Good morning all,

Foggy this morning in SE Indiana, but supposed to be sunny later on.  Did soccer drills and weights last night.  Tried to do treadmill, but legs refused to cooperate.  Brutus, thanks for fixing the power situation on the Tardis.  I knew my "re-routing" solution was just a temporary fix.  Ride should be smoother from now on.  Brent, glad to hear the stitches are out, but sorry to hear about the extra time at work.  Working overtime never really benefits anyone in the long run, not even the company.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL after "Numb3rs".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all very interesting line of events in the train world has happened to me. I found a older B&O FA-2 A unit by weaver on choochoo for $99 so I bought it it has a few minor problems like e unit really doesn't work except when it wants and its rare and back to screw mounts in the shell are broke so need to fix that some how thinking of changing this to tmcc so that will take care of the e-unit.

Then about a week ago on ebay mwinternetsales had the B-unit listed B&O Bunit Dummy buy it now $55.00 well got it last night they look great together will gets some pics and post on SPF this sunday. any way get it out of the box and realize its a power B-Unit but it seems to bind up run a little bind up run a little bind up and it also is the old type with a drive shaft assembly. So guess need to get that fix probably will send it to weaver and let them fix it. As all looks find to me so I'm missing something some where. ( had shell off)

Not to much going on here thought I didn't have OT till tomorrow but I look and see my name on the sheet for tonight's assignments so thats good to me seeing I lost a couple due to being sick.

Aloha from my steamy office in a grey Chicago. That's a problem with the radiated heat in these old buildings: it can be 79 in one spot and freezing in the other. Oh well, just pretending I'm in the islands. TGIF! Great chat with Sir J and Brutus last eve before our Tardis ride. By the way, Don, I left the new CTT for you in the bathroom. Jim, I used that stuff you recommended on the frozen nut-and-bolt on the mower blade yesterday and it worked right away - thanks! Got out the snow blower too - LOL. Brent, glad you're OK - I just had to move a few folks from exempt status to non-exempt because they work so much they should be getting OT. What a mess. Last day in the office for a while as we drive to Connecticut next week. Hope to see the Lionel store in NYC too.

Fife ... good time to crawl in her and do all that fine perking for next year ... I used to weatherproof and seal all the electrical connections and detail/trim my boat out this time of year when she was dry-docked . Bargains for her are more available on the ebay auctions too in the winter .... lighting- horns - depth finders sound sysytems ... etc. All those make her fabulous little addons .

Morning.  SUNNY!!!!! and warm.  Off to the lake to take pictures and plant some shrubs and etc before it starts back raining [Sunday and Monday].  Might get on top of Ranger barn and do some caulking and put on a ridge cap [metal was just bent over].  Have a tiny leak at the roof crest.  Bought some ridge cap from Lowes and it is already up there.  Wanted someone with me in case I slide off the roof [which I doubt].  Also good to have someone steady ladder when getting back off the roof.  Wifey is on the way home and will be here any minute.

OT and Brent, circular [skill as we call them] saws are about the most dangerous of tools.  Glad both are OK.  It ties with chainsaws.

Ohio State????  do they play football? Whistling

Got to be back home before 3:30 as 4:00 meeting [kickoff of 2010 census] in neighboring town.  I have to say a few words.

Have a good one.

Chief .... just in case ... please do have someone there if you're going to be on a roof ... you made me remember all those chainsaw notches in my boots when i used to cut and burn wood .... I miss those days ... I felled the trees ... drug them ... sawed/cut/trimmed and split em ... was a heck of alot of work but loved it . Of course there's nothing like a 40-50 foot tree kicking back on you ... talk about a thrill ... Good morning

50s and overcast

RT check the chain sprockets closely on those old Weavers, they were  prone to splitting. P&D had some better ones made and we would install them before the engine left the store. They are that bad. I went back to Kroger this morning, figured for five bucks another turkey in the freezer is a good deal. Eggs, small portion of potatoes and bacon for breakfast. One toast.

Have a great weekend...S.J.

Good Morning,

Still somewhat warm down here in south Florida, around 80 again today, but a little cooler overnight.

Installed a True Blast 2 horn into my Lionel engine that had only a plain horn it, sound much better to me. Also upgraded a Williams unpowered F-7 diesel to a powered unit, now a heavy puller, maybe I should have put the True Blast 2 horn in it but don't thing there was enough room for it.

