5 years of fun!
Posted by Model A on Saturday, March 22, 2008 10:23 AM

Hi Guys!  Here are pictures of my layout.I have been working on this since my retirement (5 Years).  Most of my trains are from the early 50's.  My buildings and signs and some of the vehicles are hand made.  I converted small pick-up trucks into utility type vehicles. I made most of my buildings in module form so that I can change them in the future if I need to move them around.  My roadbed is black foam board and I used pin striping tape to make the lanes.  The roads are also movable. The mountain over the upper track is of a fiberglass shell construction and is also very light and moveable making it easy to work on. The lights are LED's and small bulbs for street lights and buildings.  It has been a learning experience and a real challange to accomplish this.  Oh Yeah and a lot of fun!.  Hope you enjoy my pictures. Thank You  Model A

Beautiful, inspiring work! I like the trees, the trolley and the way the accessories fit into your scheme. It must be fun to run it.

Wow, that is pretty spectacular. I especially like the curved masonary viaduct.

It is quite obvious that you have gained a lot of valuable information in this layout journey.  Please share your tips on scratch building.  It is always great to see someone who has developed expertise by spending time and effort with trial and error.  It is in stark contrast to someone who goes up the street to get trains fixed and then has the audacity to tell others how they are supposed to do repairs.

Thanks for sharing,

Dennis

Very, very nice. I like that photo with the bucket truck and the road work going on. You have a great eye for creating scenes. And those dirty, spotted, cluttered roadways.... very nice.

 Hi GUYS

I FIND THAT MAKING  THINGS  FROM SCRACH IS ONE OF THE FUN  PARTS OF THE HOBBY .

YES THE STEET LIGHTS WORK . GOT A RED FLASHING LED AND YELLOW LED IN A SMALL BLOCK OF WOOD .I USED A SODASTRAW FOR THE WIRES . WOODEN 3/8 DOWL FOR POLES . . THE ARCHED CURVE BRIDGE IS CARD BOARD COVERED WITH A ROCK WALL MOLD AND BONDO . I LIKE FIBER GLASS AND BONDO THEY DRY FAST .

BYE BYE  FOR NOW MODEL A

That's a very nice layout and I enjoyed looking at it. I'm sure it's even more fun to run it. Sounds like you and Tim Allen may have the same motto: If you didn't build it, it's not really yours. But your results are better.

I've been working for parts of five years on my layout, if I count three years of false starts. Mine's not nearly as nice. Thanks for sharing!

Great track plan.  Allows for a few trains running at once while also giving the ability to do a lot of route changes and switching.  Scenery looks great as well.  My 2 favorite parts are the stone bridge and the coal mine scene.

Thanks for sharing and for some good ideas for my layout when I get to scenery.

Model A......5 Years of Fun and many more to come!  Great layout.  Thanks for sharing the pictures which I have viewed several times.

Could you give us the layout dimensions?  I like the way you have layed out the track so you can segregate or mix running trains, and the space you have to create your scenes.

Would love to hear what engine and rolling stock treasures you have "from the 50's.
