Sounds like everyone had fun. I started this and was hoping to do something cool but ended up here:

I did get to see some fireworks though which was great,and saw a up train with must have been 100-120 cars rolling on this bridge sillouwetted with the fireworks in the background, would have been a beautiful picture..

Didn't see ANY fireworks, went on a cruise to Alaska.  Got some good pictures, ate lots!!

We didn't do much on the 4th, but on the 7th we rode behind the restored PRR E8's from Harrisburg, PA to Altoona, then up the Curve to Gallitzin and back down.  We spent Saturday afternoon train watching at the Curve, including 2 run-bys of our excursion train.  We stayed overnight in Altoona.  On Sunday we visited the Railroader's Museum, then watched trains in downtown Altoona until our train boarded for the return trip to Harrisburg.  It was a fantastic trip, and we had no speed restrictions like there were in the final days of the Norfolk Southern steam program.  As best I could tell from clocking the mile markers, we reached and held the 79mph maximum for many long stretches.  The E's did themselves proud!  I'm sure we could've hit 100 if we'd been allowed.  This is the way I remember excursion trains, and we had a blast.