Going to work later today, around 1:30pm. Had a few days off, went to Camilla GA with my wife, weather was a little cooler up there. The heavy rains missed that part of Georgia and went closer to Atlanta GA.

I made a trip ro Walmart on m way home today to get some stuff. I am experimenting with a substitute for the Flyer mohair, and I'll post the results asap. The material I found is cheap, readily available, and more importantly synthetic. That should eliminate the moth problem that plagues mohair. I also got some white paint to redo the window outlines on the 650s, and possibly the running board stripes on the 332AC.

Morning all, off to Pasadena Convention Center to help set up the DCS demonstration layout for Cal Stewart.

Laz, I shot a squirrel when I was a kid with a 12 gauge shotgun.  No contest!  Not much left of it either at close range.

Chief, Have someone watch you on the roof.  I don't want to read about you in the papers.

Doug-- We had our jackets and jeans on, great two hour tour, the Navy ships just amazed me. I got your PM. I think I could get used to SD. See you Saturday.

Dennis-- Median price of homes on Coronado $1.5 million ...................

I'll take two - no make that three. Whistling

Dennis - I forgot about the wild hogs. They are around but I haven't shot at any. I hear they can be mean even before they are shot. Some Grits sprinkled on the opossum and squirrel might help.Confused

Speaking of a Helix, did anyone see "I Love Toy Trains" on RFD-TV yesterday? They showed a double Helix made into a figure 8, where trains passed from one Helix to the other. They did say the builder was a design engineer.

Ray - For a hangover, I think I would rather have "some hair of the dog that bit me".

I wander if squirrels are like people, they are what they eat. City squirrels probably taste like garbage.

Speaking of oysters, I hear some areas are about to pass a law requiring oysters be pasteurized or nuked before selling.

laz - shooting squirrels with a pistol sure beats using a shot gun. About all that's left then is a grease spot.

Hello All....Havn't posted in a few weeks. Things here are the same, still trying to find a job. Weather today is beautiful after almost a week of rain.

I remember eating squirrel, rabbit and pheasent as a kid and don't remember hating any of it. Dad would go for small game maybe once a year but I remember him complaining about how it was all hunted out and too many people in one area so buy the time I was old enough to go he had stopped and concentrated on fishing. I also think he was spoiled by our years in alaska, Jersey hunting in the sixtys couldn't compare to alaska in the fiftys. I finally did get my license when I was in my early twentys and went with my older brother one time, nobody got anything except cold and wet and never went again.   Steve

Evening all from beautiful Southern Ohio,

Watched a beautiful 10 pt. Buck this morning on the way into work.  I keep the field glasses in the car this time of the year.  Watched him for several minutes.  I have got to find time to start hunting again.

Jim – Thanks for the tip on the 600 to redo.  I’m watching it now.  The one last night just went higher than I can go right now.  It was worth every bit of what it went for.  I know what you mean about the tabs.  The Baker Book said to look carefully to see which direction to bend them back and I’ll bend them just enough to get through the slot.  On re-assembly I twist in the original direction and only as much as needed.  If I can get by without re-twisting them, I leave them alone.

Brent – I can really identify with what you are saying.  It is frustrating when an engineer says a piece of equipment will or will not operate based on numbers and specs, and they refuse to listen to 30+ years experience with the equipment, then we need to come up with a plan to recover an over aggressive schedule the engineers developed.

TGIF

May God bless

Jim

Good afternoon all, back from Pasadena Convention Center.  We are all set up for the show tomorrow and Sunday.  Looking forward to running the trains and also to do some shopping at the meet.  New convention center is larger than the old exibition hall.  This one is about 50,000 square feet.  Layouts, table sales, auction and everything is in one hall now.  They used to put the layouts in an annex separate from the table sales.

Pat, don't know about nuked oysters but I have always just cooked them good and never had a problem.  I would not recommend eating raw oysters now however.  Too risky.

later,

Ray

Jim,

I have seen references to a book by Baker, but I don't know where I can get the book. Is it better than the K Line service manual?

