eZAK, please edit your post and change the subject back to what it should be. This is a place to talk about trains and such, and not zeke, im not having this. This will just make people not come to this thread, and make them mad, and we will have hundreds of posts about zeke. Now stop this, or else...... or else......... I set fire to my caboose! Grayson - You have to edit your reply's "subject" box. Because eZak changed the subject to zeke's caboose and you replyed to that subject, your posts say "zeke's caboose".

Yea, but eZAK still needs to change his subject, as well as Alex, and you back to "Grayson's Caboose".

Grayson,

Looking for a topic. Let’s talk maintenance.

Just like safety in the workplace, this is a subject that needs repeating. I’ve read bits and pieces here and there on this subject, but still have not found all the right answers. I only own Prewar Lionel and Marx, as well as Postwar Lionel, Marx and AF. They all need service.

Let’s start with a simple, and plentiful 2025 Lionel Postwar engine. I have one that needs a complete rebuild and refurbish, It's very sluggish, as well as the tender, whistle is mute. What products, cleaning solutions, tools, or anything else does one use to return such an engine and tender to like new performance? And than, how does one keep it that way?

On the subject of postwar, does anybody have any postwar cellebration series cars, engines, accessries, or sets? I myself dont have anything but a few pw accessories, some 151s, 394s and 154s.

On the subject of maintnence, I heard that the grease sold during the postwar period tended to harder over time, to the consistency of concrete. (I in fact read this on the trains.com website) Is the current grease sold by Lionel still cheap or of better quality?

Been working a good while in the train room on both the walls and my layout expansion project. Want to put a track around the ceiling using 027 track, about seven feet completed, another 45 feet to go.  Finished my siding for my Interurban Passenger set of K-Line Reading Company cars.

Sounds good, 7 feet done. Using the ol' 027 will cut your price down, using many complicated calculations, I figure you used about 65 pieces of track (unless you used extra long straights) so your price would be around $103.35 if you used retail price track. If you was to have used fastrack, it would be $231.66, man, you got to love that tubular!

Hello All!    Rod- all you need is some Q-tips,Rubbing Alchohol, A tube of oil & grease, Nut Drivers & a regular straight Screwdriver & you can keep your 2025 Running & Maintened with no problem at all. If you know the wiring is good & the e-unit functions well, then all you have to do is to Dip one end of a Q-Tip in Rubbing Alchohol & Hold the wet end against the Commutator of the Motor while turning the Drive Wheels by hand & use the dry end to clean up any leftover alchohol. This is how you can keep your 2025 maintained. If more extensive work is needed, then it will need to be taken apart to find your problem. Take Care.

Using 027 track 35 inch straights.  If I was to use Fastrac it would kill my WALLET!!!!!  The biggest reason to use tubular track on a ceiling level run is that the track just slides together instead of having to be pushed sideways, not always enuff room for that when mounted to a board. I am putting it up in sections.

The bad thing is, is that fastrack switches are so much better than O and 027. I wish lionel would make some better ones, and besides, have you seen the 042 one? It doesnt match the 022 and 072 switches at all, as well as it being a footprint style. So, how big is your layout? You have any pictures? Im building mine this fall, when my house gets done.

As recommended by Lisa, I think we should devtote the next 16 posts after recipes for southern cooking. If you dont have one, just post a normal post, and say how long you let the popcorn pop in the microwave. Wink [;)] Laugh [(-D]

So, Ill go first, with the beverage that every southern woman takes her pride in,(well, in my case, a man) sweet tea!!!!

Southern Sweet Iced Tea

Makes 8 cups

Microwave Directions

Take a large measuring cup, or anything microwave safe

that will hold 8 cups of water. Take 2-3 family size

tea bags, brand of your choice, and out them in the

water. Microwave times will vary, It takes me 5 min

on a 1200 watt microwave, atleast until its black in

color. Remove from microwave, and sweeten to taste*,

then dilute with a cup or 2 of water. Add ice or pour over

ice in a glass, lemon juice is a common add-on flavor,

but ive never really liked it.

*s Sweeten to taste is important, every person has a different preference for sweet tea. Some may like it less sweet and strong, or sweet and diluted. I like mine extra sweet and strong. Usually, if your not a sweet tooth, 3-4 cups of sugar may be adequte, but I dont use measuring cups for tea, I just pour in sugar until its sweet.

Ok, it seems like nobody has been talking to me or responding to me in a couple of days. Is everybody mad at me or something, or is it my imagination? Confused [%-)]

Grayson,

How long have you been in Savannah?  I was there 94 - 96 when I was stationed at Ft Stewart (I was a Signal Officer assigned to HQ Battery 1/41 FA).  I used to go to a hobby store downtown - I think it was "Bull Street Station".  I was into N and HO at the time.  Have you been there - do you know if it is even there anymore?  I would be curious as to their O Scale selection.

I've lived in near Savannah since I was born. (Which was only 13 years ago)

Yes, bull street station is primarily HO and N, they sell O track and a few cars as well as a few accessories. Thats the only things they sell. I go for track and senery, as well as just to look around.

I have a question... A few years back I invested in some postwar Lionel equipment - a 681 Turbine, a 494 rotary beacon, 3656 stockyard, etc - and with the exception of the 455 oil derreck, none of it works anymore. This was not a result of irresponsibility or excessively hard use. I'm not sure what the problems are, nor am I mechanically inclined enough to fix the stuff. I've been thinking about having them professionally repaired and resold. Then I would use the money to purchase modern equivalents, which don't need near as much intensive care as do the postwar ones. However, this process is a bit of a hassle, and the repair work may be too expensive for this 14 year old's budget. What course of action would you recommend?

Thanks for noticing! I did have a link to a forum I started but I was told by the mods of this forum that I can't have it. :( No advertising other forums per CTT rules. Oh well. It's okay if people pm and ask me for the link right?

Today I took my mom and dad to the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. If anyone ever gets a chance to visit OKC, you need to go to the museum! It's a beautiful place and very impressive. I'm not even into cowboys, westerns, etc but I thought this place was pretty cool! They have a nice collecion of Colt firearms and even a collection of 3500 different types of barbed wire. Anyway, I just thought it was worth mentioning to you all.
