I recently relocated to Mountain View, CA in the Bay Area.  But haven't set up a new layout here yet, so am currently only lurking and waiting for more space to become available so I can get back into it.

My tag is a clue: The proper state motto of NYS is The Empire State.

Ah, but what rises also can fall. Hence my humorous take "The Roman Empire State."

NYS once had a manufacturing output that equalled that of other nations... now we're lucky to have the jobs we have now. Elmira was once the fire truck headquarters of the entire world.... that's long gone. We had the world's largest single facility food processing plant right in my area, torn down and which is now a super Wal-Mart... another sign of the times. The "Corning" hoppers still so popular in the 3-rail world have now been replaced with leased less obvious plain grey cars, with only a small note that they are leased to Corning. And actually Corning Glass (Pressware) now belongs to World Kitchen.

But we have loads of railroad history, along with Pennsylvania. Which explains my obvious affection for the Lehigh Valley, Erie Lackawanna, Penn Central, Conrail and Norfolk Southern. I had realtives that lived in the Reading, PA. area, so I have an affection for the Reading too. And the New Haven.... that comes from Lionel. But the Lehigh and Conrail will always share the number one spot for me.

I still like the Pennsy and Central, but not as much only because they seem to be so over done in current starter set types of items.

Near Rolla, MO.  We have a small club and two shops that handle some sort of trains, one a little HO, the other one O (but his hours are sporadic).  There is a smattering of all gauges in the area.

For the trivia buffs:  Rolla was the railhead of the SW Branch (Became the Frisco) of the Paciic RR (became the MoPac) during the Civil War.  Two forts and up to 20,000 Federal troops defended this bastion of the Union.

Boonter, with all the rumbling in the Reno area you could end up a little farther north or south whichever way the plates slide.

I'm in the Sandy Eggo area of SoCal.

Northeast Taxachussetts, about a mile from the pond as the crow flies and just up the coast from Salem MA., the Witch City.  I'm fortunate to live within 12 miles of Charles Ro Trains (Malden MA) and 6 miles from Northeast Trains (Peabody MA).  I did a search and don't find any 3 rail O gauge clubs close by.

Prompted by the question about our ages, I wonder where most of us are located.  I note many posts from the middle west and southeast.  Also south.  I am located in Northern Californis and have seen only one other post from up here.  Sad to say that my area is lacking in sources for trains and train related items.  If it wasn't for this forum I'd feel like a total loaner!