I have been doing Flyer repairs all afternoon as well as tonight. I used an Elmer's white paint pen to redo the window outlines on the 650 passenger cars as well as the stripes on the 332. I was able to avoid getting the stripes on the 332 too perfect so that it sill looks original. The renewed window outlines really make the 650s pop now.Thumbs Up

I decided to fix that 16B that has been giving me trouble for some time now. I replaced the roler and had it tested and put back together when I decided to try to squeeze the handle clip tighter. That was a really bad idea.Sigh I've got to find another clip now.

Jim

I've wondered about using the white pens.  I have used black sharpies with success, I ned to get me some!

The Baker book is a really good resource and shows a lot of neat repair techniques, where the service manual is more of exploded diagrams, wiring etc.  If I could have only one, I'd pick the service manual.  The Baker book is a more of a how-to based.

Jim,

Is the Baker book still in print? I'd like to get it due to how lacking the service manual seems at times.

HI GYZ,

Nice nite with wife and dog at fire.  Made up some chicken and wife made some fries.  Watched fire for 2 hrs., came in ran trains for 2hrs., NO PILE UPs, life is good.

PAT, yep gave up the shotgun long time ago for .22.  We started to shoot the squirrels to see who could get head shots, closest to the eye.  Then when that was too esay went to the pistols.  This is tough.  Anything farther then 10 yrds is a challenge.  Of course you do get distance points.

All B safe,

SF,

Good Evening everyone!
MIL and her husband are here.  Had a long day at work, then shot to grocery store to pick up some items to make two bourbon chocolate pecan pies and a white chocolate/caramel cheese cake.  Then came home, found Fed Ex delivered my Oil-less turkey fryer, brought that in and then headed out with whole gang to Pizza Hut for Pepperoni Pizza.  Now home and baking pies to bring to SIL's house for a early Thanksgiving Dinner.  This will be MIL's first trip up to SIL's house in over 10 years.  Should be interestingWhistling

Brent, make sure you keep that scar covered when you wear shorts in the summer time.  If not, at least wear a lot of sun screen over it!  Sun can play havoc on scar tissue and make it more noticeable.

I am about wiped out.  Has been a long week and still dealing with emotions...not much sleep.  Perhaps with a good night tonight, and some fun with the family tomorrow, I will get some rest and enjoy the weekend.

Laz, I still use a 22 rifle, but nail them with spine shots out to about 120 yards.  I shot one at that distance and you would have enjoyed seeing him tumble as he was at a full run!  One of the guys I work with makes a stew out of them, so I give him the carcasses to take care of.

Hope everyone has a great time this weekend.
God Bless,
Dennis

DENNIS,

If you get 3-4 of those little guys, they make up a great meal.  I boil them for about 20 minutes, then pick off all the good meat, place that in crock pot with 2 cans o beer.  After I get all meat off squirrels, add carrots, celery, beans, onions, galic, let simmer for an hour or two then add potaoes and about 3 cans of tomatoe soup, let that simmer in crock pot for another 2-4 hrs., or until potatoes are soft.   Put the bib on its time to eat, with some good rolls YUM YUM.

Good Evening

Just home from church. We had a full course turkey dinner and then a concert from a local christian music school. I must admit the music was very good. And of course the dinner.

I am full but have banilla for the Tardis crew....S.J.

Howdy all - prayers for all, including BK now!

Got the new CTT, but haven't had a chance to check it out.  Cover sure looks neat :)

Wife had a transfusion today and it went pretty well.  I took off early to pick up the kids from their schools.  Stopped at our new Super Walmart and got the new Star Trek dvd and also Left 4 Dead 2.  Got to play that for about and hour until a buddy called to talk about some work stuff.  Nice chats with RT and Wes tonight.  Working 6 tomorrow OT, so can't stay up very late.  I think SJ is at a big Turkey dinner at his church tonight?  Never mind, I know where he hides the key and we can get that banilla :)  Let's hit that Tardis!

Sunny and 50's today.  Not bad for late November.

My wife heard back from the doctor today about the results from the MRI.  Slipped disc between the 4th and 5th lumbar and a buldged disc between the 1st and 2nd lumbar.  Appointment with the specialist on Nov. 30 to talk about pain manangement and other options.  She is feeling better and moving around more today and is planning on going back to work next week.

Brutus - I noticed an add in the new CTT about a train show in St. Louis area this spring.  It is penciled into my schedule.  You making any plans yet, or is it too soon to tell?

Careful up on the roof, Chief.

Safe travel for those who are going to be traveling this week and prayers for those who need them.
