Lots of good folks here.
Wife just told me she was reading the instructions on her hair straightener....they warn: "Do not use while sleeping", Well, Ok then....
John, that double header looks great...at least what I can tell through all that smoke!
Well, I waisted a good portion of the day on a much needed nap. Just got off the phone with the guy we hired. Should have his state medical license by now.....have to check, but it will be a welcome relief when he is here and ready to go. Smart guy, renting a house till he can get a good feel for the area and where he wants to purchase.
Hope y'all have a great weekend.
Dennis

Welcome Patrick!! You'll have a good time here...
Quick synopsys for the day then I'm off to Panera for soup and bread - wife & son out for dinner, daughter at sleep over.
Worked at the LTS today, (Jim Phish!!) cleaned & lubricated a AF engine & tender today runs great, customer should be happy. Got a Lionel Line Trainsounds tender up and runner, Have problems on 2 MTH engines (exploded condensors). Had a kids party in the exhibit and had a great time answering questions from the kids and Moms (no Dads).
Doing a load of laundry, cleaned up the layout and found more room on the shelves and cabinets to get some of the rolling stock put away.
Glad to see Jack posting again. Up to 50 today, was 17 last night, possibly down to 30 tonight. A 2 quilter fer shere!!!
I'll check in later, stay warm.
And no Barrat Jackson for me thanks...makes me sick My Roadrunner convertible is probably worth $100,000 but I'll keep it anyway...

I guess I should have turned it down to medium with them both running together. I do love my smoke though.
Evening all!
Weird weather here. First soccer game of my son's tournament was Fri night at 6 pm - it was 38 degrees. Wore the long johns, 2 sweaters, 2 pairs of socks, and heavy coat with hoodie and after an hour fingers and toes were numb. Next game was this morning at 7 am - it was 46 degrees - was able to shed a sweater for this one. Next game today was at 4 pm - 65 degrees - a sweater and a windbreaker did the honors.
Mike C - you guys for soccer season at least have a snow blower right?
Supposed to be very nice tomorrow. 60's again. Big train show here and I am working it for our club all day - get to run trains on the display layout and some show duties. Should be fun!
Doug M - I assume it has been so cold up there this year no point in talking about it any more. Bring on the global warming!
Have a great day tomorrow all!
Regards, Roy
Good Evening All
I sat on the couch reading and watching TV today as I looked out and watched it snow and snow and, well you get the idea, its still at it. Weather guessers say we have already doubled our average for the year. Just my luck, I hate this stuff. No real training today, a little fussin but that was it. Big Big train show tomorrow but I'm not sure how all this snow will affect the show, I have banilla in hand and a spot to land the thingy so Brutus come on over here. S.J.
Howdy guys - nothing much here today. Hung out while kids were cleaning house, then took my boy with me to Home Depot to pick up some drywall and stuff. Got one of those sponges to try in the closet - Kurt and my other friend Jeff both liked them, so might work for me too? Tomorrow will be busy with emptying and then drywalling the inside of the big storage closet for my wife. She wants her stuff put away for the year, so she will help me organize it all as we do it I hope.
Smoke 'em if you got 'em, John!
Tardis is ready - got up nearly to 50 here in the St. Louis area, so it should be warmed up and got a new battery for it yesterday since Mike said he thought it was turning over a little slowly when we were leaving Jim's the other night. RT found a good deal on it for us.
