Noticed that your profile does not have much in it.  Where is home?  What do you do?  Got a layout?  With the handle RockIsland52, I figure you are a Yankee and probably a New England one too. Shock [:O]  Glad to have you around.  Just like to get to know folks.  Later

You guys already know all that stuff from my posts, including my age, where I live, the neighborhood I grew up in, the REAL trains that ran near my house as a boy, the trains brand and models I have and at what age I received them, and those trains of 2 buddies, my favorite train shop, my preference for medical products as tools for working on trains, what of mine was broken then subsequently fixed, the local floods of 05, the most cars my trains have ever pulled, my layout and how/where it was set up, my kids, and my grandchild.......what more could you possibly want to know?  You almost know more about me than my wife does!Wow!! [wow]

Yow!

True, I'm not a Yankees fan and the Rock Island RR is near and dear to my heart.  You don't know where I can get an original operating horn for a 2031, do you? Jack.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] I don't know jack either, but I do know Laz, Chief, Chuck, Tom, Greg, Doug, Wes, Roy, John, Don, Mitch, Kurt, Magic, Colin, Bob, Chuck, Mike, Marty, Bill, Jim, Kool, Tim, Brutus, Brent and of course our forum mutt, FifeDog.

BTW, is FifeDog a real talking dog or a figment of Brent's imagination.  I have wondered about that for a long time. Wink [;)]

Yeah Jack, can you tell us all your personal business and information please?

For instance, are you planning to attend the Greenberg show at the Wilmington Shriner's hall next month? If so, let's hook up.

Sorry I didn't respond last night, but I was accessing the Forum from a laptop and I kept getting the "incorrect email address or password" message.  Well, both were correct and now I'm wondering what I was doing wrong.  Wouldn't let me post.

Laz, if you don't know jack, that's a frightening comment about what I know.

Buckeye, I knew that Hudepohl comment would catch your interest.  I lived in Ohio for a few years and had a buddy from Cincy whose suds de jour were Hudies.  You read the part in the Bible where there was a wedding, and the custom was to serve the best wines first and the rotgut last?  Never could acquire a taste for it.

Jim, please refer to my comments about Brent charging a $100 annual subscription fee to get your name on his board.  Same goes for me.  My prescription drug info will cost you double.  I'm not running a non-profit here guys.  Must raise money for a new layout, and the cost of the switches alone has me concerned.

Other thoughts not related.....

Chief, I was thinking of your recent comments about running around in shirtsleeves and getting your outdoor stuff squared away.....while I was digging out from another 10 inches of snow.  The very thought was the only thing that sustained me during that two hours of serious manual labor.  You guys from the South don't know jack (Laz?) about removing snow from a driveway.  It isn't the untouched snow that's the killer.  It's the 2-3 foot HEAVY wall of compressed ice chunks, snow, and slush that the snowplow guy deposits at the end of the drive that does you in.  It's so bad that after you are done clearing it, you have to hold your beer with two hands, which are shaking so bad from overexertion you have to use a funnel to get the beverage in your mouth.  And just about the time that the dripping sweat stops, the snowplow guy comes back around and redeposits the 2 foot wall right back in it's original place, and you have to start over.

Les, get a fire extinguisher and place it near your train board with some marshmellows.  Seriously, I've seen what you witnessed with your armature.  It was a single damaged winding.

Jim,

Thanks for the heads up on the Greenberg show.  I did a Mapquest and could find Shriners Auditorium but not Shriners Hall.  Are they the same?  Show is Sat/Sun March 29, 30.

That's the show I was referring to, Jack. I hope to attend both days, and spend some time running trains with a nice group of guys from the Boston area. I hope to bring my repainted Boston and Maine K-Line Pacific. I missed the November show due to illness.

THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN MOVED TO ITS OWN THREAD.

I have been reading and posting on this forum for a couple of months as well as checking the forum's archives and have not seen anyone else post about their Lionel Rock Island 2031 Alco AA (FAs ?) that were manufactured between 1952 and 1954.  I have this engine set.

There have been discussions about the 2023 UPs (1950-1951), the 2033 UPs (1952-1954), and the 2032 Erie Alcos (1952-1954).  I have the yellow nose AA 2023s as well, and the mechanicals are very similar to the 2023s.

Of the whole bunch, I think that the 2023 Grey Nose seems to be the rarest because the production run with this color scheme ran only a few months.

I thought the others including the 2031s that I have were quite common and that there would be a lot of baby boomers on this forum that had a pair.  There were old forum threads from time to time whose topics were generally "your first train," but these 2031 Alcos were not mentioned by anyone.  They're on ebay, so I know they are out there.  The 2031s don't even come up in forum discussions of the Rock Island railroad and the rolling stock.

Does anyone else besides me have this 2031 engine set?  I don't think it was ever sold as part of a train set with cars, passenger or freight.

Good idea, Jim.  I just started a thread re Rock Island 2031 Alcos.  Someone else out there has to have some.  I'll be deleting the post here. Thanks.

Jack
