We are the smallest town in Wake County but the fastest growing. Our boundries are Wake Forest to the west and Raleigh to the south. Now forum wise, it is Roseyville. The great leader of the South. Where grits and sweet ice tea are required. If you are a Yankee, be careful, you might get ridden out of town on a rail after being dipped in tar and rolled in feathers. This is the treatment for all carpetbaggers. If you are from Ohio, you already have two strikes against you.

Just like CA. Trying to copy the great state of NC. Everyone knows that Ft. Bragg is in NC.

Wow! I really love the descriptions of your areas. What a varied bunch we are. Seems like the train shops are more plentiful in the east and middle states. My closest is in Napa, Ca. about eighty miles.
My town, Ukiah is about 125 miles north of 'Frisco. We have a rail line running through, and a fine old station just sitting there. No current trains, but a lot of hopeful talk about a commuter service. Yhe rail line is owned by the North Western Pacific RR. I hope, I hope, I hope to ride that line someday!!!
Formerly from the Bronx but for the past 18 years in Putnam County, NY about 45 - 50 miles north of NYC.

For you southeast Florida guys, I am located between Wellington & Lantana near TP exit 93. Been down here in Florida(not at the same place for the whole time in FL) for almost 24 years now after getting out of the US army in 1983.
Lived in Stratford CT for about 10 years as a child, also lived in Reading PA for about 9 years, then went into the army. My favorite railroad is the Reading Railroad.

I live in northeast Illinois and work 46.5 miles away by the UP timetable in Chicago, the railroad capital of North America, where I get to spend 3 hrs a day on a train.

I live in Shelbyville, TN it's located in southern middle Tennessee area, and it's about 80 miles from Chattanooga.I do feel somewhat like a loner since no one else in my family is interested in trains. Oh well, too bad I guess. My town is located in Bedford county, and it's shaped like the state of Ohio.

Delaware, OH, just north of Columbus. We prefer oatmeal over grits up here. Cinnamon tastes terrible in grits.

I am, like anjdevil2, in Jacksonville, (South Georga or North Florida) depending on your view point. But, unlike Rich, I'm glad I am here. The call for me to move to Jacksonville was a very cold February day in Kenton, Ohio. My future headmaster offered me a job on the phone and remembered to tell me it was sunny and 73. When I received the call, it was -20, with 6 inches of snow on the ground, and a nasty wind. I grew up just West of Erie, PA in the snow belt and I don't miss the cold and snow one bit. As a matter of fact, when it gets in to the 50's, I start looking for warm clothes to wear.

San Jose, CA population as of this week 1,000,000 people according to the stats. Tenth largest city in the US. Forty five years ago we use to have a round house, yards, factorys, railroading, the works. Now its all silicone buildings, no trains. After growing up here from a small kid, my love for trains have never died. Yes, I do miss the excitment of train dealers but one by one they all left but one. Reuben

Currently, the body is residing in Jacksonville, Florida (but by the Grace of God and the Saint Mary's River, it'd be Jacksonville, GEORGIA!!!) Home of CSXT and a mere 30 minutes north of the HQ of The Florida East Coast Rail Road. My heart and soul (but fortunately, not my tax money) is in New Jersey (WHAT? You didn't notice the handle?) Great Grandpop Aleini worked for the Standard of the World, the great Pennsylvania RailRoad. WE ALWAYS hated the NYCentral....Lived near the NorthEast Corridor most of my life, saw the transition from PRR to PC to Amtrak & Conrail. Have an affinity with the Jersey Central & the Camden & Amboy. Where I used to live, the John Bull made regular trips through the town. Some of the trackage and right of way can still be seen. Pretty much owned by NS now. The Sleepers are still there....

Boonter, you really should not feel isolated. I am in the Eastern Netherlands (an oasis in a Lionel desert). The closest friend in this hobby is 100 miles away, the first 0-3-rail club is across the channel and the closest shop selling 0-3-rail items is about 300 miles. That is why internet is great and makes it possible to share hobby thoughts.
